(Wow stupid thing deleted my post))Zach sat in the backyard watching Isaiah play around on the play set. They had not seen Lucas for a few weeks and Isaiah was not really running away from Sarah anymore though he still asked where Lucas was all the time
((I don't know whatever your little evil heart wants just don't kill him.))
A young police officer walked up the steps of Zach's house and knocked on the door. When he revived no answer, he called for him. "Mr. James! Open up!" he yelled, knocking again.
Zach chuckle softly as he sort of chased Isaiah around the back yard. He stopped for a second thinking he heard something. "Come on Isaiah." He said going around to the front of the house.
The officer, Tony, turned towards him. "Mr. James? I'm Tony Johnson with the police department. Do you know Lucas Daniels?" he asked, holding his hands behind his back as he faced Zach.
Zach frowned seeing a police officer on his front porch. "Yeah I know Lucas Daniels." He answered picking Isaiah up
Tony nodded. "Mr. Daniels has you listed as one of the first people to call in case of something. Mr. Daniels was severely injured Saturday night and wasn't found until just this morning. Being one of his first contacts, we are required to notify you." he explained to him.
Zach stared at the officer for a second," okay can you tell me what happened to him?" He asked as his mind went to the worst possible thing he could think of
"Mr. Daniels was a casualty of a gang fight Saturday night. A member of one gang thought he was a rival and was shot." Tony answered then cocked his head as the radio on his shoulder buzzed. ((Let's just say it's a miracle he didn't die.))
Zach stared for a long time not saying anything just shocked about what he was hearing," he is still alive right?" He asked
Tony nodded. "He is still alive. The doctors have been notified to explain everything, medically, if you choose to visit." he said, then put up his hand. "I'm afraid I need to go, sir. But I hope you have a good day." Tony said, striding to his car and getting in. He turned on the sirens then sped down the road.
Zach nodded slightly," alright thank you." He answered watching as he drove away. He looked at Isaiah as he was just watching the police car and then he went into action. "Alright Isaiah daddy has to go to the hospital for a little bit to see someone." He said," You are going over to the neighbors house until I get back." He said walking over there and explaining without saying Lucas's name so Isaiah didn't know what was going on just yet
His neighbors took Isaiah with understanding and said he could stay with for as long as needed. They had a little boy as well who's clothes could fit Isaiah.
Zach nodded and then hurried off to his car and to the hospital. He walked in and asked where Lucas Daniels was. He was directed down the hall and he slowly walked into the room. He really didn't know what to expect seeing Lucas
Lucas was hooked to all kinds of wires and tubes. He had pure oxogen running through a tube in his nose and multiple machines kept track of his vitals. Lucas' face and arms were bruised but not badly. Though you couldn't see it, under his gown, Lucas had a bandage on his shoulder where he was shot.
Zach just stood there for a second and then walked over to the bed lettin the door close behind him. "Lucas?" He asked softly just barely touching his hand
Lucas had woken, for the first time since arriving at the hospital, just as Zach came in. When Zach said his name, Lucas' eyelids fluttered and he cracked his eyes open.
Zach watched him hoping he would be alright," Lucas." He said again seeing he was waking a little. He kept his fingers lightly pressed against the palm of lucas' hand
Lucas' fingers curled weakly around Zach's and his eyes slowly opened more. He grimaced at how bright it was and squinted until his eyes had adjusted better.
Zach never took his eyes off Lucas' face," Don't open your eyes all the way it will hurt more than it already does." He said softly
Lucas grunted softly in acknowledgement and his eyes stayed half lidded. When he tried to move his other arm and adjust, sharp pain shot through his arm and shoulder. Lucas hissed in pain and took a deep breath. "What happened?" he said, his voice gravelly.
Zach watched him and then said," Don't move." He didn't want Lucas in anymore pain than was necessary," well according to what the police officer who showed up at my house said you were shot but I don't know where or how many times." He commented softly," you don't remember?"
"No. I remember walking home because my car broke down and then nothing." Lucas said, trying to clear his throat. The fingers over Zach's became stronger and he held Zach's hand better.
"Why didn't you call and ask me to come get you or get a you a can or something?" He asked softly. "Do you need a drink?" He asked suddenly hearing him clear his throat. Zach gently rubbed his thumb over the back of Lucas' hand
Lucas gave a slight jerky nod. "Yeah." he answered, eyeing the styrofoam cup and sink right behind Zach. Lucas groaned softly and he tried to get comfortable.
Zach looked at the cup and slowly let go of his hand to get him some water. "Here but don't move too much or you will probably pass out" he said holding the cup close to Lucas so he could get a drink from the straw
Lucas only moved his head forward a bit before snagging the straw between his teeth. He maneuvered it into his mouth then took long drinks from it. It was odd being given water that way but he didn't care. He was finished, Lucas looked up at Zach. "Thank you." he said, his voice a little smoother than before.
Zach nodded slightly," You're welcome. It's a good thing I didn't bring Isaiah with me." He said softly looking at him
"Yeah. How have you guys been?" Lucas asked, feeling guilty for not visiting them over the past few weeks. He looked away and studied the white walls of the hospital room.
"Fine I guess." He answered softly gently putting his hand back in Lucas'," you didn't tell me you had me on the top of your emergency contacts." Zach said softly
Lucas wrapped his fingers around Zach's and sighed. "Well, my parents live in the next state. I needed someone." he said with a weak smile. He sighed softly and briefly closed his eyes. He felt he'd been run over by a semi.
Zach nodded a little as he watched him,"I'm not upset that you did I was just surprised." He answered softly," maybe I should leave so you can get some rest."
Lucas nodded a little. "That's probably a good idea." he admitted, his eyes closing again. Breathing felt like a chore. No wonder he had the oxogen.
Zach smiled just slightly," alright then I will come back tomorrow and see how you are doing." He said softly
((Yeah until the next day or a few days later??))
((Let's do a few days.)) Lucas was still at the hospital but was allowed to sit up. He used his good arm to run a hand through his hair and looked up at the tv that was quietly playing a cooking show. Zach had said he was going to visit after work. Lucas wasn't sure if Isaiah knew what was going on though.
A few days after the officer had shown up to his house Zach was in one last meeting for te day and then he was going to visit with Lucas for a few hours then go home. He had already told Lucas on the way to work that he would be there after all of his meetings and such. He still had not told Isaiah a lot about what happened to Lucas and was hoping to bring the child to see his best friend as Isaiah called Lucas now to see him today since Lucas was a little better and could use Isaiah's cheerfulness Zach called Lucas a few hours after he had told him what his plan was for te day. He waited for Lucas to pick up
Lucas looked over at his phone when it rang. Blasted nurses had put it on the wrong bed table. He groaned softly as he reached over and grabbed his phone. "Yellow?" he answered, leaning back against the hospital bed and absentmindedly watching the Tv.
As Zach was waiting for Lucas to pick up he packed up what he needed to work on for the next day and walked out to his car. "Hey how are you feeling?" He asked after Lucas answered the phone. He unlocked his car and put his stuff in the passenger seat
Lucas smiled. "Better then yesterday. They finally said I could sit up." Lucas answered with a chuckle. "How's your day been?" he asked in return, watching as the show host cut up some vegetable and added it to a pot.
Zach smiled slightly as he listened to Lucas," Well that's always a plus to be able to sit up." He answered. "I know that feeling.. My day has been alright I suppose a little boring." He replied. "Are you up for a three year old visitor today?" He asked," or should Isaiah wait a few more days?"
((I've lost the other ones, Tink.)) Lucas nodded with a smile. "I think it'll be alright." Lucas answered, scratching at his face. The doctor had yet to give him a way to shave his face and it was itchy as all get out.
((Ahhh I'll see if I can find them o.O )) Zach started his car and nodded." Okay I'll go home and change then come over.. Do you need me to get anything for you?" He asked as he carefully drove.
"Nope. Just get over here before I slowly die of boredom and insanity." Lucas joked with a smile. Lucas had been told that morning he would have to stay a few more days then they would figure out a two week long rehab plan for his arm.
Zach laughed," alright well we can't have that now can we?" He asked as he pulled into his driveway. "We'll be over there in a bit." He replied getting out of his car but leaving all of his stuff in it and going to pick Isaiah up
