Happy New Year!! I'm sorry I had been a awful mod this last few months, a lot of work, almost no time to read (I'm taking months to read a book!!!) but I hope 2023 will be a lot better!!

And yes Romance Across the Ages will came back I'm just trying to figure it out how to do it, but Joanna is helping me out, sorry for the delay!

the fact that Z-Library went down doesn't help either... so sad about that... still

Happy New Year 2023!

Dedicating your time when you are busiest does not make you am awful mod. It means you are dedicated. We all go through times when we can read more or less. I had a harder time reading as much and did not participate in RATA or the mountain climbing challenge in 2022 due to lack of time. We'll see how this year goes. :)

Thanks, Mariana, I am awful, mainly because I'm not helping the other mods very much, but I'll try better this year! ;)

Hmmm. Hadn't heard that. On a hiatus from writing, perhaps? And what has happened to Lisa Kleypas? No new books, and her FB hasn't even been updated since March 2021. That's nearly 2 years..... :(

No I hadn't seen that. Many authors seem to have stopped writing during the pandemic. Julia Quinn and Tessa Dare also haven't had new books for ages.

I feel like I've been waiting for that forth book in Dare's latest series for ever. I know she had some health issues though

Me too! The publication date keeps getting pushed back, although she said that she finished the book and this is the publisher's decision. I cannot see the logic in it, though.

This is actually the reason I went to Hoyt's site (only to find it has gone dark) as the third Greycourt book is also being pushed back.

I hope she’s ok. I saw recently that even established authors are having trouble getting multi book deals. Another factor that maybe driving them out.

Mamacita aka MawMaw (mamawantsbedtimestory) | 417 comments I was wondering about LK & TD too. I feel like there has been a ton of authors not coming back after covid. That or they just abandoned a series even tho they were supposedly still working on it & just went to a new series. (that part pisses me off a bit) Mostly they are more regular romance & some indie authors that I was looking at but yeah. So sad because they were some of my favorites.

It's a spin-off of the series but doesn't really have any connection to the books. So that's how I am going to relate to it - as separate.

Topastro | 53 comments Just did a massive TBR clean out. I went from 320 some books on my to read shelf to 170. I was pretty ruthless when deleting, it was getting so overwhelming to sort through and find a book.

Does any one else like a tidy TBR shelf?

sometimes. i tend to attempt it when I'm doing a big spring clean. but i have done similar.

message 977: by Missy (new)

Missy | 1485 comments I've deleted a few Mary Balogh books. It was hard, but I rationalized that she's a popular author, so I can always find her books whenever I'm in need; there's no need to add all of her books to my TBR.

If I can't remember why I added a book in the first place (after reading the blurb), I might delete it.

Missy | 1485 comments Last weekend, I watched a Netflix series called The Law According to Lidia Poet. True events about the first female Italian lawyer inspired the series. It takes place in 1883 and her dresses in this show are gorgeous.

There are 6 episodes (around 50 minutes each). In each episode, she solves a murder mystery. Original audio is Italian, but I switched it to English when I watched it. English subtitles are available if you choose to stick to the Italian audio.

Viewing caution: The show is rated TV-MA and the trailer shows partial nudity and sex.

🐝 Shaz 🐝 | 1240 comments Before I watch Queen Charlotte. I thought it could be a spin off flop.
I have watched the first 3 episodes, and have quite liked it.
It always shows that when you are watching a program and it seems to have ended rather quick. That you are enjoying it.

message 988: by Missy (new)

Missy | 1485 comments That sounds promising, Shaz. I'm waiting till summer vacation to watch it.

🐝 Shaz 🐝 | 1240 comments Hope you like queen Charlotte, when you get around to watching it Missy.
I will watch the next 3 on Sunday.

Still waiting for the next Bridgertons series.

Another series about Cleopatra has started on Netflix . Will have a look at that one after Charlotte.

message 990: by Lauren (new)

Lauren | 1425 comments I just finished watching Queen Charlotte yesterday. It's a nice love story, though, I wish I didn't know so much history about King George III because it ruined some of the fictional story. The younger version of Lady Dambury was fantastic, and I adored the last scene in the show. Brilliantly done!

I hope you both enjoy the show!

I watched it too and I really enjoyed it! I think I liked Queen Charlotte more than Bridgerton 2...

message 992: by Lauren (new)

Lauren | 1425 comments I'm glad you enjoyed Queen Charlotte, Sandra!. I still prefer Bridgerton bc they're fictional characters, and my historical knowledge isn't beaming in, taking me out of the story.

I thought it was funny how young her children were in the series. They even made Prinny thin. Queen Victoria's father was 50 when she was born. I still don't understand why the Queen didn't force her children to marry before the age of 40. Does anybody know why? You would think they would have been betrothed at birth. My God

Queen Charlotte died only a year after Princess Charlotte's death. so who know, if she even knew.

Lauren, I did some investigation but not because of that, I was curious about king George. That's a good question indeed. Despite sometimes, she talked with the daughters like they were already married, just childless...

Lauren (laurenjberman) | 584 comments Lauren wrote: "It's a nice love story, though, I wish I didn't know so much history about King George III because it ruined some of the fictional story.

This is actually one of the reasons I am hesitant to watch. George III and Queen Charlotte had a tremendous real-life romance, but both ended up suffering greatly due to his illness. It is so sad that by the end of his life, he didn't remember her at all and had no idea that she had died.

message 996: by Lauren (new)

Lauren | 1425 comments I guess the mystery stays for awhile.

Lauren, I felt the same way. It's was still a good little romance. But you have to just go with it. You might like it. I liked the younger Mrs
Danbury. I also wished they showed how great a king George was instead of an incompetent crazy man.

message 997: by Sandra (new)

Sandra Moreira | 1121 comments Mod
Lauren(s), I thought the same, but I think it missed the part between the first period of the marriage to the end itself, so they didn't explored the ruling period of the King and how she became the ruling queen. Maybe things for another season, don't you think?!

message 998: by Debby *BabyDee* (new)

Debby *BabyDee* | 812 comments Finally watched Queen Charlotte and it was very good. I loved the younger Lady Danbury in the story and also wished they would have shown the good parts of George III.
