Thanks for your sweet message! The heater finally started working again at 7PM the night before Thanksgiving....something else to be extremely thankful for.

And for some reason, as inconvenient as it is, standing under warm running water tends to allow my mind to wander to creative places. You're also right about the commute -- sometimes I get my best storyline and dialogue ideas in the car, also a bit inconvenient but fun!

Hope you had a wonderful Thanksgiving with your family!

message 553: by [deleted user] (new)

Hello, everyone!! I really enjoyed reading your messages today. I went MIA yesterday, since it was Ray's only day off in 14 days. His next day off is next Friday. He has worked so many hours, trying to make some extra money to buy a car - but also helping his fellow nurse anesthetists - that we've had precious few moments together.

Yesterday was nearly perfect in every way. We watched Despicable Me 2, and Hotel Transylvania, took in a couple of NFL games on TV, went to visit some friends for an hour or so -- and spatchcocked the turkey!! And by some miracle, we totally nailed the Thanksgiving dinner. Nothing burned, nothing set on fire, everything just right. Then, after cleaning up the incredible mess we made, we completely crashed.

So it's back to reality today. I do not shop on Black Friday. I plan to work a bit around the house, take care of some email "to-dos" and write a bit on my novel.

You are all amazing women - I am so honored to know you, call you friends, and read your inspiring posts. I thought of you yesterday and how thankful I am that Emily's books brought us together.

I'll post the updated group details as soon as I can. Love you all!

I too am sorry ,it seems many of us have lost a four leg baby in the last year. The only thing that gave me any help years ago when we had to put down our sweet Saint Barnard Trudy was she was no longer in pain. Hold on to that.
Hugs to you and your Hubby, Lola

Oh, Brandi -- I'm so, so sorry. I cried for you - because you did the right thing to spare your pup from the inevitable decline and suffering - but the grief never gets any easier. We've been through this four times in the last 10 years - but, ultimately, the love we receive from our pets leaves an imprint on our heart that overcomes the sorrow of loss. God be with you both and give you comfort.

Brandi, I am so sorry for the loss of your Lab. It is heart wrenching to make such a decision. We had to do the same thing a few years ago with our beloved dog. She was 12 years old and had cancer in her nasal cavity and arthritis so bad she could hardly walk at times. I will pray for God to comfort you and your husband. We came to the decision as a family that to keep her alive longer with treatment would just be selfish on our part and she had been so faithful to us we had to let her go.

Dear Brandi,
I am so sorry for the loss of your lab. They are such devoted sweet dogs. I had 3 labs as a child, Smokey, Pup, and Bear. Dogs were a necessity on the farm but such wonderful companions to us kids. When I went jogging to practice for track, my dogs would go with me. When I went to the school bus they walked me to it, and when they heard the bus coming they greeted me as I came off the bus. Smokey saved me from a wild german shepherd that wandered through our farmyard and came across me when I was a long ways away from the house. The dog went to attack me and Smokey fought it while I ran screaming to the house, Dad got his gun and came out. He fired a shot in the air first but they kept fighting so Dad shot the German Shepherd in the thigh. He and my oldest brother took both dogs in separate trucks to the vet. Smokey was pretty tore up. They put the Sheperd down because it was too mean and biting at every person and animal and they were worried it might be sick but as far as I know it wasn't rabid. We got Smokey back after a few days. Dogs are truly a blessing.
I would love to here some stories of your labs antics.
Hugs to you,
Jina

Jina Gibbs | 763 comments Dear Friends,
I wanted to tell you that you guys soooo totally ROCK !!!!!. I had told you about Kelly's Mama. She squeezed Kelly's hand Thursday, she opened her eyes Friday. They have her on dialysis. She was able to tell Kelly that she loved and missed her. She isnt out of the woods but they were able to take her off the machines and ventilator since she was breathing on her own and doing so well. She will still have to have some of her toes amputated due to necrosis. They dont know yet if shd will lose her nose. But at least she will live. Thsnk you do much gor all your prayers. I was brokenhearted for Kelly when she flew out there because the doctors said she had to make the decision whether to keep her on life support or not. No 16 year old should have to make that decision. Thank you for another miracle.
Sincerely yours,
Jina

Lola | 1001 comments YEAH !!!! I love good news!
Dear Jina, That is great news ! I pray for a peaceful recovery!

Dear Linda M., I didn't know you lived so close well, just a 1 state away . We loved going to Vancouver Island before you had to have a passport, always took the Ferry out of Seattle. My Daughter has many friends in Washington State. So Happy to hear you will be "Home for Christmas!" Funny story about when we bought our home here, this was during a house shortage in Montana. We had to leave the house we were renting because it was sold. We couldn't find anything to buy, so we moved into a friends cabin .Way up in the Mountains ,a dirt road from hell and no bathroom only an out house. No runny water had to truck it in. We were there for 4 month thank goodness it was in the Summer and it had beautiful views. When we found our home we moved in the night we closed ,slept on the floor ,I didn't care I wanted a toilet and running hot water! Two days after we moved in we had a snow storm in Aug. If we had been in the cabin would have been stuck in the cabin with no way out for over 3 days!

Wow, you guys -- I missed a day and a half and things are rocking in here! I had to work out of town yesterday, expected to get back early, didn't make it until 8:00 PM, exhausted.

Woke up today and my website was down - creating all sorts of havoc in my life. I'll be back later to introduce our next reading project!! Hang in there, my friends.

Hello friends --- The best laid plans all go to heck when the boss calls in a panic, which is what happened to me yesterday afternoon. Turns out that he nearly missed a deadline for a federal grant - something that small rural health clinics depend on for their survival. I've spent the day helping pull together the submission package for Phase 1 of the grant, and then, when I got home, I crashed. It's a long commute and I was up much too early...!

Anyway - I'm going to have to juggle the job for a few weeks, because Phase 2 is intense, and we have another government-required report that is due by the 14th. My life as a stay-at-home consultant and telecommuter has evolved into a series of road trips - temporarily.

I am home all day Thursday - there's a winter storm heading our way overnight -- so I will get our next group read set up and ready to roll out. Watch for a new announcement, and in the meantime, check out a few new topics under the Holidays tab!

Hope you are all well, safe, and warm. My heart goes out to the people of San Bernadino tonight as the news continues to unfold.

Paula

Hi - it's me again -- and wow, has life gotten ahead of me in the last few days. I am going to have to push back our launch date on the next read a bit while I regroup - we have family coming this weekend, and Ray is having some surgery early next week. While I'm home helping him, I will have time to focus on getting our reading back on track --- at the same time, knowing how busy this time of year can be for all of us, I realize that we will all be flying in different directions until we can settle down with our beloved books again. Please know that I am committed to moving forward - things are just moving faster than I am right now. Hugs to all.

I'll be offline until sometime on Monday - most likely - because of all the family commitments. I will be thinking of you and wishing you all the best - please check in and let us know how you are getting along!

Paula

Hi everyone -- I'm seated in the Surgery waiting room - Ray's procedure started at 8:13 a.m. Pacific Time. It's not a lengthy procedure, but I'm rather a nervous wreck. I brought my laptop with me to keep my mind occupied but my concentration isn't all that great.

I'm going to be a nurse again for the next few days -- he tends to try to overdo things (and he makes a TERRIBLE patient on so many levels...!).

I hope to spend some time tomorrow setting up for our next group read, and I apologize for the delay. Life recently took some unexpected turns...which shouldn't surprise any of us, right?

Please let me know how you are when you can. It's such a busy time of year, harder to keep in touch -- but I love reading your news!

Take care...
Paula

Brandi (poohfanatik) | 117 comments Just hanging in here. Too much bad stuff going on. -One of my school friends lost her Grandma on Sunday
-a friend of my hubby - his wife just lost her best friend who was diagnosed with something that was going to take her in about 2 months or so but she only lasted 48 hours after the diagnosis
-My aunt on my mom's side was diagnosed with emphysema and a spot of cancer on her lung. She was a long time smoker who gave it up when my mom got cancer of her voice box, We will know more next week but they don't think that she will be able to survive any surgery with the emphysema.

In a time where we are suppose to have joy, it seems like a lot of grief is going around.

I look at my son and see the good things of the season and my joy. We are going to see a friend get married this weekend and next weekend we are going to look at our new puppy and see which one it will be. Lots seem to be going on!

message 572: by [deleted user] (new)

Wow, Brandi - you're right. I don't know if it's the time of year that makes things stand out more, or if there truly are more shocks during the holidays -- but I feel for you. I applaud you for looking around for the joy. Our son & his fiancée are coming back this weekend for a visit, Ray just finished surgery and he did just fine, and just looking at the Christmas tree makes me feel at peace.

Ray and I lost a friend very suddenly over the weekend. I'm going to write something about him to explain what I learned from his friendship.

That's all of our news for now.

Thank you, Leslie -- Ray has done quite well today, it's keeping him from doing stupid stuff and overdoing everything that is making me a bit --- um....frazzled. I have done so much running around that by the time I finish cooking supper (chili tonight), I'm not good for much of anything else.

I should also mention that Ray is an extrovert and hates being alone. He's used to being active every minute of the day until he crashes from fatigue. Being cooped up and having to stay still is not his strong suit - neither is silence while I work at my laptop. It's a constant "look at this!" or "I forgot to tell you..." - and I'm grateful that he's healthy enough to do that. I just thought maybe if he'd take a nap like normal people recovering from general anesthesia and taking pain pills he would be -- subdued? -- for long enough to get my work done.

I think someone spiked his pain pills with caffeine. Or meth...(just joking).

Lola, you are too funny. My husband and I both introverts. Neither one of us are big talkers and we both speak with quite voices. His hearing has become impaired slightly as he has worked at Boeing and mine is not what it used to be so we find ourselves asking what did you say? It really is quite comical if you think about it. I guess it is good we both enjoy alone time because a few years from now we may be unaware when the conversation has stopped if we lose attention span. lol. I have always spoken softly and I find it hard to project my voice naturally. Oh well, I guess we are equally matched. Our children on the other hand are the complete opposite. I guess they feel the need to break the silence. lol.

So cute! We have only had a few boy puppies , my favorite name of those was Bilbo Baggins. I think Sadie will be my last puppy. She is now 10 months old, puppies just need too much energy. At 67 I don't think I want to go thru it again. She is now almost out of those ,not to scare you, but stupid puppy months.

You all gave me some great laughs this evening after a very long week and a good but busy, busy pre-holiday weekend!

Ray actually got quiet yesterday -- all day -- and I worried about him. I was afraid he was hiding a complication of his surgery, or pain, or something else because he NEVER gets quiet! And...the last time he WAS, it was because his appendix was ready to rupture. Today he actually apologized for being so quiet. So funny ... women truly don't know what we want, do we?

This was the weekend we celebrated our son's engagement - and I've cooked, cleaned, hosted, shopped and been a domestic goddess since Friday. I'm exhausted, but it was wonderful to spend time with family.

Brandi - I'm so happy for you and the puppy! The most popular dog name in the country used to be Max - I'm guessing that men name dogs more often than women do...? My daughter's pup is called Indie Jones. He's hilarious. Our only male dog was named Auxey - that had been an abbreviated show name -- his actual pedigree name was so long, French, and had so many consonants we didn't even try to say it.

I, too, want to send Christmas cards and I have some addresses, but may not have them all. Please send them to me via my gmail account: passionatepromos@gmail.com!

Where is this season going? Two weeks until Christmas!! I'm about to drown in to-do's!

The results were hilarious! I am lucky that my husband helps, but there is always more for me to do!

Dear Brandi,
I am so so sorry. I will be praying for Rachel and her family for a while. I cant imagine the pain she must be feeling right now. Something similar happened to my Aunt and my cousin and we(our whole family, aunts uncles cousins etc...) light a candle in honor of them at family events. Its our way of remembering them and including them, even though they couldn't be in our life we will always love them and our belief is we will meet them when we get to Heaven. It gives us comfort. You are a good friend.

Hello, everyone -- I've been called in to work double-time to help one of our clinics meet a grant application deadline, and it's going to take at least two days to get it finished, so I will be checking in, but later than ever, I'm afraid.

Ray is still recovering from surgery, and although he's doing well overall, he's still exhausted and uncomfortable.

Please note I'm not complaining - I'm blessed to have a job again AND to have Ray recovering so well. Just letting you know because I feel guilty when I can't get back to you right away.

Hello, ladies - and thanks for all of your kind and thoughtful comments. I've done two 12-hour work days in a row and I think I'm too old for that. I have to go back tomorrow for one more round, then I'm off until Monday. Next week will be a slow week with everyone gearing up for that last holiday push, and I hope to sleep through some of it, to be honest! LOL.

I'd like to suggest we start our next read the Monday after the New Year begins...with Book 1 in the Callahan Brothers Series. Please let me know if you don't have a copy of the book ... maybe Santa can pay an extra visit to your place! I can't wait to start that series...love me some Callahan boys!

Everyone take care, you are ALL in my prayers and I am grateful for you every single day. All social media sites are blocked at the clinic so I am going through withdrawal!

I'll check in tomorrow evening!
