Hi again...Jina, there is an opportunity for authors to acknowledge anyone or anything that inspired them. It's Avery personal choice though. I think it's good that PTSD is being explored, in all of its manifestations. To some extent, the hero in my first book is led down the road he's on by the effects of PTSD. There is something to be learned from every journey. And if there's a story in you that needs to be written, someone will need to read it. It just may bless them in a way they didn't expect.

Dear Jina,
If you go on Google and put in Townsend Mt. There is a site( townsendmt.com) that shows you a lot of photos of our town and the area around us. If Heather likes history with romance and getting the feeling of what it was like here in the 1800's , my favorites are the Mail-Order- Brides of the West written by Caroline Fyffe & Debra Holland each of them write about different girls that come from a Mail order bride agency in St. Louis. And each author has another series set in Wild West Montana Caroline's is,The McCutcheon Family and Debra The Montana Sky series. They are really interesting and make you think about what all the people went thru to back then.

Hi Jina, Please tell Heather that Miss Lesley, lives in the County of Lincolnshire, UK which is the same country but not the same County where 'Calendar Girls' was filmed. That was filmed in the County of Yorkshire.

Lesley | 669 comments Hi All, Has anyone been watching the Invictus Games which were held in Florida this week. Those Ex-Forces personnel are so inspiring and there has been quiet a lot of conversation about the 'hidden' wounds such as PTSD and brain damage. I also watched a two-part programme where Gareth Malone, Choir Master, put together an 'Invictus' Choir of various 'injured' personnel to perform at the Invictus Games Opening Ceromony. It showed how the involvement in music & singing can greatly help many types of trauma victioms. The members of the choir helped to write the song they sang & hopefully it is going to be released on CD to help generate for the funds the Invictus Games.

Gosh, I tried to post earlier but the site was unavailable. I'm glad they got it fixed.
Heather's project sounds like fun. I found a couple of sites to help her out. marysvillewa.gov and Wikipedia has a page on Marysville, WA. I hope she has fun researching all the different places. I have always loved history. Marysville borders the Tulalip Indian Reservation.
There is a lot of historical information about the Tulalip tribes on the internet. The Hibulb Cultural Center has a web site with a lot of information as well.
If you want me to send any type of brochures or literature let me know and I will get it off to her.
Hope you all are doing well. I have been working all kinds of crazy hours. One of the ladies at work is out for surgery and I am covering her hours. She is a good friend of mine. We have worked together for 12 years. I took her flowers this morning and she seems to be doing well.
I have not been reading much lately. I seem to just fall into bed when I get home. We are down to one car again and I have been riding the bus. They are working on the interstate here in Marysville and it has taken up to an hour and a half to get home. It is only 13 miles to my work place. It's just exhausting sitting in traffic when the air conditioner is not working and everyone around you is complaining like the bus driver could do something about it. lol Thank heavens it should be finished soon. I will try to be better about checking in.
Give all the girls a hug for me and take care of yourself.

Jina,
This is the link for Harrisburg,Ms It is where I live but I live on the edge in West Harrisburg http://www.hattiesburg.org
I live close to Purvis ,MS which reminds me of where I grew up in MD. I think it is neat that on my birthday April24 Purvis was flatten by a tornado in 1908 . Here is a link for Purvis: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Purvis,...
We go to the Gulf Coast and stay down there once in awhile. I grew up being close to water. We stay in Gulfport sometimes
http://www.gulfport-ms.gov/

When I have more time, I will get sites for where I grew up and lived for 40 years. Tell Heather that she would love watching our backyard. The birds have been very active, We have two birdbaths which the birds use at the same time. It is a show. We have three rabbits that are wild that are eating under the bird feeders where Dad throws corn. Glad to hear that Heather likes history since that is my favorite.

Thank you Melinda for your kind thoughts. The Durango is totaled. We will just have to make the best of it until we can afford another car. We did not have full insurance coverage on it because it is older. The gal that hit my husband was impaired and had a suspended license on top of it being a rental car that someone else had rented. It is a mess. My husband wants to take them to small claims court but I'm sure they have no resources and it would just be a waste of more of our money. It is what it is and life will go on. The bus isn't so bad usually. When the construction on the bridge is finished it will be a more pleasant ride.
God is good and He will make things right in His time. With all I have been through in my lifetime, this is just a bump in the road.
God bless you,
Have a wonderful day.

Thank you Lola. I'm glad to have you for a friend. It is good to have a positive outlook on life, it makes the tough time much easier to get through. Life is too short to spend it concerned about things you can not control. I guess the Serenity Prayers sums it all up.
Changing the subject, I planted some tomatoes in my garden. I got heirloom plants. I have one brandywine, a stripey boy, an Indigo Rose, and an early girl. I am so looking forward to seeing them produce fruit. I watched my aunt and mom can tomatoes when I was a girl but I don't remember if you have to pressure seal them or not. I would like to get a pressure canner and put up some of my garden but I don't know if it will happen this year. My garden is mostly in pots and Dave is going to make me a small raised bed tomorrow. He said we can increase the size next year. Too much going on this year. He is finishing the chicken coop tomorrow. The chickens are so big now they really need to be in a larger area. I will try to post some photos if I can figure out how. lol. Peace be with you my friend. Hugs , Linda Manthey

Lola | 1001 comments Hi Linda,

I glad to have you too Friend.

I freeze and can tomatoes every year, you can, can tomatoes without a pressure canner, you just need to add Citric Acid or lemon juice. If you are new to canning go to Balls web site they have all kinds of info, and make sure you buy wide mouth canning jars , they are so much easier to fill, I have a funnel made for them. I make most of my tomatoes into red sauce(with garlic ,onions, Italian spices and some with chopped bell peppers) then freeze it. And when I make red sauce with meatballs I make extra meatballs and freeze them in a separate bag, then when you are in a hurry you have dinner, I use my vacuum sealer . I put the freezer bags in a large container , I use the qt. cartons my iced coffee comes in , then ladle the sauce in leaving enough bag to seal it. Then freeze, take it out of the carton and seal. Hope this helps. Hugs ,Lola

I am curious about the Indigo Rose. I bought them because a lady came through my line with one and said they are really sweet. I had never heard of a black tomato. It rained buckets here yesterday, I hope they survive. All I can do is say a prayer and hope for the best lol. You surely can not predict what the weather will be this time of year. My coloring book arrived yesterday. I have to delay gratification because we were away yesterday and today I have to work on some clinic projects to get ready for the week.

I hope you all have a restful Sunday with time to reflect and relax. And that you are spared the worst of the spring weather. xo

I'm jealous of everyone's tomatoes. Nothing is better than home grown tomatoes. As much as I love our city/weekday/country/weekend lifestyle, it simply makes gardening a bigger challenge than I can manage. I grow herbs at the lake, but I don't think I could manage tomatoes.

Dear Emily,
One of the things I look forward to most is summertime home grown tomatoes. My Mom has a garden but she also container gardens the cherry tomatoes and herbs and has grown brandywine tomatoes in a rubbermaid tote on her deck. That might be the way to go for tomatoes at the lake. And for watering, you could put one of those sticks that automatically water as needed. In a container you wouldnt have to worry about weeding. But I would also put up a plastic owl with reflective eyes to keep the squirrels and birds and other critters away from the "free meal".
I hope you had a fabulous weekend. I was down for the count this weekend. My back is killing me. I think it is my kidney since its hard to go to the bathroom and I feel like an elephant stomped on my side just below my ribcage. This too shall pass. I know from my last checkup that my GFR is around 54%. It also helps me have time to read. So thats a bonus.
Sincerely,
Jina

Hi Jina -- and everyone else, too!

Jina - I hope you're feeling better. I've got a mountain of clinic work heading my way this week, because next week I'm going to Virginia to visit my daughter and her family, and honor mom - at last - in a private memorial that I'm trying to organize between projects.

I've barely had time to read, other than a few books I'd signed up to review, and right now, even that feels like it's just a bit too much. I think I'm going to have to cut back on blogging and social media, and even postpone writing some of these reviews while I deal with these intense personal issues. I've already started to turn down new reviews, other than by my very favorite authors (like my top 5) -- but I'm still facing a backlog that I may never dig myself out of. Under normal circumstances, it's a nice problem to have. I love reading so much - but right now, everything feels like it's clawing for my attention.

Tomorrow I have a long day -- we are having a county-wide emergency drill that I'm involved in, and it's a full day of work out of town. If I don't check in - thanks for your patience. I'll be back!

I got my ES coloring book and left my Amazon review. I just love it! I think I'm going to take it with me to Virginia and show it to Layla. She is just learning to color. I may let her christen my book!

Love you ladies...

Dear Paula,
I was wondering if it would help you to "delegate" some of your reviewiing to some other people. For instance I've noticed a few members of this group already write reviews. Maybe you could have a few people under you that you could pass off a review opportunity to. Therefore the reviews are getting done AND you arent so backlogged that you cant write your own book or do the things you need to do. I know I would sign up to be a reviewer for you. I wouldn't want any payment at all, I would do it for you and with the benefits of reading new books and helping you have more time to spend doing other things (and this group :) )
Have a great trip, I hope this can give you peace and a sense of closure when you attend the memorial you are getting together. We are here for you if you need to talk. Maybe start a post about "remembering family" where we can tell stories or get support when someone needs to share. It can be funny stories or someplace to talk about whats on your mind on that day regarding the family member you miss or are thinkibg of. We have all lost people and certain days are harder than others. But this group is special and has a way of brightening another persons day when we need to. Its just a thought. Dont work too hard Paula, youll burn yourself out.
We love you,
Jina and the girls

People keep asking me what I am reading now. I come from a family that highly values books. We consider the written word priceless and precious so its no wonder that I usually have 5 to 8 books I am reading at any one time. I have books by my chair, bed, couch, in both cars, in my purse and in Heathers room for when I am sitting with her either at night or when she lays down for a nap. I finished "Wish bound" by J.C. Nelson, Sherryl Woods The Devaney Brothers Ryan &Sean, Fern Michaels "Point Blank", Victoria Laurie "Ghouls Guide to Love and Murder", Janet Chapman "Charmed by his Love" and Lacey Baker "Summer Moon". I am reading about 8 books now but those listed I finished. I have to give Heather her meds and get her in bed. I will finish this post when I get back.

I am seeing RED this morning!! Are some people just born dumb or born without common sense , two DUMB A--es in Yellowstone put a baby bison in the car and took it to a ranger station because they thought it was cold !What did they think the bison do in the middle of winter there where it is well below zero much of the time. These beautiful animals have survived thousands of years no thanks to Humans who almost killed them off. And thanks to them they had to kill the baby because the herd will not take back a bison who smells of humans .They tried 5 times to put it back with herd but they wouldn't take it. When you enter the park they give you all kinds of info, mainly that these are wild animals , it is not a petting zoo or a refuge it is the wild ! Thanks for letting me vent ! Hugs Lola
P.S. Did you know The Bison was Named America's First National Mammal just 6 days ago?

Dear Lola, I too am seeing RED about that poor calf.
I seen that story about the bison calf first thing this morning and I near about cried. They are beautiful creatures and dont have the vast numbers they used to. It was wrong of the people to intervene without thinking of the consequences to the animal. They couldve googled a local authorities number and reported the issue without touching the little one. If they had done that the proper people could've handled it and maybe found a zoo or animal control place which could've found the baby if orphaned a temporary home or a animal rescue permanent home. I am sure the people thought they were "saving" a calf and their heart was in the right place however I bet now that they have found out what happened, they are probably heart broken and wish it had turned out differently. I watch a lot of animal planet and on all of the shows you notice one thing... they just observe and dont intervene. Sometimes watching those shows I end up calling names at the tv. For instance there was one show where a pod of killer whales was harrassing a mother and baby humpback whale. They separated the baby from the mama and ended up killing the baby. I was hollaring "leave the baby alone you jerk!" and told the tv to quit beung a big bully. But you notice that the cameraman and biologists dont interfere. Sometimes I wish they would in the case of endangered animals. Here in North Carolina we have loggerhead turtle beaches where the turtles nest and lay their clutch in the dunes. The biologists try to protect the area where the nests are by posting signs and putting picket fences around the beach. They also go out in groups when the babies hatch and scare away predators so the little ones can reach the water.
My heart goes out to all animals. Hopefully by this story getting so much media attention it will teach and guide people to the proper way to be in the parks and observe the precious creatures and how and who to report a situation to without touching the animal.
Love you my little spit fire friend, :)
Jina

You are so thoughtful! Thank you. I've thought about delegating reviews - and I will definitely consider it. I know I'm at risk of burning out, and I've begun to take some steps to slow things down so I can get my head above water. The trip to Virginia and the memorial for my mother is the next big step in being able to move forward after being stuck in a state of numbness and confusion for months now. I am seeing a new counselor who's convinced me that what I'm feeling is perfectly normal - and how I'm responding is to be expected, since I'm someone who tends to keep everything in...for too long. I sense that I'm ready for a change in the way I approach things, and it's about time. One thing I have to learn to do, without guilt, is say no to things that aren't feeding my soul or aren't directly related to my life's 'purpose'. Of course, I can't say no to things that help pay the bills...so there's always going to be an element of job-related chaos because, God love him, my boss is not an organized person. He's a crisis manager - in other words, he only manages in crisis mode. Misses deadlines. Forgets or misplaces things. And he's content to live that way....to the detriment of those who are supposed to help him out....!!

But enough about that -- I thank you all so much for everything you do to support the group and help me muddle through such things! Hugs to all...

The county-wide emergency drill was quite the learning experience. I've never hung out with HAM radio operators before and I was fascinated by how they communicate. I learned the phonetic alphabet and had a lot of fun making up stuff to confuse my husband last night over dinner. That being said, it was exhausting. We simulated a mass communications outage and a simultaneous mass casualty incident involving an 18-wheeler loaded with toxic chemicals hitting a bus full of senior citizens. It was quite realistic, and overwhelming to contemplate - but the drill went well. Today I have to do a lot of follow-up. And I'm planning the memorial tribute to mom for next week - Thursday morning. It's a bit hard to do from here, so I'll finish most of it in Virginia.

I will be 'off the grid' a lot next week, dealing with family matters. But I will be with you in spirit and keeping up as best I can when I can check in online.

Ladies -- people are among the dumbest of animals when it comes to dealing with animals, although I imagine those who "rescued" the calf thought they were doing the right thing...it's a shame, and it made me so sad. Seeing those animals in the wild is such a gift. We used to snowmobile in Yellowstone National Park, and once were stopped for quite a while as a mother bison nursed her baby on the trail. It was one of the most beautiful things I've ever seen. I've also seen a mother with a newborn Humpback whale and another with a newborn Orca. You can't help but feel blessed to see these beautiful creatures and realize that we are all part of the same nurturing circle of life. I hope that calf finds a place to live a full and happy life, if he can't be reunited with the herd. And I hope the people whose misguided efforts were at fault have learned a valuable lesson - nature takes care of its own, most of the time, without our interference.

Dear Paula,
They ended up euthanizing the baby bison after 5 efforts to return it to the herd failed. What we all hope is learned by this is to "let nature protect their own". Its sad and hard sometimes to let "nature take its own course" and to do nothing when what we really want to do is to "save them all". My sister Joni reminds me all the time that Gods in control and all things happen in His own time and His own way.
Is there anything "we" can do to make the Memorial easier for you. I think I speak for all of us when I say I would love to send flowers or if "in leu of flowers send donations to (whatever cause or thing you and your mother would want"). I can't imagine your pain as I am fortunate enough to still have my parents living. I'm sure whatever you are feeling and however you are dealing is perfectly normal. They say that there is 5 stages of grief, I think its more than 5. We are here for you.
The crisis exercise sounds like it would get anyones adrenaline going. I am so glad they do training exercises to prepare for the unthinkable. There has been many tragedies happen where the people and services were scrambling and failed to be effective. I think there should be "town hall" meetings for the general public that informs them of what to do if encountering certain natural disasters, shootings, terrorists, amber alerts, wildfires, etc...
Here we have a week where you can go to Lowes and get a hurricane preparedness kit and information pamphlet. It came in handy 5 years ago after a hurricane went through and we were without power and stuck at our own house for a week because of the flooding and not able to get to a store etc...
Take care of yourself Miss Paula, everyone is thinking of you and praying you'll feel better soon.
Love you,
Jina and the girls.

Linda (lindamanthey) | 413 comments Sorry I have been absent from the group. I worked overtime getting ready for a visit from corporate big wigs that never happened. Nothing new, but better safe than sorry.
On my way home from the bus stop on Tuesday I stumbled on something on the sidewalk and fell. I injured the same foot that I broke my ankle two years ago. I went to my doctor yesterday and it is not broken, just severly sprained. Me and my two left feet. lol I have slept most of the day as I did not sleep a good deal last night. I just could not find a position that was comfortable. They put what they called a soft cast on it. Some kind of anti inflammatory bandage (covered with sticky goo) covered that with gauze and then purple coban. Thankfully they said it would most likely be removed next week but I can't get it wet. I live in a freakin rain forrest and I am not supposed to get it wet. lol. I can't find my boot from my last adventure so I guess I will have to get a new one or I can not work.
ANYWAY. That is what's new on my little corner of ther world.

Melinda, I pray all is well with you and your family.

Jina I pray you are feeling better and that all the girls are doing well. I think Eleanor Roosevelt was an awesome woman.

Lola I cried when I heard what happened with that poor baby bison. Ignorance often leads to tragedy. So Sad. And I did not send the rain, I promise. lol

Paula My prayers are with you as you travel this journey of life and pay tribute to your dear mother. I know she will be watching from the portals of heaven with love. It will be good for you to share this time with your family. There is no right way to grieve a loss. It is an individual response and you must follow your heart in the best way to meet your own needs.
God is with you and He has promised to comfort us and give us HIS peace. It will come and all will be well with your soul by God's grace. May you know that peace and be blessed with the Joy of the Lord in the place of sorrow. You are a child of God and He cares for you. He will see you through this I know He will.

Love and hugs to all of you.
And may God's peace be with you all.

Thank you Lesley. I have done nothing but rest the past two days. I am scheduled to work tomorrow, so I hope my foot is better by then. I still have trouble walking on it, but time will tell.
Hope all is well in your little corner of the world.
Take care.

Linda,
I am praying for a quick recovery for your foot. we are as well as can be. As long as everyone gets up in the morning, we feel that we are blessed. Things are up in the air about a lot including my adjunct instructor job. Enrollment is down and a lot of changes are taking place. I know that GOD is in control ,I just do not trust as much as I should so working on getting the heart to accept what the head knows.
We have had rain here but the humidity is bad. I was born and raised in Maryland and the humidity would be 100% and 99 or 100 degrees which is my reference for bad. Mississippi thinks 70 % humidity is bad but right now It is about 70% humidity and 79 degrees and is so close you can almost feel the water in the air.
It is getting better s the temp. goes up.
Hope you get a break in the rain.

Lola | 1001 comments Hi Melinda,

I remember when we lived in Houston , the humidity was so bad there that you would walk outside and before you could get to your car your hair would go flat and your make-up would be running along with the little riverlets coming down from your bra from the sweat . None of that here lol! The last few days here the sweaters have come back out. I want some sun please! Hugs Lola
