Zadignose | 43 comments I would like to combine the following books:

The Colloquy of the Old Men: Acallam Na Senorach
Tales of the Elders of Ireland

They are translations of the same text, done by different translators. The technical problem that I am facing is that they are published under different titles, by different translators, and the only author they have in common is "Anonymous." Because there are many many pages of books by anonymous, and the titles don't share any good search words, I can't bring them together on one page in order to combine editions. If I select one, then search for the other and select that one, then when I "combine," the engine thinks I'm combining only 1 book, and notifies me that I must select at least 2 editions to combine.

Kathy | 233 comments Zadignose, if you go to the Anonymous author page, you have the option to search for title keywords. The results will come up in alphabetical order, which will allow you to find all the Anonymous books beginning with "Colloquy" or "Acallam." If you search for the entire title (which you'd need to do for the second example), be sure to put it in quotation marks so the search engine looks for all the words together.

This assumes, of course, that these books contain exactly the same text despite having different titles.

Zadignose | 43 comments Thanks, but I'm afraid I'm unable to follow the advice you've given.

I go to the Anonymous author page, then:

I can search for one of the books, and that's fine. I can search for the other book, and that's fine. But I can't do a search that brings up both books on the same page. Being unable to do that, I cannot select both books in order to do the combine.

Also, the books don't contain exactly the same text in English, but they are translations of the same original Middle-Irish text, which I understand qualifies them to be combined as editions of the same original work.

Elizabeth (Alaska) Can you change the author to something like "temp temp" and then combine them? Then you can go back and change the author to Anonymous. They should stay combined.

Zadignose | 43 comments Ah! I hadn't thought of that. That should work!

Zadignose | 43 comments Yeah, that worked out perfectly. Thanks.

Elizabeth (Alaska) Great!

Paula (paulaan) | 7014 comments You would normally add the same word to both titles, I always use my initials pja the search on that word or combination and the combine as search will show both.
