Good morning! Paula, I was trying to use the Goodreads app on my phone and get to the end of the thread to read the newest posts. It wasn't letting me.

Thinking of you all as you fight through trying times and wishing all of us a peaceful, joyful summer!

Thank you Emily. I pray you are safe from all the bad weather conditions that have been talking place in Texas. I have family there and thank God none have been affected by the storms.
I wish you a glorious summer and many happy memories.

Hi group! If anyone has a strong opinion about our next read, let me know today or early tomorrow! I'd like to post our next two choices this weekend and start our read on Monday, for those who want to join in!

If you don't have a strong preference I'll flip a coin!

My pleasure! It's fun to read together. I'm inclined toward the 3-story collaboration this time around. It's something different for us.

Hmmm...my post disappeared.

I added that the stories in FAMILY SECRETS aren't related to one another. They are my MY BIG OLD TEXAS HEARTACHE, the first book of one of Christina's trilogies, and the first book of Nic's Royal Scandal series. It's three books for the price of one and we did it to cross-market.

Christina and Nic are in my plot group and are a big part of Eternity Springs.

message 1259: by [deleted user] (new)

Drumroll, please! To shake things up - since there were no strong feelings either way on our next book choice, it's Family Secrets - by Christina Dodd and Nichole Burnham. Three books for the price of one - three immensely talented authors.

https://www.amazon.com/Family-Secrets...

$5.99 on Kindle - probably available on other sites as well. If you find another site at a different price, please post it.

I'll add it to our discussion threads today and do some other updates as well.

I'm looking forward to reading with you again. I've missed it.

message 1260: by [deleted user] (new)

Hello and again - I apologize for being MIA a couple of days. I had a big project due for the clinic, followed (and not unexpectedly) by a migraine the size of Emily's big old Texas heartache....and it took me until now to get back up to speed. I hope you all have a safe, healthy, happy summer weekend.

Jina Gibbs | 763 comments Dear group,
I look forward to hearing from all of you again and discussing books and whats going on with everyone. I've missed y'all!
Paula, sorry about the migraine. I know how those can be since the women in my family suffer from them once each girl hits puberty. I think some of them are tied to hormone levels or something since it hits all the girls, my moms sisters (there is 8 of them), my sister and I and now my girls and my niece, between the ages of 12-14. It gets so bad that each of us has been to the ER and had to have antinausea medications and torodol (sp) plus 600+ of caffeine injections. I know some home remedies and some recipes to help with migraines and will email them to you tomorrow. You can also try Rooibos tea. It helps a lot of maladies.
Take care and look forward to catching up with all of you soon,
Jina

Lola | 1001 comments Dear Linda ,
OUCH!!!! It reminded me of when Wolf and I went camping a few years ago , we have a tent that fits in the back of his truck. I was climbing out one morning and there was a bunch of boulders behind the truck, well it had gotten dewy my foot hit the boulder and it was slick an I went face first into them, I was black and blue all over , nothing broken but my pride lol. We stopped for a latte ,and the server kept looking at me then giving Wolf the skunk eye, until I explained lol.I hope you heal as fast as I did ! Hugs and Mommy kisses to make it better , Lola

Oh, Linda! I'm so sorry! The last time I tried even walking in my garden after the rain, I slipped and dislocated my finger...which is still hideously deformed today. I am an absolute klutz. Ice that bruise and rock that new look! You can always tell people you're on a roller derby team.

Lola | 1001 comments OMG What is happening in our world ???????????????? I feel so sorry for all the families in Orlando. I have 2 nieces and 1 nephew that are gay, it is not something they wanted but what they were born with, I knew before they did that this was going to be their path in life. This is not something you can change ,no matter what people think. Sad Hugs Lola

message 1267: by [deleted user] (new)

Lola, I am as stunned and outraged as you are. I have dear friends who are gay, and my favorite cousin is, too. They are God's children, our sisters and brothers. It's not a lifestyle, or a choice: it's who they were born to be. Crimes committed "in the name of God" are some of the most brutal and senseless of all. This is a call for people of faith to put aside their ignorance and bias and stand together.

Respect
I respect all beings as unique expressions of God.

Tuesday, June 14, 2016

A tree has branches in all shapes and sizes. Each branch, while different, is an expression of the tree, just as all life is an expression of God. All life is God, expressing and manifesting in the physical world.

I feel a deep sense of admiration and high regard for the unique expressions of life all around me. I show respect to my fellow human beings, animals, and the environment by treating them with love—just as I desire to be treated. I, too, am a manifestation of the Divine and understand the importance of treating myself with love and care. I show respect for my life and all others, for we are all unique expressions of God.

Yet for us there is one God, the Father, from whom are all things and for whom we exist, and one Lord, Jesus Christ, through whom are all things and through whom we exist.—1 Corinthians 8:6

That sounds delicious, Lola! I can't believe it's Friday already. This was a wild work week, with deadlines and meetings out the wazoo. We are celebrating Father's Day today, because Ray has to work Saturday night and Sunday...(meaning I get to READ and write a bit myself!). I'll bake something for Sunday - which should surprise him, since I almost never spend a day baking anymore!

I hope you are all well and enjoying whatever you have planned for the weekend. To any of our Florida members, I know this has been a terrible week for you, and I hope you have a very peaceful and re-energizing weekend ahead.

Hugs to all.

Jina Gibbs | 763 comments Dear Group,
Lesley, I know you and your family are going through some rough days now and we have been praying very hard here for you and yours for strength and healing.
I have an odd feeling that more of you in this group are in crisis and I have missed it or its happening and we are needing to boost yall up. I'm here if you need anything. Thinking of y'all always.
I do have news of my own. Heathers pacemaker/defibrillator is running low on battery so it is in battery and voltage reserve mode. She is paced 78-99% of the time and she has been shocked out of a heart attack rhythm nearly 70 times since January of 2013. Her device was supposed to last 5 to 7 years and it wont even last 4. They arent usually used as much as she needs to use the device. We did have some good news, this last interrogation of her device (over a months time) her heart was in a bad rhythm 14 times and her heart was able to reset itself to a more normal pace on its own without being shocked. Which means her heart is getting a little stronger as is her brain is getting stronger because the brain also has a part in tell the body parts what to do. This is encouraging news even though her cardiologist reminds me that her heart will never be well and is still very sick but she is stronger right now than she has ever been since her original attack. God is great!!! Prayer works!!! I have more news but her highness needs her night meds and to go pee so I will chat later. Love to all.

Hi Lola!! :)
I had similar trouble with Goodreads and then for about a week couldnt even log in. It was very weird. It was like the site was down or something because it would take me to the log in page, I would click on log in with Facebook and the circle thingy would go round and round and then the page would go white and ask me to retry or reload page. Very weird and frustrating.
Love you!

Thank you everyone for your prayers, I am slowly getting my head round what is happening to us as a family but I think today may be a littlr tough as we have to go and tell my brother and his family about Mark & Judy as theyhave just returned from a family holiday in Italy. Hello everyone --

For a variety of reasons, all valid, our group read is going a bit slower than we expected, and engagement is especially low. For that reason, I'm going to leave the timeframe open for finishing each book, to give everyone a chance to catch up as they can. Summer is very busy and although we all talk about "great summer reads" it can be hard to set aside time with so many other pressures -- at least until vacation! I hope you are all well. Please contact me if you have any feedback that might increase engagement or interest in the current book selections. Thank you.

I just have been busy with trying to get things caught up . My mom has been sick not really bad just no voice and very tired and now a tooth that has to be pulled. I like the book selection. Just running out of hours in the day. I hope to catch up on my reading this weekend. I think everyone just has had life issues jump them in the last 6 months. I will try to post on the books in the next two or three days.

Lola | 1001 comments Hi All,

Do you'll believe that tomorrow will be one year since our first message appeared on Quick Updates from the Moderators. I just noticed when it took me to the first message from Paula. lol Another first I went on my first ATV ride with Wolf, we went up into the Elkhorn Mts. in front of our home. It was a blast and the views are so beautiful ,reminds we what a fantastic area we live in. There were old abandoned mining towns ,one had a brick outhouse ,a brick shitter as Wolf calls it lol. All these old cabins and a two story Brothel reminded me of the Chicken Ranch " The best little Whore House in Texas" ! And so many wild flowers. It was a fun morning.

Hope everyone has a fun happy 4th , be careful with the fireworks. Wolf and I are going to go watch the fireworks in Townsend. I am BBQing a brisket , with potato salad ,wish I had my own potatoes ,they are up , no potatoes yet but I do have fresh green onions and eggs and pickles from last years crop. My corn is knee high by the forth of July ! I hope it is as good as the one crop I had.
Have fun be careful Hugs Lola

Lesley | 669 comments Hi, just a quick update, I visited my sister Judy today for the fisrt time since she told me of her diagnosis & I was pleasantly surprised she looks a lot better than I thought she might & she thinks the Chemo might be doing some good already as she is not having to take additional pain meds in addition to her slow release ones. Mark is home from hospital with his infection under control so the next step is on Wednesday when he finds out this treatment. Hi patrner sent us a phot yesterday & apart from the weight loss he also doesn't look as bad as we thought he might. His brother is going to see him on Friday & we are going at the weekend & I shall be able to give him a big hug as I did my sister today. Have a Happy 4th everyone.

I have been praying for Dallas and all of the people who were injured and the families of those who were killed. God bless your city and our Nation. I just don't understand all this violence. Hello, friends --- Wow, what a week it's been. I know we are all feeling the burden of pain that's affecting the U.S. and the world - we are bombarded with so much hatred, violence, and deep, deep misunderstanding; broken systems, and angry, disillusioned people. We have heartbreak in our own lives as well. I feel so blessed to have this community to share our ups and downs, and to surround ourselves with unconditional acceptance. To be able to read and share beautiful stories that help us escape from an often overwhelming reality.

I hope you all have a safe, blessed, peaceful weekend. Ray is on call, I'm at home, reading and writing. I'm loving the story of Megan and Stefano - I need to escape to their beautiful fantasy and be ready to talk about what made us all swoon in this story! I have to admit, I slowed down because I saw heartbreak ahead - but I'll pull up my big girl pants and hope for that HEA.

On a personal note, I missed checking in for a couple of days...to give you a laugh, I'll now confess that I tripped, backwards, over a half-chewed pig hoof that Willow was hiding. I landed flat on my back, in a most spectacular fashion. I swear I heard the cats laugh. In any event, I banged my head - hard - and spent the next 24 hours in bed with a seriously ugly headache. I couldn't read for a couple of days - I'm fairly sure I concussed myself. But it's all better now...until I fall down again. LOL.

Laters, ladies!
Paula

Sorry I couldn't help myself, after all the tension of the last week it felt good! And only because you are better. This is one of the times I am thankful to live out in the boonies . And got the protest bug out in the 70's and Viet Nam. I have been having seizures the last couple of days so I have been out of it, better so far today. Hugs Lola

message 1294: by [deleted user] (new)

Oh, Lola - you made me laugh out loud with the twinkle toes analogy. It's more like crinkle-toes at my age - especially since I've broken EVERY SINGLE ONE of my toes at one time or another, some more than once.

Note to selves -- if we ever meet up, keep our distance. The two of us could be a danger to ourselves and others.

Lola,
I am so sorry you are having these seziures. I am praying for you to be free of them.
I too have been so upset about the things happening in and around our nation. I have been made more aware of all our Police do for us on a daily basis without any recognition. Sure there are some bad apples, there are in every profession, and they need to be held responsible for their actions. But we have to stop and think about the ratio of good verses bad and realize there are far more good than bad.
I posted an article on my facebook page I received from a friend about an officer in Oklahoma who had a lady come up to his vehicle and ask to pray for him. He was so touched. If we could all just treat each other respect and view our neighbors and fellow citizens through eyes of love and compassion, we could stop this flow of hate that is sweeping our country. I really want to be that person. Dear God have mercy and help us to see others through you eyes of love. And heal our nation before it is too late.

I'm getting emotional so I will sign off.
Take care
Love and hugs
Linda Manthey

I'm Jo-Anne or Jo or Jo Jo the other names are not polite LOL.
I realized I never posted anything. I hope everyone is well and if you are writing, I hope that goes smoothly. I haven't written a word in months. I have fibro and a really bad back. but hey that is life and if I want to have one I need to move and lose some weight. I stopped smoking a year ago. My husband and I moved to NC six years ago from the snow belt. I grew up in the Bronx, one maybe two bad storms.47 my two year cat Zoe says 47. I was so happy to get out of NY. My husband was a NYS Correction Officer. Just have to work 25 years he did 26, retirement.
Its terrible what is happening and I can understand a cop being afraid at a traffic stop. they can get killed doing that. But they hear gun and then they shoot. I dont remember any of this stuff going on when I was growing up. School shootings mass shooters though I didnt pay attention to the news as a kid. I was never afraid in the Bronx. Things are getting worse and its up to us vote for the right people. Like your sheriff or community leaders. forget about the President. One is a so called raciest and the other is not well liked but knows what she is doing. So we vote for who we think will do the better job.
Hope you all have a great Sunday and a good week.
