Lauren (laurenjberman) | 584 comments I usually use the web version of Goodreads on both my computer and iPad because the app is very glitchy.

I just tried the app on my phone and it took about half a minute to load. It looks fine and I see all three of my currently reading books.

🐝 Shaz 🐝 | 1240 comments I also used the web site. That has problems too.

It not showing this year’s challenges. Have to press the more button. Then the information comes up for 24. But my books count is wrong . I have to go into more on each challenge then go to my book shelf to see if they are on there and then go back for them to show the right results .🤦‍♀️
.

message 1103: by Cath (new)

Cath | 370 comments I had a glitch years ago (some shelves had disappeared and did not reappear after I logged out and in several times) and I had to go to "Help" to get someone to add them back (not the same prob you have, I know - but my point is it might be something on their end that they can fix)

So, maybe try (on website):
go down to very very bottom of page and click on "Help"
then --> click "My Account" and then on the "My Account" page at the top --> click on the tab "Questions and Answers"

From there you could scan the top Q&As to see if any apply (I do see down at the bottom on my view of that page that there is a question about "reading challenge for 2024 not accepting books" [not sure if that's a match for the problem you are describing?])

...or if you can't find your problem already listed, then click on "contact us" button (my view has it on the top right) and then describe your problem and it might be something they can fix on their end.

I agree with Cath. This sounds like an issue with your book page specifically. The Help people may be able to fix the issue, especially the incorrect book count (which often needs to be corrected).

There is even a special thread for fixing that - Shelf Reset Request Thread

message 1105: by Missy (new)

Missy | 1485 comments Oh, no! I'm sorry to hear that, Shaz. It can be irritating/frustrating. Everything seems to be working fine on my end. I hope GR can fix the issue.

🐝 Shaz 🐝 | 1240 comments I will see if it right it’s self. Fingers crossed 🤞. I am hopeless with technology.
But if it’s still the same by weekend. I will have to try what Cath suggests and the shelf reset.

Thank you ladies. Advice much appreciated.

Oprah Daily have released the 30 best romance novels of all time. Quite a few old favorites here https://www.oprahdaily.com/entertainm...

Interesting to see Tessa Dare's A Week to Be Wicked at #1. This was the first 'modern' historical romance novel that I read, and it has led to a whole new genre of reading for me.

Jan (jan130) | 2701 comments Thanks for sharing, Susan. An interesting list, and I have downloaded a few kindle samples of some I haven't read :) I like that there are quite a few HRs in there too.

what's your thoughts about Oprah's list, shared by Susan? Pride & Prejudice in 4th?! Hummm, I don't know, but definitely I have to add some books to my TBR

message 1115: by Lauren (new)

Lauren (laurenjberman) | 584 comments I've read 15 of the books on the list and some others are on my TBR.

While I agree that there are excellent books on the list ("Burn for Me", "Nine Rules...", "P&P", "The Viscount...") others are meh - Courtney Milan's "Duchess War" has plotting issues, and "The Kiss Quotient" has several problematic portrayals of consent and autism.

Moreover, these same authors have better books than the ones mentioned. For instance, "Vision in White" is far from being one of Nora's best works.

Finally, several better books were left off the list - "The Hating Game", "When Beauty Tamed the Beast" "The Bollywood Affair", "The Duke of Shadows" and many others.

It proves once again that celebrity lists are not all that.

I don't agree also in all that choices, it's strange only 2 classics as best romances of 30 Greatest Romance Novels to Read in Your Lifetime...

Yes, I liked that too although I enjoyed The Wolf and the Dove more.

It appears they chose books non-romance readers would at least be familiar with. I am sure they did not consult actual romance readers.

It appears so! :(

🐝 Shaz 🐝 | 1240 comments Just been away for a week on a coaching trip. Visiting the historic towns of Bath, Bristol and Wells.
Bath was nice with its Regency buildings, including Royal Crescent .
Well’s is a lovely place, with the Bishop Palace. Where we seen the Swans and their baby signets , ringing the bell to get some food. Really cute as the older swans, have learned the little ones to do it.
The architecture in the cathedral was amazing . It was built in 1174 to the 1400. Medieval. The workmanship is unbelievable, when you think of the tools they had in them days. It also has the oldest street that is still lived in, which was built 650 years ago.
Bristol has lots of regency and medieval architecture and Bristol harbour with old ships. The Cathedral used to be an Abbey built in 1100.

Good week with plenty of walking . Just what a historical reader needs to go back in time. Especially when you are reading a historical book , between visits 📚😂

🐝 Shaz 🐝 | 1240 comments Thank you Oleander.
Been to Bath 3 times, so there probably won’t be a next time.
Definitely worth going back to Wells. Lovely place , well worth another visit. Only small but it’s nice.

🐝 Shaz 🐝 | 1240 comments Yes it was a lovely historical trip. With lots of lovely architecture. It’s unbelievable how they could create such beautiful buildings.

message 1132: by Mariana (new)

Mariana | 2692 comments Shaz, your trip sounds amazing! I'm planning to spend a week in Devon in November. It looks like those may be doable day trips since I plan to rent a car and drive.

🐝 Shaz 🐝 | 1240 comments Wells is lovely. You can get a £20 ticket combined , to enter the Cathedral and Bishops Palace. Vicars close is nice and next to the cathedral.

Bath is also lovely. As we have been in the Cathedral and Roman Bath before, we never went in this time . But I was told by another person on our trip, that she could not get in the Baths. As now you need to book on line for the Roman Baths and it’s £25 each. Which I think is scandalous.
Do hope you like your visit, if you manage to get there.

message 1134: by Merry (new)

Merry (jewelhound) | 857 comments Shaz how wonderful. We took a day trip by train to Bath when we were in London a couple years ago as a spur of the moment. We had tea at the Pump Room and the Cathedral was wonderful. Alas it was cold and rainy so limited what we did. Your tour sounds fantastic.

Ahahah, and the covers, most times have nothing to do with the book...

message 1143: by Merry (new)

Merry (jewelhound) | 857 comments I think self published authors take more care in their covers (perhaps have more control). With the Big publishers the cover is not remotely like the story characters. You read where the heroine is full figured and the cover model looks anorexic.
