Dear group,Hello. I hope everyone is doing well. We are ok healthwise. Heather isnt so good. The stress of the storm has sent her emotions and stamina spiralling out of control. The flooding is so bad school was cancelled for the whole week, all of her Drs appts have been cancelled or rescheduled so no appts this week which with someone like Heather that needs scheduled days and prepared for each day, it was horrible for her. We had to give her sedatives from the time the power went out even through today. She's struggling. As far as damage our roof is toast. We have a man coming tomorrow to give us an estimate. Right now if it rained it would leak into most rooms of our house. We lost a couple trees but we werent hurt and we are together so we are faring much better than most in our area. So we are counting our blessings and praying that God handles the rest.
With this extra time on my hands I am going through my books. I am currently reading about 5 books. One is Christmas in Eternity Springs. Its absolutely wonderful. This time of year I read some seasonal books as well. I have a couple authors who write Halloween type books, and a couple authors with Thanksgiving stories and of course Christmas stories. I also am looking for an autobiography of Teddy Roosevelt. Do you all have authors you read at certain times of the year? Or certain authors that are your go-to authors when you are in the mood for something funny, scarey, heartwarming, ones that make you think, etc.. I would love to hear what authors you seek out and how you choose to read what you read and when.
Love to all,
Jina
Ps. If anyone if interested in looking at areas with storm damage and what it looks like here where I live, you can check out my Facebook page (Jina Gibbs the name to find me). Or you can check on the computer and watch local news stations like WITN 7, WCNT, WCTI. I have posted pictures and videos on my Facebook page. I ask that you please pray for North Carolina as well as South Carolina, Georgia and Florida. I know my prayer warriors here will and do make a difference. Love you,
Jina

So thankfull that you are all safe but so sorry that your house is damaged. Hope the estimate for the roof isn't too bad.
How on earth do you manage to keep reading 5 books at a time straight in your head with everything else you have to contend with? The most I can manage at one time is two. I usually read Debbie Macomber's Christmas novels & of course Emily's. Take care x

Dear Lesley,
This is how I read more than 1 or 2. Like right now I have 1 in my car that I read when going to appts. I read that one while waiting on the girls to be done. That book is Nora Roberts "Captivated", its an easy read and entertaining with just a few characters. Then I have one in Heathers "Go bag", its an adult version of a diaper bag and I read that one is Fern Michaels Men of Sisterhood "Fast and Loose". Another easy read, Ive read all the others in the series and so this is easy to keep up. I keep one by my bed which is Sheila Roberts "On Strike for Christmas" its funny and heartwarming and the characters remind me of my friends. I keep Emilys new book with me wherever I go, I read it while cooking, take it to the bathroom with me and read it on the porcelain throne. Then last but not least I read a more in depth novel for instance I finished Jacqueline Careys "Kushiels Dart" , before that it was Juliet Marilliers "Daughter of the forest" wonderful book by the way and one for my "all time favorites" shelf.
I am able to keep the characters and books straight in my head pretty easily. I have the added blessing of turning the books I read into a mini movie in my head when I read. So picking the book back up after reading something else is like putting in a vhs tape and starting up where the show left off. There is a name for that type of reader but I forget what its called. What are your all time favorite books or an author whose books are always your favorites?
Love you,
Jina
Ps. I love Debbie Macombers books. I especially love the "Blossom Street novels" I even have some of her "Prayer Shawl" books of scarves, shawls, ponchos, and lap blankets that you can crochet, knit or quilt.

Jina, Thank you for explaining how you manage to read so many books together. If you remember what that type of reader is please let me know. I always enjoy Emily's books but I also enjoy authors who write series about a place or family where there are a different main character & the same minor characters in the novels. Some of my favorite authors are Debbie Macomber, Susan Mallery, Robyn Carr, Maria Force, Nora Roberts, Barbara Bradford Taylor & Danielle Steele.

Dear Lesley,
I collect Nora Roberts books and love them!!! When I was in my first marriage I collected Danielle Steele' s books. One of my all time favorite books is "Thurston House". I dearly love that book and have read it over and over many times. I was in 4 th Grade the first time I read it. I have 3 copies of it. The one I read over and over and a hardback version and another paperback. I will put a copy in each of my girls hope chests when they go out on their own. I dearly love Robyn Carr and her Virgin River series. As Nell says "Boy Howdy" are they addictive. The other authors I havent read yet. Can you recommend a book from each of the other authors? I am always looking for new authors to try.
With Love,
Jina
Jina,I read like you do. Have 3 or 4 books going plus the textbook for the class that I am teaching. I love Robyn Carr's Virgin River series. I also read RaeAnne Thayne 's Haven Point series starting with Snow Angel Cove and I reread her Hope's Crossing series. I also felling love with Debra Clopton's s Mule Hollow Matchmakers series staring with The Trouble with Lacy Brow. I also like the rest of her series.
Hope things are getting into more of a routine for Heather, Hope the estimate to get the roof fixed is not to bad. Continuing to pray for you and the girls as well as the whole area. It looks like it will be a while before the area is back to normal.

Sorry that I have been AWOL. Things just got busy with the class that I taught the 1st eight weeks and started the 2nd eight week class without having all the paperwork done. Finally starting to catch up. I am suppose to get my copy of Emily's New book delivered tomorrow so then I can read the discussions about it.

Jina for Debbie Macomber have a look at the Rose Harbor Series or the Cedar Cove one. Rose Harbor is the shorter one & they are better red in order. Marie Force - Macarthys of Gansett Island Series, Susan Mallery - Fools Gold Series or The Girls from Mischief Bay. Danielle Steel usually rights standalone & her latest is 'Rushing Waters'. If you like something a little 'racy' Marie Force has recently published one called Sex Machine. It's worth having a look at each of their Author Websites as the seem to write a couple of different styles which might suit you better. x

Dear Lesley,
I have read some of Debbie Macs Cedar Cove but one of her books really left a bad taste in my mouth. I am not saying the book wasnt good but with what I was going through, the abusive husband and rocky marriage, that particular book struck too close to home and I couldn't finish. I thought about skipping that book and trying to go on with the series starting with the next one in the series but I just couldn't do it. Maybe now that that particular chapter of my personal life is closed I could finish the book. But I still have a very hard time reading anything that has abusive characters or even a person who arent standing up for themselves or have a "woe is me" attitude. I still sometimes have nightmares about my first marriage and wake up in a full blown panic attack, (the Dr says its battered wife syndrome with is close to the same thing as PTSD.) I am much better now and have an absolutely wonderful supportive husband who NEVER raises his voice, lays a hand on me or the kids and treats my kids as if they are his own. I am so completely blessed. I know some authors need the abuse story line to teach the lesson they want their readers to learn and to help educate people on what its like, that way they can recognize the signs in friends and neighbors so they can help or show kindness to them and help. I am sorry I have gotten off topic but you see it is an area of life that I am passionate about. My husband and I have opened our home 3 times so far to friends and neighbors who needed to get out of their situation. We always told them, we will help you as much as we can but if you go back to the abuser we cant help you anymore. My husband Michael drew the line at the "back and forth" and adamantly wouldnt allow the drama to effect our kids or danger to follow the abusee to our home. But can you tell me if the other books after that deal with abusers or violence?
With love to you,
Jina
Ps sorry I got off topic.

I understand where you are coming from. The series deals with all sorts of different situations, but I cann't recall the title of the one you refer to but it's so long since I read them. I think that you should be alright with the RoseHarbor Series or Marie Force's Macarthy series. x
HI All,Sorry I have been MIA but I have been having seizures and kind of out of it. I also found out my Brother's cancer is back ,which didn't help my seizures. Hey all, the national readers awards are looking for judges. here is the link to sign up. https://okrwa.com/contests/nrca/
Hello everyone - it's been uncommonly long since I checked in, which is regrettable, but also reflective of the chaos that life has become recently. I think I need a group hug. I'm all but burnt out right now, trying and failing to keep up with things at work, home, online, on my blog and with my book. I've been taking a writing workshop on the Mendo Coast every week, and it's been great - but the round-trip travel takes its toll and leaves me useless the following day. It also doesn't help that my Goodreads notifications have fallen off again and I'm not getting alerts to new posts, which are really important to me. I'm going to take some time now, while I can devote myself to it, and catch up on messages here.
I'm thinking about taking a long break from my blogging pursuits, and withdrawing from further reviews for a while. I truly feel like it's not as fun or fulfilling as it always has been - my inbox overflows every day, and I'm bad at saying no.
From the 31st - the 4th of November, I'm taking a health retreat to deal with a few medical and emotional issues that are weighing me down, over in St. Helena, CA. Our son is getting married on the 5th in Sacramento. And the following week this blasted election will be over. I've never been so stressed out by the political climate in my life -- and I lived through the 1960's. That says a LOT about the shape our country is in.
I'd like to believe things will settle down a bit after that, and I can find the physical and emotional energy to take on the holidays. I'' try and check in daily over the weekend. Take care.

Hey Paula,Sorry so many things are bring you down, I too will be so glad when this election is over. I had a bad seizure and chip part of a front and bottom tooth . I went to the Dentist and he fixed the front tooth but I had another seizure in the chair ,so Wolf took me home. I have an appointment on my Birthday to have my bottom tooth fixed. No more seizures thank goodness .
My new washer and dryer were delivered yesterday but they almost dropped the washer, it hit against the wall and it knocked the "add wash" small door out of alinement so I refused delivery . So now I have to wait for a new washer to be shipped, it is a Samsung so it may be 2 weeks without a washer and I have already given away my old washer. It is always some thing!
A Big Hug From Me , Lola

Hugs (((()))! So glad to hear from you! Look sweetie, this is a" no pressure ,safe zone" check in when you can and delegate when you need to. I am sure "the usual Sisterhod" of members will pick up thee slack and help anyway we can. For instance, email one of us to take over for a couple days in the discussion answering posts until you have time to come back. Email a subject or question that we can post here and get comments and keep things rolling, like a question about what character is our favorite and why, we had this question before but it was early in the series and we know more about more characters now. Its just an idea but it would keep comments coming in and would free up your time.
Another thing I was wondering, the discussion questions on the new book have disappeared on my groups page, could be a glitch since Goodreads is having some trouble lately.
Plus, if you are bogged down with reviews ask one of us... tbe angel team to read it for you and write a review or summary for you to look over. We are your team and sisters with a love for reading. I know I need to broaden my reading genre. We are here for you however you need us.
I am so sorry you are burnt out. You've had a tough year and have been pushing yourself too hard. Be kind to yourself.
I am here if you need me.
Love you,

Dear Lola,
So sorry/ for your seizures. I know they must be scary and hard to live with. I feel so helpless when Heather or Sarah have one. I hope your tooth doesnt hurt. Hopefully your washer will get there soon. We just had to buy a new dryer. You were smart to refuse the shipment.
Have you ever tried hemp oil for your seizures? Its legal in some states, Virginia is one state its legal. If Heathers get really bad we might consider moving if it would help her. She has enough issues Id like to help her feel better anyway that works. Does coloring help? I know stress makes Heathers and Sarahs worse and more often. Take care and be kind to yourself.
Love you,
Jina and the girls
Dear Jina,Thanks Dear Sister, I sure am glad to have all these Sisters just when I need you all the most! It scares Wolf so bad when I have seizures because he was almost always at work when I had them during the day. Luckily I just have them a couple of times a year for a few days and then they go away . I think this time it was losing Cornelia so fast then learning Dave's cancer is back was just too much for me. I have a medical card for here in Montana. I have been taking it easy and am feeling much better.
I too could help you Paula anytime you need me! Did you hear about the big internet thing with Amazon and all these other site ,scary I wonder how much of our info they got? That is why I do not store any of my info on sites.
Hugs Lola
I signed up for the national readers, I was so happy I did last year because I found one of my new favorite authors Carolyn Brown , I have listen to almost all of her books on Audible. We try to do too much. You have to put down time in or you burn out. I am trying to get things back on a even kneel . I said yes too much this year. It is always busy with a wedding/ Enjoy your son's wedding/ Take a deep breath and relaz. As jina said , everyone hear can keep the discussion goings until you can get back. I finally have my copy of Rmily's book which I plan to start reading.
Sorry to have been MIA again. Boy have I missed a lot! I'm sorry for all of the challenges that have come your way. I have been so tired lately I just go to bed and relax when I get home from work. The commute has been getting to me. It took me almost two hours to get home on Thursday and almost an hour last night. It wears me out. I just applied for another position this morning for merchandising with Home Depot. It would be so nice to not have to drive that distance everyday. It is in God's hands so I will wait and see what happens. I pray for you all to be relieved of the stresses in your lives.
Lola I am sorry to hear about your brother. I pray treatment will bring him to remission once again. And I pray the seizures will subside and you are blessed with good health and a peaceful heart.
Paula, I always go back to my favorite scripture Psalms 46 when my plate too full. The words in this Psalm just remind me of the power of letting go of self and allowing the strength of God to guide and lead me to where I need to be. The Power of God is so greatly professed in this scripture. If He can move a mountain He can surely tackle anything that comes our way. I think the release of the issue is the defining moment for me. If I can lay it down and trust the Lord to guide the way to a solution I am much better off. It is not an easy place for me to get to because I usually try to fix it all myself, but when I reach that point I can breathe a sigh of relief and know all will be well with my soul. I used to wonder why I had to go through things, why didn't God just take the bad things away. But I have learned through all of my life's trials, it is in the midst of the storm where I find my faith is the strongest and I am closest to God. Basically, I learn the hard way. lol
Peace Be With You My Friends.
We will be triumphant in the end. Just you wait and see.
Love and hugs to you all.
Linda Manthey
1 God is our refuge and strength,
an ever-present help in trouble.
2 Therefore we will not fear, though the earth give way
and the mountains fall into the heart of the sea,

and the mountains quake with their surging.[c]

the holy place where the Most High dwells.
5 God is within her, she will not fall;
God will help her at break of day.

the desolations he has brought on the earth.
9 He makes wars cease

He breaks the bow and shatters the spear;
he burns the shields[d] with fire.

Hi Everyone, Update on Judy, Mark & John - Judy has finished radiotherapy & is now trying to regain her strength & awaiting next scan & results. Mark has completed 6/6 chemo sessions with surprisingly few side effects, extreme tiredness & tingling fingers. Scan next week.
Hoping for the best result possible in both cases.
John - It appears after several more tests & investigations that his Doctor was ORIGINALLY sent SOMEONE ELSES' test results. So thankfully there is nothing wrong with him. Feel sorry for the person who got Jogn's results & thinks that they are ok. Luv to all.

Hi Linda, thank you for your prayers they are much appreciated. As I type this my sister is on her way to spend a few days with us as she is in need of some TLC to help her regain some strength. She also needs to see a different 'four walls' for a while as there hasn't been much other than home & hospital visits since May. I'm looking forward to seeing her & hopefully do something to help her for awhile. Love & hugs to all xx

I enjoyed everything I read.
Hi group,I was reading and my mind was wandering. If you were making a movie based on Christmas in Eternity Springs, who would you cast for Brick? What about the other characters? While reading I pictured Tom Selleck for Brick. Just like he is on Blue Bloods tv show.

Dear Lesley,
I hope all is well with you and your family. My prayers continue to have you and your family in them. I was wondering if y'all celebrate Halloween? Or is there more of a Samhain(sp?) vibe during this part of the year. When I was growing up we celebrated the bountiful harvest and Halloween. We also celebrated May Day. Complete with leaving baskets of goodies on peoples doorstop and had a Maypole. In some stories thats a magical thing but we had a blast as kids. What is the customs there?
With love,

Hi Jina, We seem to be doing reasonably ok at present. Mark finished his first round of 6 chemo sessions & is waiting his scan results to find out what is going to happen next.
My sister Judy has just gone back home after staying with me for a week so I could give her some TLC for a little while. Although she is still in considerable pain from her radiotherapy treatment, which should get better with time; she is now in a better position mentally so hopefully things will slowly get better for her.
In respect of Hallowen, people seem to celebrate it alot more than I was young in the 50s/60s when we just had Bonfire Night .
Hope you, Micheal & girls are all doing ok. Luv xx
Good Morning All,Today my Baby is 46 lol About this time of day 46 years ago I was telling Wolf he was never touching me again lol! Jen and Bill are coming over for Jen's favorite Hefeklosse, German yeast dumpling with vanilla sauce. Love Lola
Hi, ladies - I've just caught up on the latest family updates from all of you who posted yesterday and today. I'm glad some of you have had an opportunity to reach out and provide comfort to loved ones in need of TLC.
I need to think about Curmudgeon Callahan...that's what I think of when I read about his crankiness.
OK - now two things:
1. I am in St. Helena this week, participating in a fitness retreat that's covered by my insurance plan. I need to re-set myself and this is hopefully going to jump-start that. The last time I did something like this I was exhausted but definitely found it worthwhile. I'll check messages and posts in the evening before bed - the days are 12 hour diet-fitness-classes extravaganzas...
2. I read a hilarious novella today that some - but not all of you - might really enjoy. It's called "Getting Off" - and before you think the worst, it's part of the "Elevator Series" by one of my favorite new authors, Katherine Stevens.p The first book in the series, "Going Down" was also hysterical but a bit naughtier. This novella is a Thanksgiving spin-off featuring the original couple, going home to the parents for Thanksgiving. Everything that could go wrong, does go wrong. It's a little bit naughty but a whole lot of hilarious family humor. If you've ever had a holiday you'd like to forget, this one will top it. Anyway...for those of you that have a touch of wild child in you, check it out. I'll be posting my review shortly - but after driving over here in the dark and the rain, I can barely string a sentence together tonight.
Later!
Hi All ,Well I finally got my new replacement washer, man what I pile of clothes I had going . Good thing this washer can hold a lot! Wow are they neat looking, almost "Jetson" worthy , lol how many of you remember The Jetsons lol. So far I love them . If you want to check them out they are Samsung front load washer and dryer with the add wash door and steam clean. What a great price we got ,I looked at them the other day and the price was twice what we paid on sale. The funny thing is they play a tune when they are finished ,Wolf and I cracked up ,first washer we have had that was musical .Love, Lola

lol!!! You have a new form of entertainment. I suppose the next step will be Karaoke spin cycle. lol. I'm glad you finally got them. I know what it is like to be without them.
Thank you, I needed a good chuckle today.
Hugs,
Linda Manthey
That is fantastic, Lola! And hilarious. I would love the steam clean option. We bought ours in 2004...no music. They just sit there. :-/
Okay, ladies, that fitness retreat kicked my butt. Seriously. We had at least 3 hours of exercise every day, a vegan diet, at least 64 ounces of water, at least 10,000 steps a day, and seminars. We were scheduled for 12-14 hour days, and by the time I got back to my room at 8:00 PM, I was too tired to move. On the up side, I can't believe how much more energy I have, just from pushing my limits, being well hydrated, getting some sleep, and having fun. I am giving myself a virtual pat on the back for surviving it. LOL.
This weekend we are in Sacramento for our son's wedding. We just got back from the big dinner with the family and wedding party, and the wedding is tomorrow evening at 6:00. Ray will escort his mother down the aisle (she's 91) and then come back for me. I can't believe how excited I am. We love his bride, Rebecca, and her family.
I won't be online again until Sunday night, so I hope you all have a blessed weekend. xo

Keeping you and all those in the hurricane paths in my prayers. My Uncle lives on the coast in GA and has moved inland.
Keep safe.
