Thank you! Finally someone who thinks like I do. I love Jem, don't get me wrong, but it's Tessa and Will forever. I hated how the book ended, though. I'm sorry but Cecily seems like she is gonna be annoying in Clockwork Princess.

Me too! So sad... I wish Jem hadn't proposed at all, and Will had found out about the curse earlier! If Tessa and Will don't get together, I WILL cry so hard!

oh wow... uhmm I've gotta say their are loads of worst parts for me:
1. Jem proposing, and Tessa saying 'yes' - what else could she say?
2. Will telling Tessa he loves her and her telling him she's engaged
3. Jem being all happy and telling Will about how he (SELFISHLY) asked Tessa to marry him and she said yes :/

You can't turn down a beatiful DYING person. It just breaks my heart.
I hate the part when Will came in too late to tell the truth to Tess on why he acted such a jerk to everyone.
so...
boo-freaking-hoo

YEP!!!

Tessa likes Will better, she only said yes to Jem cos he was dying... so isn't it unfair to Jem that a woman who does not love him is marrying him out of sympathy?
and you can tell Tessa loves Will, because she burns her own hand after Will leaves and says it was nothing compared to the pain of her heart breaking in two or something.
The worst part by far was Tessa breaking Will's heart. It broke my heart as well.
I adore Jem and the last thing I want is for him to be unhappy but Tessa belongs with Will.

Sumaya...You’re precisely correct about that one.
But really…if you’re in Tessa’s situation, can you just drop Jem just like that? Tell him that you don’t love him and you prefer Will over him despite everything that happened between the two of you in his room? (Tess just gave him false hope because of that incident) Jem is clueless about her feelings with his parabatai. Can you just say that to him? Aside from that, she said “yes”. Its already there so it just bound to become super awkward to everyone and well…unbearable. That’s why it’s the suckiest part of the story. No one can blame Tess, Jem or Will. It’s nobody’s fault.
Im not saying it because I prefer Jem over Will (or me being subjective). I’m saying that because of the gravity of the whole “love triangle” situation not unless if Tessa can just gulp everything down by telling Jem that she didn’t love him and her feelings for Will is stronger.
Its not as easy as it seems.

Actually, Tessa has tried to say something before she gave her consent to Jem's proposal, but Jem cut her. Jem was very aware that he was selfish at that time and it was most likely that he would refuse to hear to any other answer but Yes from Tessa.
Jem practically begged for Tessa's hands and Tessa was already feeling guilty for leading him into believing that she loved him, and had to hear to his lame excuse of will never get a girl he loves before his death, to feel what his parents did.
Tessa was to blame. It is so true. But Tessa is a mortal is denied by the person she loves most. She was really fragile at that moment.
Jem was supposed to be the most sensitive person in the series. He was perfect, kind and caring.
Apparently, Jem was more than that. He was selfish and ignorant about what others feel about him. He failed to see his dearest friend's Will's love for Tessa, and he was too selfish and ignorant to get that Yes answer from Tessa.

The ugly faces of love."
Indeed. But it is one love which sacrifices others, the best ever friend, and the girl he loves. It is the worst thing for it was done by the supposedly kind, caring & sensitive Jem.
It is one thing you do when you are in love and the girl you love is also deeply in love with you, but it is another thing to have it done when you refuse to get other answer but Yes. That is the awful excuse from someone who claims to love a person so much. Jem should care about Tessa's feeling, about the person in love, not about himself.

Bummer

That is totally not Will. He sealed himself from everyone. He didn't even tell the curse to his parents, or Cecily for him to freely tell Jem about it. He was 'cursed' to lose the people he cared for. Surely he didn't want Jem to die by sharing his terrifying fate.

That being said I do not agree that Jem was selfish in any way in asking Tessa to marry him. He loves Tessa and Tessa loves him. End of story. She also loves Will. Do I think her feelings are stronger with Will? Of course they are. But at the time she thought Will only wanted her for a sexual relationship.
The situation sucks for everyone. Even Jem because he is left in the dark on how his now fiancee and best friend truly feel about each other.
I also do not agree that just because someone is dying doesn't mean you should marry them just because they ask. She said yes because she does love and care for him.
So in my opinion the worst part of the book is the end. Because you can clearly see the pain that lies ahead for everyone.

I will to! They are so perfect together and Will really deserves a happy ending after everything that has happened. That poor guy, you just wanna give him a hug.

I wanna give him more than a hug, if you know what I mean? LOL!

Cassandra Clare makes it WAY too hard to be on a team. Really. Let's just say I'm on Team Magnus since Team Jem and Team Will is making me lose my mind!

That being said I do not agree that Jem was selfish in any way in asking Tessa to marry him. He loves Tessa and Tessa loves him. End of story. She also loves Will. Do I th..."
I wonder why you disagree to something so obvious. Even Jem said that he was being selfish.
Quoted from Clockwork Prince:
But I love you enough to hope that you will not care that I am being selfish in trying to make the rest of my life—whatever its length—happy, by spending it with you.
And Tessa was miserable and unhappy ever since the engagement.
Did Tessa love Jem? Yes... as Will loved Jem.
Quoted from Clockwork Prince:
“Do you love him?”
“Yes, I love him,” she said, and she saw Will flinch. “Don’t you?”
Did you think we 'accuse' Jem of being selfish because we dislike him out of nowhere? Nope. As simple as that, what we feel about Jem is based on what the story tells us. Jem was being selfish and ignorant with his proposal.

That being said I do not agree that Jem was selfish in any way in asking Tessa to marry him. He loves Tessa and Tessa loves him. End of story. She also lov..."
Yah I am an idiot. Guess what it really comes down to is Tessa. She could have said no. Which goes to my point of not saying yes to someone who is dying just because. When I first read the books I was team will all the way and even said in my review that she feels obligated to Jem because he is dying.
Then I read it again and started to like Jem as well. I just wanted to stick up for the guy.
I am sure if Will would have talked to her first, it would have been the same outcome only Jem being broken hearted.

He risked Jem's fate by just being friends with him but he did it because Jem was already dying so he thought it wouldn't matter or that it would be worth it so he wouldn't be lonely. Since he was risking Jem's life he should have had the decency to tell Jem about it and then I'm sure Jem would have been intelligent enough to tell him that he should investigate into the curse. The fact that Will never told Jem and risked his life like that was pretty messed up.

Then I read it again and started to like Jem as well. I just wanted to stick up for the guy. "
Why are you an idiot? You might prefer Jem than Will and come to his 'defend' when you think we 'are attacking' him. I think it was caused by your 'love' towards Jem.
You just need to know that we do not attack Jem because we are blinded by our love to Will. We wrote things about Jem based on the story. I consider it is unnecessary and wasting of time to dislike a character more than what we read.

What happened to Will to run away from his happy family and their warmness was actually pretty messed up, not the reason of why Will never told Jem anything about his curse. Will is a smart person, but when it comes to his scary curse, was rather quiet and keep it to himself. He was still young when it happened. The trauma is never an easy thing to handle or tell.
Jem was lonely too and hanging in to his friendship with Will to survive. As much as Jem is written to be a caring, nice and kind young man, he was not close to anyone else but Will. When Will was consumed by drug, Jem yelled at how Will's action has affected him, not at how the drug can possibly destroy his best and only friend. As much as the used-to-be Will took granted of his friendship with Jem, the supposed to be gentle and caring Jem also did the same. Their difference was... Will was faking his ignorant messed up bad boy self, while Jem was showing his other colour than just being nice.

Actually it's quite the contrary. I do like Will more but I also like Jem too. I just didn't think he was being selfish and just because he said it doesnt make it true. Tess had the right to say no. Lets say that Jem didn't tell her that he was sick and asked her to marry him, then yes I can see him being selfish. Or how about Jem somehow knew about Tessa and will's feelings for each other and asked her anyway, then yes I could see him being selfish. But she knew what she was getting into by saying yes, that's why I feel like he isn't selfish.
If anyone is selfish, it's Tessa. She isn't being fair to anyone, not even herself.
And I am an idiot cause I totally forgot about him calling himself selfish lol.

Jem was not a liar, so he was pretty sure that he was what he said he was, unless you can read more than the text... ;)
Tessa tried to say something, but Jem cut her, twice. (not a very nice, caring and sensitive attitude there).
I didn't say that Tessa was not selfish. She was. No matter how she wanted to save a dying person and give him the happiness he claimed to never have, and would probably die right in front of her if she said No (and Will would have hated her for killing Jem), she should have said No. Tessa might be a gentle young lady who has a soft heart, but I really wanted to slap her of her self-righteousness.
She said Yes to Jem for she was guilty of making Jem believed that she was in love with him, for accepting Jem's hand while her love for her is the same with Will's for Jem. She was miserable and so unhappy after that. She punished herself for making Will devastatingly unhappy of her engagement. She needs to constantly reminding herself that she loves Jem, especially when Will is around.
No matter how annoying Tessa was, she didn't expect to have Jem begged her of his happiness. His. Not Tessa.
Tessa was pushed to give her answer in a condition of "Said Yes, keep me alive and make me happy, or else"
Ohh...btw... People said, the third time will make it true... LOL

Jem was not a liar, so he was pretty sure that he was what he said he was, unless you c..."
Looks like i should go read again lol.
See that's how I felt the first time reading it, was her guilt if she said no to someone dying. But I felt bad for feeling that way.
And I also saw her being unhappy while I read it the first time, as for the second time I tried looking for a different angle when I read it. Call it wishful thinking or being superstitious but I have tried seeing from Jem's POV this time simply because its Will I want her with. If I try to see from Jem's POV then maybe in the next book I'll get what I want. Like book karma or something.
Wow that's confusing but it makes sense in my head lol.
Since seeing Jem's POV I just can't simply accept the fact he is selfish and inconsiderate. Even if he is. People are always going to see what they want to see...kinda like Tessa:)
Lets just agree that even though I like Jem. I want her with will.
Oh and yeah I agree I wanted to slap her too. Too bad Will didn't get to her first.

See that's how I felt the first time reading it, was her guilt if she said no to someone dying. But I felt bad for feeling that way. ."
I have read all Cassie's books three or four times as if I have no other things to do... LOL
I actually did not like the lack of character Cassie made Jem at the beginning. What a boring character Jem was. Nice, caring, gentle, sensitive... blah blah blah. With no friend but Will? A boring weird character. Jem did not even have sense of humour. A very dry and dull character. I really wanted to skip his parts while reading Clockwork Angel, but it might cause confusion later... too bad.
The pieces of puzzle seemed to take their place nicely when Cassie added selfishness and ignorance to Jem. I was excited in anticipating and reading more about Jem. I still don't love him though. I blame Cassie for this. She should have created a much better Jem in Clockwork Angel... And that Proposal?
I am virtually kicking Jem, slapping Tessa and hugging Will now... hahahaha

You know usually I think those characteristics are boring in books but for some reason it really worked for Jem. I liked how kind hearted he was and I also liked how considerate he was of other people's feelings. I also adore his friendship with Will.
What other friends would he be able to have? Jessamine wants nothing to do shadowhunters. That leaves Henry, who is always working on his experiments. Charlotte who is busy running the institute. Then there is Sophie, Thomas, and agatha.
Guess he could be friends with them, right? Well I guess now only Sophie! But still. Or maybe like you suggest he is truly just weird!
But...
Don't they talk about how people are always talking about his addiction? I wouldn't want to be friends with anyone else either if they talked about me like that.
From these conversations we have it would really seen like I am Team Jem lol.
Just trying to see from every side again. Old habits die hard:)

Will hung out with Thomas, although Thomas was his servant, but it didn't work that way with Jem. If he was not with Will, he was practically alone. Maybe he was that way because he hid himself. He was after all an addict. But I think the way Cassie wrote Jem's character is a bit contradictory. That's weird. Not weird in a way that I suggested Jem to be a weirdo or insane... LOL
He might be an addict, but being an addict should have not prevented him from hanging around with people at the institute. They were not the ones who talk about his addiction like people outside.
Jem was written as a nice..... person despite his dying-self, that being an almost dead person didn't hide his shiny personality, that he can smile despite anything. That was at the beginning of their friendship. But when Jem yelled about Will's reckless behaviour of consuming drugs, Jem showed his hidden hurt and desperation, loud and clear. It is like Jem has double personality sometimes.
I am team Will, for even though Will was so arrogant in Clockwork Angel, he lost it sometimes and showed that he cared for others.
I am practical. I prefer the young man who acted foolish and ignorant and all bad things, who is actually warm and caring inside, rather than a person who is almost dead but still makes me want to kick him out of his selfishness.... hahahaha

Or Nurlely?

Me too! It feels really awkward thinking about Jem and Tessa as a couple doesn't it?

Not cool.
So, as much as I want Jem to be happy and live, all I truly want is Will and Tessa to be together. If that doesn't happen, well... read this.

Yes! I love Jem and all but it's just not the way I want it :( I hate this, all well, I don't want Jem to die but I want Will and Tess to be together...

Ditto but the opposite! LOL If Tessa ends up with Will I will return my book and then burn the first two that I have. Okay no but I'll donate them so I don't have to look at them.

Definitely, I mean, Jem is wonderful but it doesn't seem like Tessa is attracted to him in the ways you should be with a partner- and yes, I'm talking about lust - but she is that way with Wil. It just seems like a Jace/Clary situation all over again. 'A cosmic joke' JAce called it.

I feel your pain, gosh I know it's a book but it's just... Ugh, I hate it all together but honestly I'm in love with Jem too. It's just Will is so much more better with Tess, right?
