It will be interesting to see what happens next season.

The fact that she spoke to him in Danish and checked whether he understood actually reinforces the theory. Like I said though, I only believe it sometimes. Could just be them setting up that possibility for next season.

I'm prepared to believe Elliot has more than one split personality, but Tyrell is not one of them. A swedish talking, sociopathic, high level executive of a multi-national company would be too much of a stretch.
I think Tyrell is more than he seems, so is Joanna, and will be central to the next season.
I expect to have an episode next season that goes back and shows what happened in those missing 3 days before Elliot wakes up in Tyrell's car.

Ok, is anyone still watching this? This was one of my favourite shows last year.
After a great first season I am not loving Season 2. It's so depressing. I realise the main character suffers from depression, but I feel like we are getting dragged down with him. The whole show is depressing.
I'll watch it through to the end of the season, but it is going to have to improve a lot for me to go on to Season 3, if there is one.
So disappointing. Not as big a fall as "True Detective" took from S1 to S2, but a fall nonetheless.

I'm in the same boat. I thought the last episode of season 1 was a bummer and this season has been more of the same. I'm hoping after the end of episode 4 things will finally pick up again.
The story has just been so slow. It feels like nothing has really happened, and we're just stuck with Elliot inside his head for the last 5 episodes.

I loved the first two episodes. But 3 was just too much internal madness. Also, why is Angela even a character on this show? She started out meaning something to our Narrator, but as she herself said the s1 finale, they're basically strangers, now.

i'm hoping that once Tyrell comes back it will pick up.
Everyone seems to be having a crisis. I'm hoping the last few scenes of Episode 4 are a sign things are starting to head in some direction other than down.

In last week's episode I refer as init1, there was a 80's style slasher movie shown that is the origin of the mask fsociety wears. This is called The Careful Massacre of the Bourgeosie. It looks like it's been released as a < 10 minute film.

Am typing on iPad so don't know if above link can work.
I'm still watching. I meant to go back and rewatch the first season before delving into season 2 but I ran out of time. I feel more pulled in to his mental turmoil this season and it's rough. I feel like I don't know what's real, in fact I question more than he does. The friend at the diner? The guy with the dog? What the heck. The last episode was hard because some of it was flashback and some was present day and I couldn't easily distinguish for some reason so I felt dumb.

All that is missing is Samuel L. Jackson. :)

As far as the sidekick philosophers, though, aren't ALL the characters doing that? Even Evil Corp's CEO is self-help guru-ing his old ass off.

"The self-help theme is hilarious but I mean more of the use of black characters only in the role of wise sage... it's a criticism often thrown at feature films and for some reason this season it's been sticking out more to me. I think a community of hackers and near future 20 somethings would be pretty racially diverse.

Edited after I read your follow up post.
I think the problem is more this season we're stuck in Elliot's head, right now, and he's (been) cut off from everyone else. I think we'll see more from a lot of those characters as the season goes on.

Last year, it was a strength of the show. That's why I'm puzzled by the move to the perhaps imaginary philosophers. It's okay if you don't agree with me, it's just what came up in my house after the last episode.

Very very good point. So taken from that perspective, perhaps (if they are imaginary, which I just don't know) Elliot needs people who are unlike him in order to trust them. That has a lot of merit, actually.
Other strangenesses - the blond woman. First she seems powerful and then she seems weak. That's an interesting development and I do not know what the eCorp guy is playing at. I felt like I knew (assuming she was right) but now....
The woman who was married to the Danish guy, I just don't understand how it plays into anything anymore. And her boytoy. Is it a "yay we can show sex" move or is it deeper?

Martin Wallström (Tyrell) is Swedish. The actress who plays his wife, Joanna, is Danish (Stephanie Corneliussen)

I'm not a fan of Angela.
She never seemed powerful to me. Brittle, but playing it to the bone. She risked her job on that scheduling gambit. It worked out, but you can see how close a thing it was.
I can't figure out whether CEO is trying to turn her into him, or to humiliate her.

This week's episode is more like it. So much for stuff.
I feel like the stuff in the first four could have been condensed into 2. I guess we'll see if I feel different at the end of the season.

I agree, this week was much better and that last few minutes has me excited for next week.
One scene had me confused though. Why would the Chinese politician let the FBI agent know about his cross dressing secret?
We will have to wait and see I suppose.
and can we have Tyrell. They keep putting the actor's name in the opening credits and he still hasn't appeared.

Yeah, I was really confused by that scene as well, but (view spoiler)
Yeah, I feel like the Tyrell thing has been dragged out way too much..
I mean GoT only made people wait 2 episodes..

Tassie Dave wrote: "One scene had me confused though. He is learning about the one member who might have the ability to pierce the Dark Army veil. She may be a danger, And the only one not caring about anything but the truth in the team. A truth the minister cannot reveal. So he shows her a truth that he can live with.
The attack that happens after this, and in a society as controlled as the Chinese shows this as a targeted hit. Dom is in great danger. Either physically or socially she will be thrust into spotlight and might not survive.
I thought China was similar to Korea, and used "brother" and "sister" pretty loosely for friends, even for others in a relationship (short of marriage). Her whole "he doesn't have a sister" just struck me as ill informed.

That opening section probably sounded great on paper, but in reality not so much.
and ALF FFS :-?
They pulled me back in last week. Then pushed me back out again this week.

Honestly I'm starting to think this whole season is just wtf-ery. I've been giving it a lot of chances, trusting it to build into something, but it's all style over substance.

Last season it was general social stability with computers and hacking turning into psychological drama and social chaos, and this season it's turning from psychological drama back to hacking, with added violence and it's still chaotic. It's just taking so long to develop. Very rough to keep in a bad mental state.

It could have been shortened. The whole episode really did not change a thing.
I do wonder if Elliott/Mr Robot has dropped a time bomb into the dark web marketplace he migrated. One that needs a reset to keep from exposing it.
Either way Angela has problems. And a dark army soldier she might throw under the bus.
Ugh... did anyone ever see Limitless? I felt like the sign that show was over was an increasing number of theme episodes. I was not happy to see one on Mr. Robot. But I think I think Louis says it best, nothing changed in that episode, nothing was revealed, nothing moved forward. Still waiting for the next thing to happen.

... We're not seriously supposed to think a Dallas ending to this season was edgy or interesting, were we?

The whole unreliable narrator hit really badly and it's mid season. I can see why many are angry. It's been hard figuring this season out, and everything you know about Elliot is suspect. But why is he in? I think he was taken in for his insanity, and the officials don't know he's a hacker. He might be pre-trial or under psychiatric observation, so access to a computer and the Internet might be allowed.

But there are scenes like the basement that make less sense as Elliot would miss the bed count. And what about Mr. Rat Pony tail?
Aaaargh!
Okay so I remember one time where his sister asked him "have you seen mom" and I was confused, thinking he was living with her. So that was a clue. I guess. And this explains a lot about the new characters that were there at the same time every day.

And is White Rose real?) and what exactly is the point of the single rich mom at home? Sigh.

I haven't read this article yet because I'm an episode behind, but perhaps the existence of interweaving easter eggs will improve this season?

I stopped watching after Handshake. That article's not spoiler-y at all though. All it says is that IP address go somewhere, but no plot details or anything. Wouldn't worry about being spoiled.
 Spoiler free =)
Spoiler free =)So I have really liked both seasons as a whole... but still the finales have been a bit lackluster. For season 1, great start and a lot of fun but the twist was a bit predictable. I'm very happy to say season 2 was fantastic - I really liked nearly every episode and there were certainly aspects I didn't see coming, but again the finale left me a bit lacking... not necessarily a problem, maybe the drama was just built up so much from the previous episodes that I felt a little let down but I'm curious to hear what others think.

(view spoiler)[Someone translated what she said to Elliot, and it was something like 'If you hurt him I'll kill you'.
I just don't buy her saying that if they are really the same person.
You could argue that she'd hurt the Elliot personality if she felt like it killed off her husband's personality but that seems like a huge stretch to me. (hide spoiler)]
