I feel like he's a good author with using a sci-fi setting to help readers understand and grab onto the emotional states of the characters, if that makes sense. His world and his characters aren't separate, but depend on each other for the story to be told, which is cool.

I'm reading this one right now. Echo the sentiment that it seems like it'll get pretty generic and boring, though the start was intriguing enough (interesting backstory). What I'm worried about is the stakes don't seem too high. The first encounter with the Biter, I was frightened for at least one characters life, but going forward I doubt I'll be that concerned unless something happens in the future. The one thing that could make it interesting is if some of the aliens get taken out (they've already shown that they can be removed, so while characters perishing may be too dark for this LN, losing the alien creatures / superpowers is a possibility).

I like the main character's power a lot, and he seemed to have complex emotions while not beeing too angsty. His character wasn't overdone which is something I worried about from reading the description. I also found parts written from the biter's perspective interesting.

The main character is pretty relatable too with his whole trying to forget the past philosophy by blocking out painful memories.
Basically, if I wrote a light novel, I would imagine my characters would be pretty similar to these. I like Tomomi's design, but I need to learn more about her and the others. Hoping they're as interesting.

I'm kinda making my way through Kawahara 's works atm and was really intrigued to read something that isn't an Anime yet (although it would be brutal af).
And tbh I was pretty impressed by this book.
His writing style improved a lot (compared to the first two SAO lightnovels) and I could feel with the characters more easily.
I also really liked the concept of the super Powers.
But personally the contrast of Minoru and Takaesu was my favorite, because they actually had a lot of similarities yet ended Up on completly different paths.
I kind of want to go as far as to say that Takaesu kind of redeemed himself in my opinion. At least for the reader.
I really liked him in the end.
Now I'm kinda worried that the second book won't be able to keep Up with that.
Has anymone already read it?
I'm 1/2 way though it and it seems pretty generic so far, well written since Reki has gotten to be a good writer. The powers being based off their traumas in life seems to be the theme with this series similar to Accel World but this time it's not a VR Fighting Game/MMO thing.
