"With the right people? How does that make a difference?" Adrianna asked, tilting her head to the side as she swished her tail around in the water. It was the strangest feeling but she found that she enjoyed it more than she thought she would.

"I don't know. My dad died before I was born but if he was then my mom knew about it because she kept me away or else it's my mom. But yeah, I don't know," Adrianna answered with a shrug. "And I've never talked to my mom about it, clearly."

He said softly looking at her
"Please don't tell me your suggesting I push my mom into a pool or something," Adrianna said warily, laughing nervously.

How does she wash the dishes?" He asked," if she just lets the dishes soak you can put your hand in the water like this."
He said and stuck his hand into the water," An you should feel something like a pulse." He said
Adrianna's mouth dropped into an 'o' as she listened to Galen. "That almost kind of makes senses. I mean, as much sense as figuring out whether your mom is a mermaid or not can," she said with a small laugh. "Why do I feel like I have to swim? I feel all antsy."

Adrianna nodded, trying to take in as much information as she could. She tilted her head to the side as she thought about what he had just said. "How do you know what it feels like?" she asked him curiously, swishing her tail in the water slightly once again. She didn't understand just what he was implying but she understood enough to be curious about it.

Adrianna furrowed her eyebrows and took a moment to process what he was saying to her. "Wait, you're not saying..." she trailed off, looking at him suspiciously. "You're not a...are you?" she asked him.

"I'm torn between being in awe because you're a merman or being angry that you didn't tell me that you were one and just told me that you studied myths and all that stuff," Adrianna replied, studying Galen carefully as if he could do something spectacular at any given moment.

Adrianna nodded reluctantly, seeing exactly where he was coming from. "Okay fair enough. Now are you going to teach me how to swim or whatever mermaid magic you were going to teach me today?" Adrianna asked Galen, looking up at him expectantly.

"What's that like? Living in the ocean I mean," Adrianna asked Galen, not able to help herself. Her voice had taken on a dreamy tone as she asked. She wasn't too keen on fishes or mermaids or swimming but she'd seen the Little Mermaid and like a lot of people, she'd fantasized about what it would be like to live under the sea.

Adrianna nodded quickly, getting excited about actually being able to go with him. She let go of the edge of the pool and sunk down underneath, her eyes adjusting to the water, making it crystal clear. It was like watching the world in HD. She took a small breath in, worried about what might happen even though she'd done it already. When she felt better than fine, she took another breath and then another. After she'd been in for a minute or two, she decided it was time to try this tail and tried to kick once, propelling herself out of the water where she grabbed onto the ledge for support. "I did it," she stated, feeling pretty happy with herself.

"Yeah but saying it out loud makes me feel cooler. More accomplished," Adrianna told him, waving a wet hand around as she spoke. "I've a question, does everyone have a different colour tail?" she asked, looking down at her own and then back up at him.

He answered chuckling softly. He sat back down and nodded," yeah everyone has a different colored tail.. It's like your hair and eyes." He said softly," unique and just you."
Adrianna laughed airily and listened intently as he answered her question abut tails. "So what about yours? What's it like?" she asked, her mind gone off her shimmering, aquamarine tail as she wondered about his. She didn't realise that she had been accidentally swishing her tail under the water till it brushed against the wall of the pool.

"How do you control your tail? I can't work it," Adrianna asked, a small frustrated frown on her lips, making a tiny crease in between her eyebrows. She tilted her head to the side as she waited for his answer.

Adrianna took his hand, using his strength and her other hand to push herself out. She did the same as the day before, imagining that she had legs and felt the almost familiar prick of pain as she got her legs again. "You know, I've never actually been to the ocean," she told him as she pulled her t-shirt over her head and shimmied into her shorts.

He told her
Adrianna nodded as she slipped her flip flops back on. "I could probably maybe to that," she told him as a grin curled her lips. "I'm super excited right now. I always asked to go to the ocean but I was never allowed for now obvious reasons," Adrianna said, bouncing from foot to foot.

He told her softly. "Come in," he said going into the house and waiting for her
Adrianna blushed slightly when he told her to calm down. "Sorry," she apologised with a light chuckle and followed him inside the house.

You are just funny to be around." He said not in a bad way. He smiled at her as he put his shoes on. "Alright off to the ocean."
Adrianna furrowed her eyebrows slightly, wondering how she was funny to be around. She didn't think there was anything funny about her. "It's not far right?" Adrianna asked, bouncing on the balls of her feet.

"Can you speak underwater? Like speak normally?" Adrianna asked, cocking her head to the side as she thought about it. Now that she was going out with Galen she had gotten curious about it.

Adrianna smiled at him, hopping into his truck. "That's just weird. I mean, science wasn't my favourite subject in school but this is something that I want to learn about. It's just weird," Adrianna told him, clicking her seat belt into place.

"I mean, it's pretty magic but there has to be some science behind how mermaids work. I'm just saying, I would have been a lot more interested in it in school if they taught about this kind of stuff instead. But I was given Disney movies and told they were a myth," Adrianna explained with a shrug.

"Neither am I. That's the point. But that'll all never happen because it means coming out to the public which means discrimination and all of that which you are avoiding by staying secret and living in peace? Is peace right for merpeople?" Adrianna asked, glancing at Galen from where she had been looking out the window.

Adrianna laughed, looking away sheepishly. "Maybe...But I mean, wouldn't you? Were you born a merman like in the water? How does that even work? No wait, I don't think I wanna know that one," Adrianna asked, stopping herself with a small frown. "That makes sense. Sounds like pretty regular conflict. They kinda predicted that in the Little Mermaid. Which is strange because who knew that they'd actually get something like that right?" Adrianna asked with a small laugh.

"Yeah but I mean do you do it...Nope. I'm not getting into that," Adrianna stopped, shaking her head to clear that thoughts. That was not something that she wanted in her head, even though she knew that she was going to have to talk about it with someone at some point. "You've never seen The Little Mermaid?" She asked in disbelief. "Not even to laugh at everything they got wrong? Like if I was a werewolf, I'd watch werewolf movies just to laugh at it. It'd be the same with mermaid movies but I know nothing about mermaid just yet so I can't do that," Adrianna told him with wide eyes, still not sure how he hadn't seen the Disney classic.

"That sucks," Adrianna replied bluntly, shaking her head at the weirdness of it all. She had figured he had lived most of his life under the sea but it was still strange to think about how much pop culture he would have missed. "You realise that you're gonna have to come to my house for a movie marathon right? This needs to be fixed. What kind of person would I be if I just left you like that," Adrianna told him, not leaving any room for debate. She had her mind set on it.

Adrianna laughed at his surprise. "Of course I'm going to have you over for a movie marathon. You have missed out on like everything. In fact, we're going to have to have multiple ones. Catching you up on Disney, cult classics, classics, the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Star Wards, The Lord of the Rings and the Hobbit prequels. There's more than that that you've gotta see but we'll start with those," Adrianna informed him with a nod, making the decisions as they popped into her head. "I see now why my mom says I need to get my priorities straight. I watch way too much."
