Dear Jina,
As I wrote to Linda I am so glad Emily's books brought us together, I don't know if I would have made it sanely if I didn't have all of you to talk to.
Did you get the e-card I sent to you and the Girls? I have never used Blue Mountain cards before that is why I asked. I think it was the perfect card for you.

Dear Lola,
Thank you so much for the thoughtful card. It was beautiful and just perfect! It truly made our day. Heather and I have a touch of the stomach flu today so it really helped pick up our spirits. Heather had some news today that hurt her feelings and so the card couldn't have come at a better time. Thank you for being so thoughtful. Your such a treasured friend. So glad we met and are able to lift each other up and celebrate together too.
Hugs to you my friend,

Oh yes. This group is such a blessing. I was at work when I read Lola's message today. I was so overwhelmed with joy that I started crying and I couldn't see to type. lol I just think it is so wonderful that we can help one another be it by words of encouragement or by interceeding in prayer. I love this little group of ours and I hope it never ends. I am waiting on pins and needles for the loan people to get back to us with an answer to our application. I keep checking my email. I know I can't hurry it along, I am just anxious. I am so looking forward to having a home all my own where I can do as I please without asking for permission before making any changes or getting a pet. I so want another dog. I miss my puppies so much. We had to give them up and it broke my heart. I just can't visualize a home without a dog. I hope all is well with you and that Sarah Faith is feeling better. You all continue to be in my prayers. Peace be with you. Linda Manthey

Dear Linda,
Did you receive an email from me about the checklist? I sent it a few days ago. It points out areas inspectors are supposed to check when going over a property. It would be a good thing for you to have along when you are looking at a house. That way you are checking outlets, foundation, looking for any water damage or leaking pipes etc... Knowing these things about a property will help you in negotiations and most sellers dont mind fixing minor problems to get a house sold OR coming down in price so you can fix it. Are you looking into USDA secured loan? I just went through all this 2 years ago when we bought our current home. The home we had wasnt set up or able to be set up for a person in a wheelchair so we had to move. I know a lot of tips and websites you can go to that will help you make sure you dont get a property that needs too much work or issues and there are sites which will tell you the best school districts, property tax areas etc. Let me know if I can help. I am here for you however you need me. Take care.
Sincerely Yours
Jina

Dear Linda,
I have my finger ,toes and eyes crossed that you get your good news about the loan soon ! With this group praying for you all will go well! Did anyone in your Family serve in the Military ? A VA loan is how we got our first house. I don't remember what part of the country you live in. How is the housing market there? I understand your need for a dog, Sadie is a brat but I love her ! I can't wait for her to get out of this puppy stage, she is starting to thank goodness!

Dear Kay,

I haven't stopped smiling !! This group of Girlfriends helped so much. I found it hard to think about what Dave would have to go through if he had to have chemo. He is one skinny dude with no extra weight to lose. You would know the only one in our Family that is skinny is a man!:-) Wolf lost over 60 pounds while on chemo. That was scary! Thanks to God his last Drs. visit declared him cancer free and he only has to go in once a year now.

You have a happy peaceful weekend! Hugs Lola

I definitely understand about the weight Lola. My brother, Allen, just completed 6 months of chemo. He had some weight to lose and though it may sound weird he is looking great. Chemo is very hard and so very glad your brother will not have to go through it. God's true blessing!

I think I have every address I need for the moment, so I'll post a progress report as soon as they all go out!

I think we need a new question or a new cause to get some creative and conversational juices going ... so let's do some thinking and come up with a new challenge, shall we? If you have any thoughts, send them my way!

Take care, everyone --- Paula

Dear Paula,
The holidays are coming... Halloween, Thanksgiving, and Christmas and then New Years Eve. Maybe we could do a challenge or question about the holidays. We know Celeste decorates with angels everywhere. Maybe a question about decorations, what we are most thankful for, favorite carols or favorite memory or tradition about the holidays.
I had told y'all that Heather got her feelings hurt Friday. I will tell you about it because it ties into what I think Eternity Springs is all about. Heather is taught mostly by my oldest daughter Samantha and I and she has an awesome "homebound" teacher named Sherry. Miss Sherry comes to our house for an hour and a half every Tuesday and Friday mornings. We all love her teacher and the teacher really loves us in return. Friday morning as the teacher was picking up paperwork to bring to us for Heather, she was informed that she will no longer be Heathers teacher effective immediately. Because Heather is disabled and "homebound" indefinitely, they assigned a special Exceptional Childrens teacher to Heather instead. Since Heathers brain injury, she has similar traits to an autistic child in that she doesn't take change well at all and any change to daily schedule or routine really upsets her. When we told Heather she cried and said "No I want you" and shook from head to toe, she didnt want Miss Sherry to leave and when she did go, Miss Sherry had tears in her eyes too and Heather stood at our front door waving and giving the sign language "I love you" sign. We had to give Heather a mild sedative and put on one of her favorite movies to get her mind off it. BUT the bright side is 2 things, the new teacher is retiring in 6 weeks so Miss Sherry will probably be back. And Sherry is doing a New Years Resolution with Samantha and I. We started Monday and this week is our "cleanse" week. We are each trying to lose 25 lbs. We keep in contact with her through Facebook and phone calls. Today Heather seen her new teacher. It was a lady named Debra who we have had contact with before. She's good with Heather and Heather likes her so she wasnt as upset that Sherry wasnt here.
I'm sorry I haven't been on lately. I was sick with the stomach flu and bad headache for about 4 days. I still have a mild headache above my right eye but I am better today. Everyday this week the girls have 2 appointments each day. So we are doing a lot of running here and there. I will try to be better about getting on here.
I hope everyone enjoys their gifts when they get them. The girls and I are excited to find out what everyone thinks of their bracelet and extras. Take care everyone!
Sincerely Yours,
Jina

Hi, Jina -- I can only imagine what that was like for Heather. Attachments aren't easy to make, and change is hard for all of us, but especially difficult for young women like Heather who need a greater degree of stability. Hopefully Sherry will be back.

I love the idea of favorite holiday traditions! I love the idea of sharing holiday memories -- funny, sweet, and everything in between.

Take care of yourself, get well, and we'll be here when you feel better! Hugs to your girls from all of us,

Paula

Jina Gibbs | 763 comments I meant to explain how our life and situation reminds me of Eternity Springs. Sherry told Heather about Debra and explained she knows things that can help Heather that she didnt know. And Debra is allowing Sherry to stay in the loop and attend a future meeting at the school about goals for Heather and classes for next semester etc... So its really nice that most of the people in Heathers life are all looking out for whats best for Heather and making sure that she has contact with those she is close to. They all try to praise Heathers accomplishments and give her hugs and encouragement for any setbacks. They focus on the big picture and check their egos at the door. We are very lucky and grateful we have such a caring network of people. Thats how it reminds me of Eternity Springs.
Sincerely,
Jina

Exactly, Jina. So often we hear of school systems and authority figures being territorial and making the system so complicated that parents and students feel lost. When my daughter got 'lost' in the system her junior year, we found a private Quaker school that was perfect for her - because it embodied those "Eternity Springs" values of respect, teamwork, looking out for each other, and treating every student as an individual, celebrating their strengths and successes and coaching them through the tough times. Thank you for sharing that with us and generating a happy memory for me. You are all SO special.

Thank you Lola! Be careful about that neck, if it isnt better by tomorrow get yourself to a doctor quick. There is a strain of flu that gives body aches but it starts with neck pain plus thats a first sign for several other illnesses so dont take a sore neck lightly. Especially if you haven't done anything to injure it to account for tge pain. Keep us informed. Hugs to you my friend.

Lola I am so sorry about your neck. I have been there three times and couldn't drive for a few days cause I couldn't turn my head because of the pain. Excruciating! Good drugs (muscle relaxant, anti flammatory, and Vicodin) and hot baths or heating pad were the only things that helped. Found out I have neck arthritis and really aggravated it. Hope yours is temporary and you feel better soon.

It means a quiz every other day or a test plus the assignments. I try to have everything graded in 24 hours so I get overwhelmed a couple times during the 8 weeks because my students who wait to the last minute catch up with the ones who do the assignments the first day they are given.

Lola | 1001 comments Hi Girls,
Thanks for all your good wishes.I am still sore but better thanks to ibuprofen & that Blue Emu rub. The pain last night made think about all the pain Heather and Sarah Faith have gone through in their lives. You girls are BRAVE!!!

As I changed the sheets Friday I wondered if any of you have leg cramps in your sleep? We used to have this column in our paper ,I think his name was Dr.Ott ,he wrote about home cures, one of these is putting a piece of hand soap under the bottom sheet ,Surprise it works! It doesn't have to be a big piece ,I use little slivers on both sides at the foot, only Dial soap doesn't work. I told my sister about this working for us and it stopped her and her Hubbys leg cramps too.
Maybe that could be another contest home hints that work. Another of mine is I put good smelling cat litter in the bottom of all my trash cans ,it absorbs all leaks , you shake it and it smells good again.
Hugs Lola

Oh, Lola - I know how that feels!! I used to have a lot of trouble with a cervical vertebra that was oddly shaped. I had to keep one of those collars at home, and I used hot wraps around my neck and down my shoulders, with as much advil as you're allowed to take.

As I got older, I developed a different problem following a car accident, and ended up having neck surgery. The neurosurgeon fixed that other thing while he was in there! Now I haven't had pain in three years, UNLESS I spend too much time sitting at the computer.

All you can do is rest and support that neck. If you have a collar, wear it to take the stress off - if not, they have them at drug stores - one size tends to fit all unless you are very tiny. Take care & keep us posted!!

Wow, Brandi! You'll have to tell us about the release. I'm on a few street teams, plus I run a promotions service, so I know about the pressure to catch up on reading. I have to do that this evening if my husband can quietly watch TV without telling me every scene or saying, "You have to see this!" 100 times in less than an hour.

I love him, all of him...except the part that interrupts my reading!

I have never heard that but how amazing is it? It sounds like aromatherapy for the muscles. I used to have leg cramps - I had a calcium deficiency and a vitamin D deficiency pre-menopause. I occasionally get them now, but it's rare. I will try this for my husband, though - but if I tell him about it, he will laugh at me. Until it works, that is...

Dear Lola,
I am glad you are feeling better. Blue Emu does help some aches and pains, so does whirlpool tubs and heating pads.. lol. As for my girls pain, I am in awe of my children. They have endured pain people usually dont go through until they are much older. It hurts my heart and soul to see them in pain. I seriously cant stand to see them cry. They are real troopers though and Heather is so used to pain that her tolerance threshold is so high she rarely cries from pain. In the hospital the doctors and nurses come running if she cries because that means something is seriously wrong. My kids are a blessing and a gift and I thank God every day for letting me keep them. When Heather had her heart attack I was doing CPR and yelling for Heather not to leave me. After the EMTs came and shocked her back and took her in the ambulance I was praying and bargaining with God to take me instead, she hadnt had the chance to live yet or I told Him "I'll do anything you want, just let me keep my daughter. Dont take her home with you yet". He answered my prayers and let me keep her with me. I have a bad feeling that I will outlive her. But while I am lucky enough to have her I treasure everyday. Even the bad ones. Some days I just wish it wasn't so hard. The financial part of her care and now Sarahs care is astronomical! Heather has been turned down for disability 5 times so we are going to get a lawyer to represent us and let them work on it. However I appreciate your well wishes and kind thoughts and prayers. It really helps lift my spirits and keep me going. I am having one of my "weepy" days so bear with me. "This too shall pass..." Tomorrow will be a better day.
My mom swears by soap under the sheets for leg cramps, also bananas for cramps. Mint to keep mice and snakes away. Peppermint for a sour stomach and Canada dry ginger ale for stomache aches. I have a hand written booklet of homemade cures and tips passed from my great great grandma from the" Old country".
Take care.
Hugs to you my friend,
Jina

One of my New Years Resolutions is to lose 25 lbs. Heathers homebound teacher is doing the resolution with me. The difference in our resolutions is that we want to lose as much of those 25 lbs by New Years as possible and so by January we have our new "good habits" already staarted and hopefully working. Jina Gibbs | 763 comments Dear Group,
Teardrop Lane is a book that stresses the importance of patience and flexibility of parenting. I have tried to learn this lesson but it's a daily struggle either with the girls or regarding the girls or between the girls. I'm either trying to find patience with dealing with one of them or patience in dealing with one of their doctors or patience when they are fighting each other. My girls are alike in many ways but so completely different in others. I love them all the same but I have to treat each one differently because what works with one does not work with the other two. I have raised them to be proud of themselves as individuals and I praise their strengths while I also praise how hard they work on their weaknesses. They fill my heart with joy and sometimes they can try my patience I could just sit on them until they say "Uncle". They are too old too spank and spanking them hurt my hand worse than it hurt them so I gave up years ago. Cicero has his hands full with his 4 little darlings. My youngest daughter, Sarah Faith, has ALWAYS been wide open, full steam ahead, scared of nothing. She has given me more gray hair and panic attacks than the other two combined. This child has had 8 broken bones, 6 concussions, 4 surgeries (this year alone) and today another surgery is scheduled for November 5-6. After this mornings appointment and being made to feel like an absolute total failure as a mother and the subsequent following 2 hours of me bawling my eyes out and making a dozen phone calls to arrange everything. I probably have 50 more gray hairs and I feel two years older than when I woke up this morning. A friend of mine called me and I was in full mothers guilt mode and so she told me " ok girlfriend you have 30 more minutes to throw this pity party you got going on but you know good and well that you devote your life to caring for those girls. So this Doctor who has never seen you before and doesn't know your life or your challenges made the assumption you neglected Sarah. Brush it off, you know better. In 30 minutes put your big girl panties on and do what you do, which is... make the calls you need to make, make sure your ducks are in a row and hug your girls. Love you... mean it!" So I did. I've got the massive headache from crying which reminds me crying doesnt accomplish anything but a headache. I am so glad the kids in this story had Cicero. Sorry for ranting about my day. Hugs to all.
Sincerely,
Jina

Wow, Jina - what a horrible day. I'm so sorry that happened to you. We are conditioned to view doctors as authority figures, but they are just people - and some of them are judgmental jerks. I hope you have an opportunity to tell that doctor privately - or tell your insurance company - what that experience was like for you. Words matter, and there is no room for judgmental behavior toward patients and families -- ever.

I don't think I could ever do what you do every day. Until someone has walked your path, they can never, ever understand and are in no position to judge you. Don't take any stuff off of that kind of people - give as good as you get. :-/

When the doctor told me he was "ashamed of me as a parent" because my daughter had an abcessed tooth and we've had her on antibiotics for over 2 weeks and hadnt gotten her into a dentist before today to fix it. But in his next breath he said he wouldn't treat her either and that he was referring her to UNC Chapel Hill to have dental surgery. And when he asked why I hadnt brought her sooner to him I told him the truth, that they wouldn't make the appointment until I had a referal from the pediatrician and the pediatrician called and made the appointment because I wasnt able to get one when I called. He had nothing to say to that. My husband was upset I didnt tell him off. My biggest weak spot is someone telling me I am not caring properly for my girls. It hits me where I live and knocks my feet out from under me. BUT I ALWAYS get back up. Thanks for the support again.
Hugs to you my friend and cheerleader,
Jina

Kay (kkfar) | 502 comments Oh Jina what a horrendous experience. Ditto to what Lola and Paula have said. We all know what a wonderful Mother and person you are. Don't let someone who doesn't know you make you feel less than you are. The people around you know who you are as a person, your kids know who you as an awesome mother and your husband knows you as a wonderful wife. And all those people love and care about you. So forget about the person who knows nothing about you and has no right to judge you.

Dear Kay,
Thank you for your support! Y'all are such wonderful friends. You lift me up when I am down and help me find my footing again. For that I cant thank you all enough. I get overwhelmed sometimes and wore out and wore down and someone says something like that doctor did today and it takes awhile for me to get over it. My head knows that he doesn't know me or my situation or how much I do for my girls but my heart gets crushed because I take pride in being a Mom. Its my most important most rewarding all consuming job. My pay is smiles and hugs and I live for that pay. But tomorrow is a new day... I will make it a better day than today. I am going to take Heather to get her nails done! I just decided to do that tomorrow so good night yall. Sweet dreams and thank you for always being there for me
Hugs,
Jina

Dear Lola,
You so totally rock girlfriend!!! I wish I had your backbone! I dont think I could do that unless I was medicated. The whole "my butt is hanging out for the world to see" thing would stop me from going out of the room. I have left in the middle of an exam because the Dr was hurting me and telling me that the pain was all in my head. I went to a different doctor and had a MRI with contrast done 2 days later and it showed my rotator cuff was tore, my bicep tendon was tore and I had a SLAP tear in my shoulder. I had a copy made of the results sent to the first doctor with a carefully worded letter from me stating that it "definitely wasnt "all in my head" when it clearly shows in the MRI. Why is it so hard to get doctors to believe someone when we say we hurt? I understand some people abuse medications but why do they assume that from the start? Anyway, your story made me laugh. Can I be you when I grow up?
Sincerely,
Jina

Lola | 1001 comments Dear Jina,

Back then I had a fine looking butt lol "but" really I was so mad I didn't even care. I was having really bad periods and he said it was, almost like your Dr., "all in my head" .Thank goodness I found a really great Doctor that listened to me, too bad the VA thought so too and hired him to run their Hospital. Come to find out I had Endometriosis and my uterus had dropped ,I had to have a hysterectomy. My Doctor sent the Ahole Dr. a letter letting him have it. So you see some Doctors are really great.
And yes you can be me, I would be honored! Hugs Lola

Dear Lola,
Woo hoo! Yay me! Something to really look forward to and shoot for. I take it you were in the service. Thank you for your service to our country! I honor you. And since you were in the service you probably could give me some great tips on how to get in shape. Any advice and pointing me in a direction whether it be a book of healthy recipes or workouts or dvds to use I would really appreciate it. I am really trying to lose some weight and get healthy so I will be able to take care of Heather for a very long time. She will probably need someone to care for her full time for many years to come. I am still praying she has a full recovery but until that happens I have to plan for my caring for her. Thanks in advance for everything.
Hugs to you,
Jina

Lola | 1001 comments No sorry , the VA Hospital for Montana is in Helena (about 30 miles from us) ,the Capital . Wolf worked in Helena for the State. I was never in the service but Wolf was in Vietnam, where he learn about phones , that's what he did for the State.
On weight loss I have come to the conclusion diets do not work! As soon as you tell yourself you can't have something you want it more than ever. I started using a desert plate instead of a dinner plate ,that helps, and I let myself have anything I want. Only I take a bite or two and I am happy. Except for pizza I have to have 2 slices lol. Drinking water does help but I drink iced tea, water is so boring lol. I use agave syrup instead of sugar and lots of olive oil in my cooking and only butter no margarine. Exercise I think is most important, I love all of the Leslie Sansone: Walk Away the Pounds DVDs and her yoga and ball workouts. I have an Elliptical Machine that I really like working out with but I just have to get back into doing it. And I like to put in my earbuds and put on some good old classic Rock on my ipod and dance around the house, Bob Seger & The Silver Bullet Band is one of my favorites for rocking out! Lastly working out with weights is important to strengthen your muscles. I hold a 5 # weight when I do my crunches on the ball and 10 # when I do my arm workouts. I will be 67 next month and I am in better shape, strength ways, than when I was in my twenties . Gardening helps in the summer always hauling something heavy around and living in a split level house ,running up and down the stairs too many times a day to count helps too. I have had a weight problem my whole life ,my whole family does except Dave of course. So lets get rid of our 25 pounds together! I'm game if you are? We can email what we eat and what exercises we do everyday, or what ever you like. You let me know, I am still not exercising because my neck is still not 100 % yet.
OMG it's 1:30 I better head for bed! Hugs Lola

Dear Group,
Has anyone besides me ever done the "movie" workouts? For instance the Harry Potter workout challenge when a spell is cast you do 10 jumping jacks, when points are taken away you do 10 lunges when Hagrid says "I shouldnt have said that" you do 50 jumping jacks. Its fun. You do sit ups when someone says "he who must not be named". Its really cool and when several spells are back to back and things are happening quickly... you really get moving. Sarah and I do it and Heather tries. We usually end up rolling on the floor laughing our butts off at each other, or heaven forbid I cut the cheese and all sense of decorum goes out the window then. I will scan and post a copy of the work out so yall can try it. Its really fun.
Love you.... mean it,
Jina
