most boring book ever.

Mickey Dee I felt this was a chore to read. It was very dull. If Ana & Christian weren't having sex, she was doubting the whole relationship the whole time. She hardly speaks up about it at all.
& Christian? He hardly has any depth as a character. He's rich & good looking. Has a dark, sad side that he gives only about 3-4 details about.

I kept turning the pages hoping it would get better, the only good part, besides the scene where Ana first meets Christian & their first few dates, was the ending when Ana leaves.

I hope the next book is better.

Lynette Carson I guess everyone is entitled to their own opinion I loved this book as a matter of fact the entire trilogy

It just drags on so much! I don't understand.

Nikki Groom For me, the 2nd one was by far the best one. All 3 are like marmite though, you either love or hate :)

Kristin Luy The only thing I love in this book was when Ana left Christian in the end. For me, the second book was the best book out of the three. You can see how Christian changes for Ana. And the best part? Christian's ...... Oh, I just love thaaaaaaat! <3

Mochaspresso I thought the second book was better than the first. But it seems that most people either love the series or vehemently hate it and those impressions are usually firmly set with their reaction to the first book. So, I'm guessing that it probably won't get any better for you or if it does, only marginally.

Sparrowlicious Well, I could read the first one through because I was looking for a plot twist.
Which didn't quite come.
I gave up on the second book because it just drags on without any signs of actual character development. Eugh.

yeah people keep saying the 2nd one is the best. I can only hope!

LOL it's sad how we both agree the ending was the best part! Haha!

So I was right! The characters hardly develop. Sigh what a shame.

Rayne I have mixed feelings about these books. I dont see why there was so much media coverage on them I have read WAY more grafic books than this! Like Anne Rice Beauty series just off the top of my head. This was like a graffic romance novel but didnt feel like I was reading an erotic novel because some of the others I have read. I liked the story by the end of the last book but it took me a while to get into it.

Joyce After seeing and hearing all of the buzz about 50 Shades of Grey, I had to read it to see what all the fuss was about. I read the whole book, but kept wondering when something was going to happen. I kept wondering how this book got so much attention. It seemed to me like there wasn't really any plot, and I hated Ana's submissiveness. It was only at the end of the book when I had some hope that something more than just sex was going to happen. I liked book 2 - 50 Shades Darker. I haven't read book 3 yet, but I do plan to finish out the trilogy.

M. The success of this trilogy will forever remain a mystery to me. The writing was terrible, there was absolutely no plot, and the characters couldn't be flatter if they tried. I read the first book and agree that the best part was Anna leaving Christian. The second book was so bad that I couldn't finish it. I don't know, maybe it's the novelty of it all that makes it so appealing to so many people. I suspect that years from now a lot of the super fans of this trilogy will look back and wonder why they liked it so much. Same thing for those who experienced the eighties and wonder why in the world they thought big hair and shoulder pads were cool.

Big hair and shoulder pads weren't cool?

I need to re-evaluate my life.

LOL

Lisa Brandi You read it for the hype. You read it for the suggestive content and bask in the fleeting endorphin rush. You don't read it for the writing or character development or the way it portrays women in the 21st century. It's good at what it's good at--period. (I had to stop reading mid-way through book three--just couldn't do it any longer).

I agree. I think there are anime that are more graphic than this .

Everything in this post is on point! LOL

Maan Penaflor I loved the trilogy though the ending is not that satisfying. And yes, I agree with most of the people that the second one is the best. I think it's better if a fourth book would be published with Christian's POV in it. *wishful thinking

Hal Smith I bought the first one just to see what the hype was about, and I still don't get what all the hype was about. I get the notion this is a sugary confection, junk food for the mind etc. But for all its flaws, candy - whether for the mouth or mind - is supposed to at least taste good. This thing is lima beans with six hundred grams of fat, it misses any useful or satisfying purpose.

The writing in the first book is so bad it is distracting. I grew up in the northwest, and you can tell the writer was using Google Earth for the whisked-away-in-a-helicopter scene, but really has no idea about the place. And if the sex is supposed to be hot and bothered, well, that's frankly kind of a sad commentary on readers' sex lives. It gets far steamier in the Dear Penthouse section of the respectively named magazine - with far better writing to boot.

By about page one-hundred-eighty I called it done and put a fork in it. Now it's cover taunts me from my digital bookshelf - about the ten dollars I wasted. Yay.

Ashley I felt the same way too. I almost couldn't finish it, but I didn't want to do that to a book. And I hoped it'd get better by the second book, but nope. I couldn't finish the second one.

Andrea I read it based on glowing recommendations from family and friends and I looked past the word repetition and poor writing to focus on the plot. I think I know why these books received so much hype. I read pretty much every night, usually able to eat up a full sized novel in the space of one reading and I can honestly say I hadn't read anything like this before. I'm not a fan of erotica but I did like the beginning of the book - it definitely had me hooked. The BDSM element was the plot. Seriously, I read this entire book with the hopes that this girl would finally grow a set and stand up for herself - I was really happy with the ending. I just wish that was it. Unfortunately I got hooked into buying book two which I never finished because she gets back with the dude five long, torturous days later. This book sparked a crazy rush of copycats and now it seems like every other book on Amazon has some crazy hot rich guy and a dimwitted milk sop to stomp on. I will admit I still think about this book - but more in the way that it should have been written. It had so much potential.

Minakshi Sharma Was hardly able to finish the first one..it took me the longest time uptil now to complete a book..what a shame..!Read it based on the recommendations and now feeling like I have been robbed of my time and mental satisfaction that one gets after reading a book.I wish there was more to Kate's character, and that she was the female protagonist. Infact had it been Kate and Grey, there would have been fireworks going on in their relationship. And Grey would have had a hell of a time trying to tame her. All said and done I don't think I am going to read the 2nd or the third or any other book that is ever going to be published in this series.:(

Melissa For me it never got better, I read book one in 2 days because I was excited for where it was going, so when I started on book 2 I was sure I would find out and it was long drawn out and boring, I was determined that I would finish this series because surely with all the hype it had to be going somewhere good and but book 3 took me over two weeks to finish because about half way through I realized it was still going nowhere. I did finish it and my first thoughts were really good thing these were borrowed books...

Totally agree. I couldn't even finish it. All her doubts got annoying after awhile. Plus, it was all just too much for me. A contract? ew.
