Marc-Antoine | 2888 comments Please use spoilers. So far participating is Maxine and myself, all are welcome.

Randy | 103 comments I just finished this 2 days ago. Good read, I like Nick Cutter. Hope everyone enjoys it :-)

Maxine Marsh | 737 comments Ok finally made my way over :)

Maxine Marsh | 737 comments This one looks like an interesting premise, something different from Nick Cutter.

Marc-Antoine | 2888 comments Agreed, I'm not too sure what to expect. It's been hit and miss for me with Cutter. I really enjoyed The Troop, but was not a fan of The Deep.

Marc-Antoine | 2888 comments I'm at 90% with The Talisman, should be starting The Acolyte some time tomorrow. I've got guests coming to the campsite today which will slow down my reading...

Marc-Antoine | 2888 comments Ok, I've started, right off the bat I know this is gonna be a quick read.

Marc-Antoine | 2888 comments 45 pages in, this is a weird one so far, none of the characters are likeable yet...

Maxine Marsh | 737 comments This is a fast read. Not sure what to hunk of the weird world Cutter's created, but it is just interesting enough for me to keep going. The protagonist hasn't been drawn well enough for me to 'get' him as a person yet.

Marc-Antoine | 2888 comments Yep, definitely an interesting premise...I'm pretty sure that the religion that is taking over the world is commercialism, but interesting to see the author's take on an extreme right wing christian takeover of authority.

Maxine Marsh | 737 comments Yes it is weird how all the commercial products have blatantly obvious religious names...almost a little over the top, silly.

Marc-Antoine | 2888 comments How bout that Paris Hiltonesque daughter of the prophet... Again over the top...

Maxine Marsh | 737 comments Make anymore progress on this one? I'm going to get back to it either later today or tomorrow.

Marc-Antoine | 2888 comments I'm now at page 156, the book is getting a gumshoe detective feel to it... (view spoiler). All in all, I'm enjoying it so far.

Maxine Marsh | 737 comments As I'm reading, it just gets weirder. I think the oddest thing about this book is that the narrator doesn't have feelings about anything. He just moves from scene to scene, no conjecture in his thoughts at all. I wonder if it's intentional.

Marc-Antoine | 2888 comments Yes, there seems to be a sense of detachment, but I felt that the character needs to be that way in order to live with what he does for a living.
