Watcha Doing? Version 2015.5

At work, it has been a busy afternoon of costumed trick-r-treaters going around the cubicles collecting candy for Halloween. I am going to go pick up a couple of Library books that have come through for my series challenge and start reading Hallowe'en Party, which I have been saving to read.

Hi Joan. Booktube videos are videos on YouTube all about books! It is a great way to pick up new authors/titles and I find, if I am in a bit of a reading slump it gets me pumped up to read. They also do reviews of books, just on video rather than in the written form which is pretty cool.

The list for best reviewer is based on number of likes for reviews.

I've experienced the same issue. Because my OCD demands that it be accurate, I select the update option, and re-enter how many books I want to read, and re-reference the bookshelf. It's a pain but it does the trick.

Glad you are feeling better too, travis!

You have to add them as "Currently Reading" first. It's so you can add books as read- that you may have read years ago- without having those books counted toward what you read this year.

Some of my favourite Booktubers are:
Mercys Bookish Musings
Words of a Reader
Kirsty on Books
Jen Campbell
Bookish Thoughts
Reads and Daydreams
There are other Booktubers that I like too but these are the ones that I watch regularly and really enjoy. Booktube is pretty addictive so consider yourself warned Tasha ;)

Is the challenge widget not supposed to look at the "date finished" and populate it in the correct year?
I discovered that the short stories that I have set up on an exclusive shelf were counting towards my challenge even though they didn't go on my "read" shelf. I had to remove the dates and put them into a private note. I don't consider a short story a book.

Did you enter the date that you finished the book? My understanding is that the challenge looks at the "read" shelf and the date finished.

For some reason, it just won't unless you set it to "Currently Reading." I think you might- although I've never tried it- be able to manually set the date started and have it also go into your Challenge list. (When you set a book to currently reading, it automatically sets your start date. So I'm assuming that that's what makes it register for a GR challenge for that year.)

I wonder if it's something with the app? I entered the data from the full site.

I don't see Reconstructing Amelia in the list of your GR Challenge Books.

Everything has returned to normal on the canal apart for one stretch which is still closed while it's being repaired.

We've had quite a few trick or treaters this evening. I doubt we will get many more as a lot of places local to us are holding their fireworks displays tonight.

There are fireworks going off near to where I live too Sarah. There will be quite a lot going off next weekend too because that's when a lot of the big displays in the area are due to take place. We haven't had any trick or treaters come to the door so far. We used to get quite a lot coming round but the numbers have really dropped over the past few years. Thought there might be quite a few kids out and about this year seeing as the weather is dry and mild but haven't seen or heard any.

I did spend the day moving the furniture back into the dining room, and loading up the hutch with all the china and crystal. My mom used to sell crystal in the 70's so there is a ton of it to haul around. It feels so good to have space in my living room again. We still have more to do, with about 20% more of the painting left. I'll be happy when it's back to normal.

I've been super busy the past few days. I took off work Thursday and Friday so I could finish getting ready for and have an estate sale at my M-I-L's house. I worked all day Thursday getting the last things ready and had the sale Friday and today. Yesterday went pretty well but today was a flop. Rain was moving in and I don't think people were out very much. We closed up after only about 3 hours with only one customer that was returning to pick up something bought yesterday. I sold several pieces of furniture and miscellaneous items yesterday, enough that I called the sale a success. I'll maybe try to sell some of the furniture and nicer collectible pieces online and take the rest to goodwill. My mother said i should set up again next weekend, but I don't much think I want to...

I deleted it right away. I haven't read the book and it was just a test.

Thanks, Lisa! I'm sure I'm going to part way regret this... ;)
We had a nice night last night going around with the kds. My neighborhood is very small and we usually only have about 8 houses 'open' for halloween. We usually leave after and go to a bigger town where all the streets really get into it and have lots of homes open for trick or treating. We then go out to eat. It's a fun night.

We had our trick or treating last Thursday. Our town (and other towns in the area) change Halloween night to the Thursday before if the 31st is a Friday or a Saturday because of the traffic. During football season the traffic is very intense on these nights here, so at some point it was decided it is safer for the kids not to be outside going around. Thankfully everybody adapts really well, and it works like a normal Oct. 31st.
It wasn't too cold, so we could go around for a long time. The kids had a lot of fun, and hoarded a huge pile of treats. (that's not so good, though)
The best part is the contact the kids have with the people. I love to see them saying "good night", and "happy Halloween", "I like your jack'o'lantern" and telling about their costumes. I don't know why but my two years old told everybody "see you tomorrow" (???)
At some point my four years old was tired of his claws (to hard to pick the treats with them) and took his costume off. In the following house he answered "I'm nothing" when inquired who he was. The woman laughed so much, that he changed his speech and in the rest of the houses he answered "I'm someone". :)

Loved your four-year-old son's responses, Sandra! Cute and so funny -- and true - he is someone!

When I have groceries, I park along the sidewalk beside my apartment because it's a short trip to the patio door. It's much easier than hauling groceries through the parking lot, through two entrance doors and finally my apartment door. Mid afternoon when I arrived home with groceries, there were a couple of kids sitting on the pony wall by the parking lot. I opened the trunk and started to lift a couple of bags out when I heard, "Excuse me. Do you need help with your groceries?" The two kids had approached me. I thanked them for their offer and said I didn't need help. "Are you sure?" I asked them if they were going to dress up and go halloweening, what they were going to wear, where they went and if they were excited. They asked a third time if they could help, but I sent them on their way and told them to have fun and enjoy the evening. I was very impressed with these kids. Warmed my heart, so it did. :)

No trick or treaters here, but that's no surprise. Halloween isn't very big here.

That's lovely! Kids can be so sweet. Of course they can also be...the opposite. O_o

That's really nice Janice!

We didn't have any trick or treaters...but we also didn't buy any candy so it's probably good we didn't have any trick or treaters :) I would think being in an apartment would be prime for kids to trick or treat at. We didn't even see anyone walk by.
We explored along the blueridge parkway yesterday. It was beautiful and we came upon a waterfall! It was really cool! We had left our dog at home since he has some kind of bump on his tummy (the vet doesn't know what it is), so we didn't want to get him dirty :)

thanks for the sweet story - so many kids today are truly thoughtful and wonderful

They have a new manager since a couple of years and the atmosphere has gone downhill fast and my dad has mentioned that a couple of times. I guess he was becoming too much of a hassle.
Financially my mom and dad will manage and I think he will enjoy spending his weeks doing jobs around the house and those kind of things. It just makes me SO mad - and sad - that he worked there, very hard, for over 45 years of his life, and this is how they thank him. No nice goodbye and thanks for all the work when he turns 67, with lots of his colleagues present whom he has worked with for decades, but instead they just kick him out with no thanks whatsoever. He doesn't deserve that.

Travis, glad you are feeling better.
About the top reviewers - I thought it had to do with the number of reviews and how many people 'like' them. Not sure why I think that though.
As for me, I currently have no reading time! I am moving tomorrow and spent the day packing. I was running around too much to really listen to anything. Can't wait to be in our new house in a few days and able to relax a bit.
