Um yeah... so... I give up. Life's too short and there are too many books I want to read to waste time on something I'm not enjoying.

What was the problem with it? it's on my "To-read" list. Should it be?

Woo hoo for being quitters!
Ed, it's just not interesting.
I'll leave these threads up, though, in case anyone else wants to disagree with us!

Yep, I did too at 30 pages.... and then 90 pages later it's still more of the same and I chucked it. :)
Bummer! I'm giving it the ol' college try. The good news is that my Spanish skills are filling in for me where Bolano assumes understanding.
I'm up to page 98 - sometimes have to skim over gratuitous "faggot" and "fuck" filled paragraphs, and I'm not a fan of the detailed blow-job scenes (of which there are a lot) but I do like the meandering mind-bend of it all. Bolano is like a twenty-three year old Marukami on Spring Break, high on Acapulco Gold and feeling verbose.
I quit this book too! I got about half way into it and I just couldn't do it anymore. The first book was ok, but then I jsut lost interest all together.
This book was a challenge for me to finish. I simply could not find the story compelling enough to read all 577 pages of it, even though I did anyway. I did enjoy the books style and the way the author described the "visceral realists" visits to many of the wonderful bookstores located throughout Mexico City. I appreciated the way the author used geographic locations to help tell the story in D.F. It was the best reason for my ultimately enjoying the book.If you are interested in Mexico City and are also curious about Mexican poetry you may enjoy this book.
