Why Read: This deals with a scientist whose scientific goal is to help her autistic son. This sounded intriguing and original.

6)Rock with Wingsby Anne Hillerman (Native American mystery) 322 pages. Source: Library Started: 6/11 Finished: 6/14

Why Read: I'm really pleased that Tony Hillerman's daughter is continuing his series. I liked the first mystery she wrote.

Comments: A zombie movie filmed in Monument Valley is plagued with difficulties and criminal behavior. I'm not a zombie fan. I also didn't like the role played by purveyors of solar panels in this novel. But I thought it was well written and that the continuing series characters were portrayed well. I gave it a B. 7)The Book of Flying by Keith Miller (romance/fantasy) 262 pages. Source: Library Started: 6/14 Finished: 6/14

Why Read: According to reviews, this is a very lyrical book about a librarian and books.

Comments: This is a quest fantasy that's filled with insights and is beautifully written. I rated it B+.

8)Across Great Divides by Monique Roy (historical fiction) Source: Author through blog tour Started: 6/15 Finished: 6/16

Why Read: This deals with German Jews who left Germany in the early 1930's to settle in South Africa. I've always been interested in South African Jews.

Comments: The protagonists went from one country where they were regarded as racially inferior to another country where the majority of the population were regarded as racially inferior. This shows how apartheid was a product of the same ideology that brought about Nazism. There was also some interesting cultural content about Zulu religion. I haven't read either of the Hillerman books written by the daughter. Glad to hear they're good reads.
