Yeeeeees! And Kaden needs to beat the stuffing out of Collin!

YES! YES! YES!!!! Then we could have it about their children, and grandchildren!

Yep, besides she has all but the last book written anyway. Not a lot of budge room to add any of these suggestions!

That would be nice, hah, although I am not a fan of your "...catch up with everyone who survives the series." I don't want to acknowledge the plausibility of any of our, ahem, her characters not surviving!

Erika Mathews (erikamathews) | 199 comments I have to disagree. Good characters (and good real life people) do NOT worsen with age. They only get better. Yes, they may eventually have fewer physical capabilities, but their extended range of spirituality, experience, wisdom, and good character from learning over a lifetime more than makes up for it. Older people can be just as joyful, loving, funny, enthusiastic, interested in learning new things, spunky, adventurous, impactful, encouraging, and so forth. I'd love to see Ilyon characters as older people, even just to show that it's not all downhill after your teens/20s. :) Good character and passion for God causes people to age quite gracefully and beautifully. As Scripture says, the gray head is a crown of glory of it is found in the way of righteousness.
Plus, there'd be little Jaces and Kyrins and so forth to cheer for, admire, and follow through struggles and joys (and view through Jace and Kyrin's eyes!) - maybe even multiple generations of them. :) Think about how wonderful it would be for Jace and Kyrin to watch children and grandchildren grow up in a world that possibly has turned back to Elom - who have childhoods that they themselves only dreamed of.

I just deleted my statement. I probably should have reread before posting. I didn't mean for it to come across like it did. I don't mean to ever say that elderly people are anyway inferior to the character of a younger person. It isn't that way at all. Most people that are older have a great death of character and a wisdom that can only come with age that is beautiful. I greatly admire that.

There is just something about following a character through a series and watching the door close gently on their life. And it almost seems rude to open up that door again and pop in to see how they're doing.

I do get how wonderful it would be to get to see their children being able to worship freely because of their sacrifices. But to me I am happy knowing that it will happen. I don't actually have to read about it.

I hope I explained myself. *glances nervously over what I've written*

message 109: by Erika (new)

Erika Mathews (erikamathews) | 199 comments Yes, that makes a lot of sense. :) Thanks for clarifying that. I think that is a perfectly valid frame of reference. Some series I enjoy reading on and on in the characters' lives, and some I don't. It depends on the series and how the sequels are written. If it's well-written, I personally enjoy following their whole life story, but I can definitely understand that other readers wouldn't want to.

message 110: by R.J. (new)

R.J. Rodda (rjrodda) | 5 comments I feel like the series up until Samara's Peril has been Old Testament. It will be interesting to see now that Elon has died, how comfortable the group is with fighting their enemies as opposed to loving their enemies. How do you turn the other cheek in the face of overwhelming evil

message 111: by Natalie (new)

Natalie | 61 comments I would love to see Rebekah from "Resistance" (the girl in Kinnim, I think, who was nice to Jace) come back into the series and maybe be a love interest for someone. Collin comes to mind....maybe he could become a follower of Elom, too? He'd still like Kryin, but of course she doesn't like him and Jace would be super protective and jealous....so then Collin can fall in love with someone else. Like Rebekah. :P
(Or, what about Rebekah and Liam? They'd be super cute, I think . :))

PS. I promise I don't want a Collin, Kyrin, Jace love triangle. I just think it'd be interesting to see how Jace reacts to having Collin around. :P

message 112: by Natalie (new)

Natalie | 61 comments Oh, as a side note, the reason I thought of Collin and Rebekah together was because they both liked Kyrin and Jace, respectively, so I thought it'd be cute if they ended up with each other. :)

message 113: by Erika (new)

Erika Mathews (erikamathews) | 199 comments I would love to read a prequel starring William before and/or during Resistance. Perhaps we could learn how he comes to know Elom and how he got his current position. I would love to read more of him!

message 114: by Karis (new)

Karis | 132 comments Yes, that would be neat.

H.S.J. Williams | 109 comments Am I the only one who wants to know more about Glynn? When he was a boy and Darrq rescues him from his abusive father. Would make a good novella. :)

message 117: by Kendra (new)

Kendra Ardnek | 541 comments We also need the book where Darq finally gets me the dragon he promised me. On the condition that I get to Ilyon, but, pft, details!

message 119: by Phoenix (new)

Phoenix Loxley | 16 comments Okay, I'm not trying to sound wierd, but am I the only one who thinks something should happen to Kyrin? Before you freak out, I'm NOT saying she should die! I just mean that Jace and Kaden and Trask and Liam-and pretty much every male character in the series-have been beaten and whipped and every other possible terrible thing. Jace most of all, though. Seriously, I don't think there has been a single book where he didn't almost die...I just feel like Kyrin is too protected. Wouldn't it be super terrible but interesting if Kyrin got put in the arena Daican is building? Then Jace could rescue her. Also, has anyone else wondered who will be the "Stephen" from Acts:6-7? I have this terrible feeling it's going to be one of Kyrin's brothers.

message 120: by Erika (new)

Erika Mathews (erikamathews) | 199 comments No...! Don't hurt our Kyrin!

She was the original believer to nearly be executed in Resistance... and think how much she suffered each time Jace was hurt...

(I know what you're saying, though.)

message 121: by Natalie (new)

Natalie | 61 comments Mmm, I guess I wouldn't mind is Kyrin were in more dangerous situations, but I certainly think she's been through enough already. *protectively hugs her* But then, I think that for all the characters. *protectively hugs them all* (especially my darling Jace)

*gasp* I never even thought of Stephen!! Don't say that. It can't be Marcus or Liam. It just can't. Or anyone for that matter. :'(

Kendra Ardnek | 541 comments I think William was Stephen.

message 123: by Kendra (new)

Yes, that would be really interesting. I like that idea.

And NO! Liam and Marcus CANNOT be Stephen! I don't care who is, JUST NOT LIAM OR MARCUS!!!!

message 128: by Phoenix (new)

Phoenix Loxley | 16 comments On second thought, I think maybe Timothy will be Stephen. I don't think William was because Stephen dies after Jesus dies in the Bible.

message 129: by Katie (new)

Katie Hanna | 59 comments Phoenix wrote: "On second thought, I think maybe Timothy will be Stephen. I don't think William was because Stephen dies after Jesus dies in the Bible."

Yeah. I think William was supposed to be more analogous to the Old Testament martyrs . . .

message 132: by Natalie (new)

message 133: by Katie (new)

Katie Hanna | 59 comments Natalie wrote: "Um, no one. Obviously. :P Who says we NEED Stephen in this series?"

Um . . . I do? :-P

He was the first Christian martyr--EVER--and thus holds an incredibly important place in the story of Christianity; and that's really what this allegory is all about. So I feel we need him. (Plus, there's no way we can get away with just one main-character death throughout the whole series. No. Way.)

message 134: by Erika (new)

Erika Mathews (erikamathews) | 199 comments Well, we certainly don't lack for martyrs in this series.

Katie Hanna | 59 comments Erika wrote: "Well, we certainly don't lack for martyrs in this series."

But I don't know if any of them can be fairly be said to symbolize CHRISTIAN martyrdom, yet; because their Christ-figure hasn't shown up yet? (I'm almost halfway through Samara's Peril . . . no spoilers, please!!!!)

Hahahahahahahahahahahahahaha . . . it's fine. Writers need to be readers, too, sometimes. After all, if we didn't go through the same tortures our audiences do, we would have no idea HOW to torture them effectively, right?

*realizes how sadistic that sentence sounded*

*backs away slowly*

message 145: by Phoenix (new)

WHAAAAA!!! That part was THE BEST!!!! <3 <3 <3 Gah! I cried and reread it over and over again. XD

message 148: by Kendra (new)

Kendra Ardnek | 541 comments Spoilers now for anyone who hasn't read the second half and why I say that William is Stephen.

1. Stephen was martyred by the Jews. There was, thus, a distinction between belief in God and the belief that Jesus was God's son.
2. Persecution in Ilyon is 90% carried out by Dacian, the Roman Empire so to speak, who makes no distinction between following Elom and following Elon.
3. I will grant that William was not the first execution for a believer, but he was the first public one for someone of high rank. His execution is what gave Dacian the boldness to finally crack down on a full-scale persecution.
4. This is what happened with Stephen's stoning - it made killing the Christians the thing to do with them.

Unless my above point of Elom-believers deciding that Elon was fake happens, and these believers start persecuting those who believe Elon was Elom's son, UNLESS A DISTINCTION OCCURS, we do not need a Stephen.
