SOLVED. Mother searching to find out what happened to her son in Africa [s]

A young man is found dead in his flat in Spain (?) from an apparent suicide. His mother doesn't believe he committed suicide and comes from where she is working as an archaeologist (I think). She meets his girlfriend and finds out that he has spent a lot of time in Africa. The mother decides to travel to Africa and follow some leads which take her to a type of hospice out in the countryside. She has the help of couple of local people. She finds out that the people in the hospice are being infected by a virus on purpose to be used as guinea pigs. That's about all I remember.
