F.J. | 1 comments In case you haven't heard, Amazon is changing the way royalties are paid to KU authors. Right now authors are paid the same amount for each download that makes it to 10% read, but starting July 1, authors will be paid per total pages read.

Everyone is in a tizzy about this, and it will likely change the landscape of KU books - more longer works and fewer short ones.

I'm curious, though about the typical KU reader's reading habits. I assume everyone reads at least $10 worth of books a month or you wouldn't subscribe, but are you more likely to read 3 full length novels or 30 short books? Or 30 full length novels? :)

My personal experience from my 1 month as a KU reader is that I like the short 30-50 page reads and probably read 20 or 30 of them last month. I also read at least one full length novel that I wouldn't have read otherwise.

How about you?

The length of the book doesn't matter to me as long as the content is good. The only time I even look at the length of the book is if I have set a goal and I need to get in a few quick reads to reach it.

Tess Garfield (tessmgarfield) | 5 comments I like short to medium length books. As an author enrolled in KDP select (to make my books available for KU readers), the change in royalty payments for KU downloads means that I get half the royalties for KU downloads (read cover to cover) than I do for Kindle edition sales. I can see why some authors would be put off by the lower payment, but I value my KU readers. I have two more books in progress at the moment, but I also intend to release some shorter books, especially for KU. This feedback is invaluable, so thank you.
