Matt (mias_beck) I bought two versions of a Kindle book (The Tin Drum in German and English) and I wonder if it is possible (and how) to two start two instances of the Kindle App for Windows at the same time. I'd like to see the German and English version of the book side by side to compare the original text with the translation.

[Sorry if this the wrong forum for this kind of question, but it was the best I could find here on GR]

YouKneeK Hi Matt, I’m sorry, I don’t have a definite answer for you and I don’t currently have the app on my computer in order to play around with it. It may depend which version you’re using. If you’re using the Windows 8 app, my guess is that the answer is no since the metro apps seem to be limited to a single instance.

With normal applications (as opposed to metro apps), however, you can often open multiple instances of them from your task bar by shift+clicking on their icon. For example, if I have Firefox open on my computer, I can shift+click on the Firefox icon in my task bar and it opens a brand new instance while still leaving the original instance open. This doesn’t seem to work on everything (it doesn’t work on Calibre, for example), but it has worked on most applications I’ve tried to use it on.

Matt (mias_beck) Thanks YouKneeK! I'm using the App on Windows 7. I tried to start it via shift+click, but it didn't work. My guess is, that the Kindle App is limited to one instance.
I found another way though. I can start the Kindle cloud reader (read.amazon.com or lesen.amazon.de in my case) in different browsers. By arranging the browser window on my desktop I get what I want :)
