Trisha | 30284 comments We are starting the "I Dare you Challenge" back up...but with new rules and information - so be sure to read this through!

There are 32 Dares listed. Each book read per Dare is worth 1 point
- To claim the point, FIRST you post in the "dare" what book you plan to read (either link or cover)
- After reading, you post a completion post in the Completed Dares thread

Post for points example:

The Raven Boys (The Raven Cycle, #1) by Maggie Stiefvater
Dare #16
read: 6/1
rating: 5 stars

Total Dares Completed: 5

New Rules
1. This will be a 1 month challenge that will re-start every Month (everyone will go back to 0 points)
2. Each month, the person with the most Dares completed (points) will get to ADD A NEW DARE
3. Each month, the Dare with the least amount of books read will be removed to add the new Dare.

Jessica (Goldenfurpro) (goldenfurproductions) | 1020 comments I have a few ARC copies I need to read, will those count for the dares? Or can I only read books already out?

ARCs are fine!

Becca Proehl | 60 comments Do they have to be young adult? The Good Minds Suggest dare is difficult to find a young adult book.

Yeah.. Ahh, I see that. Well, you don't have to read a book from that dare and it might be eliminated anyways. :D

message 9: by Becca (new)

Becca Proehl | 60 comments Okay last question! Can we use books from other challenges/buddy reads/copycat/etc.?

message 10: by Vicki (last edited Jul 05, 2015 09:58PM) (new)

Vicki (goodreadscomboobooper49) | 31156 comments Wow! Being gone on vacation I'm even behind on new challenges. LOL I just now saw this for the first time. I LOVE the new change/rules and I am so impressed with the organization of it as well! :o) Kudos!

message 11: by Trisha, lives on coffee (new)

Trisha | 30284 comments Becca, yes, absolutely!!

Great question!

message 12: by Trisha, lives on coffee (new)

Trisha | 30284 comments Aww, thanks Vicki!
We were really excited to reintroduce it since it was such a great idea and everyone seemed to love it! I'm excited to see some new challenges and how high we can get these points going! :)

message 13: by Trisha, lives on coffee (new)

Trisha | 30284 comments I have the leader board in Post #2

let me know if for some reason you guys aren't able to access/see it :)

It's my first google doc shared spreadsheet so I wanted to make sure everyone looked okay!

message 14: by Vicki (new)

Vicki (goodreadscomboobooper49) | 31156 comments If a book can be used in two places such as new author and new release, can we count them for both or pick one?

message 15: by Trisha, lives on coffee (new)

Trisha | 30284 comments Just one.
One book per one Dare :)

message 16: by Vicki (new)

Vicki (goodreadscomboobooper49) | 31156 comments Haha! No doubling or tripling up, huh? LOL Just wanted to make sure! I could have possibly gotten a whole lot done in one huge sweep! :o)

~Akweley♡Mazarae♥~★☆★oblivion★☆★~I CAN'T BREATHE~ (nala13) | 781 comments Can I start now? Or is it too late?

message 18: by Trisha, lives on coffee (new)

Trisha | 30284 comments Yeah, jump right in Nadia!!

~Akweley♡Mazarae♥~★☆★oblivion★☆★~I CAN'T BREATHE~ (nala13) | 781 comments Thanks! So I just choose a dare and post when I'm finished?

message 20: by Trisha, lives on coffee (new)

Trisha | 30284 comments Yep! and I'll keep track of your "points" :)

fun right?

~Akweley♡Mazarae♥~★☆★oblivion★☆★~I CAN'T BREATHE~ (nala13) | 781 comments Yeah, it seems totally cool.

Will a book I've already started this month count for a dare?

message 22: by Trisha, lives on coffee (new)

Trisha | 30284 comments Sure!

message 23: by Mandiann (new)

Mandiann (goodreadscommandiann) | 6882 comments Trisha wrote: "Sure!"

Okay, thanks!

message 25: by Trisha, lives on coffee (new)

Trisha | 30284 comments I'm so excited to see all you guys jumping on these dares!

I'm curious to see which one has the least books read for it (which one will be removed) and what we add!

I hope you guys are finding/reading gook books! :)

message 26: by Mandiann (new)

Mandiann (goodreadscommandiann) | 6882 comments What happens if multiple dares tie for the least books read?

message 27: by Trisha, lives on coffee (last edited Jul 08, 2015 07:04PM) (new)

Trisha | 30284 comments Then we'll let the person with the most dares read (the one who is making a new one) pick which one is deleted :)

Mandiann (goodreadscommandiann) | 6882 comments Trisha wrote: "Then we'll let the person with the most dares read (the one who is making a new one) pick which one is deleted :)"

Sounds fair.

Another question. Can we only do each dare once for a maximum of 30 points or can we do the same dare repeatedly as long as we read a different book each time?

message 29: by Vicki (new)

Vicki (goodreadscomboobooper49) | 31156 comments Good question, Mandiann!

message 30: by Trisha, lives on coffee (new)

Trisha | 30284 comments You can repeat as many dares as many times as you'd like! No limit per times per dare!

message 31: by Suzy (new)

Suzy Kennedy | 345 comments Question- If we can complete a dare multiple times should they all be worth the same?

I just ask cause I have 8-10 novellas planned to be read this month to finish off a series and most are under/ around 100 pages. And I'm assuming that minimum page count doesn't count for this Dare because it is for Novellas- or does it?

Also listopia- because if a book doesn't fit any of the other 29 dares- every book a person reads will fit this dare because (I wanna say) every book is on at least 1 listopia list.

Just some observations I made when I was seeing how my planned books fit into the dares.

message 32: by Trisha, lives on coffee (last edited Jul 10, 2015 05:28PM) (new)

Trisha | 30284 comments Yep, Suzy!
All your observations are absolutely right!
but so far, I'm going to say, that each completion is worth the same amount

if we find, one month, this makes the challenge uneven, then we may revisit it - but so far, I think everyone is doing great!

and you're right, just about EVERY book you read could meet a dare somewhere!

The reason I think the novellas work is because it may put 2 people on more even ground than they would be in a normal "read as many books as you can" challenge.

let's say I read about 40 books per month (this is a pretty accurate amount for me)

let's say you read about 30 ...and then you read 10 novellas.

You and I would be closer at competing than we would be if I required everyone to read a certain page limit. But, definitely, Jacquelyn and I will keep an eye each month and make sure things are as fair as we can get them and still let you guys have fun and let EVERYONE read what they like to read!! :)

message 33: by Suzy (new)

Suzy Kennedy | 345 comments Thanks Trisha!

That makes total sense. I love this revival of the dares! I found 2 books in my library that take place in Ontario and I didn't even know I had them because of the dare. I thought almost no books take place here I line and I have 2 sitting in my bedroom :)

How cool is that! :o)

message 35: by Trisha, lives on coffee (new)

Trisha | 30284 comments I'm so glad you are loving it Suzy! I am too, I can't lie! I always loved this challenge!

and with the added twist of removing the ones that aren't used and adding new ones will, hopefully, keep it fun and new every month!

how awesome! I love discovering books that are set in the location I know! I hope they are good ones!

message 36: by Trinity (new)

Trinity Woohoo! I love that this is back :D I'm about to go look through them again and see which ones I plan to do this month!

message 37: by Vicki (new)

Vicki (goodreadscomboobooper49) | 31156 comments I agree, Trinity! It's a FANTASTIC way to decide what to read and, if you attempt every dare, it will help broaden the genres you read. I have had fun just looking for books to fit all of the categories. It's served as an impetus to get some books read that have been on my TBR shelf. I think the idea to have move the dares around each month by deleting one and adding a new one is going to help keep this one alive!

message 38: by Trinity (new)

Trinity Agreed! I'm excited to see the news ones that will be added. It is a lot of fun looking for books to fit the category, I love going through my library catalog to see which fits. :)

I know! In fact, I'm reading one of the VERY first books on my shelf that I added in 2012. LOL

Mandiann (goodreadscommandiann) | 6882 comments What happens if I don't finish a dare this month (Like my chunkster book). Can I finish it and count it for August or does the book need to be started in August?

message 41: by Trisha, lives on coffee (new)

Trisha | 30284 comments Yes, you can finish it for August. whenever you finish it, you can post completed. No worries about when your original post was :)

especially those chunksters, lol! most are too long just for 30 days!

I read a LOT during the read-a-thon and then nothing. LOL My sister was put in ICU and then I got sick with an ear infection and reading went by the wayside.
