Chrizette | 906 comments I have been part of Goodreads for many years but today was the first time that I received a comment on one of my ratings telling me that my rating system is flawed because I gave a book 3 stars (and he is not the author). I have told him that according to Goodreads 3 stars means I liked it but I am feeling a bit as if someone insulted me . . .

Wow... he is most likely a buddy of the author. But I don't think your system is flawed. We all (mostly) follow Goodreads explanation for the ratings and I think it's quite clear (for those who actually use Goodreads a lot).

To me, a three rating is above average. Because 2's mean that it was okay, or I like to say, meh. Why should he have a problem with that?

Lauren Smith What a stupid comment. We're not giving out official hotel ratings. I agree with Janice – probably a friend of the author's.

Chrizette | 906 comments I have looked him up and he is "listed" as an author. Wonder if he comments on his own books' reviews too . . .

It's best just to ignore people like that. The perception out there is that anything below 4 stars means that the book is 'bad' (which is obviously not the case).

Yolanda Ramos (yramosseventhsentinel) I can't understand why some authors think that they should only get 4 or 5 star reviews. I think all ratings are subjective, and rather than complain about low ratings, which a 3 is most definitely not, authors should learn from what people say about their books, especially if many are saying the same thing. Just ignore that person, its not worth your time or your angst. My two cents worth.

You would think people would have learned by now to not leave such comments. People like that go on my never to read list. Imagine if you gave his book 3 stars. Some people need to remove themselves from reviewer opinions and never look at it.

Chrizette | 906 comments This is so "irking" me that I am considering just deleting his comment . . . :)
