Adam Dreaver | 2 comments I never read the book and had a computer programmer tell me the book's concept on a long night ride after work. I can't really remember the details other than what's in this posts title, and those I may have got wrong.

Basically a group of humans or humans who turned themselves into AI, are flying around in a space ship when they find this planet with what I recall were giant sheaths of algea or plant life shifting around in strange patterns on the surface of the planet.

Upon further investigation the the plant life was actually making some type of message and the plants were actually super advanced beings.

Andy | 2124 comments Greg Egan's Diaspora Diaspora, I think - the bit about the algae is one chapter adapted from his short story "Wang's Carpets" https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/1...

Thank you so much! I'm beyond grateful! Seriously... You don't know how much this means. I already started reading it and am in total love with it. OMG, you're the greatest! Do you have an amazon wish list or something?
