We're chick sitting at the moment for friends who have gone to Fiji. There are four of them. They are manic and don't stop for one second. Which is fine when there is one and two of you. Or two of both. With four, the chickens have taken over the house.

They are dorable, but my god. This is where I found them yesterday when I got home. There was a plant in that pot yesterday morning. No more. Replaced by chicken. They are in a gap as I rescued an aloe vera plant that has been thoroughly nibbled, and a chilli plant that had leaves and flowers that had been reduced to a stick. Note the decimated other leaves on the other plants.
They discovered the bookshelves last night while we were sleeping...
Black ones are ours, white ones are going home on Friday or Saturday. It's nearly Thursday...

Love the chicks Rusalka . Let's hope they give you a rest these next couple of days.
I didn't know about those towns doing that Joan. Love it. I hate dog poo. There are a lot of dog walkers along the towpath and it's so annoying when someone let's there dog poo right outside my boat front door then doesn't clear it up.

Good luck Rusalka!

And how innocent they look! 'Us? No! We didn't do anything!'

We are supposed to get a rainstorm tonight into tomorrow :( I don't mind rain but our temps are all over the place here so it makes me nervous for storms.
The wind in my hometown (Spokane, WA) knocked down a ton of trees and there are thousands without power, according to friends on Facebook. My parents lost a few pine trees during one of the last wind storms, hopefully nothing got knocked down this time.

I think the chicks would have to live in the bathroom during the day, while I was gone, if they lived at my house, or maybe in a large animal crate in the dining room. Are the white chicks teaching your black ones some bad habits?

This made me think that the white chicks are the proverbial black sheep. LOL.
It got stormy in my neck of the woods last night too. It was so windy all day yesterday and then stormed during the night. I slept right through it though. There were some branches from our neighbor's trees that fell, but nothing major. Temps are crazy as usual this time of year in Mississippi... we had our first frost of the season over the weekend and it has been back to t-shirt weather the last couple of days. Temps are falling now that the storm front has passed but it is still a mild 50-60 F for the next couple of days. Then this weekend they are forecasting lows in the 20's. But next week will probably be mild again. It is never constant here, back and forth, up and down with no rhyme or reason.

They will live outside Kandice, but these are only a month old and still need heat lamps (although obviously not all the time from this perch). The grown up girls will also kill them at the moment, so we keep them separated until they are full grown and can handle the hen pecking. 3 months.
I woke this morning to that one back in her pot, and the other one in the white pot on the left. They are slowly claiming a pot each...

I have to say, we also had 3 ducks and cakes made with fresh duck eggs are the best! We also had NO pests in our garden the entire time we had the ducks.

No snakes near a chicken coop?! One of my coworkers has made her husband start collecting the eggs from their chickens because snakes keep going in to eat the eggs. And even though chicken snakes (also called rat snakes) aren't poisonous, she's still scared of them... and I would be too!

..."
They are pot-ty trained now...

Used to put them in a box with very high ""borders?!"" Edge ? So they can't escape and go around hiding behind furnitures or under them in other cases!

The chickens poo everywhere. You have to clean up after them all the time. They are very much poo machines. At the moment we cover all couches and tables in sheets while we are at work, and then at the end of each day set the robot vacuum cleaner going. Easier while you are at home and just clean up after them as they go with a tissue or such.
You can "potty" train (toilet train) chickens. But we haven't had the time nor patience for it.
Urgh, Mariab. I think groan worthy is the best compliment for a pun :P

I feel like I've been away for ages, checking up here and there. My project is on-going at our remodeled location. I'm going up again tomorrow and Tuesday. I really hope that Tuesday is my last trip north. The week after the holidays they are finally setting up remote access, so fingers crossed I can do any more fine tuning from my warm office. So glad the weather decided to drop below freezing the week I get to work outside!
Other than that, I got to have dinner with my niece (who's 5 years younger than me) and her two kids on Monday before they headed back home to Alaska. Then on Tuesday, my nephew took me to a hockey game - and despite falling asleep in the 2nd period, and a goalie who couldn't seem to remember how to stop a puck, we ended up winning 5 to 4 in the final 5 minutes of the 3rd period. Oh! And, beer was only $2 even if it was Canadian. LOL.

That is a LOT of poo!

The little white ones have gone home. It now feels very quiet :( But our ones are loving having all the perches to themselves again.

We had our first frost this morning. Looks pretty with the sun shining on it. It's going to be -2c tonight. Winter has arrived.

Brrrr, -2! Does it get much colder, Sarah? That is too cold in my book for sure :)

Because you have read Pride and Prejudice you might enjoy

I mostly find those GR recs to be more amusing than helpful.

I agree. I get all the time really good recommendations from real people here, but never from GR itself. Whatever is the algorithm they use to recommend books, it is dreadful.

The Giant panda at the Washington DC zoo had two cubs awhile ago (one passed away :( ). They have a web cam on the pandas :) it is addicting to watch them. Very entertaining. I know some people do not like zoos but I find them educational but I do feel bad for the animals because some zoos do not have enough room so their enclosures are tiny :( the DC zoo though and the one in Omaha, NE is pretty nice for the animals, in my opinion :)
