Dawn | 1371 comments Memory Man by Baldacci 8/10 Beginning of a new series by Baldacci. After taking a hit in football, the traumatic brain injury has given Amos a "gift" of a perfect memory. Unfortunately when his family is murdered, the visual memory is vivid in his mind.

In the Unlikely Event by Judy Blume 10/10 Based on actual events when 3 planes crashed into the same town in a 6 month period. The impact on some of the people living in the town. Elizabeth NJ is about 1/2 hour from me, and this was something I never knew. (It was a little before my time ;))

Solitude Creek by Deaver 6/10 Kathryn Dance series. I have to tell you the next time I was at an event with a crowd, this story was on my mind! I liked it right up till the end...I thought it ended too fast and too conveniently.

Finders Keepers by King 9/10 The continuation of Mr. Mercedes. King always manages to give me chills.

early 1950's in elizabeth, new jersey.

message 8: by Dawn (new)

Dawn | 1371 comments Yep, Early 1950's. I asked my dad who grew up in Madison NJ, but he was serving overseas during this period, so even he didn't know about it. The planes were taking off and landing at Newark, but coming in over Elizabeth to do so. Also learned some tidbits about the flight industry of that time, and where some of the planes came from.
Melodie...enjoy! I'm sure you will!

Ann (annrumsey) | 16981 comments Good month, Dawn! (a month with a new Stephen King book is always a good month!) Interesting about the plane crashes, I will have to look that one up. I have the new David McCullough book about the Wright Brothers on my hold list and that later info would probably complement it The Wright Brothers
I have steered away from the Katherine Dance books by Deaver after the first one (or two maybe) - it seems unusual for him to not drag out the ending with another twist. :)

Good books- I want to read Memory Man and In the Unlikey event as well. I don't live far from Elizabeth either. I had heard of the plane crashes but hadn't read up on them.

Carol/Bonadie (bonadie) | 9507 comments I haven't read a Deaver in quite some time. You are making me consider returning to him.

I've driven through Elizabeth, NJ dozens of times on my drive to Philly, and just remember the overpowering smell, of what I don't know -- refineries maybe?

message 12: by BarryP (new)

BarryP (barrypz) | 3501 comments Quite a few refineries there. Could just be New Jersey though.

message 13: by Dawn (new)

Dawn | 1371 comments :) Its actually much better now, but I admit to a certain smell along that stretch of the turnpike and among the swamp area near the Meadowlands, especially years ago. But thats just a little piece of the state. We have some beautiful (scenic and smelling) areas in NJ, I promise.
