And me! I'm so glad to see your enthusiasm, Amaryllis! I imagine this is a great book for you! And if you've done any studying of the time period, you likely understand all of the industrial talk a lot better than the rest of us!

Yes, I know, it was the same for me. There's something about classic books, with their gorgeous prose and complex writing style, that makes me use a dictionary all the time, which is tiring, and yet I love reading them so much more! :D

Not soon, but eventually. I think you'll become more frustrated with her :(

oh ! thats strange , they should atleast have mentioned it:/
Bessie Bessie complaining Bessie ! that girl seriously wants to die!

I'm in nursing school, and every book mentions in the history of medical science - that up until the mid nineteenth century, it all was just magic to many people; even doctors, lol!! There were just no explanations.

LOLOL!!! Yes, there do seem to be some whiny women...Thornton's sister is whiny, too, and Mrs. Hale....yeesh!
Duchess Nicole wrote: "I imagine at the time that this was written, there was such little knowledge of disease by the general public. The author was writing of death as if it were just a mystery.

it was all considered magic? that is an interesting fact to know....

Yep, for Bessie it was said what disease it was, but for the mother, nope :S Maybe they didn't know enough about it, or she just didn't want to get into the medical stuff, you know, just call it a terrible disease that causes a lot of pain or something. Easier :)

Yep, it they used to think that germs and disease just appeared with no rhyme or reason. Not to go into boring detail, but the early theory by Aristotle was his "theory of spontaneous generation", which in simple terms, meant that germs came from nowhere. It was disproved hundreds of years later by Lois Pasteur.
Off my nerdy medical knowledge soap box now, lol!!

Maybe... but not by a lot, I'm sure!
The industrial revolution is a subject that I am familiar with, but this is actually the first time I am reading a book which deals with it, and I realize how much you can learn, only from reading a novel. Somehow the debate between Margaret and John (taking place in the chapter Masters and Men) helps us understand the subject in a way that school manuals cannot.

LOLOL!!! Yes, there do seem to be some whiny women...Thornton's sister is whiny, too, and Mrs. Hale....yeesh!"
Mrs Hale is surprisingly annoying! She is not like that in the TV series!

I so completely agree! There's a truth to fiction that you can't get from real life.

*bows in front of your impressive medical knowledge*

Nicole, the scene when he takes off the cravat *swoon* one of my favorites!!! you'll see OMG!
I love th thornton pictures !

And I have to go up to the girls school, so I have to STOP reading right now....uuuuuurrrrgggg!!!! Not a good place to stop.

I had to read that scene 3 times! I don't think I fully understood it all because it was like go in one ear, out the other. I think I got the gist of it so moved on :)

**sniffle, sniffle...** I need another box :(
Okay, gotta go guys. Hugs for you both. I'll be back in a couple of hours. TV as the babysitter tonight for the kiddos, lol!!! I'm ready for a conclusion!!!!!!

Oh my god Blacky. That last picture when he's staring at Margaret and starts to smile at the dinner party. SWOON!! LOVE IT!!!!
