As I said, if I can ever get this TBR pile down *Ding* I'll be more than happy to join as a reader. I'm sure the *Ding* books will slow down at some point. But I'm more than willing to supply any of my books for read and review *Ding*

same here, that would be awesome, if there was the time for it. things right now are in overload (and i'm guessing the same is for everyone else at the moment). The first chance I get though, i'm gonna go on an indie binge since I've been out of it for so long, and things like this would be super helpful going through to see who is actually participating in not being a selfish ass. which to me would indicate, not being a waste of my time, as kinda harsh way to put it

I'm already reading Indies almost exclusively so it wouldn't make much of a difference to me as long as it's something I'd want to read. (Not signing up for any R&R if I have reservations about a title.)With all the authors in this group, I'm sure I'd find more than a few that would fit the bill. :p

I'm thinking - assuming people sign up - a couple stories are put out every couple weeks with sign up sheets for the number of copies an author will put out - 5 - 20.
People request a copy as they like/have time and agree to finish within a month and post a review on GR and at a retailer. Nobody needs to rush but it will be first come, first serve.
Basically, these sign ups can span whatever length of time is required for all copies to be claimed. The topic only closes when all copies are taken.
It would require authors to monitor their own book threads for requests but - honestly - I don't think that's asking a lot since they are getting reviewers.
I'm willing to try it, anyway, if we get a few benefactor authors and brave readers on-board :)

Readership is going to be key, though. It'll flop if everbody is offering but nobody is reading. I share EVERYONE'S sentiments where you only want to participate if you have time and interest in a title. I plan/hope to snag the occasional title myself but authors will just need to manage expectations that it might be a few months - if at all - before all the available copies are read and reviewed.
It's an opportunity, in any event. We've discussed how some genres are more popular than others in various threads but it's a degree of attention most groups won't invest in when it comes to members. If nothing else, it's a chance to pick up a few reviews and - maybe - get a few readers willing to talk you up to others :)

I think it'd be a nice counterbalance if the Pay-It-Forward goes into effect. this way you, if you can't afford the book, perhaps it's on the R2R or if you like it so much you can buy it, or something along those lines, but I think this would work well along sides it.

If nothing else, it helps our authors get a leg up with a few reviews since most people agree those are good for impressing random readers :)

Sounds like a plan, other groups I'm in do this too. I don't read all the books mostly the ones that are in up ally and that have a chance of a good review.

I'm not the most eclectic readers, so I get how it's hard but if there are enough active members browsing :)

Okay - I'm seriously drafting some guidelines and FAQ for this so I hope people are serious about participating as readers and authors.
Not a requirement but someone is bound to post a book in everyone's wheelhouse :)

I am for this. I have had opportunities to find new authors and series through this program in other groups so I am sure I will enjoy it here too!...

"Authors who are active members and have participated in another R2R for a Fringe Author will be given priority over submissions from those less invested in the group or this activity (as a show of good will and acknowledgment of faithful group participation)."It seems to me that this could lead to a sort of review-trade thing. There is some potential for bias or at least hesitance about complete honesty when the same people are reviewing each other. I guess that's a no, I wouldn't participate.

Absolutely your call - nobody is obliged to participate in any capacity if they would rather not :)

      Okay - sigh...
After spending - I'm not kidding you - 6 hours trying to organize templates, FAQs, guidelines and all that I've decided that I will not be able to manage something of this scope for a group of authors.
As much as I want to help organize, the set-up is exhausting and the up-keep would be insane. It would be a part-time job at least updating people requesting copies, releasing new books for R2R and the volume of PMs for questions and concerns would be too staggering to keep up with.
So, by all means, keep organizing your own R2Rs and ARCs on an individual basis but there's no way I'll be able to organize this. Better to stop here before I drive myself nuts trying to make it work :D

I'm entirely sympathetic to how authors struggle for visibility and rounding up reviews. We don't encourage copy/paste promotion BUT what is we had a organized R2R/group read for Fringe Authors?
The set up would go something like this:
- Authors submit a book to a waiting list along with how many copies they're willing to provide (5-20) in exchange for honest reviews.
- Authors who are active members and have participated in another R2R for a Fringe Author will be given priority over submissions from those less invested in the group or this activity (as a show of good will and acknowledgment of faithful group participation)
- Every two weeks(ish) we release a few titles to the group (in the order they signed up) for members to request, as interested.
- Members request a copy with the understanding a review is expected within 30 days and should be posted to a retailer as well. Any unexpected delays/DNF should be communicated in a post on the same thread.
- Authors monitor their threads and provide copies, per request, in the appropriate format.
- Readers may request no more than 2 books at a time but may ask for more once finished.
- Readers will post a link to their review upon completion, so we know who's done and what is in the wind
Ideally, this will benefit authors and give us all an excuse to read more indie while supporting our own. It might take a while to build up but it could be a good thing for this group and get random discussions going for books :)
Any thoughts so far?
