Watcha Doing? Version 2015.5
When I last posted, it looked like rain and storms were imminent. However, the clouds lifted and blue patches could be seen peeking out. Right at midnight, I heard the first booms of the fireworks. I sat on the edge of my bed, curtains open and enjoyed the show.Happy Canada Day!
Happy Canada Day! What do you guys do to celebrate? I take it the fireworks were for that?!This is a nice empty thread so now we can chat it up a storm. Much easier to view.
Almost time to go home from work. I just finished up one project for today and I really don't want to start something else with less than 15 minutes left in the work day. Perfect excuse to check in on GR for a few! :) Tomorrow is my Friday since we are off on the 3rd for Independence Day. I love when holidays fall of Mondays, Fridays, or weekends. Our company only gives us one day off on holidays and since the 4th falls on Saturday this year, we get to take Friday off. Yay for a three day weekend!
The husband and I were planning on taking our camper and canoe to one of our favorite places for the weekend, but they are predicting 60-80% rain all weekend. I don't know for sure if we are going now or not. I was really looking forward to it, but there's no fun in going that far to be stuck in the camper then entire time.
What is everyone here planning to do for (America's) Independence Day?
What are the Canadians in our group doing for Canada Day today?
I am also off Friday for Independence Day! Yay!!!!We have a lot of house projects, but will manage to get in a BBQ on Saturday and my husband will take the kids to see fireworks while I sit with the animals who tend to go ballistic during them.
Cool drawing, CFDeeDee :)I wanted to take Blake to the ocean since we haven't taken him yet. He has an irritation on his left ear so we had to scratch those plans :(
Someday we will get to walk him along the beach :)
I think Travis posted that books on t-shirts site once before - I really love it. I wish you could choose your favourite book so it's ultra personal rather than the ones they have in stock but I guess that would be SO expensive.I'm off work today. I have some jobs to do around the boat but I'm going to do a bit more reading too. I'm in a bit of a grump because I didn't sleep again last night because of the heat. It's too hot for a duvet, even with no clothes on, but then I get too cold with just a sheet because I'm sweating I can feel the breeze from the windows. So the whole night I went from hot to cold to hot etc.
We went in to the supermarket yesterday and were tempted to buy a couple of beers as we had enjoyed the ones we had the last couple of days. We decided not to bother as we didn't want to get in the habit of drinking a few each day (we aren't big drinkers anyway and can go months without one but beer goes down nicely on a hot day). Then when we were at the till I saw a box of 12 which was reduced so we ended up buying that. So from possibly buying 2, to none, to 12 all in the space of 1 minute. These supermarkets know what they are doing!
That last bit about the supermarkets reminds me of a song by Cultureshock, Ten Per Cent Off, which has a line in it "10% Discount in the Store, Persuades you to buy what you can't afford. What you'd never have thought of buying before." Very true!
You are absolutely right about the beer and the supermarkets! You don't really pay 10% less, you spend 90% more, because you wouldn't buy it otherwise.I'm sorry about your bad nights... It's so hard to go all the day long without a good rest at night. I hope it gets better soon.
@Dtephanie: Thanks, is Blake your dog ?!@Sarah: ooh I'm sorry to hear that, I understand how that feels like when there is nothing to cool down the heat .. LOL that happens with chocolate and chips when it comes to me :P
@Lisa: thanks :D
I love litographs. I really want one of their tees, but I've never broken down and bought one. There is a store on etsy that sells scarves with book text on them like litographs does. They may do more than scarves now, I haven't been on there in a long time... but they would do custom prints with whatever book text you wanted (or your own creation). It looks like our canoe/camping trip is off. Thunderstorms tomorrow with chance of flooding and damaging winds. Not a good forecast to be staying in a camper or on the water. We might could go Saturday, but we just aren't sure it is worth driving 2.5 hours one way with a camper for just one night. If the weather was going to be better we could go and tent camp for one night, but I don't want to be in a tent when it is raining. I'm too spoiled for that. ;)
I had my second interview for the new job. It was an all day ordeal with multiple meetings, but I felt it went really well. I am now just waiting for a phone call hopefully with a formal offer. Unfortunately, I have to work the independence day holiday this weekend. So no celebrating will be done here. I am going out to dinner tonight for my birthday with my husband and kids.

Happy birthday, Amanda! Hope you have a great time with your family.Too bad your trip is off, Kimmey. I wouldn't want to be in a tent in a rain neither!

hi. Remember me? I have been swamped at work and did quite of few hours of volunteer on top so I did not get much reading done lately. But i was on vacation this week and I think I am back on track.
One side note, for the veggie lovers here, I got a spirooli for my birthday. I am loving it. I did a garlic-scape and roasted almond pesto and threw it on top of zucchini noodles. wow!
CFDeeDee wrote: "Thats so cool Stephanie .. Dogs are second best pet I had after my birds :D"I never had a bird :( we had birds come to our feeder at our old place (our current place doesn't allow them). They say the feeders can lure unwanted pests :(
I had a pet rat when I was in high school. He was so cool! I ended up being allergic to him so back to the pet store he went :( he would hang out in t-shirt pocket. I was bummed when I had to give him back :(

Glad to hear you're back on track and reading and posting again.
@Amanda: Finger crossed for you, happy birthday :D @Stephanie: Yeah, it breaks your heart when you lose one of your pets :(

Hi Esther! Glad to have you back! :)

Welcome back Esther. I was only thinking about you this week. Glad to hear you are back on track. A holiday is always good for that.
Happy Birthday Amanda!Stephanie, I had a couple pet rats too though not at the same time. My first was an albino that I saved from my college days, he was an actual lab rat. I loved him, he was the sweetest thing ever and actually very cuddly and friendly. The second one I had was a black/white hooded rat and wasn't quite as friendly. I really enjoyed them though. This was years ago in my 20s.

Yes, that is the place! I didn't realize they had a website too. I found the bookmark on my computer for their etsy store, same company.
Happy Birthday, Amanda! Glad to hear the interview went well. Hopefully you will get a call from them soon!
I've never had a rat but I've always heard they make great pets. I had two parakeets once... I'm pretty sure one of them was clinically insane so I'll probably never attempt them for pets again. LOL.
I had pet sugar gliders, they are very sweet and fun! They require a lot of work and attention. They are nocturnal and since I tend to go to bed early, I doubt I would get another one because I can't give one the attention they deserve. The four dogs I have now are all of the pets I think I can handle! LOL.

Awe! That's so cool, Tasha! Mine was tan and white and was a boy :) I had a hamster ball for him and our family dog thought it was fun to chase him when he was in the hamster ball :) it was a bummer when I had to give him back though. I should have just sucked up the allergies :)
Berit wrote: "Okay guys I need advice, what should I get an iPhone 6 or 6+? Any thoughts?"I don't like the 6+ because I have small hands. I have the 6 now and I think I would have problems with one much bigger.
That's what I'm thinking, but I have pretty long fingers, I'd be a great pianist, well if I knew how to play the piano ;-)
Esther wrote: "One side note, for the veggie lovers here, I got a spirooli for my birthday. I am loving it. ..."I got one recently also.
The best thing I've made so far is zucchini noodle salad with olives and marinated artichoke hearts. The zucchini just wraps around your fork like spaghetti. Fun!
The worst...a chip out of my finger! Those things are sharp.☻
Hang in there, Mariab.Hi, Esther - glad to hear from you.
Good wishes for job and happy birthday, Amanda.
Sending warm hellos to all : )
Very busy with brother and family's return from Malaysia this month. Happy beyond words that they are back.
I can't comment on iPhone 6 vs 6+ since I'm not willing to fork over the big bucks for the monthly payments. I have a 4-yr-old android by Samsung (Galaxy Exhibit). Pre-pay $30 per month plan. Unlimited text and data. 100 talk time minutes. Works for me.
