Jina Gibbs | 763 comments Dear Group,
This is the timeline of whats happened and the police and school response.
Veterans Day: Met Alice 17 yr fellow ROTC student and her Mom Cindy before the girls went to the Veterans Day parade. After the parade Cindy, Alice and Sarah and several other students and adults volunteered to serve the veterans at Golden Corral.
Friday: Sarah stayed overnight at Alices until next morning when dropped off at school at 8 am for Drivers Ed.
Saturday: Cindy and Alice stopped by wanting Sarah to spend another night. I said no and they left.
Tuesday:North Pitt High school called me at 1:27 and said that Cindy Godley was trying to take Sarah from school. (Talked to secretary later and she said that when she wasn't allowed to leave with Sarah she pushed to try to get Sarah called to the office so she could "love on her for a while, she don't get enough lovin'")
Also on Tuesday, the daughter, Alice falsely reported to a teacher that Sarah was "cutting" herself. Sarah got called to the office and was looked over by the nurse and counselor and I was called AGAIN. They told me they found no evidence of "cutting" but had to follow up on all reports.
Then that same day around 5pm the whole Godley family Mr Rick, his wife Cindy and Alice showed up at our house. They walked right in. I was cooking in the kitchen. Sam came up to me and told me I needed to get into the dining room with Sarah. I went in and found the Godleys surrounding Sarah, whispering and hugging on her. I said "What are you doing here? Sarah, are you ok? What's going on?" Sarah looked like a scared rabbit, I grabbed Sarahs hand and tried to pull her away from them but they werent letting her go. I told them to let go of my daughter. Luckily, my husband, Michael, came home right then. He saw and asked "What the Hell is going on?" I told him all the events of the day. He told the Godleys "Listen up, I dont care if you're a man or woman, if either one of you try to take my daughter again I will beat you within an inch of your life. Be no mistaken I mean what I say". They had the balls to say that they thought since we had Heather with all her health issues we didnt have time or love to give to Sarah that they did and that they were going to take her to live in the mountains. They said they love her so much and that they are "good Christian folk". They tried to grab Sarah again to hug her and I said "You really need to let her go and leave my house now!" As they were leaving they yelled to Sarah that when she's 18 she can choose where she'll live no matter what.
Wednesday at 7:30 am Mr Rick Godley texts Sarah "Good Morning Beautiful" followed by "let us know if you're alone. We will come over". They had her cell phone number from Veterans Day. We had to take Sarah to her pediatrician so Sarah could be looked over for proof that she wasnt "cutting". So Sarah lost a fullday of school because of Alice's false accusations.
Thursday: I drive Sarah to and from school now so Sarah wont have to see Alice on the bus. When I am in the office Thursday afternoon to pick up Sarah. Miss Johnson tells me that students have been reporting that Alice is telling students and some teachers that "Sarah will be her sister soon and their going to live in the mountains". I told her what happened at our house and that we are talking to the police because we consider it that Sarah is being stalked by this family. Miss Johnson said she would help get the message to the counselor that Sarah shouldnt go anywhere alone and always have a "buddy" with her. Sarah told me when driving home that Alice will poke her arm or come up behind her to hug her and then pinch her. I told Sarah I think she is trying to make bruises so she can make a report of abuse so it will look like I am hurting her. I told her that if Alice tries to touch her again she needs to say loud enough so other hear "quit poking and pinching me! You are leaving bruises! If you touch me again I am going to the Principal". Hopefully she will have witnesses or someone to help keep Alice away.
Friday- Sarah was still receiving texts from Mr Godley. Alice is still telling everyone "Sarah will be her sister soon".
We filed a report with the Sheriff they talked to the Magistrate and got back to us yesterday. We had to officially notify the Godleys to cease all contact with Sarah or legal action would be brought against them. Now we wait. If they contact Sarah or try anything else we can press charges.
Thats the update. Thank you for your prayers.
Sincerely Yours,
Jina

Hello, friends. I missed you yesterday - I started my pre-holiday cleaning spree and it was relentless. I was on a roll. Today I'm so far behind in posting that I'm paying for taking a day off - but the house is starting to look like it did before I started writing a book...

...and hopefully I won't be embarrassed the next time a service guy comes to make a house call.

Oh Jina,
You have had such a time with these people. How can they call themselves Christian and behave in such a manner. They sound more like someone from a cult of some sort. Their behavior is really twisted. I have been praying God's protection over your family ever since I heard the news of this event. Lord have mercy, I don't know what else to say. I hope the police will take action if they don't comply with the court order. They must really be off the deep end if they think they can just come in and take someones child from them. I have my prayer warriors on this and God will stop them if the authorites can not. My heart just aches for you to go through this agony. I am so glad we have the Lord to lead and guide us at times such as this. What do people do who have no faith? I am so thankful for God's grace and mercy and his abiding love for us. Hold on honey, there may be evil in this world, but God is greater than anything and you can take refuge in Him.
This is my favorite scripture,
Psalm 46
God the Refuge of His People.
For the choir director. A Psalm of the sons of Korah, set to Alamoth. A Song.

46 God is our refuge and strength,
A very present help in trouble.
2 Therefore we will not fear, though the earth should change
And though the mountains slip into the heart of the sea;
3 Though its waters roar and foam,
Though the mountains quake at its swelling pride. Selah.
4 There is a river whose streams make glad the city of God,
The holy dwelling places of the Most High.
5 God is in the midst of her, she will not be moved;
God will help her when morning dawns.
6 The nations made an uproar, the kingdoms tottered;
He raised His voice, the earth melted.
7 The Lord of hosts is with us;
The God of Jacob is our stronghold. Selah.
8 Come, behold the works of the Lord,
Who has wrought desolations in the earth.
9 He makes wars to cease to the end of the earth;
He breaks the bow and cuts the spear in two;
He burns the chariots with fire.
10 “Be still and know that I am God;
I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth.”
11 The Lord of hosts is with us;
The God of Jacob is our stronghold. Selah

Every time I read this I am touched by the verse that says He raised His voice and the Earth melted. What an awesome power to speak and have command of all things. And He called us friends, His children, His Bride... He loves us and has promised to protect us and guide us and I know He will.

I remind myself to "Be Still" and know God is in control whenever I am overwhelmed with any situation. It helps me to have courage and peace of mind to carry on and do what I need to do. You are a strong woman of God and He will keep His promises to you and your family.
My prayers continue to be with you daily.
Peace be with you,your friend
Linda Manthey

Seriously, this is the kind of thing you read about but think it could never happen to you. Definitely has cult written all over it. I hope their number has been blocked from Sarah's cell phone or that she's gotten a new number - anything to keep them from being in contact in any way. I am praying that there will be a swift and decisive resolution to this situation.

Jina Gibbs | 763 comments Dear Friends,
The police are looking into the families background to see if there is history of this kind of behavior. The police dont want us to change Sarahs number yet. IF they contact her again, the Magistrate can proceed with legal action against them plus, with our friends and family having her current number, its a better chance for help if something happens. If we change the number and forget to tell our circle of contacts, they might not pick up if they dont recognize the number. The police did tell us that the family has over 10+ previous charges but couldn't go into detail yet whether they were traffic offenses or sexual predator offenses etc... The Sargeant we spoke to agrees with all of you, that this sounds like cult behavior and dangerous behavior at that considering that they only met Sarah a little over a week ago and they are bold enough to go to the school to try to get her and come to our house and aggressively try to take her.
Sarah is freaked out. She is also mad, she tried to be kind to her classmate and Alice pays the kindness back by lying about "cutting" and everything else that family has put us through. Heather is very protective of Sarah and when the Godleys were here Tuesday trying to take Sarah before Michael came home, Heather came out of the bathroom and she had her fists balled up. She hollered in her way "Leave my sister alone!" (After they were gone we had to give Heather a dose of Atarax since she couldn't settle down.) Sam, God bless her, my level headed darlin, she started documenting the whole day in writing. Everything that happened, what was said and done and so when we would talk to the police it would be all wrote down and nothing would be left out. I dont know if it's a man thing but my husband Michael is scared and freaked out by it. He doesn't like any threat to the girls so when he gets scared he gets ticked off. We have our rifles locked and loaded and close by just in case. We have 2 baseball bats close by, Little Bit roams freely at night this last week soshe can alert us if she hears anything. And Michael and I have been sleeping in the living room this week. We haven't had much sleep but we needed to be nearer the girls and able to hear the whole house.
Thank you for your support and prayers. Please keep them coming until this all blows over or gets resolved.
Hugs to all of you,
Jina

Dear Kay,
According to the Magistrate, the police couldnt do anything until we had given them written verified notification to "cease contact with Sarah or legal action will be brought against you." Now any contact they try is in violation of that notice and the police can proceed. Before we had verbally told them several times but that falls into a "he said, she said" thats difficult to prove. We will see how things go tomorrow for Sarah at school especially after I tell the Principal that the Sheriff's office is now involved and bring him up to date on what's going on. Hopefully they will keep her safe at school.
I am so sorry that it seems like I always post crappy posts. I will try to be more uplifting like Linda, and post things to make y'all smile and laugh like Lola, Kay and Paula. You all are a hoot and such wonderful people. I promise to be a better poster from now on. :)

Dear Paula,
Thank you for your concern and advice. Yes we do have emergency plans in place. After they left that Tuesday, I called "the boys". Toothpick is a truck driver/biker who works with Michael, Pegleg is a dear friend and biker, Lyn is a biker and member of BACA Bikers Against Child Abuss and a dear friend, and Spongebob another trucker/biker friend. I told them whats happening and where these people live in case Sarah turns up missing thats the first place I will look, and I wont go alone. They will have my back. If Sarah wasnt there, then they would pass the word via the trucker radio and put out a BOLO "be on the look out" and they would call all biker friends they each know to pass the word that Sarah is missing. Then since they were talking about how much fun they would have with Sarah at "Dollywood", I would call my cousin who serves in the Army in Paducah Kentucky and see if there is anything the service could do to help me find her. Of course there is the amber alert. Plus Sarah and I are going to a local tae kwon do place tomorrow and ask about self defense courses. The sargeant we talked to said that I could pick up a can of pepper spray for Sarah at his office on Monday and he also has a necklace whistle to give her and a couple pamphlets for her to study. I am afraid thats the best Ive got done so far.
Thanks for your advice and support.
Sincerely Yours,
Jina

"The best you can do" Is all anyone can do. You are a good mother and you love your children with a love that is beyond measure and comprehension to people like this. You have a good strong relationship with the girls and have instilled in them a good foundation of what constitutes right and wrong, moral and immoral. Please do not think less of yourself because you do not have control of this situation at all times. Only God can possibly do that. You have taken all the precautions you know and put a plan into place. I would call that very diligent and proactive.
Jina, you can only do so much. The rest is in God's hands. You can trust Him to guide you in the right direction and keep you and your family safe. We will continue to lift you up in prayer and intercede for you and your loved ones. If this is a cult, it is not from God, and they are not acting out of Christian faith, no matter what they say. Psalm 27 may be very helpful to you about now.
We are all here for you. NEVER feel bad about sharing your burdens with us, how else would we know you need prayer.
Peace be with you my friend, Linda Manthey

Jina Gibbs | 763 comments Dear group,
I was thinking yesterday when I went out to pick up a prescription for Heather. I went by myself which is rare but I wanted some alone time. Before we had talked about secret Santa. Well I had an idea, in the pharmacy they had a stand of funky seasonal soft socks. Some people do the ugly Christmas sweater parties. We could have an ugly or funky sock swap for the secret Santa. Its just an idea and the socks dont cost much. I dont know about you about I have to keep my feet warm. If my feet get cold, I'm useless. Lol.
Anyway, hugs to all,

Brandi (poohfanatik) | 117 comments Jina,

Is there an app that you can put on Sarah's phone that she could push if for some god forbid reason she needs too. I had seen something on my facebook that was wearable and would call the police if pushed but can't find it now. I will keep a look out for it. Also, I would have Sarah tell the councilor at school that Allison is poking and pinching her. Everything you can document the better. If it goes further, you then have that as back up as to what they were trying to do.

If it was my kid, I don't think I would handle it very good either. This is just so scary. I will keep this in my prayers that you get a resolution soon.

It amazes me how people hide behind their religion saying they are doing what is best for everyone and it is so far from the truth. In their mind, I am sure they think it is best.

I hope this doesn't escalate to they trying to take her but it seems that they are trying to get her taken away from you so that they could maybe swoop in as a foster care family. Ugh!!! My mind just spins with this! I will definitely be here and post anything up on Facebook should the worst happen. That should cover some of the midwest/great lakes area.

A few updates and one very crazy idea...get ready.

First, the personal updates - I was MIA yesterday because I got a new consulting contract from a local clinic that is going to help pay the bills and hopefully get Ray the deposit he needs to finally get a car. Unfortunately, in rural Mendocino County, "local" is kind of a relative term - the clinic is a 1-hour commute north, in the foothills, where it snows. It's hard for me to work in a job that requires some travel without my own car, and Ray's had to use mine since April. Everyt i me we get a few dollars ahead something breaks.

Speaking of which - our heater died last night and it's so cold in my house my fingers are numb. It's hard to work at the computer. I'm waiting on the repair man - but I'm betting the unit is going to have to be replaced. Hence the need for the extra job...again... *sigh*

Now - to the funny stuff. It's almost time to start moving on to another Emily March book to keep our group going - and this weekend I'll put the plans in high gear, posting another update about the logistics. In the meantime, I was thinking that if we have to "relocate" our group - to change the name - we need something catchy that might attract other Emily March/Eternity Springs fans to join us.

Don't laugh. OK - go ahead if you need to. But this morning in the shower I was hit with the name, "The Fellowship of the Springs"! Think about it - we bonded together around Eternity Springs - and will continue to follow the series together...but the forging of that friendship has led us to continue while we wait for Reunion Pass...

What are your thoughts about what else might sound better to you? Or do you like this tongue-in-cheek reference to classic literature and a well-known group of allies?

You can be honest...and please do.

xo

Dear Paula,
I Love the name! You are so creative, its perfect!. It includes our beginning and continuing series.... Eternity Springs with the fun and fellowship we have forged and bonded over because of the books and our love of reading and caring about each other. I vote yes to your new name. But was wondering what made you think of it in the shower of all places? Is there something added to your "springs" that helps inspire you? Aroma therapy or something? Lol

So sorry about the heater. You definitely need that fixed and soon. Why is it that things go out or break when they are most needed?

Congratulations on the job, its too bad about the commute but I always liked a little drive to and from work. It helped get me in the mindset for work and then to wind down after work. It used to be my only alone time when my kids were little. Sometimes that peace and quiet between work noises and before "Mom shes touching me", "she did it first", "she wont give me back my dolly" lovely noises of home started, was a blessing I really enjoyed. I would put in my CD or book cassette or nothing at all and enjoy the scenery. I wish you the best with your new venture.
Sincerely Yours,
Jina

Jina Gibbs | 763 comments Dear Group,
We have a reprieve from the Godleys as they are out of state visiting their relatives for the Thanksgiving holiday so we are able to breathe a little easier. We found this out throughthe school. They notified the school that Alice will be out this week to visit relatives in Tennessee so we I went in to pick Sarah up Monday afternoon the principal asked me in his office and we updated each other. I informed him of the police involvement and ongoing texts and Alices rumors at school which he will deal with when Alice returns.
But I do have a desparate prayer request. My kids best friend Kelly (girl) had to fly Tuesday morning to Arizona to be with her Mama. Her Mama has Lupus and is on life support. Her kidneys have quit, her lungs have filled with fluid, her liver is shutting down, her toes have started to turn blue, they have her on dialysis. She hasnt regained consciousness since Friday. The machines cant pick up any brain activity and her blood platelets are supposed to be 200,000. They are 2,000. Kelly is her only daughter and just turned 16 last Thursday. Miss Dawn also has a son who just turned 18 about 2 weeks ago. She isnt married so these kids are next of kin and have to make the decision to keep her on life support or pull the plug. Please pray. Kelly is the sweetest young lady and I dont want her to remember Thanksgiving as the holiday she lost her Mama. Thank you for your prayers. I know y'all can work miracles. Hugs to you.
Sincerely,
Jina

Kay (kkfar) | 502 comments Jina, Kelly and her brother are in my prayers. Such a heartbreaking situation made so much worse for them being so young with no adult guidance from relatives.

I don't mean to scare you or overthink this but I would be cautious even if the Godley's told the school they were out of town. It could be a ploy to have you all drop your guard. I probably have watched too many mysteries but just be careful.

message 538: by Jina (new)

Jina Gibbs | 763 comments Dear friends,
Thank you Kay! And your right, I wont get complacent or drop my guard about the Godleys. Who knows when they are returning or if they are just waiting until they think we arent looking. I am keeping a close watch on Sarah.
As far as Kelly and Austin, they still have their Dad who is "Toothpick" a truckdriver/biker and dear friend of ours. So they arent alone but their parents are divorced so it is rough. Toothpick and Dawn did maintain a civil friendship for the kids sake so thats a blessing too. Toothpick is heartbroken himself and sentimental and filled with regrets and shoulda, coulda, wouldas. But I like I told him, he treated Dawn well, took great care of the kids and made sure that when the kids were with Dawn that Dawns bills were paid and the kids had what they needed. He always was there for them and Dawn thought highly of him. He should have no guilt or regrets. I told him that he's a great man. He was chocked up when I got done talking to him so I hope it helped in some way.
Thanks for the prayers.

Jina, I will certainly keep this whole family in my prayers. Sounds like they really need some encouragement now. Sixteen is a hard age. Seems like emotions are up and down on reagular basis without the added stress of immortality thrown in to the mix. I pray she has strong adult figure there to help when the time comes. It is good she has her brother with her but he is really just a kid as well. We will just have to pray for God to guide them with His
infinite wisdom and mercy.
I am still praying for your family as well. I have my prayer warriors praying as well so these people don't stand a chance. One way or another whether it be by police action or Godly intervention they will not succeed in their endeavors.
Have a wonderful Thanksgiving Day with your family.
Peace be with you
Linda Manthey

I am thankful for the kids that their Dad is there for them. He can at least guide them through this very difficult time. And because he has feelings for his ex he will give them good advice. It is wonderful and God's blessing that have him.

Jina Gibbs | 763 comments Dear Friends,
I have a lot to be Thankful for this year and something extra special, this wonderful group of new friends that Ive been blessed to get to know by chance, fate and our mutual love of reading has bought us together. You all hve made me laugh, given me great advice, support and encouragement, kindness, acceptance, love and understanding and I couldn't be more grateful. Even though we've never met you've become a family of friends go me and I hope we keep in touch for years to come. My grandmother used to say that God has a "Guest List" for people. That He puts people in each others lives to learn from and grow. Even people who cause a person pain have crossed a persons path to teach them something or make them stronger. I am so glad God put y'all on my Guest List.
I hope you all have a safe a happy Thanksgiving whether you are traveling or staying home, or spending time with family or friends or if you're alone. You will be in my prayer at the Thanksgiving table tomorrow and I want to hear all about your holiday and maybe see pictures too. Take care and Have a fabulous holiday!
Hugs to you,
Jina

Dear Linda,
I am so excited for you. When you get a chance, can you tell us more about the house? I dont know about anyone else but curiousity is driving me nuts. (Or maybe I am just nosy. Lol) Is it one story house or two? How many beds and baths? Brick or log or slate, stucco? Rural or country? How do you plan to decorate? Modern, victorian, eclectic? Enquiring minds want to know. Plus my kids want to make you a housewarming present. They have about 8 ideas but they want it to be something that youd like that would go well in your house, so knowing your colors or theme for your home will help them decide which they want to do. So happy for you Im bursting!!!
Hugs to you,
Jina

Hannah (hannahdabink) | 55 comments so I've been MIA. it's been crazy in my life but it's so worth it. First off I got my wings! as an angel I went share crazy and was able to earn my wings. I love them I have them on my necklace. Secondly we are I the midst of a remodel for our kitchen. since this is an expensive work we are going slowly pay check to paycheck after work. so far we only have the island done and that not even finished. I don't even have time to read especially with the kids off of school.

Brandi, I hope your fur baby is ok. Paula I love the name! Jina as always I'm daily sending positive vibes and thoughts your way.

I hope EVERYONE has a fattening holiday! whether you celebrate or not.
