Andrew Chapman (andrew-chapman) | 58 comments Hello! Ok, this is my first thread! My book, Tripping the Night Fantastic, is a humorous Murder Mystery. The three main characters are useless drunks and only manage to solve the crime through misadventure and the finest misguided ideas know to man.

It's been getting a good response from readers so far, and if you fancy a read and wish to comment it is available today for free on Amazon. (Link below). It probably won't be free for a while after this but it's only £1.54 when the promotion weekend is over.

I am thick skinned and take criticism easily so don't be shy (likewise I'm not shy of compliments so fire them away as well).

Lorraine | 575 comments I read this yesterday,it has shades of Californication(American tv show with David Duchovney as a writer)about it.It was definitely not run of the mill.

message 12: by Andrew (new)

Andrew Chapman (andrew-chapman) | 58 comments A friend of mine said the same thing. And I guess it does have similarities. A writer with little care about what people think who drives a banged up car and gets up to mischief. Oh well, I don't mind the likeness. It soon becomes its own thing when the murder happens and the three men discover Merlin (hallucinogenic drug) and things get surreal.

I hope you found some enjoyment in it Lorraine.

Andrew Chapman (andrew-chapman) | 58 comments Tripping the Night Fantastic is now 77p!

Also, I thought you might find this interesting:

Let’s flashback to the past (date unknown – to me). Bad Cop are on their way to a gig in Chicago. Front man, Adam Moult, and guitarist, Alex Hartness, have been experimenting with opiates and mixing drugs. It’s 6am. Moult awakes to the sound of Hartness gasping for breath. When Moult get’s to him his face has turned blue. Moult freaks out. Hartness is pronounced dead.

Andrew Chapman (andrew-chapman) | 58 comments When I started writing, me and a friend, Danny, used to text each other three words and then we would have to write a short story about those things. For instance, one text said, “Goat, money, burgers.” Another one said, “My son, a sausage, 99 encyclopaedias.” We would have one day to write each story and would generally spend about an hour writing them. The above suggestions became a story about a giant magic goat that loved burgers and had the ability to travel in time, and the other was about a baby detective investigating a sausage related murder, the solving of which hung on a single misspelling in the Encyclopaedia Britannica.

They were funny, short, ridiculous stories that were never meant to be read by anyone except for us. They are kept in a secret file called, “Do Not Share”. They were writing exercises, and that was all.

However, seeing as I am beyond shame, I have decided to share one of these stories with you. Sadly, I can’t remember what the three words were (we wrote these stories several years ago). I came across it by accident recently and it made me laugh. The story is called…

Andrew Chapman (andrew-chapman) | 58 comments NEW POST - The Solemn Death of a Beloved Hard-drive.

RIP old friend. You were working, and then you were not. The reason for your demise is a mystery. Is it wrong to speak ill of the dead? Because, dear Hard-drive, although I’m sad you’re gone, you could have given me some notice. A sign maybe? I mean, when you were fine and well you would tell me about all kinds of problems that you knew very well I had no chance of comprehending. Like, “ERROR 501: Header values specify a configuration that is not implemented.” Great! Thanks for letting me know, I’m not sure what to do about it, but thanks for keeping me in the loop. So why not, for once, couldn’t you have said, “Hey, buddy, I think I’m really ill. You better back up all your shit.” That is all I ask. But you’re dead now, so what can you do?

Andrew Chapman (andrew-chapman) | 58 comments Good afternoon Goodreads! It’s been a while but here I am, back from the swamp of words that is novel writing. And I have some exciting news! So brace yourself. Sit back in your chair and hold on to your laptop for safety, this is bracing stuff. In a way.

I was thinking to myself, who are the greatest writers of old and how did they become popular? Charles Dickens and Sir Arthur Conan Doyle came to mind immediately. Both of these chaps first released their books in serial form. A chapter a week in a magazine or newspaper. So I have decided to do the same. The Accidental Scoundrel is being released one chapter at a time on Jottify.com. The first two chapters are there now and I will add a new one on a regular basis periodically. I’m not sure it will be weekly though. In the fast world we live in, and with all that is out there to grab our attentions, I will most probably add a new chapter every three days.

After the series is finished I will release The Accidental Scoundrel as a paperback and ebook on Amazon.

Pop over to Jottify via this direct link – http://jottify.com/works/the-accident... and have a look. I would love to know if anyone has tried this route themselves or if you think this is a good idea, or even a terrible one, let me know what you think.

So far I am listed as the most read author of the day, help me stay at the top by reading and enjoying each installment.

For now though that is all, I will try and come here more often and write interesting posts about wonderful things, but until then, have a good Easter!

message 48: by Andrew (new)

Andrew Chapman (andrew-chapman) | 58 comments Tripping the Night Fantastic needs a new lease of life. I have a new book coming out in a few months (called the Accidental Scoundrel) but my first book is feeling rather left out and would like a bit of attention. And rightly so. Poor thing. Sitting there in the dark corners of Amazon like an abandoned child.

It is a comedy murder mystery. It has adult themes running the whole way through and a fair amount of bad language. And also a lot of drug use, alcohol abuse, and hallucinating. So if you don't mind that sort of thing please do have a look. It is free to download today and tomorrow - http://www.amazon.co.uk/Tripping-Nigh...

message 49: by Andrew (new)

Andrew Chapman (andrew-chapman) | 58 comments It has been ages since I was here. I've been neglecting my mingling.

Since I was gone I released my second book, The Accidental Scoundrel. It has been receiving good reviews and some attention from people in the comedy writing world.

Anyway, I come here to share it with you. It is free today, and will be until the 19th July. I would love to here what you all think of it.

Andrew Chapman (andrew-chapman) | 58 comments Gallot knew things. Ask him and he’ll confirm it.

“Gallot,” you’ll say, “I hear you know things.”

“What do you know?” he’ll likely reply.

Gallot was a simple man, in my opinion. He wore this weird coat that had too many pockets and only one sleeve. I think he found it in a charity shop. He told me once he traded his shoes for a pair of shoes. He never elaborated. The shoes he was wearing had holes in them.

***

And so begins Gallot, a short story about a man with a philosophy on life that anyone who has ever experienced an existential crisis might appreciate.

***

I am experimenting with releasing single short stories on Kindle. I think it’s not going to work, due to the lowest price possible to set is 99c/99p, but I feel like testing the waters.

To help get the ball rolling I'm making it free to download for the next few days in the hope of generating some quick reviews.

It’s a short story. 5 minutes to read 2 minutes for a quick honest review.

https://www.amazon.co.uk/Gallot-Short...

Anyone had experience releasing short stories?
