Ruth Finished this one a couple of weeks ago and still thinking on the ending. Anyone have strong feelings one way or the other?

Mysticpt the ending was a twist i did not see coming. i knew something wasn't quite right about her interviews with the police, but i couldn't put my finger on it. it was a clever ending and i enjoyed the book alot. her coping method was not something i had considered and it helped keep her alive with no time to lose. haven't heard as great things about this authors next book so not sure if i will give that one a try

Dawn I'm still torn as to what I think about the book. I am still getting used to the English style of writing. I was confused by some of it and I guess that would be her coping skills in dealing with her sister's death and I have to say I was disappointed that Mr. Wright was not real because I kind of hoped for a romance. I did wish that I understood more about why the book was based off her real life sister. What about her sister caused the inspiration for her to write the book?!!

Nikki Groom I thought it was an amazing ending.I love it when an author can turn everything on its head, everything you were thinking gets shaken up!! Fantastic book I thought, although I wasn't as keen on her next one 'Afterwards'.

Sarah I liked the ending, though had also hoped for a bit of romance. It seemed only fair after everything she'd been through. Maybe felt a bit suckered that the ending was such a dramatic change though I could understand why she had fabricated is whole fantasy after finding her sister. That need to keep her alive, denial. Maybe based on her real life sister as in, thinking how powerful their connection is. What she would go through if anything ever happened to her?

Missy Martin-Lippiatt I loved the ending of this book; it was one I never saw coming! It was refreshing to read a book that was not predictable and capable of taking such a twist. Beatrice's coping mechanism with her sister's death was very intense and believable, for me. Until reading other critiques on the ending I did not realize is was based on the author's real life sister. I would be interested in learning more on that connection.

Ruth My sister and I both read this book within days on each other. The ending had her stumped as well! We spent a lively hour discussing what was real and what wasn't...and the tells in each case. As several others have posted, I too, thought I saw a bit of romance blooming...and pehaps that was another aspect of Beatrice's coping method. I suspected the doctor about midway, but then shifted over to the police chief. This book was so well done that I went out and immediately bought her next book, Afterward. Another winner written from a unique psychological perspective!

Amanda I am pretty sure she survives. Before she left the flat with William she text Kasia the Polish words 'odcisk palca' which means 'fingerprint' and if you recall she was always telling Beatrice that she should leave flowers at the toilets in the park as a fingerprint for Tess as she didn't know the correct English translation. This means that when Bee was missing for hours and Kasia was freaking out wondering why she wasn't home, she could just think to look here first.

As regards the whole letter she was writing, this was simply being written in her head as a way to keep herself conscious and remember every detail of the story. The lawyer was not real and none of that story had happened but everything else was true. Also when she was saying in her letter that she was sick and weak and blacking out, that was simply her blacking out from the sedatives and sleeping pills in her system.

Hope this helps. What a book, right?

Claire The first chapter had me wary but after the second I was hooked. I did not suspect the villain and I was totally unprepared for the ending. A great read!

bubblegumpopper I really enjoyed this book. I actually figured that the doctor would be the villain pretty early in the book, so I was expecting to be disappointed by the end, but the end was such a twist that it left me pleased with the book.

I also like that she didn't unequivocally tell readers how the protagonist ends up, but rather leaves enough of a blank slate to allow them to choose her fate. Personally, I choose to believe that Kasia finds her in time and that she survives.

I really enjoyed this book and have since recommended it to several other people. One is reading it right now and he is really enjoying it.
