I feel like this book has emotionally assaulted me. I spent like the last half crying. I need some emotional support. Anyone else finished?

Yes, I'm here baby. We can talk.
I can only describe it as emotionally brutal.

The author did SUCH a good job at convincing me that Julie's version of the story was true, and then the second half, to find out how much Julie must have been faking in order to pass on her version as the truth, I was just... emotionally assaulted. And then when she DIED, ugh, I couldn't believe it! I thought it was going to be that trope where the author "kills" the main character, but we find out later they had only been injured and made a recovery and then they come back at the end and everything is happy BUT IT WASN'T! That letter from Julie's mom... I just... emotionally brutal is right.

I believed everything Julie wrote as well and I was like O_O the entire time. What a fantastic character.'
The moment she passed broke me. If I wasn't on the bus I would have probably sobbed. Instead I just cried a little and tried to hold it all in.
The book was emotionally grating.

I liked it much better by the end too, the beginning was just so slow.

I think the details were what made the overall story so great, though. Without all the details, I wouldn't have believed Julie's version, and then without Maddie's details, I wouldn't have known why Julie gave all those other details.

Yes, I agree. I didn't like the slow pace, but the details were interesting - if sometimes a bit tedious.
