Aria Everyone seems to like maven, and i respect your opinion, but Does anybody like cal?

Belle Yes, and everyone else should too.

Aria I think I love you^^^

Belle I dont understand everyone's reason for loving Maven

Aria Exactly! He betrayed Mare.

maven-*betrays his soon to be wife and his own brother, tries to kill them*

Marven shippers-*OMG HE'S SO CUTE AND SWEET OMFG*

Belle Yeah its sweet that he wants to kill people that loved him, makes perfect sense that everyone loves Maven more than Cal.
If she does not end up with Cal I would rather she ended up with her best friend Kilron or alone, dont want to give Maven a second chance.

Aria Belle wrote: "Yeah its sweet that he wants to kill people that loved him, makes perfect sense that everyone loves Maven more than Cal.

I wouldn't care if she ended up with kilorn, either. Hell, she can go ahead and introduce someone NEW, just not Maven. Or as the Marven fangirls probably say,"mavey, wavey."

Belle How many fans of Maven are actually out there.

Aria I think a majority of the fandom likes Maven

I rarely see Cal shippers, and there is more fan art of Maven then Cal. By a lot.

Ria Visweswaran I really love Cal as a character but he doesn't believe in the same things that Mare does and neither does Maven. Mare made it clear that she wants someone who shares similar opinions to her in terms of equality between silvers and reds. I think we will see character development from Cal but as of right now, I don't think anyone is right for Mare. That being said, I still love Cal as his own character and I don't understand why others dislike him.

Ilana i loved cal based on the way that he was intro'd to us in the series and i think that we have a great character in him. he's the eldest of course so he's been raised to be the king, but i think that we'll see as we often do in other series that once you're given a chance to have a mind of your own, you do something great. i feel like Cal's got a chance to really make things good for everyone in the country and the new red/silver half breed type thing is his link to make everyone get along better.

besides - i like the chemistry that he has with Mare - there's just something there that i appreciate.

On another subject Have you seen the cover for the second book.
Its Amazing

message 13: by Aria (new) - rated it 5 stars

Aria Yes!!! The cover for glass sword is AMAZING. I love the symbolism for it, too

Belle Why do they make us wait another year for the next book to come out, its torture.

message 15: by Aria (new) - rated it 5 stars

Aria Yes, all I can think about is possible Scenarios for what can happen. Have you read the shatter me trilogy?

Belle No. Is it good

message 17: by Aria (new) - rated it 5 stars

Aria Yes, I rated it 4 stars. Well, in the book something happens with the villain and it's so hard to say anything without spoiling. It's sort of what I predict will happen with mare and maven. Hopefully it doesn't. I seriously love Cal so much 0.o

message 18: by Lara (new) - rated it 3 stars

Lara Lol. Maven is a lot different from Warner. Maven is not even likeable at this point, in my opinion anyways. And I really felt while I was reading the book that the author liked Cal a whole lot more as well. Because she really was spending more time describing him favourably, and pointing out how flawed Maven was/is but that was just what I felt.

Aria Lara wrote: "Lol. Maven is a lot different from Warner. Maven is not even likeable at this point, in my opinion anyways. And I really felt while I was reading the book that the author liked Cal a whole lot more..."

I know he is nothing like Warner. At all. I'm just saying the situation in the PLOT could be similar. Like, Juliette despised warner and then they spent time together and.....yeah... stuff happened (i don't want to spoil it, lol)

message 20: by Lara (new) - rated it 3 stars

Lara Oh I totally agree. I really hope the author doesn't make that happen. Though, I really think she's a Cal fan too, so hopefully the rest of us Cal lovers get a happy ending. lol.

message 21: by Aria (new) - rated it 5 stars

Aria Just think about all those Maven lovers, though. If she ends up with Cal I feel like there will be a lot of those greedy people who will hate on Victoria. Most people don't think about what is best for mare, they just want what they want.

Courtney Lee I think what the author has done here with Cal is very purposeful. We were all manipulated into seeing him as an unlikeable guy. But I think that will definitely change the more we learn about it. Yes, right now the majority of fans are shipping Maven. But thats only because we got to know him alot better while we were manipulated (both my him and the author) to see Cal as someone unlikeable. Anyway, I wouldnt be surprised if at the end of book 2 the majority of fans change their minds to ship Cal.

Anyway, we havent seen the full potential of Cal yet and I think thats why most people like Maven because they dont see that potential. I think the few of us that love Cal do see it though. Anyway, I hope Im right.

Courtney Lee Jasmine wrote: "That's so true and its quite annoying. Maven betrayed her in like the worst way, and then made Cal kill his own father. How is that even a good relationship? Why would you want to be In relationshi..."

Yeah, exactly. And I dont think Maven can truly redeem himself the way that Warner did. I think he can find redemption but I really dont think he is right for Mare. Plus Cal is the true king and from the title of the first book 'red queen' kind of predicts that Mare will become a leader of her people. So Cal and Mare are kind of a match from heaven. They just need to start fresh and get to know one another better.

I think the main reason people hate Cal is because he betrayed Mare. But only in a way that he believed he had no choice. He is the heir and has a certain loyalty to his people so its understandable that he betrayed her. And yet, people still prefer Maven even though his betrayal was a thousand times worse. People are always trying to justify his actions by saying he was manipulated by his mother. But in reality he still choose to betray everyone. That was his own choice.

And I so agree about Warner. He's amazing.

message 24: by Aria (new) - rated it 5 stars

Aria I'm honestly waiting for a maven fangirl to see this and start throwing a hissy fit. I'm biting my nails in anticipation and fear.

Courtney Lee Jasmine wrote: "Yes! Another person out there who actually is thinking about who Mare needs the most and not just on what they think she should have. You are officially like awesome now. :-) And go Warner!!!"

Aw thankyou. And Im glad that there are some people out there that dont bite my head off when I talk about how Cal is better for mare (in the long run) than maven. Im just waiting until book two when people start liking Cal more.

@Ariauna - yeah, not looking forward to that. But they should know what they will be getting into just by the title of the discusion. And they uave their own 'we love maven' discusions so we should be allowed to express our feelings for our prefered guy without judgement.

Belle I am just so shell shocked to hear all about this love for maven, I mean are we talking about the same book here. I swear MAVEN LOVERS OUT THERE give me 3 reasons why he is so perfect for Mare.

message 27: by Abby (new) - rated it 5 stars

Abby Smallwood Maven is not a good guy whether you fully know why or not! Cal is the best but I kind of am rooting for the childhood friend for once even if he is kind of ... Kilorn is still there for her. But Cal ... So many choices!

message 28: by Aria (new) - rated it 5 stars

Aria Maven is a wonderful villain. And the fact that he relies on his mother so much is just..... Gah. I dot mind who made ends up with, as long as he is good for her and treats her right. Although I wouldn't like Farley and cal. They seem to..... Alike in some way. That would be one helluva twist though, I'll agree! I wouldn't hate it though. I think Victoria knows what's best, since they are her characters.

Kellie While I was reading the book I always sensed something off about Maven. When they were getting close I sort of thought that she should be with Cal. As for Kilorn... he has always annoyed me for some reason. I feel like he is controlling in a way. I don't know, I just don't pick him to end up with Mare.. unless something tragic happens and it turns out Cal can never forgive Mare for her betrayal and so Mare is left with Kilorn. Who knows...maybe she'll meet someone else.... or become incest with her brother?? HAHAHHA

message 30: by Aria (new) - rated it 5 stars

Aria The whole incest with her brother is quite the thing to take in, lol. I mean, I guess I have no problem with it but it doesn't seem very.... Mare. Lol, but you never know XD

Belle Why would anyone think that Mare would go with her brother.

message 32: by Aria (new) - rated it 5 stars

Aria She definitely wouldn't, because that just isn't her, lol. That plot twist would be bigger than the maven betrayal

message 33: by Lara (new) - rated it 3 stars

Lara Wow… no definitely not. That just does not seem like Mare's personality at all, and I think her dynamic with her brother is a lot different than it is with the three potential boyfriends. She looks up to her brother, and I like that, and would like to see it stay that way.

Alhanoof I love Cal. I used to like Maven, but he broke my heart when he betrayed Mare.

message 35: by Aria (new) - rated it 5 stars

Aria Alhanoof wrote: "I love Cal. I used to like Maven, but he broke my heart when he betrayed Mare."

He did seem nice, but it was almost too nice, you know? I can't say that I saw it coming, but he always just had that... vibe. It did catch me off guard though.

Belle Same. Like I never once believed that he would betray his mother like that. But I could feel that he had a lot of resentment towards his father.
Don't know how but just did.

message 37: by Aria (new) - rated it 5 stars

Aria He seemed like he was trying so hard to act nice, so much that it started to become obvious. Especially because he was a momma's boy. After observing, you begin to start picking out little things that seem very odd about him.

Courtney Lee Ariauna wrote: "Alhanoof wrote: "I love Cal. I used to like Maven, but he broke my heart when he betrayed Mare."

I got that vibe too. Its funny though cuz I had the idea that if I was the author I would have Maven turn out to be bad. It was more like a crackpot theory and I was surprised that it actually happened. Most of my theories never end up happening. And even though I did suspect, it didnt undermine the shock I got when it was revealed that Maven was evil.

Maxine I loooove CAL!

Maria Hold on. Why are we even arguing this? Whats to like about Maven. Mare gave him a chance. She out him before his brother. And he didn't cease the oppurtunity.

I thought Maven was great, but I shipped Mare x Cal the whole book. When everyone was going on about betrayal hitting hard in this book, my first thought was the royal family. 65% in I started to suspect Maven, but I was not expecting him to go that far. Its always the underappreciated prince. That much was clear.

I think Maven betraying Cal was even worse than him betraying Mare. My poor bae, Cal. First Mare tries to play him, then his brother kills his father. Life hurts.

message 41: by Kat (new) - added it

Kat Williams I'm ambivalent. I think they're both hollow empty vessels of romantic pursuit for our protaganist. They had no substance!

Maria I really liked Cal though. He seemed more real than Maven. Or maybe I just pledged my loyalty at the beginning of the book and never changed my mind. Aveyard should add more character development to Glass Sword though.

message 43: by Kat (new) - added it

Kat Williams Yeah I really wanted to like Cal (and I did at first before all the palace intrigue) but Aveyard dropped the ball on him. I agree though. Maybe we will get better development in book 2!

Belle I think she did a tremendous job with all her character's development through out the book And Glass Sword can only get better. So much pressure it put on writers yet we only sit there and criticise and judge on what should and should not have happened.

message 45: by Aria (new) - rated it 5 stars

Aria I agree with you belle! Aveyard created this world and she knows what's best for her characters.

Belle Ariauna wrote: "I agree with you belle! Aveyard created this world and she knows what's best for her characters."

Exactly

message 47: by Abby (new) - rated it 5 stars

Abby Smallwood I just have to say I love you guys after reading the conversation! Cal is the better brother and Kilorn is the crappy but great best friend and Maven from the start I never liked.

message 48: by Aria (new) - rated it 5 stars

Aria All of us have the same opinions (well, mostly) and it's great to know there are people out there that ship cal and mare like I do!

Maria I can honestly say I had no idea that shipping Maven and Mare was even a thing.

I cannot wait for Glass Sword. Mare and Cal have already hit the absolute bottom in their relationship, so I'm hoping it can only get better from there. It may take Cal a while before he can trust again though. He's given up.

message 50: by Lara (new) - rated it 3 stars

Lara Lol, yeah, I didn't think it was a thing either. Oh well. Anyways. I completely agree with all that. I feel so bad for Cal though, poor baby. Literally can not wait to see how the relationships and plot develops in the next book. :D
