sara (readerjuppi) Lauren, that's literally me! I got a Kindle last month and I went from having read 2 books to 30 :D I also joined this group and it definitely made me read more with all the BOTM.

Shaz, I completely understand that - I started reading a book in December and didn't finish it until Feb/March :/ I hit a big reading slump. I'm so glad you're into reading now! great hobby

🐝 Shaz 🐝 | 1240 comments I don't know if I will be able to do as much reading this week. We bought a camper van Feb /20 to do some touring . Well lockdown started March/20. The camping site have just been aloud to open. So we have got our walking gear ready, and are off to the Lake District. We are looking forward to seeing some nice scenery. Hoping the sun will shine. We have our wet gear, as rain will not stop us from our time away in the lovely British Country Side. Just hope our little Dachshund can keep up with us, or my husband will be carrying him LOL

Enjoy Shaz! Sounds great!

Merry (jewelhound) | 857 comments Shaz that sounds like such fun. We had two Weiner dogs that I just loved so much that when they passed we haven't wanted to get another. I had another batch of library books arrive so am working my way through them. We are going to the ocean for a few days so I am hoping to soak up some sun and read.

Merry (jewelhound) | 857 comments Has anyone noticed the trend in Silhouette title covers. I do think they are cute. Is it just because I noticed them that I am seeing them everywhere.

message 562: by Missy (new)

Missy | 1485 comments Yes, I’ve noticed. If I ever buy a paperback copy of an HR, it would be less embarrassing to buy one with a silhouette cover.

message 563: by Merry (new)

Merry (jewelhound) | 857 comments The challenging ones are the Fabio style cover that have women with skirts up to thigh and stocking showing in the hero's embrace. I had read something about what your mentioned @Missy

Ohh, that's a good idea! The one about the combine shelves I also discovered by chance, when I has playingin in the browser. I usually use the app and it doesn't have a almost none of the features in the browser.

I signed up for storygraph bc I am always looking for a better experience. Unfortunately, the crowd sourcing here if quotes, the reviews, and the communities work better. I do wish they would update UI. But storygraph didn't have much for me

On the other hand, I love library thing. It's easy to search by main characters etc and they are trying to add tagging so if a book is likely to be xyz + abc. Drawback there is romance community is tiny.

Is library thing part of StoryGraph?

Opposite of you, I am really reluctant to try out new social media!

Nope! It's more a cataloguing site. Much less social media-esque.

My social media is only books basically!!

Missy | 1485 comments It looks nice and easy to navigate, but I've already established my book shelves and friends here. It seems too much work to start all over again. lol Thanks for sharing. It's nice to know there are other options out there for book lovers.

message 575: by Sandra (new)

Sandra Moreira | 1121 comments Mod
From what I've seen you can export your book shelves to SG but it seems that doesn't have a community of friends like GR and that is bad. I'm just exploring and I really like the design of SG.

I'm looking for some good historical romance novellas and need your excellent recommendations! Bring them on. I know the holidays are coming, but I'm not necessarily interested in holiday novellas. Bring on all your recs. 19th century preferred, please. Anthologies also welcome.
Thanks guys!

Jan (jan130) | 2701 comments I liked both novellas in The Windham Ducal Duet: Ther Courtship / The Duke and His Duchess by Grace Burrowes. They are prequels to the Windham series, and the second novella follows on after the first one. I think they are Georgian era rather than Regency though.
The Windham Ducal Duet Ther Courtship / The Duke and His Duchess by Grace Burrowes

Once Upon A Dream by Mary Balogh. Particularly nice if you've read the Bedwyn series, but I believe could stand alone.
Once Upon A Dream (Bedwyn Saga, #6.5) by Mary Balogh

A Matter of Class by Mary Balogh, which has a nice little twist in the plotline. (Recent BOTM).
A Matter of Class by Mary Balogh

Jennifer Ashley has several decent novellas as part of her Mackenzies and McBrides series e.g. Scandal And The Duchess was a good one. Victorian era.
Scandal And The Duchess (Mackenzies & McBrides, #6.5) by Jennifer Ashley

Some Christmas themed ones:
A Wallflower Christmas by Lisa Kleypas.
A Wallflower Christmas (Wallflowers, #4.5) by Lisa Kleypas

A Holiday by Gaslight by Mimi Matthews. Victorian era. A clean read.
A Holiday by Gaslight by Mimi Matthews

thank you Jan, these sound like a great place to start. I haven't read many novellas. Having read the Bedwyn series I think I'd like those and I like Jennifer Ashley. I don't think you can go wrong with Lisa Kleypas.

Well poo, the Bedwyn one isn't available anymore. I'll have to check the library.

Sometimes I'm just in the mood for a nice, short and satisfying read where everything gets wrapped up in a short space.

If you have read the Bedwyns and liked Slightly Dangerous, this one is about Christine's unmarried sister who had lost her fiancé at war years ago. You do get a nice little revisit with Wulf and Christine too :)

Hope you find something you enjoy.

Some of my favorites:
A Kiss for Midwinter
Her Every Wish
Night of the Scoundrel -- might work better after reading the series, hard
Once a Fallen Lady -- really should read Falling for a Rake first, though. I think you would love both.

Also, most Caroline Linden ones, but I know I don't need to tell you that, lol.

A couple anthologies, I've enjoyed:
Four Weddings and a Sixpence: An Anthology - really fun in audio
At the Christmas Wedding
Dressed to Kiss

A couple that are bit away from what you asked.
Promised Land - this is part of an anthology Hamilton's Battalion: A Trio of Romances but I still haven't read the others. I mean to do so!
The Companion - this one is poly romance featuring trans characters, not sure if that would interest you at all, but it was really lovely and quiet and safe.

Hi, guys!!

How do you register your readings? Only in GR or also in paper? If you register and follow your readings in paper, do you use a Book Journal or other kind of register, if not will you consider doing it?

Thanks,
Sandra

🐝 Shaz 🐝 | 1240 comments I just keep track of my books on GR. This seems to work for me.

These are fabulous! Thank you Joanna! Oooo, I have audible credits burning a hole in my pocket. I may just get that anthology. It has 2 authors I've never read.

Why have I never read Caroline Linden's novellas? LOL
