It seems like everyone these days is suffering from something. Here we can commiserate and support each other. :)

On a more serious note, I'm so sorry for all of you with health problems. :)

Hi, my name is Jaye and I have Celiac Disease, Gastroparesis, and am allergic to wheat, plus I have a potato, tomato, and egg intolerance. (I couldn't resist starting like that, lol!)

But anyway, the question of my life seems to be, "What can you eat?" Thankfully, gluten free food is getting much more common, and I can still eat some potatoes and tomatoes once in a while.

And if you're wondering what gastroparesis is, it's stomach paralysis. My stomach doesn't empty like it should. The only thing really available for it is a temporary pill with horrible potential side effects. I took one look at the TWO pages worth of side effects that came with it and decided no way. Instead, I rub on frankincense essential oil every night before bed, and almost a year into doing that, I do not have any trouble with it at all. Most of the time I don't even remember I have it. So yay for natural remedies!! :D

Kendra Ardnek | 541 comments Yes, yay for natural remedies! I use lemongrass to help my own allergies to milk. BTW, which brand of Essential Oils do you use?

Jaye Knight (jayelknight) | 389 comments Mod
We use a lot of Now brand oils. I think my frankincense oil is Plant Therapy.

Amanda Beguerie (amandabeguerie) | 467 comments *solemnly* Hi, Jaye. (XD)

Oh, my word! Ouchie! That's good though, that you found a natural remedy :)

Hello, my name is Amanda. I suffer from lactose intolerance, possibly chocolate intolerance, and I get horrible upset stomachs if I eat dairy. (I tend to just deal with it, though, because dairy is delicious.)
I might be gluten intolerant, because it saps my energy and sometimes gives me a stomachache. I dunno.

My brother has GAPS, which is Gut and Psychology Syndrome. It links autism and psychological problems to the stomach, when you have sick bacteria in your stomach, preventing proper digestion and affecting psychology and mental and physical disorders. This includes everything from autism to schizophrenia to depression. So he has to eat mostly meat, broth, fruits, vegetables, and nuts. He can't have dairy, grain, starch (like potatoes), soy, or sugar (excluding honey or fruit sugar).

Oh, and speaking of essential oils, I use Vitacost brand peppermint oil to get rid of headaches. They're gone almost instantly once I rub a few drops on my neck.

Kendra Ardnek | 541 comments Hello, my name is Kendra. I'm sensitive to dairy, and never developed a taste for it, so it's only annoying when it comes to ice cream and pizza.

I'm also ADHD, which makes life interesting.

I use a lot of Now oils, though lately we've been making the switch to DoTerra, which is the leading and most natural brand out there. My aunt is a consultant for them, and I'm looking into becoming one myself.

message 8: by Amanda (new)

Amanda Beguerie (amandabeguerie) | 467 comments @Kendra
Ouch. But it's a good thing that you aren't addicted to dairy, I suppose. Pizza and ice cream...oh, they get me every time.

@Shantelle
Oh my! That sounds horrible! (Yes, leaky gut thing...my brother probably has that too.)
No children, oh no. But with God, all things are possible! (And adoption is possible too :)) I'll definitely be praying for you. <3

message 9: by Merenwen (new)

Merenwen Inglorion | 106 comments Agh, all of your guys' allergies sound terrible. Hooray for everyone that's found ways around them. ^.^

@Shantelle: No kids?! O-o

I'll be praying for all of you. :) (I always feel kind of weird when random people say that, so sorry if me saying that makes you feel the same way. :))

My mom uses essential oils from Young Living. They've worked really well. Although it is my personal opinion that a few of them smell like something completely different from their titles. ;)

Tim Hawkins, on side effects. (I reference lots of TH stuff. It's just so relevant to everyday life. ;P)

message 10: by Lynn (new)

Lynn (queendragonfyre) | 5 comments When I was a kid, I had strep throat after strep throat infection until I was 1 away from having my tonsils out. The doctor ran a ton of tests but couldn't figure out why until she tested me for allergies - we found out I was allergic to both wheat and dairy. I had Dream (I think that was the brand) rice milk on my cereal every day for 6 years, until I actually outgrew my allergies. Now the only thing I'm allergic to is pineapple (totally random, but my mom's allergic to it, too, so I guess I came by it honestly).

I can't imagine being allergic to other things, too, all at once - especially chocolate. O.O *gives everyone hugs* But I remember how hard it was to avoid all those foods with wheat/dairy - it's like they're in EVERYTHING. -_- Definitely keeping all of you in my thoughts and prayers!

@Amanda: My mom and I both get headaches a lot, and we're always looking for something to help. If I may ask, how much of the peppermint oil (and do other brands work, or does it have to be that particular brand?), do you dilute it with anything, and on what part of the neck do you apply it? Thank you in advance!

message 11: by Amanda (new)

Amanda Beguerie (amandabeguerie) | 467 comments @Lynn
Oh! It's really not that complicated. I usually just put a little on a cotton ball (as if it's nail polish remover or something), and then put it on the back of my neck to my hairline, behind my ears, or whatever. It is strong, so be careful not to get it in your eyes. (My brother and I accidentally did it too close to our eyes once, and they stung really badly for a while!) It's not really specific. I don't dilute it, and any brand will work. Just make sure it's the essential oil kind, not the baking kind. :D

message 12: by Jaye (new)

Jaye Knight (jayelknight) | 389 comments Mod
Most of them you probably should dilute, but like Amanda, I've used peppermint straight. If you want to dilute them to make them go further, grape seed oil works really well. That's what I use for a base in all my oil blends.

message 13: by Morgan (new)

Morgan | 342 comments Gosh, Shantelle, that's awful. I'll be praying that you will be able to have kids someday. I can't imagine how awful it would be to not.

And Jaye, I'm just really glad frankincense works for you. When you told me awhile back what sort of diet you would probably have to be on, I couldn't imagine how awful it would be.

Well, I'm Morgan and I'm still working through problems. We have a lot of allergies and sinus problems in our family. In fact, my aunt just moved to Ohio because she's allergic to Florida. I've always tended to get a lot of headaches and would often get migraines. Luckily, they never have lasted more than an hour or two, but it's still not fun to have a major headache and be afraid to move for fear of throwing up. Sorry if that's sort of graphic. :P And I had a stuffy nose. Like, all the time. My mom and sister have similar issues. And ibuprofen and antihistamines never did anything for me. Neither did essential oils. So we started experimenting with different ways of eating.

We cut dairy for awhile, and, like I said on the other thread, it didn't do anything except make me very grumpy. When we tried gluten-free, we started eating a lot more fresh vegetables and I was eating better cheese, too. Like, cheddar and mozzarella, not American. My mom started buying lunch meat that was cured with celery salt instead of chemicals (except for when we moved, when I got some headaches on the not as good meat and cheese). We also started taking some vitamin supplements and magnesium. I think the magnesium makes a big difference, since we tried even a different brand and my headaches got worse again, but when I went back, it moderated. So whatever it is helped some. I hadn't been at all convinced that I had any pollen allergies since I felt just as bad in the winter, but last spring I could notice a definite difference in the way I felt when pollen was high. And Tylenol and Benadryl actually help now. Not that I take it often, but when I do, it finally makes a difference. I'm pretty well convinced now that I'm at least allergic to grass pollen and dust. I've definitely felt worse after mowing when grass pollen is high, or after helping to clean the garage.

Also, some things seem to affect my stomach. I had noticed my stomach feeling weird, sort of gassy, after eating spaghetti, and thought maybe it was tomatoes, but since I feel fine eating fresh tomatoes, we tried making sauce from canned tomato and I felt fine. This is all on gluten free noodles. We're not entirely sure if store bought gluten stuff is okay or not. The wheat we grind ourselves is (we've made our own bread for at least ten years, so that's nothing new), but I felt bad after eating macaroni and cheese at a fundraiser the other day, so it could be the noodles, the cheese, or both. Oh, and I can't handle very much greasy food. My stomach doesn't like me very much if I try to eat fried chicken or fish or Italian dressing. Or sweet potato fries or onion rings, for that matter.

So, anyway, that's my health stuff. I don't figure anyone's perfectly healthy, consequences of sin, and all that. But maybe our experiments will help other people with headaches figure out some things to try.

message 14: by Faith (new)

Faith (faithblum) | 55 comments Regarding essential oils, essential oils, if not diluted can burn your skin very badly. I have used them straight and never had problems, but others have so I have become more cautious. Plus, they'll last longer if you dilute them. :)

Regarding vaccines, I had all my vaccines through age 12ish. My sisters had them through ages 8ish and 5ish. My little brother has not had any vaccines, but he was given a little bit of formula at birth (low blood sugar due to gestational diabetes). All four of us have four issues.

Hi, I'm Faith. I used to have more food issues than I have now. Four years ago, my little brother started reacting to what Mom was eating. Due to this, we started looking up allergies. As we looked them up, and saw the symptoms, we noticed that each one of us had at least one symptom. To help us and Seth, we did an elimation diet. Through that, I learned that corn affected me. It's an intolerance as far as I know rather than an allergy, but it does things to be so I avoid any form of it including Xanthan gum, maltodextrin, corn starch, regular corn, popcorn, etc. (Check your ingredient labels to see just how hard that is).

For the last two years, we have tried the GAPS diet. It did help with some of our issues and we are slowly getting off of it. I don't think I will probably ever try wheat or corn. The only way I would try wheat is in a sourdough bread.

Raw milk, by the way is great! Dad used to get sinus infections all the time. After we switched to raw milk, he only gets them on very rare occasions.

So anyway, there's my discourse on food issues. :D

Raechel Lenore (vikinglady10) | 22 comments Wow. I just want to give you all hugs; I'm sorry there are so many health problems for you, but praise God that He is getting you all through them.

And @Shantelle: That's sad that doctors have said you might not be able to have children! I'll definitely be praying for you (praying for ALL of you guys here, too!), because yes, with God all things are possible. :)

I feel relatively healthy after reading all these comments... =D I am only allergic to penicillin, and horribly (and I do mean horribly) allergic to wasp stings. Physically, I have a bad back that causes my stomach to hurt when it's out, but I know God is healing it in His time. That being said, I believe He can heal my illnesses/problems, as He is our Great Physician! Praise Him for that. My family and I personally have found that iniquity and sins do show up in our physical health a lot, but after prayers and repenting and renouncing the lies/vows/iniquities/curses and whatever else God brings to our attention that have caused any illnesses, our bodies line up with that and many of the issues we were suffering over, go away after praying. Not that that is the case for everyone, we've just noticed it in our own lives. And sometimes God keeps us in various levels of pain for only a reason He knows.

But yeah, health-wise/allergies, I'm fine, thankfully. I don't know what allergy would be the worst...it all sounds terrible, so I am sorry. =(

H.M.R. (mybookcaseandi) | 381 comments Yeah it is quite surprising how many people have health problems! I keep you all in my prayers.

Hello I'm Hannah and I have P.K.U which stands for Phenylketenuria (I'm not sure if that is spelled correctly sorry) I've Had it ever since I was born. basically I'm a very very very strict vegetarian I can't have dairy products, wheat, flour, meat, beans (except a limited amount of green beans, um can't Have much pop corn, Latte, um I'm kinda going blank now. I can have a certain amount of phenylalanine a day (350) that's 7 grams of protein. I also have to drink a formula every day or else I'll get really ditzy, have bad headaches and some others I can't think of. If I go over my phe. limit I could lose up to 2 points of I.Q. just for the day and then be really ditzy, have a short attention span and some others I can't think of at the moment. My sister has PKU to and she usually explains it so I hope I wasn't to confusing

I live in Ohio!

Any ways, sorry everybody for all the problems! Our family also uses Young Living oils.

By choice, I'm a vegetarian, I don't eat red 40, red 4, gelatin, pretty much anything made from bugs, bones, lard/fat, etc.
I also have mental problems. Compulsions are a big thing of mine (if you don't know what that is, search OCD, and I have a lot of those compulsions). For awhile I was certain I had OCD, but I don't know.

Praying for everyone!

Amanda (wordfitlyspoken) | 158 comments Okay, wow. I...had no idea so many people had health problems. I think the only health problems I have are sometimes rather frequent headaches (though not migraines), a stomach that dislikes hot dogs, and anxiety-like symptoms of muscle shaking.

And all these oils! We use some of them, but not too much. Mostly tea tree (ick...I hate the smell), peppermint, and thieves, I think. Eden's Garden or something. I'd hardly consider us "natural" people, though. I mean, I dislike highly processed food like chicken nuggets and most frozen meals like that, but I do dearly love a greasy pizza. ;P

Stargazer R. L. | 576 comments I had no clue you all had so many health issues! I've been praying for y'all and asking my mom if there's anything I can do to help (my family's been studying health-related stuff for over twenty years, so I thought there must be SOMETHING I could do to help).

So here are two links, that will hopefully really help with allergies, and point you down healthier roads. :)

http://www.westonaprice.org/

http://www.gaps.me/

There's also this quote about allergies:

"Indeed, in some cases, elimination of a trigger food can help. However, this help is rarely permanent; the patients usually find that as they eliminate some foods, they start reacting to others to which they did not seem to react before. The patient finishes up with virtually nothing left to eat, and every new test finds reactions to new foods. The majority of experienced practitioners come to the same conclusion: the simplistic idea of “just don’t eat foods you are allergic to!” does not address the root of the problem. We need to look deeper into the causes of these food intolerances. " (The quote is from: http://www.westonaprice.org/modern-di... )

Hailey Rose | 9 comments I'm not feeling so alone with my gluten intolerance now. :)

Hi everyone! I just joined the group...though I'm not sure why it took me so long to find it! :) I'll do a proper introduction in the proper introduction section here shortly.

Okay...health problems.

Unfortunately, I have three genetic disorders that are incredibly annoying. None of them have killed me yet, so I suppose that's good. I like to blame my parents for the bad genes. :)

I have Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome type 3. In a nutshell, that means that my soft tissue is hyper-flexible, and my tendons and ligaments don't hold my joints together. Therefore, I frequently dislocate knees, ankles, shoulders, fingers, wrists...you name it, I've probably dislocated it. The awesome folks at Shriners Children's Hospital have outfitted me in an array of braces to keep me in one piece. People frequently ask me if I've been in a car accident because of all the apparatuses--to which I reply, "Nope! I was born this way!" There are some benefits to this, though. At 18, I can still move the way I did when I was 10. It makes Taekwondo much more interesting. :)

Osteogenesis Imperfecta is the second genetic disorder. That means that my bones are brittle and break easily. By the age of 15, I had broken 8 bones.

The third is a bleeding disorder (hemophilia). My blood doesn't clot like it should, so small injuries turn into big problems. This one is much more life-threatening than the others. But I've stayed alive for 18 years, so I think I'm doing all right... :)

And I'm also gluten intolerant. I don't think that's genetic though. :) It's just annoying. And I'm hoping that once we find out what is really wrong with my stomach (I've had problems since childhood) I will be just fine even with gluten.

I'll be praying for you guys! God has given us amazing bodies--even if they don't work like we think they should. That's one thing I've had to learn over the past few years. He's made us in His image--problems and all!
