Time to put our thinking caps on for our august group read.

If anyone wants to propose a theme that would be great otherwise just suggest whatever you'd like to read next.

I'll get things started off and suggest Nightwhere Nightwhere by John Everson

I'll throw Ronald Malfi's Little Girls Little Girls by Ronald Malfi into the mix.

Andy (manicsloth) | 787 comments I've been wanting to read something else by Mali after the last one (with the snow creatures)

I got it via Netgalley!

Cobwebs-in-Space-Ice (readingreindeerproximacentauri) | 77 comments Little Girls is definitely worth reading. I had it from NetGalley. My hair is still curling and skin turning to goose bumps just remembering it.

Addy | 1944 comments I'll suggest The Doorkeepers by Graham Masterton

Kimberly (kimberly_3238) | 600 comments Yay! I found the thread before it closed!

I just finished Little Girls (loved it!), so I'll suggest one that I'm dying for an excuse to re-read (too many NG reviews!)
PICTURE OF EVIL, Graham Masterton

message 10: by Addy (new)

Addy | 1944 comments Picture of evil is not on kindle:(

message 11: by Addy (new)

Addy | 1944 comments That's suppose to be a sad face:(

Kimberly (kimberly_3238) | 600 comments Addy wrote: "That's suppose to be a sad face:("

Sorry! (I probably should have checked first....) Sigh! I have the old paperback copy and "assume" everything should be available on kindle! ;)

message 13: by Kimberly (new)

Kimberly (kimberly_3238) | 600 comments Okay, how about DEEPER, by James A. Moore. (I did check for kindle this time!!!) :D. Setting is the Lovecraftian town of Innsmouth--very much a "lovecraftian type" story, with modern characters/time.

message 14: by Kimberly (new)

Kimberly (kimberly_3238) | 600 comments Or SAVAGE SPECIES (all 5 "episodes), from Jonathan Janz?

Deleted my first one and putting in Bugboy by Ryan c Thomas instead. It was free when i got it, not sure if it still is.

message 17: by Addy (new)

Addy | 1944 comments I'm gonna check if Bugboy is still free. I love Ryan! I need to read more of his stuff.

message 18: by Addy (new)

Addy | 1944 comments It's not free anymore but I can get it with kindle unlimited! Looks like a good one Justin!

I have the s/l of that one--still unread!

I'll leave this thread up for another 12-24 hours then do the poll. If anyone has any last minute suggestions, get them in. :)

message 22: by Kate (new)

Kate | 1106 comments Mod
The poll is now up. :)

message 23: by Kate (new)

Kate | 1106 comments Mod
At the moment we have a tie with two books:

Bugboy Bugboy by Ryan C. Thomas and Little Girls Little Girls by Ronald Malfi

I'll leave the poll up for another 24 hours, so if anyone wants to do some last minute voting you have a bit more time.

message 24: by Kimberly (new)

Kimberly (kimberly_3238) | 600 comments LOVED Little Girls, but just read it--so if that one wins, I can still participate in discussions. :)

message 25: by Kimberly (new)

Kimberly (kimberly_3238) | 600 comments Maybe a "buddy read" of the runner up???

message 26: by Maxine Marsh (new)

Maxine Marsh | 703 comments Mod
Oh the humanity! We could do both, lol.

message 27: by Andy (new)

Andy (manicsloth) | 787 comments I realize that the premise is totally different, but Bugboy has me scared because of our last experience with Ryan C Thomas and bugs.

Remember
Salticidae by Ryan C. Thomas ?

message 28: by Andy (new)

Andy (manicsloth) | 787 comments Did anyone finish it btw?

Nightwhere is great.

Andy wrote: "Did anyone finish it btw?"

I finished it, begrudgingly. I don't like books to defeat me, but that one came very close.

Ugh! I'm with you--it doesn't happen often, but the books that make me want to give in early are the worst!

Vicki Willis Andy wrote: "I realize that the premise is totally different, but Bugboy has me scared because of our last experience with Ryan C Thomas and bugs.

That was the 1st Ryan C. Thomas book I read. (My 13 year old son read it too and liked it. Ha) But then I was surprised when I read The Summer I Died. Wow, so different.

message 33: by Addy (new)

Addy | 1944 comments You gotta read the sequel! OMG! I loved both of them!

Bugboy and Little Girls are still neck and neck with 6 votes each.
There are two options:

1. I put the books up in another poll and ask people to revote.
2. We have 2 group reads for August.

Which one would you guys like to do?

I'd be fine with two. I'd love to participate in the Malfi read (which I just recently finished), and then I can read BUGBOY, which I haven't read yet. :D

message 37: by Addy (new)

Addy | 1944 comments Revote. I have too many reads. If we did both i would only be able to participate in one.

message 38: by Maxine Marsh (new)

Maxine Marsh | 703 comments Mod
I'd read them both, it is managable for me because they will be paced.

message 39: by Justin (new)

Justin (justineaton) | 3492 comments Mod
If we do both there will probably only be a couple people who read both and most will choose one or the other. You would think that since they each got 6 votes that we would have enough for two but usually only half the people who vote actually read them. I'm alright with two reads but if it is not many people in one or the other thread i think we would be better off not waiting a full week to move on and instead just doing it like a buddy read and moving on when everyone is ready.

message 40: by Justin (new)

Justin (justineaton) | 3492 comments Mod
Although i don't really care either way, My vote would be for a re-vote. The people who voted but most likely aren't going to participate probably won't re vote either.

Good point.

message 42: by Andy (new)

Andy (manicsloth) | 787 comments Kate, since you voted for Nightwhere and always participate in the read, why don't you switch to one of the two as a tiebreaker. Just pick whichever of the books you'd prefer and the rest of us will go with it.

No hard feelings, right Pacers?

message 43: by Addy (new)

Addy | 1944 comments Nope;)

message 44: by Vicki Willis (new)

Vicki Willis I would like either. Fine with me.

message 45: by Kate (new)

Kate | 1106 comments Mod
I would, but I don't own either of those two books so I wouldn't be participating. :(

message 46: by Kate (new)

Kate | 1106 comments Mod
I asked on HA if anyone could lend me either book.

I'll still put it to a revote though as I might not get anywhere with lending.
