"You're right," Emerson agreed with a soft groan. She closed her eyes ad nestled next to him, much more relaxed than the previous night. "Goodnight," she whispered, listening to his breathing and heartbeat.

Bones kissed her forehead before relaxing into the bed and closing his eyes as well. The light had already been shut off so it was easy for for to fall asleep, and he did almost immediately. He liked having Emerson laying beside him as well, it was calming somehow.
Emerson listened to Bones' breathing slow to steady, deep breaths and noticed hers did as well, and eventually fell asleep. A few hours later she stirred but felt too lazy and leaden to move, only tilting her head to look up at Bones before closing her eyes again and sighing softly.
Bones woke up the next morning with a small groaned and looked over at Emerson. He smiled small before carefully sliding his arm out from under her and climbing out of bed. When he stood up he almost collapsed to the floor, his legs seemly unable to hold him up for a moment. "Fuck" he whispered and walked into the bathroom and turned on the light to examine the wound on his side.
"Bones?" Emerson's eyes shot open, looking around for the demon but unable to see him after he had dropped. What had happened hadn't really registered with her, but now that she was really, really awake, she slid off the bed so fast that she dropped on the floor. The angel stood quickly and made it to the bathroom door, stopping in front of Crispin as he examined his side. "What's wrong?" she demanded.
Bones sighed softly and looked up at her, "I think we may have a problem" he said and turned slightly to show her the wound. It actually looked worse then it originally did, and it was oozing black blood. He felt a little dizzy and stumbled backwards and leaned against the sink. "I know what it is, and your not going to like it" he said.
Emerson froze at the black blood on Crispin's side, and she didn't reply, only ran back out of the bathroom to grab her medic kit and bring it to him. She swallowed hard and finally looked up at him, a furious anxiety on her face. "What is it, Bones?" she demanded, searching his own face.
Bones sighed softly as he tried to find the right words to explain it, "It the Black Death, least that's what some demons call it" he said and sighed softly. "It's a bug, literally, that slowly eats you organs, saving the heart for last, since that's all a demon really needs to live" he said and sighed softly. "And as far as I know there isn't a way to get rid of it"
Emerson's hands were visibly shaking as she stepped closer to peer at the blood from the wound. "How long until you... How long do I have to figure something out?" She swallowed again, not looking up at Bones. "How long does the process take?" Her head ached, and if she were honest? She was pissed with Bones.
"A week maybe two" Bones said and sighed softly, "It's a slow process" he said and frowned slightly. "But if you start asking around about it then he'll just find us again" he said and shook his head. "You should just let it go" he said being honestly. "There's no reason for you to get caught trying to find a cure when there probably isn't one"
"Shut up," Emerson hissed, trying to think of something, anything to help. She pulled away and finally looked up, though more at the mirror than the demon in front of it. She seemed rigid, until she spoke again, her voice barely above a whisper but growing. "You said it's a poison for demons, right? So what are the odds that an angel has helped the situation before? I'll get help; Marcus won't know."
"It's not really a poison" Bones said and paused a moment before continuing to speak. "When Marcus shoved the pole into my side he must have slipped the egg onto the end of it. Because there is literally a bug eating at my insides." he said and paused again as he tried to find the right words to explain it. "It secrets this stuff that makes it easier to eat I guess I don't know, and that's what causes the black blood" he said and frowned slightly. "And why would the angels have anything to help a demon?" He sighed softly and reached out to her.
Emerson was silent for another moment before her eyes dropped again to the black blood. "Because... I have something they want." Two things, actually, but one was more likely for attention in the case they were just looking for pay. The second would come in handy if the rumors of a second war were true. She wouldn't -no, couldn't, tell Bones what they were though. She closed her eyes and counted to ten before asking, "How bad does it hurt? Do you need to lay back down?" She groaned internally. The angel had been the reason for the second bar to be put in his side.
Bones shook his head slightly, "No I'm fine for now at least" he said and reached out to her. "Emerson I don't want you to do anything that will put yourself in danger" he said and gently pulled her close. "Just please, don't put your self as risk for something that probably doesn't exist, and I don't really think I'm worth it anyway" he said and looked down at her.
Emerson stiffened for a beat before gently pressing her face into Bones' chest. "You're worth it to me," she replied, her words warbled by his skin and the emotions flying through her. "I can't obey that. I'm the reason that second pole was put into you. I'm going to fix this." She shook a little, gritting her teeth as she took a few more breaths. "I'm going to make you as comfortable as possible and then head out," she told him, pulling away enough to look him in the eye.
Bones frowned and shook his head slightly "No not okay" he said and shook his head slightly. "Emerson please don't" he said and looked her in the eye. He brought his hand up to her face and gently caressed her cheek, "this isn't you fault" he said and leaned in to kiss her softly. "And I love you to much to let you risk yourself on this"
Emerson's lower lip wobbled and she fought back the tears that shone in her eyes. "And I love you too much to let you die without trying." If he died, she would still live, and she couldn't just let him go. She stepped away, giving his hand a squeeze before dropping it. "What do you need before I go?" she asked, looking to the door of the bathroom. At least she knew where the legion's council home was in Maine. Sure, it was the next county over, but it was better than across the country.
Bones sighed, "I need you to be safe, and not to go anywhere" he said with a frown. He knew he would never be able to change her mind though. "So since that's never going to happen I don't need anything. Just go" he said and walked out of the bathroom and then the bedroom, going down the stairs to see how Copper was doing. He saw that her bowl was empty and moved to fill it back up.
Emerson kind of took that as a jab at what she was about to do, but fine. Bones didn't need to be okay with it. She took a deep breath and waited until she didn't hear his footsteps to walk out of the bathroom and go though her bag to find clothes. She just grabbed a dark button-up and black-gray jeans before changing from her pajamas into those, cleaning up a little better before heading downstairs to find Bones and at least say goodbye.
Bones finished feeding Copper and watched as the mngwa ran down from upstairs and dashed over to the food to start eating. He smiled small as he watched her before turning around to find the food Emerson got the other yesterday. When he found it he just pulled out what he liked and started eating it plain, he was to lazy to actually do something with it.
Emerson watched Bones from the doorway, leaning against the frame after glancing in Copper's direction. "Please be careful," she murmured finally, enough to know he had heard her. "Please don't leave the house for anything." She swallowed, tilting her head to look at the ceiling. "I'm going to fly there; it's what's expected of me. I should be back tonight." I hope, she didn't bother to add.
Bones rolled his eyes when she told him to be careful and turned around, not bothering to look at her but instead washed off the vegetables he was about to eat. He nodded slightly when she said she'd be back tonight, "Okay, see you then" he said, still not turning around to look at her.
Emerson stayed in the doorway for barely another moment before huffing and heading to the back door. As she walked to the cliff off of their backyard, she took off her button-up so she wouldn't rip it to reveal a plain tank. Her steps sped up until she was running, her golden-white wings snapping out of her skin with a sickening sound, as she hadn't used them in years. She jumped off the cliff, and her wings caught the air, moments later helping her to propel towards the legion home.
Bones listened rather then watched her leave before finishing up with what he was doing. HE walked over to the living room and sat down and ate the vegetables he picked out. Figured he should eat while he still had a stomach to hold the food. He sighed softly and looked over at Copper, watching her as she continued to eat her food.
((Want me to just skip to when she comes back? Or play it out?))
((Umm maybe both. You could play out what happens now, or you could just have her explain it to Bones later.))
((The latter was what I was thinking. Just a second)
Emerson came back a full day later than expected, but that wasn't what she was thinking about.
By the time she reached the farmhouse -that didn't have it's 'for sale' sign up anymore- the angel was exhausted, and it showed on her face, in her slight limp, in -well, it was evident over her entire being that she was tired. A bit of blood had dried on her lower lip, which covered the split. Her hair was a few inches shorter, and dirty. Though, despite the fresh burn on her ankle and everything else that overwhelmed her, she stumbled through the backdoor, momentarily not bothering to put away her modified wings as she groaned Bones' name and sat down in the hallway. She set a small box full of bottles down in front of her, along with the button-up she had somehow managed to not lose. "Bones!" she called again, taking a breath before standing back up. What if she was too late?

What if she was too late?
Bones was laying in bed asleep when Emerson stumbled into the house. He's pretty much been asleep the entire time she was gone. Which probably wasn't a good idea, the bug worked faster when you were asleep. He didn't really care though, he was going to die either way, didn't matter if it was sooner rather then later. He didn't really hear her at all until she called for him the second time. He groaned softly before rolling out of bed, literally. Landing on the floor hurt but he pushed himself up onto his knees and crawled out of the bedroom, since he knew he probably wouldn't be able to walk. He saw Emerson sitting in the hallway and frowned, "What happened?" he asked and crawled over to her.
A shuddering breath fell from Emerson's lips as she saw Bones, and she allowed her wings to vanish into her back in relief. "That doesn't matter," she muttered, taking a bottle with a clear liquid inside it out of the box. "Drink this, now," she demanded, her voice rough. She slid to him, forcing the lid off the bottle and putting it into his hand before helping him to sit up against the wall.
Bones sighed softly as she helped him sit up against the wall. "What males you think this is going to help" he asked slightly annoyed but downed the contents anyway. He tossed the bottle aside and looked over Emerson. "What happened?" he asked more sternly.
"It will help." Emerson stared at the box, willing her to not doubt it. "They promised." She ignored his request to tell him for another second before staring at his hands and taking a deep breath. "I found... I found the legion, and they gave me that to help you," she half-answered, biting her lower lip. "In return... I promised to fight for the duration of the next war, as I dropped out last time." Amongst other things.
"You did what" Bones asked angrily "Why would you do that" he asked his anger actually growing. He shook his head slightly "Fucking A!" he snapped before pushing himself up onto his feet and forcing himself to walk back into the bedroom, it definitely wasn't pretty bit he got there. He slammed the door shut and ambled over to the bed before collapsing onto it.
Emerson shook in shock at Bones' outburst, and she watched him hobble away in silence before standing up and walking back to her bag with the money in it. She knew she looked like shit, but she would have rather been out buying the things they needed rather than sit here and wait for the temper tantrum to end. She tied her hair back and took one look at the staircase before heading out the back, purposefully slamming the door behind her.
Bones closed his eyes and tried to calm the anger boiling inside him but he couldn't. He just couldn't believe she'd do something so stupid, the war next war could last hundreds to thousands of years. He heard her leave but really didn't care at the moment, he was to tired and angry to care about anything. So with that thought in mind he crawled to the top of the bed and climbed under the covers before passing out. Everything that could possible go wrong going through his mind as he did.
A couple hours later, Emerson came back with more items she had thought about. It would last them a few days, at least. Bathroom items, kitchen (she'd even splurged and bought a small coffee maker) and food. She sighed and dropped the necessary items in the kitchen before carrying the towels, soap and such upstairs. Bones was passed out on the bed, and she huffed before grabbing her clothing bag and passing him to the bathroom to shower.
Bones shifted slightly when he heard noise about the house, and groaned when the shower started up. He really didn't fell all that much better, actually kind of worse, but that could just be the potion or whatever trying to kill the bug. Then he also have to heal which never really felt good either so, it was fifty fifty chance that it's a good thing.
Emerson emerged from the shower a few minutes later with an oversized t-shirt as pajamas. She practically felt the pissy attitude radiating off the demon, but she sighed anyway and grabbed the pillows she had bought, pulling the cases onto them before tossing them on the bed and climbing in next to Bones. "It's going to get worse before it gets better," she whispered, though she wasn't sure if he was awake or not.
Bones was still asleep, but as soon as Emerson climbed into the bed, he subconsciously reached out to her and pulled her close. He'd probably be a sleep for a little while longer, which was probably a good thing, he heals faster when he's asleep. Hopefully by the time he woke up he'd feel at least a little better.
Emerson laughed softly as she realized Bones was actually sleeping, and pressed her face into his shoulder, too tired to wake him up and check his side. She listened to the steady, rhythmic breathing from him and slowly fell asleep, not regretting her decision.
About an hour later Bones woke up and looked over at Emerson, at first didn't remember what happened, but then he saw the bruising and split lip and was angry again. He sighed softly and carefully pulled his arm out from under her before standing up. He still felt like shit but he could at least stand now. He picked his bag off clothes up off the floor and walked downstairs to the living room. Once in there he pulled on some clean clothes, a pair of dark blue jeans and a grey t-shirt.
Emerson stirred, opening a still-exhausted eye to peek at the skulking demon before huffing and pulling a pillow to rest her head on. She wanted to speak with him but could barely move; it felt like she had been drugged. Besides, she couldn't stand to have him yelling at her again.
Bones sighed softly and shoved the rest of his clothes back into his bag before picking it back up and carrying it out to his truck. He slowly walked back into the house and ambled up the stairs to the guest bedroom. "Hey girl" he said and walked over to Copper and patted her side softly. "Come on girl let's go" he said and sighed softly as they both went back downstairs.
Emerson heard Bones yet again upstairs, and decided to change her mind. She groaned and sat up, pushing her slightly-shorter hair out of her face before sliding off the bed and walking to the door. In the hallway, she picked up the box and carried it downstairs. When she saw Bones in the doorway with Copper, she froze, confused. "Where are you going?" she asked, her voice rough from sleep.
"I'm leaving" Bones said and sighed softly and walked into the kitchen to get Copper's things. "It's not because I'm made at you either" he said and turned around to look at her. "I just don't see the point of staying together anymore" he said and sighed softly and looked down at his hands, hating this completely. "I mean I love you but I guarantee the next war is going to start up in a few months, weeks maybe" he said and looked up at Emerson, "Especially with my dad leading the charge" he said and ran a hand through his hair. "The war will last hundred of years, and we'll never be able to see each other. If we did you'd be killed for treason" he said and sighed softly. "And I just don't want to wait around for you to die in some pointless war, especially when I can't do anything to help or even try to protect you. I've lost someone I've loved before and I really rather not have to go through that again. I would have rather had just died then you do this to yourself" he said, actually talking calmly on the subject for once.
A ringing sound was in Emerson's ears by the time Bones finally finished talking -which honestly sounded to her like he was convincing himself more than telling her his plan. The bottles in the box clinked as her hands shook, and her breaths were shuddering and uneven. "You cannot leave. We just said we were staying togeth-" she stopped, trying to take a deep breath to seem collected, even though she felt like she was crumbling. "Please, please don't leave," she begged, setting down the box and gathering a little bit of the pajama shirt she wore to steady her fist. "I just gave up so much for you, Crispin, and you're leaving because you can't handle seeing me for the little time I have left? If you join your father, they'll kill me. They know why I..." She sobbed, fighting the tears stinging her eyes. "They know why I offered myself for that medicine." A terrifying thought occurred to her, and she didn't want to, but she felt like Bones was trying to hurt her, so she jabbed back. "Were you hired to do this?" she demanded, her cheeks finally stained with wet tears.
"Wow, if that's really what you think then maybe I should go" Bones said and grabbed Copper's bag of food before walking past her and out the door. He tossed it in the back of the truck and quickly went about gathering the rest of his stuff. When he was finished he looked at Emerson, "No I wasn't hired to do this, you're really not that special" he said his anger over the fact that she'd ever ask him that making him say that. "And if you think this is easy fro me then your wrong" he said, before walking out the door and over to his truck.
Emerson bristled, her face turning red. "Obviously it's easy for you, you're not even trying!" She closed her eyes before taking off after him, slamming her hand into the door of his truck to stop him momentarily from opening it. Her entire body shook as she begged through her teeth, "Please don't leave." She searched his face for any sign of remorse, but something in the back of her mind told her that he was right. That she wasn't special; that it had been a mistake for her to try to heal him; that she shouldn't have given up so many years of her life for the one person she'd let in -who would turn and stab her in the back the moment he was healthy enough to do so.
"I don't want to leave Emerson. I really don't" Bones said honestly, he hated what he was doing, but he didn't see any other way around it. But what am I suppose to do" he asked, actually close to tears himself. "In a few weeks you'll be gone, fighting in some war. I'll be alone again scared to death that something might happen to you, with out being able to do anything about it. It would kill me Emerson, waiting for you it would kill me" he said his voice a bit more husky. "What would we even do for these next few weeks. Act like the happy married couple, Kathrine and Randy, like nothings happened, just to have it all crash down around us again"
"You would rather just leave me here to wonder what's happening to you, rather than have a few more weeks?" Emerson questioned, her voice considerably lower and quieter now. She bit he lower lip only to hiss at the pain, turning her head away for a beat before looking back up to Bones' face. "It's still longer than the week you would have had with that goddamned parasite." She really, really hated his father for that. He had practically gone and ruined everything. She took a painful breath. "I wish I could figure some way out of what I told them -what they made me swear on." She lifted her foot to show the fresh branding on her ankle. "But I can figure that out." Her shoulders shook. "It would have killed me to watch you die."
