Thanks Everyone,No seizures for the last 2 days so they are over. I am thankful they only happen about 2 times a year. Now I need to get my appetite back . It did my heart good to watch the Olympic trials this weekend ,all those young people striving to be the best they can be and showing the sportsmanship to prop up those that did not make it. We live in the best Country in the World we need to appreciate it. Hugs Lola

Nice to meet you Jo-Anne. Getting started on losing weight or anything is one step at a time . The first step is always hardest. I need to get back to walking but it is just too hot in Mississippi to walk right now. Hope you are enjoying the books.

Dear group,Hello Hello Hello!! I have missed you!!! Internet at my Mom's house was not working so I couldn't get online to see how y'all were or check in. We had a wonderful time. Heather only got sick twice while there. She had one seizure and defibrillator shock and one bout of GI distress. We went to 4 fireworks parties/family get togethers. We went to the lake twice and went boating, kayaking, jet skiing, tubing, had a couple bonfires. We had a couple movie nights with the whole immediate family.. my sister Joni and her family, and my two brothers and their families and my parents. We had game day 2 days where we all got together and played card and board games as well as went to the pool and then played corn hole tournament. I was able to see a couple of my aunts. My one Aunt, Cynthia and her husband John came to see us. She just got the news that she is cancer free after surgery and 15 rounds of chemo. My uncle has MS and is doing well. We got to hold my baby nephew Lane. He is a sweetheart. The girls and I went one evening to my 29 year class reunion. 12 out of the 17 people from my graduation class was able to make it. We had a wonderful time. It was great seeing everyone again. Most I hadnt seen since the day we graduated. I took lots of pictures and can share some with yall if you'd be interested. Love you all.

Jina, Lovely to hear your news, so pleased you all had a wonderful time.
Wow, Jina! I'm so excited for you! It sounds like just what the doctor ordered -- family, friends, picnics, movies...just what summer is made for. It's great to hear from you - and feel free to share your pictures!!

Wow, ladies -- I've been seriously MIA and I apologize. I don't know where the time goes - summer is halfway over already!
In the past two weeks I've been swamped with clinic work - against nearly impossible deadlines; my website crashed (hard!); and I've gotten behind in reading, reviewing, writing, blogging, housework...the list goes on and on.
Thank you for your patience - I'm taking the weekend to regroup and, having met the nearly impossible deadline, I will hammer away at my to-do list.
I hope you are all well. Please check in when you can and let us know how you're spending your summer, what you're reading, and what you're looking forward to as the summer rolls on!

Paula,
Time just goes faster I think. I am getting ready for the adjunct classes again. School for K-12 starts August 2 here. Community College where I teach starts for students August 15. Paula, I am behind in reviewing because things keep happening so maybe it is just that way right now. I miss school starting after Labor day.
Hope your project got finished and everything went well. Sometimes my list has lists until I start over. Hope things let you start writing as well as reviewing. I am glad that we are taking our time reading our current 3 in 1 book.
Hello, all.
Like everyone else, the summer has been crazy for me. I'm behind on my book (so what else is new) and I'm peddling furiously to get ready for my road trip--headed to Colorado next week (by myself!) to research my glamping book, due 11/1 and out next summer. August and September are full of traveling. I need to be 100 pages farther along than what I am. Sigh. I'm seriously overwhelmed.
In the meantime, I haven't forgotten you guys. Praying for a little peace for us all!

Thank you for checking in Emily. I've heard it is incredibly hot in Texas. I trust you are staying close to the AC. lol. We are the only cool place in the nation, here in tne Pacific Northwest. It reached 79 here today and people are complaining it is too hot.lol. Just goes to show human nature is to never be satisfied with what you have at any given time. I pray you have great inspiration in your writing and a safe and enjoyable journey to Colorado.
Peace be with you.
Linda Manthey
Hello everyone.Big excitement at the Manthey house! We got our first egg from our hens yesterday! lol. Dave was so excited he said he felt like a proud Papa. lol We got two more today. They vary in size and color. Both are brown eggs, one is just a deeper brown.
I have killed just about all of my plants, so it is good to know the hens are thriving. lol. I still have two tomato plants and one pepper plant out front. I want to believe the puppy had something to do with the ones in the back yard, but that may be wishful thinking. lol.
I hope you all are well and staying out of the terrible heat covering most of the nation. We have been quite fortunate in that the weather here has stayed mild. People here get cranky when the temperature elevates above the 80 degree mark. lol.
Take care everyone.
Peace be with you.

I didn't know what glamping was Emily so did an internet search. It sounds right up my alley.I love the outdoors and am going to explore more. Once I passed 50 years the decision was
made that my tent camping days were over ;) !
Hi All,It has been Hot even here. Yesterday was the only day when we didn't turn on the ac. Linda I wish we lived closer, my Daughter says I have 2 green thumbs and if I planted a toothbrush dental floss would grow out of it lol. My garden is doing great , my corn is in silks, I hope we get big sweet ears.
Jina I am so happy you got to see your Family I know you were missing them ! I talked to my Brother Dave, the one who has cancer, he is doing so much better, and has even gained some weight, he has always been too skinny. He was going every 3 months for his treatments ,but the last test was so good they moved him to every 6 months. I was so glad to hear that. I can't wait for my trip back home next year.
Emily I remember all too well what summers are like in Texas, ours were the worst in Houston because of the humidity. Hope our Rocky Mt. weather is better for you and that you have a safe productive trip, because I want more books ;)
Peace be with you all! Hugs Lola

Lola,
So glad to hear that your brother, Dave is doing well enough for the time between treatments to be made longer. Glad that your garden is doing well. Right now day is bringing more cherry tomatoes than we all can eat so if my Mom comes to see anyone, they get a baggie full of cherry tomatoes.
Have a good day.

Congratulations to you and Dave on the hens laying eggs. Linda, do not give up on gardening. I do well with non flowering plants except for African violets. I manage not to hurt my Mom's Christmas and Easter cactus when she and Dad go away for a week or two. I forgot how many hens do you have? Have a good day.

Melinda, we have seven hens. My mom says that eventually they each should lay one egg a day. That's a lot of eggs. I will have to share with friends and neighbors.
They are so fun to watch. They really are characters. We have six bardrock (black and white spotted, and one Red Sexlink (we call her red, we can't tell the others apart yet).
Hope all is well in your little corner of the world.
Peace be with you.

Lola, I had a Great Aunt who could grow things like that. We would be driving down the road and she would pull over to the side of the road, break off a piece of something, and plant it in her garden at home. She could grow anything. I remember as a kid going to her house and canning all the wonderful bounty from her garden. Great memories.
Glad to know your garden is doing well. Do you can your food or do you freeze them? I prefer canning but it is a lot of work. If you lose power or your freezer goes out your canned good will survive. I know a cool dark storage place is important though.
One day I will figure it out. I need more free time to put into it though. Life is just too busy right now.
I have to get to bed now. Six am comes way too soon.
Take care. I will keep your brother in my prayers.
Hugs and prayers,
Linda Manthey
Hi Linda,I do both , I can a lot but somethings are just better frozen, like squash. My Hubby likes his squash fried, so I make up a big batch and lay them out on cookie sheets and freeze, then lay flat in my vac. sealer bags, then vac. seal. They fry up great. We have 4 hens and we do get 4 eggs a day ,when any of our neighbors run out of eggs they just bring back the carton we gave them and swap it for a full one lol.
Thanks for all the good thought for my Brother,he is one of the sweetest people you will ever meet, even when we were young.
Hugs Lola
Hi All,I know we do not talk politics here, for which I am very thankful. BUT, It doesn't matter if you are for her or against her , History was made tonight ! I personally am not offended, I agree, the glass ceiling is really cracked. We currently have our second woman Prime Minister here in the UK, but the only problem with women in power is that they unfortunately have to prove themselves twice as much as men to prove they are worthy of the position. Hello, everyone -- I'm back from the almost-dead (not literally, but I would have crossed over to feel better...)
I was hit with the kind of food poisoning that sends you to the ER for fluids and drugs. It's been years since I've been so ill -- at least 20 years, if my brain is working properly. Knocked me offline for a couple of days, and today I'm still walking around in a dizzy little fog.
And, naturally, it's 108 outside and the county is doing "rolling blackouts" to reduce the load on the power grid...I revived that great Southern tradition and went to bed until the a/c came back on...
I've just caught up with the news and see we are all still running around like Linda's chickens - but I hope you are all well and gearing up for fall.
We have one more book to read in Family Secrets - so jump in with an update when you have time; and if you're behind, don't worry about it! There are no rules here except to be kind & respectful to each other. Take care, I'll check in this weekend.

Hi Paula,Hope you are all better! We had a big storm come thru and knocked out our power, and you know it would be the only time we have no wind here, and the flying vampires are swarming . So I can sympathize. Hugs Lola
Sounds terrible, Paula. I hope you feel back to yourself, with energy and the ability to eat, very soon!
Hello, friends!
I'm finally back to relative normal, after a few "ups and downs" - thank you, everyone! It's still incredibly hot here and I'm honestly ready for fall -- while the mornings here are cool, things warm up quickly and it doesn't get comfortable until after 9 at night, so I feel like a hermit at the moment. I'm back to working on my book, but thanks to a plot twist my characters hit me with a week or so ago, I'm back at the plot board figuring out how to adjust the story to make it work. Someday I'll write about what I THOUGHT it was going to be like to write my first fiction book, and what it is ACTUALLY like....in the meantime, I'll just be grateful my muse is still on speaking terms with me.
Take care & chat soon!

Pleased to hear you are feeling better. The book will all be worth it when you type 'The End' on the last page. We could do with a bit more sun & a little less rain & dull skys here. Take care.
Thanks, Lesley! I spent today organizing all the random plot notes I've accumulated "on the road" (it seems my muse only speaks when I'm out of the house...) - Ray is on call this weekend, it's going to be hot, and if I can talk myself out of doing a Supernatural DVD binge, I plan to do nothing but read and write!
Take care.

Hello Group,I hope everyone is happy and healthy and doing well. It's the time of year where "Back to school" is on our minds and in stores everywhere. I happened to go to Wal-Mart the other day and noticed that besides notebooks, pens and pencils and all varieties if school supplies, there is sadly already Halloween stuff out. I cant figure out "why the rush?" It wont be long until Christmas stuff is in stores. They seem to skip over Thanksgiving which is one of my favorite holidays because of the meaning and purpose behind it. The "being thankful and recognizing all our blessings" is the most touching of holidays. Don't get me wrong. I love Christmas and my family bakes a cake every December 25 for Jesus birthday. But sadly the commercialism and heariing more about people wanting to receive more than they celebrate Jesus or give of themselves to those less fortunate. It has a tendency to make me sad and irritared and wanting Christmas stuff to be overwith. Do you know what I mean? Does anyone else feel that the holiday is exploited so businesses can capitalize on peoples spending for others without regard or recognition of Jesus?
Sorry I didn't mean to get on a soapbox today. I have missed y'all. I have been very busy. Our house was vandalized, Sam had a car accident (she's ok thank God), Heather has to have 3 oral surgeries and a heart surgery is scheduled for August 30th. After she recovers from that is when they will schedule the oral surgeries. Sarah Faith has to have a thigh muscle biopsy done at Duke Hospital. They are looking at Sarah's mitochondria. Duke genetics found that 16% of Sarahs mitochondria in her blood is bad. The blood is a diluted specimen so they need a more concrete number and testing the muscle tissue from her thigh will answer the Doctors questions.
So given all that I haven't had a chance to read much and I have missed it so much. I am tired though so I dont know how much I would actually accomplish right now. However, I have made a book to be read soon list for when I get back to reading like normal.
I hope all of you are well and enjoying summer.
Love you,
Jina
Jina,You have been busy. Hope it did not take much to fix the house from being vandalized, You have been busy with the girl's. I will put Heather on the prayer list with my Sunday School class which are a wonderful group of prayer warriors for her heart surgery. I agree about Christmas. we are trying to ignore the commercial side. We are making homemade gifts. We will watch old Christmas shows. When I lived in Maryland and we had a lot of family over, we had a birthday cake for Jesus.
You are amazing. I know from watching my Mom with her health issues and mine own that you have to keep going but you can get worn down. Jina, please make sure that you get some down time to recharge so you stay well.
Mom was in the hospital two weeks ago and she came home with a virus which I also got. SO take care of the girls but take care of your self. In time, you will get back to reading Jina. It is hard to believe that it is August. the k-12 students are back in school as of last week. the college where I teach 2 classes starts August 15. Summer went fast for me. Did it go fast for the rest of you?

Oh my goodness Jina,
I have been absent for a while and did't know about your trials. I pray all will be well soon for everyone.
Life has been a little crazy for all of us I think. Two of my boys have started a work training program at the Goodwill. I am so thankful for that. They have had no goals to speak of since graduating high school. Samuel has a disability with his feet. He was born flat footed and we had poor health care when he was younger. We did not know what the problem was until it had already caused his feet to grow abnormally. At this point he needs to have both feet completely rebuilt and he can not stand or walk for a long amount of time. Joseph is just incredibly shy. I know how he feels because I was the same way, but he has not been able to overcome it as I did. This will be a good experience for them both. Sam is concentrating on computer skills and Joseph is learning basic retail skills.
I agree that the holidays seem to be rushed by retail establishments. I have worked in retail drug my whole life and it has really progressed to a disturbing extent.
The problem is that the corporate end of the retail business is only focused on the dollar and not the season. They are already shipping fall merchandise and will soon be shipping Christmas. They send of specific dates to have the section set and the district mangers check to make sure the goals are met. We have to have Halloween set by the end of the week. Christmas will be set by the end of September. What is really annoying is that buy the time the ads start running we will be out of most of the items listed and have to deal with customer complaints because they have just received the ad and it is already gone with no way for us to order more. We get one shipment on most holiday items. It is crazy and frustrating but there is nothing the store workers can do about it . People get upset and want us to pass it along to whomever the powers that be are, but we have no contact or say so in the issue. It is all managed by a bunch of corporate people in an office somewhere in Pennsylvania. Our company has been sold to Walgreen's so it is only getting bigger and less personal.
I am researching ways to earn a living outside of retail.
The crime rate has gotten so bad in the area where I work it is getting scary. I am so glad we moved away from there. Now if I could only not have to go to work there.
There is a heroine epidemic in that city and it has all of the pitfalls that come with that type of life. Theft, prostitution, homelessness, and mental health issues. It is so sad to see young people so lost and messed up. It breaks my heart. There are older folks as well, but the young ones just make me sad. You look in their eyes and see no hope, just emptiness. Lord have mercy.
I am researching proofreading. I am wondering if that would be a good job for me. I don't know if you need special training. I hope I can do online classes to get into it. It could at least be an additional source of income until I find out if it is a good fit. Hopefully I would be able to cut down the amount of time I have to go into the city to work and supplement our income from home.
Sorry to be so negative today. I am going to force my self the find positive things to do today and bring you happy thoughts with my next post.
I hope you all are well and I will keep those of you who need it in my prayers.
Peace be with you all
Linda Manthey
Hi All,Dear Jina, I am so sorry for Sam's accident ,glad she is ok . Do you know who vandalized your home? Tell the girls they are in my prayers and Heart! As Melinda said you need to take care of yourself too !!!!
I have been busy with the garden, man the weeds are growing faster than I can keep up with them. I am redoing my flowerbeds , Wolf & I went to a creek and brought back a load of river rocks and I am putting them around the flowerbeds ,when I am finished I will post some photos. I took the red scallop concrete edging stones I had around one flowerbed in the front and put them around the outside of my greenhouse. One side hardly get any sun so I am thinking of putting a Fairy Village there.
I got a phone call from my best friend in high school ,we haven't seen or spoken to each other since 1968 !!!!! She knew from my Mom that I married Wolf and moved to Austin . Then she saw that I was a friend on my nieces facebook page and ask if she would give her my phone number . She is going to Idaho in Sept. ,we are going to try to meet some where . What fun to see Mary after all these years.
Hugs Lola
Don't even get me started on the over commercialization of Christmas !!! For years Wolf always laughed and said they are making Christmas like April the 3rd , like any other day , then we were watching a show on the History Channel about Jesus and they said they figured that Jesus was really born on April the 3rd, we nearly fell out of our seats ! Hugs Lola
Lola wrote: "Don't even get me started on the over commercialization of Christmas !!! For years Wolf always laughed and said they are making Christmas like April the 3rd , like any other day , then we were watc..."Hey Lola,
April 3rd has always been a special day for me, it's my Daddy's birthday. How amazing that it is my Heavenly Father's as well. Maybe we should just celebrate it Christmas in April and take back the holiday for Christians. Since every group on the face of the earth wants to complain about Christian symbols being displayed at Christmas time, maybe we could then celebrate the birth of our Lord Jesus Christ with out protests and complaining.
Just my 2 cents worth. Rant over, lol
Hope you have a wonderful day.

Linda,
Sometimes you just need to think out loud or in this case type so you can figure things out. Glad that the boys are getting some training. I understand about the city. Baltimore became that way. I see the changes here in Mississippi as well. Look into proofreading. I do not know anything about it. If you can find a job that you can do online it will save you travel time and the cost. When I get negative, I try to remember that no matter what GOD wins in the end. As long as I wake up in the morning, God has a mission that I need to do. When it gets really bad, I remember the students that actually changed their lives against
the odds.
You are important and touch a lot of lives, you never know the good that you do.
We are all blessed no matter how bad things seem so take a walk , garden a little or whatever relaxes you. Laugh a little.
Thanks for sharing and smile Linda as you are among friends who care.

Lola,
What a nice surprise. Hope it works out. Love to see a picture with the river rock when you get it done.
It sounds as if everyone has been busy for many reasons. We are suppose to get heavy rain starting tonight so I imagine some reading time for a few days. Community college that I am adjunct at starts Monday, August 15 so busy getting ready for teach class. Hope you all have a chance to relax this evening.

Thank you Melinda,
I appreciate your encouraging words. I am searching and researching ideas right now. I think I need to stop and seek and receive guidance from the Lord and let Him lead me in the right direction. Sometimes we get so set on finding the answer to a problem that we forget the all knowing and all seeing power of our Lord. Thank you for the reminder to slow down and seek Him. He knows the future and He will show me the way.
Have a blessed day.

Dear Linda,
Your situation sounds eerily similar to one of my best friends. Her name is Angelia and she had lived in Nebraska for awhile. Our oldest daughters went to school together before we both moved to different states. Anyway... she has done it all, wrote and was the editor of our small towns newspaper, worked in retail, did Avon and Mary Kay for awhile. Finally she went to college and graduated with a degree in Healthcare Management. But jobs were hard to find in Mississippi just like everywhere else. She is now working from home and loves it for the most part. She works for Teletech. They need people in all 50 states. I know she does mostly technical and customer support but she says it pays well and she doesn't have wear and tear on a vehicle or have to purchase uniforms or work clothes which is a benefit of sorts. I think they even offer her insurance. You could check into it and see if its available in your area. If it works out maybe even your boys could do it too. Its just an idea. I hope things look up for you soon. Take care and stay safe.

Dear Lola,
All your descriptions of your gardens sound beautiful and creative. I would LOVE to see pictures. What a wonderful idea about the Fairy Village! If you have a Pinterest account there are some beautiful designs and ideas on there that I know you'd love.

Dear Melinda,
What a wonderful post and you said just the right thing. Even though you were saying it to Linda, it helped me so much on this trying day. Sometimes for every step forward I feel like I am truding through mud or going backwards. Lol So thank you for your wisdom and pointing out God has a plan in this too. I so enjoy the caring people in this group. We are so like minded and care about each other as if we are family so thank you for the blessing of your friendship and wisdom.
Love,
Jina

Dear Linda,
I just remembered something I read the other day. I am a member of Big Fish Games and the kids and I play different games when we have time. Anyway, they are looking for beta-testers and reviewers for their games. I like to play the hidden object and building/strategy games, my kids like the time management, match 3, and puzzles games. If you or the boys like gaming you could look into that too.
I'll keep my ears and eyes open for any opportunity that you might like and pass it on to you.
Love,
Jina

So sorry to hear about the sad/bad things happening in the USA, hope it soon settles down.
Nice to meet you Jo.
Hope Lola & Paula are recovering from your seziures/fall.
Family update: We visited our son Mark over the weekend & are feeling a little happier now we have seen him. We also managed to see our other son John who had made a 'flying' visit to see him as well. Mark didn't look too bad but he is very frustrated waiting for his pancreas to recover enough from the Pancretitus for them to start treating the cancer. My sister started her second round of Chemo last Thursday & seems to have tolerated it better this time round but she had to have a blood transfusion on Saturday. Will check in again soon.
