Well I built my shop in 2008 and threw all my stuff in it saying I'll organize later. 7 years later I finally started cleaning last night. I keep the most random stuff. Bag after bag of just randon things most of which I clearly see are useless junk but I always set them in shop for a later inspection to see if its salvagable. I had brand new boxes of nails and screws not ooened buried in there. Bunch of tractor filters bought in 2008 still unopened. Funny thing is I remember going to do an o change and looked for that bag of filters years ago and couldn't find it. That is actually my plan for NYE clean shop. Theres beer and music in there what more do I need. Its also the beer whu things get left undone in the shop but there is no better place for beer and music than in the shop

Our NYE plans have fallen through somewhat. We have tickets for the pantomime at 5:30 which should be fun but family friends were due to come and stay for a couple of days but they have had to cancel last minute due to illness. So we will go to the panto and then it will be a quiet, cozy evening at home. We will probably watch the fireworks display in London on tv at midnight. The BBC show it every year.
Ooh Lisa that sounds fun, what are you seeing? Same for me too. A quiet one in, watching a film and will finsih my nail art, do some crochet, playing Disney Monolpoly and watch the London fireworks with some nice mulled wine =]
Sometimes it's just nice to stay in and be warm and cosy and watch the new year roll in.

Like Cherie - all the foods you're supposed to stay away from is what I love to eat - like pecan pie, fries, chocolate and other calorie-heavy main meals. Right now I have a whole yummy pecan pie (not sharing!) When we have people over everyone either chips in to bring food or we just order out pizza. haha
I like all the quiet NYE plans. We have a fun night in with the kids. I get a bunch of apps on the table (not much cooking!), some wine for my husband and me, and we play games until the Ball drops then we go to bed.
We plan a quite and delicious dinner at home (only us here), with an amazing wine. Not sure how well we'll be able to organize this since today we'll have (again) people doing some work at home. The last 3 or 4 weeks we'll have something going on. First a new cement floor in part of the backyard. There were some cracks that were getting bigger and bigger in a daily basis and we were worried about the weight of the snow during the winter (which snow???). Then the oil tank of the furnace started leaking and need to be replaced. But since the burner itself was near 20 years old (and needed to be replaced soon anyways) we take advantage of the situation (?) and switch to natural gas. New furnace. The tank was emptied, and now they are coming today to take it off.
It happened that the electric water heater broke too at the same time, so we again decided to take advantage of the situation (ok, I'm just trying to be positive), and installed a gas water heater, since the "gas" people was here.
That's when the faucet in my kitchen started leaking badly. So we'll need a new one, that was already ordered and it will be replaced next Tuesday. A faucet doesn't seem to be a great problem, but imagine I need to cook for 10 twice a day...
All of this plus all my kids off from school for 10 days now, all the 10 days raining, this house is a total chaos.

That sounds awful Sandra. I hope you have no more bad luck when this is all fixed!I like all your quiet nights in with the family. Here it almost seems like a crime to stay at home by yourself, without other people coming over, it always feels like you *have* to go out and party all night. And I'm not much of a party-person ;-) That's why I don't like New Year's so much, it feels like being forced to go out and celebrate even if you don't want to celebrate big. When we were in our late teens it was fine, but then there was this period when everyone of our friends wanted to do something different and my bf and I escaped the whole thing by going away for a few nights around new year's. And once we celebrated with the two of us but we felt a bit sad somehow, even though we wanted to stay at home. But now that we're all getting older more people seem to prefer to be at home with friends and have dinner or something together, so that's good :)

I find each year more people get taken out by kids, and then visiting family/escaping family. This year there is this horrid cold going around too, so finding anyone standing was hard. We were happy for board games with friends, but they are sick too! I think next year we should go away for holidays. Lexx on 8 hot toddies or so is like a party though :P
It's awful now, Peggy, but when it's done we'll have a near new brand house, plus the kids come back to school on Monday 4th! Five of them at least. :)
You will save so much money with natural gas you will be glad in the end. And so much cleaner you never have to fet the furnace cleaned
Do any of you guys get solar in the States? I haven't paid more than a $100 power bill once a year (winter quarter) since we got solar.
When (if) we ever build a new house and/or barn we plan to have solar and wife keeps going on about geothermal. When you build a barn especially you have this ginormous roof sitting there why arent they being covwred in solar panels I don,'t get it. There is only one I know of on solar
Geothermal would be interesting, not sure how it would work particularly in your area. I have no idea what the status is in your part of the world or how it would work. Is it still sustainable if you are take heat out of the ground but not putting it back in? (ignorance here, not any facts)Where we are in Aus, you just get panels. We have 20 panels, or 5kW. We also have a separate solar hot water system. I would probably get more now, but can always add. But yes, if you had a large roof unused like a barn or stables, now here you would solar it, as you could probably run a farm off that solar generated and not pay bills.

The tank is gone. These guys did a great job. I'll recommend them to anyone who needs this kid of work done.

@Peggy - congratulations on the gaining the keys to the kingdom. How exciting to move into your own new home.@Rusalka - I suspect that you'll always be "a little off". LOL! But, it's obvious that you're feeling better. Or is it the New Year's cheer?
The greatest success I had with dieting was when I read a book called Diet's Don't Work. The author had 4 rules:
1. Eat only when you are hungry.
2. Eat exactly what your body tells you to eat. If you're craving something, then eat it.
3. Be conscious of every bite. Don't distract with tv or reading Goodreads (like I do).
4. Eat only until you are no longer hungry (not full).
Tonight, we are going to an English pub to ring in the British New Year complete with bagpipes and drums. My friend is Scottish and this is a nostalgic thing for her. She'll call her sister at 5:00 our time/midnight Scotland. Then, we're going out for supper. We won't be able to hear each other, but eating in silence is good (see above).

My wife bought a fitbit a couple years ago. She logged her food and excercise, physical exertion and used it to make sure she took in less than she put out until her weight went where she needed then matched the input outout to maintain it. Also drinks a ridiculous amoubt of water. The fit bit is freat if you want to make the effort otherwise its just a waste of $80
My husband and son each got one this year. My husband loves his and feels it really helps him. I don't see the excitement in it at all. My husband is a gatchet guy so I think that's also the appeal for him.
What's the deal with fireworks where you all live? Are there firework shows organised by the town/city you live in, or can you get your own?In the Netherlands everyone can buy fireworks, and set them off. I think it's now only allowed between 6pm (or maybe 8) and 2 am, but of course many people don't stick to this and there's loud bangs all day and yesterday as well. I don't like fireworks. Well, they're okay up in the sky, but I don't like it when people set them off. So many accidents happen each year with people losing eyes and hands, not only the ones setting it off but also bystanders. But what do you expect when it's midnight, everyone has been drinking for some hours, and then you go play with fireworks... There's more and more argument that fireworks for individuals should be forbidden, with only organised shows in every town and city, and polls show that the majority of people is in favour of that, but so far the government is not changing things, except decreasing the timeslot during which fireworks can be set off.
Fireworks are illegal in the city of Charlottesville, VA but some are ok in the county (Albemarle) which we are close to. We just play it safe and we don't get any fireworks :) we'd rather go somewhere and watch them, as long as our dog can come along though :) it is quite dog friendly here which is great for us!
The fit bit is a wastw of money since it graphs the whole day if one of you wear it during sex no matter how hard you work at it unless you can have vigorous sex or like 6 hours it only gets a tiny spike to the graph. I even quit demanding to see the graph after it was too disappointing even in my best performances
The sale of fireworks is illegal in most of Southern California, I think it is a city to city decision, but I think for the most part it is illegal,I'm not sure if there are even any shows set up for tonight, that is usually a bigger deal on the Fourth of July :-)

People buy fireworks for there own private use here in the UK. I don't ever remember seeing organised displays for new year. But then we have guy fawkes in November which is when we generally have fireworks displays. The only organised ones at New Year that i remember was for the millenium. They do have a big display every year in London when Big Ben chimes twelve but I've never been. It's always rammed and tonight will be a washout.
I seemed to have missed some posts. I'm all for solar panels. Love ours. Not doing much right now. We only have 280W (2 panels) but we might double up next year. I didn't realise geothermal was possible in many places. I know it's the main power source in Iceland.I hope everyone who has got the dreaded lurgy gets better soon.

Spreading manure and 30yards ahead a bunch of crows fly up then to my amazement a bald eagle. I love that I've never seen one on my property although there ar several on area now

I hope everyone's new year is off to a great start (those of you who are already in 2016 that is). I will be in bed (I hope) long before midnight. I'm working tomorrow, so it's just a regular night. I'm totally jealous for everyone experiencing warm weather. I think it's warm everywhere except the west coast of the US. It's in the 20's here, and has been for a few days. It was a beautiful day today, though, not a cloud in the sky. I'm sure the fireworks at the Space Needle in Seattle tonight will be spectacular.

Re: fireworks. It's all official displays here. Fireworks for personal use is illegal here now days. Where I am used to be the place for the 3 Ps - Porn, Pot and Pyro. But these days just 2 of those. I don't mind, my letter box hasn't been blown up in years, animals are happier and less people strapping them to other people's cats. Also, you could only get the fireworks on the Queens Birthday in June, not all year. Which with total fire bans most New Years, is a smart move. Bushfires everywhere because someone lets off a Tom Thumb in the scrub, no thanks.
