Peter | 153 comments Looking back, I think I enjoyed this book a lot more then I initially thought. All the non-Malazan language (e.g. holds) confused the heck outta me though. Didn't even realize it was because of the geography difference until now when you brought it up. (x

Peter | 153 comments Ah yeah that was a question I had as well and was wondering if anyone knew how far out we are from the rest of the series when this stuff goes down?

They don't even have a hold of Death - it's not created until this section when the Azath tower dies and Kettle tells the Ceda that a new hold has been born. She says a guy told her - who had many lovers, male and female - but we don't learn his name. I am thinking the Queen's consort? So when Kettle says the throne will be occupied - is it Hood?

This book starts in year 1159 of Burns Sleep . GotM starts in year 1163 of Burns Sleep.

Erikson really really likes the word susurrate/susurration and all its derivations :P I dont think i've seen that word in print more times in my entire life than i've seen it reading malazan.

So every time they thank/curse Errant, they are talking about the Fokrul Assail?

Nice to see other races (and Malazans!) mentioned in this part of the book - Fokrul Assail, Jaghut, T'lan Imass. For all the greed/progress the Lethari exhibit (contrasted to the "backwards looking" Tiste Edur), the Lethari still seem like a bunch of isolated country bumpkins.

Was that a clock developed by Icarium on the bridge the Tiste Edur contest with the Lethari advanced forces?

Which tribe of T'lan Imass I wonder do the Tiste Edur pass over?

Eres'al is the Nerek goddess. Kettle's mom is named Eres - is there a connection? But Kettles' soul is Fokrul Assail?

So Udinaas was raped by Daughter Dawn, who travels through time, and meets his child in the warren of Starvald Demelain?

I like Udinaas's revelation - "If one could always choose the right questions, then every answer could be as obvious"

The Malazans are a welcome site. Not sure what an Avowed is or what power it gives him, but they can certainly kick some ass..

At this point I am pretty sure Bugg must be an Ascendant. Given his knowledge, hinted powers, and the quote where he says he hates to be worshiped.

Peter | 153 comments Dang Sky you're really burning through this book now!

:) It took a while to get into it, but now I am fully committed. Hope to be done by tomorrow or Thurs at the latest.
