Lara (gurlwhowrites) | 8327 comments Matthew found himself blushing and he leaned his head against hers, a small smile forming on his features. He didn't know she had noticed those things about him. "You are incredibly perceptive, my love." he whispered, kissing her cheek. The world was bright and full of Christmas cheer, and yet he saw the pain and worry on her face. He gently turned it towards him, tipping it up so he could look in her eyes. "You're worried." he stated softly. "About of April?" he guessed. He knew she cared deeply for her twin. "You can call her when we arrive, if you wish." He offered, trying to help her out. He didn't want to see his love so stressed, not when they were drawing close to such a happy time of the years.

April looked up at him as he caught her wrist in his hand, and she nodded slowly. But could she let go of those feelings? Could she be vulnerable? It was an incredibly frightening prospect, and she wasn't sure she could manage it. She needed to be brave... she could be brave... right? Maybe? The only way she would find out would be if she tried. She leaned against Topher, closing her eyes and breathing deeply, letting the world slow around her as she focused on the sound of Tophers heartbeat. His words made her pause again. His heartbeat was hers? Her eyes filled with fresh tears and this time her arms just squeezed Topher a little tighter as the tears spilled over and ran down her cheeks. He must love her... for him to care this much. But that meant she was truly loved... a soft sob escaped her and she buried her face against him.

Maria was frightened about this whole thing, after all, she was not a young woman any longer, and was now much older than her sister had been, giving birth to her first child. Her sweet sweet sister... who didn't deserve to die, who deserved to live a long life caring for those she loved in that gentle manner of hers. She knew she wasn't as kind as her sister, but she also knew she had a stronger will. Maybe that would allow her to survive this. But already... she was exhausted. It was a lot of work carrying around a child this old... and the backache and sleepless nights weren't helping either. She hugged Thomas, her heart clenching when she felt his tears. So he was as scared as she was. Of course he was. He lost his last love to this. They both had lost someone they loved. "I'll be alright." She promised, her voice catching in her throat. She wasn't sure that she would be, but she didn't want him to worry. Especially not now that the moon was rising higher, and she'd have to say goodbye to him soon. The candles blew out and she hugged him tighter, not willing to let go.

Ella bit her lip, listening to the story, and wishing that such a horrible thing had never happened in the first place. Of all the godforsaken evil things to do to a man or a woman... poor Joyella... no wonder she was muttering and pacing all the time. The girl was worried sick for her fiancé. It was a good thing she had had the sense to hide Ren's finger and not show Joyella that he was now missing at least one. She kissed Donavon's cheek, not sure what to say, but wanting him to understand that she was there with him through this all. When Ren started to stir, she gasped, calling a nurse over as he coughed and blinked. "He's certainly awake." she said softly, hopeful. The nurse came over then and checked his morphine drip, as well as the IV, before checking his heartbeat and breathing. "Deep breaths, son. We're in the palace hospital. Do you know what day it is?" she asked, trying to see if there had been any brain damage, and whether or not he was still thinking coherently.

McKensie (that-one-girl) | 5564 comments Brooklyn smiled softly "I truly am trying not to be Matthew, this is the happiest of Christmas' I can recall...but it is the first without her. it's hard to change you know? Did you ever feel like this when you left Jack and your home? From what you have told me you seem very close." She slipped a piece of chocolate in her mouth letting it melt as she listened for his response. She didn't want to burden or stress him at all.

Topher slowly scooped her up under her legs and carried her to bed, the clock was chiming and tomorrow would be their first Christmas and he wanted her well rested. Joshua should be anxiously in bed waiting for old St. Nick and Rags was already snoring and admittedly dreaming as he was kicking around on the pillow on the floor. He helped her get into the nightgown she had left for his room and got her all tucked in "no more negative plaguing thoughts...tomorrow is Christmas and I have many plans for us you see."

Thomas swallowed as the tent was incased in darkness before the moon medallions began to glow. He slipped his charm off if his neck and placed it around hers before kissing her once more "this will protect you and give you the strength you need..." He promised and pressed his lips to her forehead before he heard the throat clear behind him. Rachelle had entered and he must depart. He went to the fire and just crumbled on the log next to Habi.
Rachelle smiled softly getting the medicine prepared for her to drink to begin the process. The tea would ease the pain and relax her to almost a sleep like state "drink this love I promise it will help..."

Renold mumbled thrashing in pain his body in shock as the nurse calmed him down "Joyella..." He kept muttering finally able to croak out words as if he was forcing himself not to breathe to ease the pain. Donavon knew what he had to do and went to his sister's room. Not saying anything he took her by her pale bony hand and led her to the hospital bed.

Lara (gurlwhowrites) | 8327 comments Matthew nodded, as he understood perfectly. He wrapped an arm around her, and held her close, just feeling the warmth between them for a minute. "My first Christmas away from home was a very very lonely one." He admitted, shrugging a little. "Jack and I are very close, and just like you and April, we had traditions. But we grew up in a poorer home, so we had to make do with what we had. Then one year... Jack managed to scrounge up enough money to send me to school... I don't think I'd ever been more homesick in my entire life." he smiled lightly at her, kissing her cheek. "Must have written my brother at least eight times a week, and he dutifully replied to all my letters. So yes, it's normal to feel this way the first time. And it will get easier in time, I promise."

April leaned into his shoulder as he scooped her up and carried her to his room, getting out the nightgown. She helped change into it, finding that she truly was tired, and certainly too tired to care much about the fact that he was helping her change. She yawned lightly and crawled up on the bed, letting him tuck her under the covers. Then she blinked open one eye and looked up at him. "Are you going to join me?" She asked, not really wanting to sleep alone, but not wanting to push things along too quickly, but also not sure if he even wanted to sleep there with her, or what his plans were... so she just asked. And also... what was this about plans for Christmas?

Maria watched Thomas leave and she bit her lip, wanting to beg him to stay, but she knew that would just make things harder on him, so she didn't. She missed him terribly already, and she hoped to see him again soon... She turned then as Rachelle handed her a cup of steaming liquid. She trusted Rachelle, and if she said it would help... Maria tentatively sniffed the liquid, and then took a sip, finding that it warmed her to the core immediately like honey seeping through her, and she took another sip, feeling the need to sit down some where. She decided to just plop down on the furs where she was standing, and managed to do so without rolling over. She took another sip and blinked sleepily, looking up at Rachelle. "What on earth... did you put in this?" She asked, a dreamy smile lighting on her features.
Habi looked up as Thomas sat down beside him, and he reached out to rest a reassuring hand on his shoulder. He didn't say anything, because he knew better than to do that, but he was willing to talk, should Thomas need that.

Ella watched as Donavon left, and she bit her lip, looking back at Renold. He was severely drugged, and still in pain. She watched as the nurse opened up his morphine drip again, to give him some relief, and then turned.
Joyella had been shocked when her brother came in and silently took her hand, being quite insistent on leading her somewhere. As they approached the hospital, she started to grow panicked, and fear showed on her gaunt features. And then she saw him, and a million thoughts flew through her head. When did he get back? And how? And how come she was only notified now? and how was he doing? And what exactly had been done to him? But she decided she would get those answers later. Right now... "Ren!" she cried, running over by his side and collapsing by his bed, nearly fainting from the stress of it all. "Oh Ren! Can you hear me? It's me... I'm here... I'm so sorry... I tried to save you. I could have saved you... I should have saved you..." she sobbed, leaning her forehead against the edge of his bed and reaching out to twine her fingers with his. Luckily it was the hand that had five fingers, or Joyella might have had a fit, figuring out about his other hand.

McKensie (that-one-girl) | 5564 comments Brooklyn smiled softly glad he was being so honest with her. She laced his fingers into hers and kissed his hands "I bet they were all well written...I can't believe that you were a poor little farm boy. It's so sweet...I may love you more, you grew into an accomplished and will be famous architect." She kissed his softly and pushed his hair back "I think that this may be our best Christmas ever." The train stopped and she exited to see an older version of Jack and a very pregnant woman standing waiting for them. Jack rushed to hug his brother "Matt! My dear brother...How are you?"

Topher looked down at her and smiled softly as he changed, he wrapped his arms around her waist and kissed her neck "if that's alright...you are so soft April..." He admitted and nuzzled her "to sleep with you angel...I mean it you'll see tomorrow. Santa doesn't bring gifts to girls that stay up all night..."

Rachelle smiled softly already positioning her and helping her out of her stockings "a special herb that will keep you calm and relaxed through the process..." She started to examine her as she lay down "that feel ok?" She asked keeping the energy calm and safe the perfect environment to bring a child into the world. She hummed softly the air warm from the heated coals warming the rags and basin of water.
Thomas swallowed looking at his friend "im scared...I lost Sada because of this...Maria is more mature in age what if her body is not ready? I love her and im fine just having Jennifer has my child but I can't lose her...I shant...please tell me Rachelle knows what she is doing..."

Donavon watched worried for her but she actually expressed emotion and that gave some relief. The maids started to feed her and Ren and she was actually partaking of it...she hadn't eaten in weeks...she was so frail and skeletal...
Ren started to come to and caressed her hair and face "My Joy..." He said softly still slurring his heavy words as the medication kept him sedated and out of pain. He pulled her in his arms and just held her refusing to let go. He felt tears splash on his face and watched her "what happened...to my rose...you withered..."

Lara (gurlwhowrites) | 8327 comments Matthew chuckled at that. "Incredibly well written." He agreed. "and I'm hoping this is definitely the best Christmas yet." he agreed, grabbing their luggage and walking off the train with her. He immediately hugged Jack, thrilled to see him. "Great! And so happy to be done school! And how's the happy couple?" he grinned, nodding to Clara who looked about ready to burst.
She smiled politely and shook his hand. "We're doing well, thank you." She turned to Brook and smiled. "And this must be the lovely Brooklyn I hear so much about. How are you? Did you find the train ride alright?" She asked. "I know it can be rather a long trip..."

April found a smile spreading over her face as he wrapped his arms around her and kissed her neck. She immediately felt safe once more, and she allowed her eyes to close as she let out a happy sigh. "Alright. But don't let me sleep in." She insisted. "And about me being... soft? Thank you. I think?" She laughed lightly then, enjoying the giddy feeling of excitement that had suddenly taken over her. She hadn't felt this excited for a Christmas in a long long time, and she fell asleep in Topher's arms to the sound of the snow falling outside. "Goodnight Topher." She murmured as she drifted off.

The world was warm and blurry and strangely comforting and Maria just lay back and closed her eyes, a sort of relaxed smile on her face. "No no go ahead... everything feels just lovely." She said in a sort of breathy voice. "I could get used to this sort of thing..." She laughed softly, not having a care in the world.
Habi put is arm around Thomas's shoulder and just listened as he spoke, understanding how rough this must be for him... to be going through the same thing that killed his last wife. Habi knew that Maria was older, and that pregnancy was usually harder for older women, but not impossible, and besides, "Maria is a strong woman." he stated, voicing his thoughts. "And I can state with absolute certainty that Rachelle knows exactly what she is doing. Your wife is in good hands." he vowed, placing a hand over his heart and smiling.

Ella walked over to Donavon and took his hand in hers, squeezing it. "You did the right thing." She whispered, leaning her head against his shoulder.
Joyella accepted some of the cheese and meat the nurses were trying to shove down her throat, insisting that she eat, even though she only had thoughts for Ren. But even after one bite she was immediately full, and refused the rest, as her stomach had shrunk after so long not eating. It would take a while to work back up to big meals again. She helped Ren pull her up onto the bed and then she just tucked her face into the blankets around him, not wanting him to see her this way, so ridden with guilt and sickly. "I'm so sorry... I could have saved you... I tried...." she murmured, wiping the blankets at her eyes to keep him from seeing her tears. It hurt to feel again, and it hurt to see him so in pain. "I thought they were going to kill you..." She whispered, in explanation for her withering, as if that made everything make perfect sense.

McKensie (that-one-girl) | 5564 comments Brooklyn smilrd and hugged the woman who was very close to her own age. "Very well, the train was as mystical as the polar express itself." She beamed and supported her to the carriage "how far along are you? If you were my patient I would have you in bed rest at this stage the baby has dropped for sure..." She placed her hand on her stomach feeling the position "no pain or discomfort?"
Jack chuckled watching the two women bond and instantly become friends "that's a pair we will have to be careful of...im well, the new book is coming out on Christmas Day and yet all I can think about is Clara and the baby...she doesn't talk to me about it, is that normal? I try to give her space but...it's her first child!"

Topher awoke early and set everything up for Christmas morning. Joshua was still old enough to believe in the jolly fat man so he wanted it magical as possible for him. Breakfast was set up was fresh expensive oranges and jams and the most precious butters and spreads for their warm waffles and flapjacks stacked to the roof. He had a ring in his pocket and was debating...has been debating all week on whether to give it to her. He knew not to rush her but...he was so ready! He knew he'd be a good husband for her.

Rachelle shook her head amazed, examining Maria before had been a challenge she was untrustworthy and very jumpy but the herb truly did wonders as her father said it would. She couldn't push in this state obviously but she wasn't in pain or discomfort as she eased the child slowly barely using any force just enough to slide it down. She knew the hard part was coming but as long as Maria stayed calm this delivery would be easy and both mom and baby would be healthy.
Thomas nodded knowing to trust his best friend and sipped his beer trying to stay calm and trust in the power of the women. But he absolutely would charge in there in a minute if it wasn't forbidden "any children in your future?...or are the rumors true?" He said softly knowing the camp knows everything about everyone even things that should be private.

Ren brushed her hair back and nuzzled her soft warm skin "im not dead..." He assured and rubbed her back "we both need to heal and I think love will be the cure..." He said softly as he kissed her, starting to understand a little more about what was going on. "just had to get back to make you my wife..."

Lara (gurlwhowrites) | 8327 comments Clara smiled brightly, climbing in the carriage with her. "Oh that's wonderful." She nodded, "I'm actually due any day now. No pain or anything yet." She assured. "I did hear, though, that you are at medical school. How thrilling! How are you finding your studies?" She asked, interested in the life of the woman who would likely become a sister in law.
Matthew chuckled softly and nodded, watching the woman converse for a moment before looking back to him. "They certainly get along fine. Another book then! Well that's exciting!" he said, patting his shoulder in congratulations. "Though I can say I would probably be worried about the baby too, if in your place. Brooklyn is a skilled doctor though, I'm sure she can help make sure delivery runs smoothly." He assured. "I wouldn't worry too much... but wouldn't it be wonderful to have a Christmas child? "
Clara frowned lightly. "Might not be too much to ask for. Feels like the baby's finally moving around a bit." She admitted, having picked up on the boy's conversation. "Ok. No. Moving around a lot actually."

April woke up early the next morning to a beaming face above her. "Miss April?" Joshua asked, "Are you awake?" April's face lit into a soft smile and she sat up, hugging him. "I am now, Joshua, are you ready to go see what Saint Nic brought?" She asked, watching as the little boy nodded and bounced around on the bed. "Oh yes, oh yes! Let's go! The kitchen smells lovely!" April laughed easily and got up off the bed, taking his hand "Alright, well let's go see then!" She walked down the hallway and gasped. She could see the work that had been done and shook her head slowly, amazed. "Oh Topher.... this is amazing!"

Maria kept her eyes closed, just enjoying lying there relaxed and calm, the world seeming to be at ease. She didn't have any stressful thoughts what so ever, and she wasn't even aware of the baby slowly being slid out. That is until pressure started to build and she opened her eyes again, blinking to try and clear them. "What's happening now?" She slurred, her brow wrinkling.
Habi found heat sliding up his neck and colouring his cheeks. "And what rumours have you been listening to?" he questioned, raising a brow as he took a sip of his own beer, watching the fire dance around the logs. How fast news travelled throughout the camp... it never ceased to amaze him.

Joyella hugged him tight, the tears falling steadily, and it felt good to release that emotion. She could feel herself slowly healing, and it was a wonderful feeling. She had Ren back. "Oh Ren...." They would be married... they could plan the wedding now... he wasn't dead. He would heal. She would heal... they could get married, and she would be his wife. "I want... I want to be married to you." She whispered, lifting her head to kiss his cheek and then nuzzle her face against his neck. "I want it so badly."

McKensie (that-one-girl) | 5564 comments Brooklyn smiled softly "I actually just graduated and I found them marvelous, im hoping to start my own practice for the less fortunate without funds to go to a hospital...Matthew and I have large dreams, something we share in common." She frowned as she said the baby was moving around, she massaged her belly trying to find the position and smiled at her discovery "looks like we'll have a Christmas baby indeed. Either hurry up the carriage or stop somewhere with a bed and running water this baby is anxious to come."
Jack looked at his wife worriedly and searched her face for any pain or discomfort. Taking her slender delicate hand in his he squeezed it kissing each finger "deep breaths darling we have a very skilled doctor that will take excellent care of you and our little one."

Topher put a finger to his lips as Joshua wasn't watching them "I woke up to this same as you. Saint Nic really out did himself this year." He praised and gave the wrapped bone to Rags who promptly began gnawing and wiggling his butt in the air pleasd as a puppy could be. He saw Josh start to tear into the wrapped parcels and shoon his head "food first Josh then we shall all take a turn opening gifts." He pulled out the chair for April and poured them all some egg nog.

Rachelle smiled softly "the baby is crowning honey, I can see the top of the head...I just need you to push while I catch the baby...think you can do that?" She smoothed her hair back giving a comforting smile as her eyes shone in the candlelight nothing but love and encouragement. She grabbed her hand in hers "just squeeze my hand Maria, one big push and your baby will be here."
Thomas pat arm in a friendly gesture "it's nothing to be ashamed of Habi...things don't stay quiet around here, she's carrying your child...before the wedding...I mean they can't expect otherwise. After you pulled her out of the fire how could you not?..."

Ren smiled gently and traced her delicate features "let's put some meat on those bones first shall we?...I mean the wedding dress you picked out would drown you..." He said pecking her nose and sighing "I just want you healthy Joyella...both of us in perfect shape...as a reward we shall be married."
Abby smiled as she watched from the doorway glad to see her friend doing better with the man she loved. She bit her lip twisting her hands as she worried about Reece. He was off to war and she was very proud but why did he have to leave her alone?...she was in trouble and she told no one. Knowing that she would be chastised. Reece didn't even know and she wasn't showing at all.

Lara (gurlwhowrites) | 8327 comments Clara frowned, not entirely understanding what was going on at all, and not sure why Jack was looking at her in such a worried manner, until finally all the words clicked into place and her eyes widened. "The baby is coming now?" She gasped. She didn't need an answer, as she doubled over then and clutched her stomach, frowning. "Oh... oh! Why does it feel so strange all of a sudden?" she asked, nearly forgetting to breathe, before Jack's words came back to her and she tried to breathe through pursed lips.
Matthew had frowned in worry, and immediately stuck his head out the window to tell the driver to speed it up. The horses started off at a gallop, rocking the carriage, but taking them away faster. "The closest place now is our own house, but we should be there soon." he promised, worried. Clara was having a baby in the carriage!?

April's face lit up and she nodded eagerly. "Of course! My goodness I do wonder how he managed to get all this wonderful stuff down the chimney!"
Joshua sheepishly looked up and put down the gifts he had been trying to open, immediately coming to sit at the table. "Magic April! He's got magic!" He stated cheerfully. As he sat there eagerly waiting for his food to be dished out. "Eat quick, eat quick!" he urged, already downing his eggnog and pouring syrup over his flapjacks at the same time.
April laughed merrily, taking her time with hers, wanting to enjoy this meal, and this moment with such happy people.

Crowning... crowning already? My goodness. "Well that was fast..." She slurred, trying to push, trying to help, but it was rather hard to work when she didn't feel like doing anything. "My muscles are jello...." She complained, trying to push again, and managing a little, but only weakly. "Is it helping at all?" she asked, still blinking sleepily.
Habi's sheepish smile turned into something more relieved and he nodded. "Well it won't come as any surprise for me to say that the rumours are true. I'm excited and thrilled and nervous, and worried all at once." he said honestly. "But I guess you'd be no stranger to those emotions." he smiled a little, knowing his friend had already been there.

Joyella nodded, knowing she was as skinny as a toothpick, and would no longer fit her wedding dress. "I'll try to eat more in the next little bit... gain some more weight." She promised, even though the thought of eating a lot right now made her feel sick. She wanted them to be happy and have a good wedding too. "And I want you healthy. I want us both healthy too... when will we plan the wedding for? When will be a goal?" She asked softly.
Ella turned to see her sister standing in the door, and she smiled kindly at her, walking over and squeezing her shoulders in a one arm hug. "How's my favourite sister?" She asked, smiling and nudging her nose against her forehead. "All's well with you? Reece has still been writing, yes?" She asked, knowing that having her love in the war was hard on her sister.

McKensie (that-one-girl) | 5564 comments Brooklyn got serious and moved the luggage so Clara could recline back and relax"there's no time we can't move her at this stage, the baby is already in the canal..." She felt frustrated not having any gloves or tools, nothing was prepared for this moment. She tossed the soiled stockings out the window and felt for the baby surprised to feel how far along it was "Clara I need you to open your mouth and breathe deeply all the way to your stomach...focus on Jack alright?"

Topher gave Joshua a look that said much more then him ever opening his mouth "we shall enjoy this meal together...it probably was hard work for the jolly fat man and he'd rather we enjoy it then inhale it." He pecked April's cheek and cut up Joshua's pancakes for him slowly trying to ease the rush the young boy was feeling. Yes, it was exciting and wonderful but he paid a lot and therefore worked hard hours for them to have a breakfast feast.

Rachelle eased the baby out and smiled as she screamed and fussed "You have a beautiful baby girl Maria." She praised frowning at the marks on her skin almost like tattoos "I'll be right back..." She promised and wrapped both the mother and baby up with blankets as she took the girl to her father "Sir...these marks...ice never seen anything like it..."

Ren nodded and considered a reasonable time "what about the first week of spring? We will be healthy and you will have your flower meadow wedding you dreamed of. But you have to gain weight and I will have to be able to do everything I could before..." Well except wear a wedding ring as that was the finger that was chopped off.
Abby smiled leaning her head on her sister's shoulder "yes..,some, he doesn't have much time but I appreciate them all the same...how are you? How was the honey moon have you gone to the doctor yet?"

Lara (gurlwhowrites) | 8327 comments Clara leaned back, arching her back a bit to try and ease the pressure that was building. She knew it was the child, but she didn't think it would fit, with how large it felt. She did open her mouth though, as instructed breathing as deep as she could a couple times before a pained cry escaped her lips, and then she kept breathing, her hand searching for Jack's, and when she found it, she gripped it tight. "I'm having a baby in a carriage!" she groaned, half in disbelief, half just for something to say.
Matthew respectfully kept his gaze away from the tangle of messy skirts and just kept glancing at his brother to make sure he was doing alright, and then back to his girlfriend, who seemed even more beautiful on the job.

Joshua caught the look and shrank down smaller in his chair, lowering the flapjack he had speared with his fork, and set it back down on his plate, sheepishly finishing cutting it. "Yes, of course... I mean, eat slow!" he amended, still clearly very excited and anxious as he ate in he rushed manner, but half the speed he had been eating before. April helped dish out some of the berries that sat on the table, and she took her time adorning her pancake, making sure it looked pretty enough to paint, before she dared to pick up a fork. "Thank you." she whispered to Topher, hoping he understood how appreciated this was, before she started on the meal.

Maria just smiled dreamily, still in a little bit of a haze. "A girl... how lovely. Jennifer has a sister." She crooned, wanting to see her child, but really too happy to say anything as Rachelle took the baby and left. Her father looked up, staring at the still slightly blue body of the newborn child, and his eyebrows rose. "It's been years since I've seen anything similar to these..." he whispered, running a finger along one swirl. "This child certainly is going to be something special... tell Maria nothing of it for now. I would not want her to worry before I have done more research and found what exactly these designs mean."

Joyella thought about that. The first week of spring... it gave her a few months to work on getting healthy again. And they could have an outdoor wedding, with lightning bugs in jars to light the isle.... oh that would be lovely. "Alright. Spring then. I shall mark it away on my calendar." She vowed, lifting his hand to kiss it. It was then that she noticed something was different, and when she saw what exactly that was, her face went ashen.
Ella nodded, knowing exactly how hard it was for a man who was off at war to find time to write. "I'm glad he still writes you." She said honestly. "My honeymoon was wonderful. It was exciting, as America is such a strange and lively country!" She stated. "But enjoyable all the same. I have seen a doctor... and as of yet, there is no heir. But we are hopeful." She said, trying to keep the worry out of her voice.

McKensie (that-one-girl) | 5564 comments Brooklyn smiled softly trying to comfort the panicked woman "this is rather common you know...and it's clean and comfortable enough..." She tried to coax and slowly eased in trying to change the position of the baby so it was more comfortable "you are doing so well Clara...you are a trooper, first baby and you already are ready to push!"
Jack smiled kissing her head and nuzzling her neck "it will be a great story to tell the baby when they get big...just focus on me Clara you are doing so well...squeeze me hand baby...just think I wouldn't be able to be with you if it wasn't happening now."

Topher smiled softly and nodded and squeezed her hand softly under the table glad for the small nod in his direction. He ate his pancake and glanced at the clock before nodding to his brother to go ahead and open his gifts. He grabbed the tiny box hidden at the top of the tree. It was pearl white with a satin red bow. He motioned for April to follow him to the outside where the dawn was breaking and the snow softly following "if you are not ready for this I understand it can just be a promise...a promise that I will love and cherish you till the day I die...that I will be there as your support and friend whenever you need me...that we are better together then we ever were apart..." He opened the clasp revealing the elegant diamond ring that his mother left for him and he had reset and designed to fit April's style better.

Rachelle quickly dressed the little girl up and brought her back to the tent to be with her mother. She sniked placing the baby in Maria's arms "any idea about what to name her?..." She said softly as she cleaned up the after birth and placed a heated fur to keep the soreness from creeping in unexpectedly.
Thomas was beyond happy to hear he had a girl and everyone was alright "when can I be with my wife? I need to see her! I need to meet my baby girl!"

Ren caught the look and cupped her face making her look at him directly and shook his head "do not dwell on what is the past...it does not harm who I am and it was a simple gold band I lost...do not cry or fret, I love you...and this is a small loss..."
Abby slowly felt her stomach shift unconfortably "I am sorry Ella...you will have a child when it's time...be grateful you are not having one when you aren't ready..."

Lara (gurlwhowrites) | 8327 comments There were so many things to thing about all at once, the bouncing of the carriage, the pressure that was building very uncomfortably in her, Brooklyn saying things to her, Jack saying things to her, her breathing, and also trying to push. It was all very stressful and overwhelming, but she did manage to nod a lot to everything that was said, just puffing as she breathed heavily in and out, suddenly hit by the strong urge to push. "Can I push?" She asked, her brow wrinkling as she focused, all of this so new and frightening.
Matthew was rather impressed that no one had freaked out yet or had a panic attack, and he had the sneaking suspicion that he might be the one to end up breaking down from the stress of having a woman giving birth in a carriage, and wouldn't that be embarrassing? So he tried to look as calm and rational about this as Jack and Brooklyn were, even as he was reminded exactly why he was not a doctor.

When Joshua and April finished their meals, and Topher gave the signal that Joshua could go open presents, the boy practically tore into the other room, kneeling by the gifts and starting to gather up all the ones with his name on them.
April walked outside with Topher where the early morning sun was glittering on the snow, and she took one look at that little box and gasped, her heart already fluttering twice the speed in her chest. He was proposing... he was making a promise to her... to love her forever... he was proposing on Christmas! April sat down in the snow, feeling a little lightheaded from the shock of it, and not wanting to faint, for that would look horrible, and feel horrible too. "Oh Topher..." She breathed, staring at the ring. Yes, no? Yes, no? Dive in or stay safe? "I-I... I....." She swallowed, closing her eyes and telling herself to be brave. "Yes." She breathed, softer than a whisper, and then her eyes filled with tears. "Yes!" She said a little louder.

Maria smiled when she saw her baby, everything still quite foggy from the drug, but she could recognize her girl, and she just wanted to hold her. "Thomas and I haven't picked a name yet..." she slurred. "We'll choose one together...." she insisted, running a finger over the little girl's cheek.
Habi smiled and pushed him toward the tent. "Well go on then. It's allowed for you to go in now. Go see your baby." He encouraged, a huge smile on his features. He was happy to see his friend so happy.

Joyella looked at him, finding the stare so intense and piercing, and she found herself nodding slowly. The past. He was right. It was in the past. No more fretting. Now more dwelling on it. They were going to heal and get married. But she had to know... She ran her thumb over his hand. "Does it hurt?" She asked softly.
Ella nodded, swallowing down the lump of worry that had formed in her throat. She hoped her sister was right. She hoped she would have a child soon, to keep the country and her husband happy. But the tone in Abby's voice didn't sound right, and Ella frowned lightly. "Abby... you don't mean..." She said, suddenly worried. Was her little sister...?

McKensie (that-one-girl) | 5564 comments Brooklyn was easing the head out as she asked and nodded "strong pushes Clara...this baby is beautiful and wants to meet its mama!" She smiled as she felt her body push and slowly turned the shoulders and just like that she had a screaming red child in her arm. Taking her overcoat she wrapped the child up trying to keep it warm as she passed it into Clara's arms while she sawed at the umbilical cord with a pair of sewing scissors. The carriage lurched and luggage fell around them. Jack blocked the baby and Clara from the hits but Brooklyn caught the corner of a large one right on the edge of her eye and temple and was knocked out.

Topher's heart was thudding nearly painfully against his rib cage as she sat and looked at him in pure shock...did she not like the ring? Was it too much? Did she only love him out of pity?...bombarded with negative thoughts he held his breath not even hearing her answer "w-what?..." He stuttered after the final yes was said. Oh please answer again angel...why wasn't he listening?! She was crying was that a good sign or bad? He took her hand in his "say it again please..."

Rachelle smiled softly and looked up as Thomas rushed in nearly knocking over the pan of coals and basin of now dirty water in his wake as he knelt by his wife's side. "Maria...are you alright? Are you in any pain?" He started his usual worried script and banter until he saw his child and just stopped. He was in awe at the tiny thing in his wife's arms...he never saw Jennifer till she was 2 and he was stable enough to take care of her...this right here was miraculous. He felt tears stream down his cheeks and quickly brushed them away as he moved the blankets "oh...its a girl..." He breathed softly and kissed his wife "we have a baby girl..."

Ren winced as she ran her thumb over the raw and jagged stitch line and nodded not wanting her to be upset but knowing she would hate him if he was ever dishonest with her "I stabbed the man that did it..." He admitted quietly "that's when the threats and punishment got worse because they knew I was stronger...I don't remember much after that...except your brother coming...then waking up here..."
A parliament member cleared his throat "your majesty you are needed for some official business." He quickly rushed her away without a second thought and Abby was left alone in the hall softly crying never feeling so alone in her life. She headed to the gazebo where her and Reece had spent hours talking and holding eachother "come back..." She whispered wrapped up in his garden coat trying to feel comfort from it.

Lara (gurlwhowrites) | 8327 comments Clara nodded and grit her teeth, pushing as hard as she could a few times, and then gasping as she felt the baby emerge, all squalling and slightly bloody. She barely had anytime to be thrilled that she had a child, however, as a moment later luggage was falling around them, hitting her love, and Brooklyn. She shrieked in surprise and dismay, all at the same time that the rest slid out of her and the pain started to register. She found herself sobbing and frightened, clutching their child to her.
Matthew did not have time to react, when a large suitcase fell and hit Brooklyn square in the head, and he shouted, immediately scooping it up and pulling it off her, lifting her into his arms. "Brook... Brook... wake up." he said urgently, frightened by the blood that was running down her face. "Wake up!" he begged, growing more terrified due to Clara's frightened sobs, and the squall of the baby and the rock of the carriage and the blood everywhere, from the birth, and from injuries, it was too much.

April looked up at him, her whole body trembling. She was making a huge decision, a huge step in a direction that was very frightening to her, but she was trusting Topher, and trying to be brave. At first he looked concerned, and she thought she had said the wrong thing. Then he asked her to say it again, and she forced her mouth to work one more time, her heart thudding in her ears. "Yes. Yes, I will marry you." she managed, looking extremely nervous, and slightly shocked at how she had managed to even say anything at all.

Maria smiled dreamily as her love entered the tent, and she reached out to twine her fingers with his. "Isn't she lovely?" She asked softly, not having even seen the marks on her yet, she was just so thrilled to have had a child. She kissed Thomas back and then relaxed back on the hay, feeling weak all of a sudden as the drugs started to wear off. "She's such a beautiful girl... we need a name, Thomas. We need to name her."

Joyella nodded slowly, feeling some sort of grim satisfaction that the man who had done this to her love was dead, or at least seriously injured. "I'm so sorry, I tried to save you... this wouldn't have happened if I had been able to save you... if they had listened." She stopped then, a slight frown crossing her features. "My brother got you? How? How have you even been here in the first place... I wasn't told until just now..." She said, confused.
A telegram showed up at the palace, addressed to Abby, and one for Reece's mother as well. The telegram was very short and to the point, it simply said: 'We regret to inform you that lieutenant Witherstone has been pronounced missing in action'.

McKensie (that-one-girl) | 5564 comments The carriage arrived at the house promptly and the maid and footman rushed in to help the madness erupting inside. The maid got the baby and Clara into the house and cleaned them up promptly giving Clara medicated tea to help the anxiety and pain. The footman called another carriage to get Brooklyn to a doctor as they tore out the seats of the carriage since they were saturated in blood and birth excess.
Brooklyn slowly opened her eyes and her right one was stained red from the bleeding. She winced trying to see him clearly but it was difficult "the baby..."

Topher knew the nervous trepidation was not a negative thing, this was a ginormous step for her and he hugged her against her suppressing her nervous system to calm her down. He pressed his lips to her hair over and over "you have not a clue how eager I am to marry you love...it will be wonderful...do not be afraid..." He whispered and rubbed her back and down her hip "Josh will be thrilled..."

Thomas stroke her hair and smiled watching the baby and rocked the baby against his chest "you name her darling...I named our little Jennifer so...you name this little one, Hows your pain level darling can I bring you anything?"
Rachelle smiled and went to her Habi and hugged him around the neck "hi...so I felt the baby shift...I think we need to be married before I show...so can we do this?...now?"

Donavon came in and sighed "Joyella...they never received your letter...Abby stopped it...and I got Ren home...I lied but I did it to protect you Joy...they would have used you..,and I couldn't let that happen."
Abby shook her head shocked and covered her mouth running to his mom's house "I need you..." She whispered and hugged the woman that was like her mom "im pregnant and no one can know..."

Lara (gurlwhowrites) | 8327 comments Clara drank the tea, eager to get some sanity, and when she finally found a bed, it was a relief to be lain on it with the child, just trying to breathe and calm her racing heart, gather her thoughts again. She looked over at Jack and managed a weak smile. "We're alright now, right?" She asked softly.
Matthew accompanied Brook to the hospital, not leaving her side for a moment. He was so very frightened for her, and all the blood all over the place was scaring him. He held Brook's hand, rubbing his thumb gently over the back. "The baby and Clara are both fine, thanks to you." He assured her gently.

April leaned into Topher and closed her eyes, taking deep breaths in and out as her heart slowed down and the weight of this all sank into her. She was getting married! She was going to be married to Topher... was going to be his wife! She hugged him back tightly, tucking her head on his shoulder. "I'm sure Josh will be very thrilled." she agreed. "This was a very wonderful Christmas surprise, Topher, thank you."She said, meaning it. It was probably the nicest gift she had ever gotten. She held out her hand. "I suppose I should try on the ring...?"

Maria smiled down at their daughter, who had stopped fussing and was now falling asleep, all bundled up tightly in the blankets. "Alright." she said softly, exhausted, and wanting to rest, but going to stay up for the naming of their child. "Then her name will be Nym." She said, leaning her head on Topher's shoulder. "Just don't go anywhere." She mumbled, as the exhaustion overtook her and she fell asleep.
Habi looked up as Rachelle came out and he grinned, hugging her and stealing a quick kiss. "I assume delivery went well?" he asked, smiling brightly. "Marriage would be wonderful... but right now? As in right now, right now? Who do you want to marry us?" He asked, reaching out to lay a hand on her stomach. "Little baby is getting active?" He nuzzled her cheek. "I love you so much."

Joyella looked up and stared at Donavon. Her brother... had lied to her? He was the reason Ren hadn't been able to come home sooner? He was the reason he was hurt more, when that could have been prevented through her agreement? Ren wouldn't have lost his finger if Donavon had let her save him. And Abby had been a part of it too? Indescribable pain and anger clouded Joyella's features, and a single tear rolled down her cheek. "I could have saved him." She choked, looking down and away from her brother, not even being able to stand seeing him, it hurt too badly.
Reece's mother was already crying quietly in the kitchen, her head in her hands when Abby came in, but she looked up and then immediately embraced her, holding her tight and crying with her. "My poor dear..." She said, startled by the news of the baby. "Does.... did Reece know?" She asked softly, knowing already the answer. Her son would have come back from the war if he had known.

McKensie (that-one-girl) | 5564 comments Jack was stroking her hair back and nuzzled his baby girl since he finally got the chance to hold her. The room was peaceful and warm not a drop of blood in sight and he felt immensely better "everything is perfect now...except little one needs a name. We can't just keep calling her little one..." He teased and kissed her nose "she's looks like her mama...delicate with long gorgeous eyelashes..." He mused just wanting to keep looking at her and all the small details that make her his daughter, he was infactuated with this small human.
Brooklyn was being rushed to surgery and her hand dropped from his as the metal gurney went through swinging doors. The nurse got Matthew situated in the waiting room with a cigar and a book, his brother's book ironically enough and told him to relax and wait.

Topher chuckled feeling foolish that he completely forgot about the ring. He bent down in the snow and picked it up, brushing the powdery snow off of it and slipping it on her finger. Holding his breath until it hit the bottom, relieved that it did fit. He kissed her palm pressing it to his face "shall we wait out here or go inside to see what Josh is up to?"

Thomas smiled softly covering her up with furs as she just slept. He rocked the bundle of blankets in his arms her little eyes and nose just barely peeking through "Nym it is..." He breathed and kissed her forehead. He saw Jennifer peeking into the tent and motioned her in as he gestured to Maria "your mum is finally getting some sleep...but this is your baby sister Nym." He passed the bundle to Jennifer's awaiting arms.
Rachelle smiked up at him as she rested her head on his shoulder "delivery couldn't have gone better...from this point on we are adding that herb for every surgery and pain a person must go through...she didn't scream or cry once...it was so peaceful and I think it helped the child not to come into a stressful environment." She explained and ran her hand over her own stomach "not large enough to kick or anything but I feel it swimming around in there...and I can't hide my figure much longer...what about my father? He knows of the babe and has no judgement...we could get married by the waterfalls..."

Donavon felt his whole soul crumble as she looked at him with such disdain and hatred...it hurt worse however when she stopped looking. He knew that...he knew it was his fault Ren was so hurt, but it was also his fault that Joyella was safe and still betrothed to Ren didn't that mean anything? But he said nothing as he bowed and left the room trying to find a moment of privacy to just cry...
Ren her close trying to comfort her "hey...enough...what's done is done...if the letter had sent we could never be together, never have the spring wedding with the fireflies...wounds heal but..my heart wouldn't if you were someone else's..."
Abby shook her head the tears starting to fall "you are the only one I've told.,.that knows...I couldnt...I couldn't risk my letters being read...its a disgrace and I...I know that...we aren't even engaged but I had to be with him...he was leaving...I was scared..." She whispered tearfully "and now he's..," she couldn't even say it as she buried her face in the women's shoulder.

Lara (gurlwhowrites) | 8327 comments Clara blushed lightly, at his comments about the baby looking like her, and she smiled, leaning into him and allowing her exhausted body to relax as they looked down at their daughter. "She'll always be our little one..." She smiled. "But we should brainstorm names..." she thought about the first ones to come to mind and shared them, "What about Annabelle? Or just Anna, Belle, or Elle?" She suggested. Nothing made her happier than the love she saw in his eyes for their child.
Matthew tried desperately to follow her into the surgery, but was disgruntledly pushed to the waiting room where he flopped in a chair and just stared at the cigar and book in his hand. He reached up the other to rub his temple as his eyes closed. "Dear God let her be alright." He mumbled, stressed out of his mind.

April watched as he slid on the ring, holding her breath... but it was a perfect fit, and such a beautiful ring.... she couldn't even believe it. She had a ring on her finger... an actual diamond ring! She was engaged! A huge smiled broke out on her features and she threw her arms around his neck kissing him once more before she managed to stand. "Let's go in and get dried off again, and see what sort of wonderful things Saint Nic brought for Joshua."

Jennifer walked in, her eyes wide and curious as she came over to her parents, peering at the baby. It was so tiny! Jennifer hadn't ever seen a newborn before, and she was astounded that humans even started out at that size. She was used to the burly masses of sailor that crewed her father's ship. Surely they didn't all start out this tiny... "She's so small!" She immediately stated, her eyes wide in interest.
Habi smiled, knowing that Thomas and Maria probably both appreciated that it was a painless delivery. "Well that's wonderful to hear." He kissed her cheek. "And it's good to know that I'll not have to suffer through any screaming when this little one comes." He teased, rubbing his hand gently over her stomach. "I'm sure you're father is just fine. Should I ask him? Or is there a better chance he'll do it if you do?" he asked, eager to be married to her either way... and under the waterfalls would be the most romantic thing.

Ella had finished up what she had been called away to do, and was on her way back to talk with Abby again, worried about their past conversation, when she found Donavon in his music room. She walked up to him hesitantly, and only when she was close did she see the slight tremors in his shoulders. Was he crying? "Donavon... is everything alright?" She asked softly.
Joyella shook her head, her eyes trained on a spot on the wall as the emotions stewed in her, threatening to bring hot stinging tears of betrayal to her eyes. Both Abby and Donavon... her two closest friends had betrayed her... her and her love. "But you would have been safe. And I could have had him killed so I could return to you." She whispered, her voice catching.
Reece's mother wrapped her arms tightly around Abby, holding her close as she would her own daughter, for she truly thought of Abby that way. "I don't blame you dear... I'm just sorry that all this had to happen all at once." She whispered, her voice broken. Her son... where was he? Dead? Dying? "But there's always hope..." she said softly.

McKensie (that-one-girl) | 5564 comments Jack smiled "how about Bella Rose? I think that's simply lovely, and she can choose by which name she will go by." He got the wet nurse to feed her and tuck her into the nursery "how are you doing lovely? Is the pain decreased? Brooklyn is in surgery...and Matthew is a wreck..."
The nurse walked out to Matthew and sighed "sir we have some news...the eye that was damaged is now blinded...we couldn't save it but she will be fine, may have slight migraines but...she will live a relatively normal life. Would you like to see her? She's been asking for you...and a shot of whiskey for some reason..."

Topher smiled and led her back in getting them both a cup of tea and watching Joshua "what did St. Nik bring you Josh?" The paper was scattered all over the living room with many assorted toys. He picked up a pair of good hand knit socks "these are nice Josh...they are from April did you say thank you?"

Thomas chuckled and showed her how to hold the baby and stroke the soft baby hair "yes they all start out that small...that's how they can stay in your mom's tummy..." He reminded and rubbed her back "how is tapestry lessons going? Making beautiful things?...Mani can't stop bragging on you...he certainly has become a strong handsome man do you agree?"
Rachelle smiled "I think we follow the guidelines and the man ask the father for his daughter's hand...I will wait outside the tent, no actually I will get dressed for the wedding...meet you at the falls"

Donavon looked up shocked and sighed when he saw his forgiving and loving wife "baby...my sister will never look at me again...she hates me and I will never get that look out of my mind..." He dried his eyes and swallowed "I have to go...Abby's gardener is missing in action...contracts need to be signed and I have to find this boy..."
Ren shook his head "stop...you can't hurt yourself from the anger and hurt...he is sorry didn't you see that? Love I forgive him and I was the one wounded..."
Abby started to feel sick "I need him back...what can I do? I'll do anything...I just can't live without him..."

Lara (gurlwhowrites) | 8327 comments Clara nodded, letting her eyes close as the name rolled around in her mind like a polished stone. Bella Rose... "It's perfect." She breathed, happy. She snuggled up to him, glad to have a moment of peace and quiet. "I'm getting better..." She admitted. "I must say that was quite the stressful situation... poor Matthew and Brooklyn, to be in the hospital on Christmas. Have we had any news? Is she alright?"
Matthew looked up as the nurse came in, his worry and stress immediately melting from his features when he was told she was going to be fine... blind in one eye, but fine. He couldn't care less if she had scars all over her body, just so long as she was alive and getting better. "Thank you!" he said, knowing that sounded just like his Brooklyn, as he rushed in to see her, going to pull up a chair by her bedside. "Hey lovely." he whispered, reaching out to take her hand. "How are you feeling?"

April walked in and laughed merrily at the mess all over the floor, toys and books and other things strewn about the room. Joshua dutifully got up and hugged April around the waist, grinning broadly. "Thank you miss April."
April smiled, hugging him back. "You're very welcome. What else did you get?" Joshua eagerly pulled her over to the little train set he had just put together. "It goes on its own!" he said, turning the switch to make the train move. His eyes lit up in excitement and he grinned. "But look, look this one's the best." he ran a little ways, searching for something in the paper. He pulled out a book then, a brand new book with crisp pages. "A new book! You'll read some to me? Please?"
April smiled, nodding. "Maybe, if we have time tonight, alright?"
"Alright!" he grinned.

Jeniffer stared at the little baby in her arms, her face lighting up then in joy. "Oh she's so cute... I love her!" She said, rocking her gently. A soft blush started to creep up her cheeks and she looked sheepishly at her father. "They're going alright. It's kind of like tying knots on the ship... but with smaller rope, and a needle to help out... but I was never good with colours. My first one looked like a pumpkin exploded and caught fire." she admitted, blushing harder. "Mani is a good teacher though. He has grown... much... uh... stronger." she agreed. "And more handsome." she added softer, her face red.
Habi nodded, his heart pounding as he stood with her. "I'll see you there." he kissed her cheek and watched her run off, before he took a deep breath and tried to gather his courage, walking to her father's tent and poking his head inside. "I uh... sir... I came... to uh.... talk to you about something.... do you have a moment?" he asked, managing to get the words out somehow. He cleared his throat and told himself he needed to be stronger, confidant.

Ella couldn't help but feel that Donavon was disappointed to see her instead of Joyella, but she didn't say anything, knowing that she just needed to be there for him. "Don't say that... she's been through a lot, I'm sure she's just finding it hard to heal again. I doubt she hates you." she did startled when he said he had to leave, and a look of pain crossed her features. She knew she couldn't argue. He was the king. He knew what was best, and she needed to be supportive. "I wish you didn't have to leave." She did say softly, however. It was horrible news to hear that Reece was missing. "Do be careful." She added, looking at him pleadingly. He had already been off quite a while, fetching Ren, and now he was going to be leaving again to fetch Reece?
Joyella closed her eyes, her face scrunched in pain. "I know he's sorry... I just wish it hand't happened in the first place... I can't believe... I..." her voice cracked and she shook her head as the tears spilled over and she covered her face in her hands. "I never thought he'd lie to me."
Reece's mother found her sorrows washing away slowly with the need to do something... and she started to see a bit clearer again. She knew it wasn't good for a pregnant woman to stress to much. "You need to get your rest and eat well so your child and you are both healthy when Reece returns home." She said firmly, hoping that the resoluteness in her voice made both her and Abby believe it. "He'll not want to come home to see you've miscarriaged stressing over him." She said seriously, urging her to sit down and going to the kettle. "Would you have a cup of tea with me?"

McKensie (that-one-girl) | 5564 comments Jack smiled proud that she appreciated the name and caressed her cheek with the back of his hand nothing but love in his eyes for her "I thought you were brilliant...you did so well delivering our girl in such a stressful situation. You are the strongest woman I know..." He promised and sighed "I've heard nothing from Matthew, so Im assuming that is good...she was awake before she went to the hospital...that's good right?"
Brooklyn squeezed his hand lightly "they won't let me drink...I have such a headache..." She whispered still groggy, her head was bandaged and she really didn't understand what was going "I need to cut the cord..."

Topher smiled looking at the joy on his brother's face as he showed off all of his gifts. He remembered picking out each gift and hoping that he would have even half of the joy that little face has. "That's wonderful Josh! You want to know a secret?..." He smiled showing off April's ring "Miss April is going to be your sister-in-law...are you excited? She'll be living with us..."

Thomas chuckled listening to her description "well...you have plenty of time dear...just enjoy being young...no kissing or marriage...not till your woman ceremony and maybe not after that. But...im glad that you have such a wonderful mate...now, let me have your sister so that you may get some sleep..." He put Nym into the crib and pecked her forehead "away with you..."
He looked up from his meditation and stood to greet the man "dear boy just spit it out, you look more nervous then a man dancing on coals with bare feet...is it Rachelle? Are you courting well?...your son has grown into a good warrior. Very much like his father."

Donavon hugged Ella and sighed "I know this is terribly hard on you...I know...and im so sorry. I miss you more then anything but...Abby needs her Gardner and I need something to do besides worrying about Joyella and the looming war. I'll be fine...and I'll be home soon. Take care of things here alright?...then we have our scheduled appointment to create an heir...be excited for that right?"
Abby sat down running a hand over her stomach and swallowing not wanting to lose it, she didn't love it but she wanted so much for Reece to be the father..."please...would you go to the town doxtor with me? He's my heart doctor...Freddy..."

Lara (gurlwhowrites) | 8327 comments Clara blushed, so happy to have his approval. His approval was all that mattered to her, and his compliments sent blush surging to her cheeks. "I'm glad you think I did well, love." She admitted, squeezing his hand. "Couldn't have done it without you, that's for sure." She was glad to hear news of Matthew and Brooklyn. "And I couldn't have done it without Brooklyn either. She was such a wonderful doctor. And to have a female doc!" She smiled, clearly pleased. "I do hope she's doing alright."
Matthew chewed his lip, wondering if he should ask for a drink for her, or just get one, and why they weren't giving her a drink. She must still be staying hydrated through the IV, but still... it didn't seem right. "You took a pretty nasty bump to the head, Brooklyn." he said gently, rubbing his thumb over the back of her hand. "You're... you're blind in one eye I'm afraid." he added softly. "But the doctors said you'll otherwise be able to continue on as normal." He hoped to be encouraging... but knew it was hard.

Joshua nodded eagerly, very much wanting to know the secret. He stared at April's hand for a moment, not comprehending, and then his eyes grew wide and he gasped in shock and amazement. "I'm getting a sister!" he hugged April tight. "I always wanted you as a sister..." he murmered shyly, and April smiled at the sweet boy, hugging him back. "I'm happy to be joining your family."
Joshua lifted his head and shot a devilish grin at Topher. "Told you you'd marry an angel." he said brightly, thrilled about this whole development. "This is the best Christmas ever!!"

Jeniffer was blushing furiously, but she nodded, knowing better than to argue with or disagree with her father. "Of course, Papa." She nodded. She couldn't deny that the thought had crossed her mind, however... "Goodnight, love you." she said, handing him her sister and then squeezing him in a quick hug, before she headed back to her own tent, having been old enough to get and take care of one now.
Habi cleared his throat and clasped his hands behind his back, finding it very hard to choke on the words, and then just took a deep breath and steeled his nerves. "Yes, Rachelle and I are courting well. And yes, I am very proud of Mani." He stood a little taller. "I actually came to... uh... ask you a very important question... I... that is, if you allow it... would like to take your daughter's hand in marriage... and... we would like you to preform the ceremony... if you are willing..." He cleared his throat. "Um... now. By the falls. Rachelle is already waiting..."

Ella hugged him tight, trying to gain courage, trying to be strong, as she knew he had to go, and she couldn't keep him back. That was just selfish. She buried her face in his shoulder, breathing deeply once, twice, memorizing the feel of him, his scent, letting it calm her. "Yes. We can look forward to that." She agreed, even though she loathed that it had to be a scheduled thing like everything else in their lives... and was terrified that again, she would not get pregnant. What then? It would create stress and turmoil among the people... Ella swallowed. "I'll be alright here," she promised. "Do what you must and know I wait every moment for your return." She pecked his cheek.
His mother saw the pleading in the girl's eyes and she nodded, willing to help her out in whatever way she could. After all, this would be her grandchild, and already she loved the wee thing. "Of course, love. Do you have an appointment? Or were you just planning to stop by?" She asked, wondering when she wished to go in to see her doctor.

Brooklyn pressed his hand to her cheek wanting to feel his warmth, his callused and chapped hands were comforting as she took in the horrid news "so...I shan't be able to see properly...how can I be a surgeon...a doctor even if I can't see?!" She said started to lose it as tears prickled her eyes and fell down her cheeks "there must be something else they can do! I didn't spend 4 years of schooling to lose it all..." She was crushed and it took a lot not to be angry at Clara and the child...if she hadn't been focused delivering the child she would have seen that suitcase coming and ducked...

Topher laughed lightly pleased by Josh's reaction, the boy was so sweet and he was so sincere as he hugged his bride to be. The two of them bonded in ways he didn't think we're possible. They were always talking and reading, almost as a mother would treat her son. He pulled April on his lap and held her close "maybe I should listen to you more often Josh boy...Merry Christnas, shall I make some hot cocoa for everyone? The air has gotten brisk again..." He knelt by the fire moving the log trying to coax the fire to a roar again to heat up their house.

Her father looked at him in disbelief and shock at first then a slow smile appeared on his face "my daughter has always had a passion for doing things right away...the falls would be lovely and of course I'll perform the ceremony. I am glad to see my daughter loved and respected around the village as she should be. Now, run to meet her. I'll be following your steps just have to find the marriage band that her mother and I worr...I want you to have them." He puled out the elaborate beaded banners that wrapped the two hands together to seal them forever.

Donavon kissed her once more and caressed her pale face "do not worry my love, I will be home soon...keep yourself as occupied as you can as that usually helps the time go faster...maybe spend some time with your sister...she seems to be...different without Reece...unhappy and anxious..." He pushed those strands behind her ear and nipped her neck "I'll be back..." He promised again as he boarded the Royal jet needing to find this man.
Abby bit her lip "truth be told Ive made dozens of appointments and cancelled everyone of them..,Freddy is sure to know something is wrong...but I was afraid, I still am...petrified...but it gives me comfort to have you be there with me...you are like the mother I always wished mine would be..."

Lara (gurlwhowrites) | 8327 comments Clara nodded in understanding. "It certainly is a huge undertaking for her to decide to be a doctor. The poor girl probably gets a lot of trouble from her classmates about it." She laughed softly then, tucking herself in and allowing her eyes to close. "Your brother and his girl are so sweet. I can see those two getting married." she said, her smile soft. "They'll be a lovely couple."
Matthew shook his head quickly, clasping her hands in his as he tried to calm her. "No no, you can still be a doctor. You just might not be able to be a surgeon. But what about opening up a family practice? Or you could work in the ER, you don't have to be a surgeon..." he said gently, tucking a strand of hair behind her ear. "This is a setback, yes, but you can overcome it." he assured. "You're my strong, lovely girl."

Josh grinned, proud of himself, and he nodded smugly. "I'll get out the marshmallows!" he clasped a hand over his mouth. "Oh... that was supposed to be a surprise... I bought marshmallows for us... a whole bag! They looked so good at the market..." he said sheepishly, going to retrieve the large bag from the cupboard. "Surprise?" April laughed easily and leaned back against Topher's shoulder, happy to be sitting with him. "Hot cocoa sounds wonderful, and Josh, those look to be the most scrumptious marshmallows I have ever seen." She promised, watching as he beamed. She got up and helped Joshua pop a few beside three mugs, and then put them away again, before she grabbed a kettle of water to boil over the stove.

Habi waited in tense suspense for an answer, and when he got one, his face broke out into a huge grin and he shook his soon to be father in law's hand thrilled. "Thank you so much!" he dashed out of the tent and quickly smoothed his hair down, before walking to the falls to meet Rachelle. "Rachelle?" he called. "Your father said yes! We are to be married now..." he said, his grin stretching from ear to ear.

Ella nodded, watching him leave, a knot growing in her stomach. "I love you." She called softly. She then went to the library, searching up different methods to help conceive a healthy baby. What foods to eat, what bath herbs to try... but all of it sounded just superficial, and she wasn't sure what to do. What if she couldn't have children? Ella sighed, closing the books. She stood and went to look for Abby to talk to her, not finding her in the castle. She then assumed she'd be with Reece's family, and went to look there. She stumbled in on Abby and Reece's mother and bit her lip, backing up a bit. "I'm sorry..." She mumbled. "Abby... I was looking for you... I wanted to talk... but I can leave if now is not a good time."
Reece's mother nodded sympathetically. "I'll come in to an appointment with you." She promised, just as the queen walked in the door, and she bowed respectfully. "No problem at all, your majesty." She assured. "You are welcome anytime."
Ella nodded her thanks to the kindly woman, even though she cringed at the title. She didn't feel very majestic. She felt like a scared girl.

McKensie (that-one-girl) | 5564 comments Brooklyn just held him close crying softly, all the pressures of trying to be a perfect surgeon all the humiliation of being mocked and scorned released...pointless. She buried her face in his chest and just sobbed holding onto his shirt. "Im sorry...I know I should be grateful but it hurts so badly..." She whispered not liking to seem weak or vulnerable around him.

Topher shook his head amused "that money was for your milk Joshua...but I suppose you are old enough to decide for yourself. It was a very unexpected surprise Josh." He moved off of the couch and helped mix up the rich Dutch chocolate in a pan adding his special ingredients he smirked as April tried to peek "just because you are my fiance does not mean you get to know my secret cocoa ingredient." He dabbed some chocolate on her nose.

Rachelle gasped and leapt in his arms as he spun her around. She was wearing a white gypsy dress with wild flowers braid in her hair. A braid crowned her and the rest of her hair was in soft curls down her back. She pressed her face to his neck "we are going to be married baby...I couldn't be more thrilled..."

Abby looked up at her sister and bit her lip "Ella...im having a baby...it would be the hardest thing to do but...would you take it as your own, we can use cushions to look like your stomach is bloated for the press and I'll have the baby in secret and it'll be yours...I will be scorned if I am found out...and you will be scorned if you don't have one..."

Lara (gurlwhowrites) | 8327 comments Matthew gathered her up in his arms, being careful not to bump her bandages or hurt anything as he sat on the bed beside her and just held her, trying to comfort her in the only way he knew how to. "I'm sorry..." Was all he managed to say, after he had tried to comfort her, and evidently his words had not worked in the slightest. He had just wanted this to be the best Christmas ever... and now they were in the hospital and his love was sobbing in his arms...

Josh beamed proudly from the table, glad that his brother had been surprised by the gift he had bought the family. April helped out with the hot chocolate, until Topher started adding strange things into it and she craned her neck to try and see what he was doing. She was promptly thwarted by him stopping her and she beamed at the word he used. Fiancé. What a lovely term. She reached up her tongue to try and lick the chocolate off her nose, but didn't succeed, only managing giggling at the thought of what she looked like cross eyed at the moment. She swiped the chocolate off her nose and licked her finger. "That's really good..."

Habi spun her and held her close after, his eyes drifting down over her angelic form. She looked like a woods spirit, a happy soul who would be found gliding through a field full of flowers. "You're beautiful..." He breathed, pecking her hair. "I can't believe this is actually happening..." He swallowed, trying to calm his racing heart. "I suppose it wouldn't be very good if I fainted, would it?" He joked, a nervous smile on his features as he took in his love's sparkling eyes and countenance. She was perfect, and he was a blubbering fool.

Ella bit her lip, figuring that her sister had become pregnant. It was so strange to even fathom it. That her little sister was having a child, and yet she could not, when the country was depending on her. But to take her child as her own... it was such a big maneuver that she didn't want to go through with it unless Abby was absolutely sure. If she was just doing this out of pity and would regret it later, Ella knew she would never be able to live with herself. Especially since they'd both be lying to their loves. "I... are you absolutely sure, Abby?" she asked, the worry for her sister obvious.

McKensie (that-one-girl) | 5564 comments Brooklyn soon slowly stopped crying as she relaxed in his arns just grateful he was there. She rested her head in his neck breathing in his scent and fully relaxing. She laced her fingers with his and took a deep breath "thank you..,im sorry...im alright." She assured in a soft spoken whisper and pecked his cheek and finally to his lips "least we are together and we can still own our own clinic...just as we hoped and planned for..." She assured him and herself "Merry Christmas Matthew...I love you more then I ever thought possible..."

Topher chuckled watching her try to lick the chocolate off and being unsucessful. He loved how playful she was and how much she had changed since he first saw her dance those many years ago. He grabbed the mugs and poured in the cold milk first and then swirled the chocolate mix in each. The boiling hot chocolate hissed against the cold milk making a perfectly warm beverage "alright Josh you can put in the marshmellows now!" He beamed watching them plop one by one. "I think this may need a story...Josh why don't you grab your new book and we'll all read together."

Mani walked up with Rachelle's father and chuckled, being at the brink of manhood his voice was changing and he was nearly as tall as Habi. He put his hand on his shoulder and handed him the leather pouch with the ring "I think you may need these, breathe dad...you've been wanting this all your life." He stood back truly happy that his father was marrying the love of his life. She was an incredible woman and he began seeing her as his mom. Though, she'd never replace the woman that gave back his life.

Abby hugged her tightly and nodded "I couldn't be more sure of anything...Reece will never know and Donoavon is gone so often he won't tell the difference..." She dug in the kitchen drawer and found a few rags. Forming them in a round loaf like shape she put it next to her own stomach "we can sew a pad to match my stomach...you just will be on a lot of bed rest and Freddie wil deliver the baby where the public thinks you will deliver and no one will ever tell the difference...Ella you want a child so badly I can see it...and I feel no love or connection to this one..,"

Lara (gurlwhowrites) | 8327 comments Matthew was more than relieved when she started to settle down, and he relaxed against her, twining his fingers with hers. "Yes, exactly." he agreed. They could still open a clinic. Both of them were still alive and on the road to health. They had each other. It was Christmas. Life was good. He kissed her temple gently and rested his head against hers. "Merry Christmas, Brook. Even if this is not how we thought we'd spend it, I'm still glad I can spend it with you. I love you too, you know." he bumped his nose against hers and smiled.

Joshua grinned and immediately did the duty of dropping in the thick white marshmallows one by one into each steaming cup,and watching as they started to foam around the edges in the hot liquid. "Yummy." He breathed, nodding obediently as he raced to get his book and bring it over. April smiled and sat down in between the books, taking the book in her hands as she opened the cover and began to read, sipping the thick hot cocoa every now and again. She had never felt loved like this in her life before, and she had never felt warmer. She didn't want the moment to end.

Habi smiled lightly at Mani, happy his son would be there. He was so proud of him, and having Rachelle join their family was a huge thing, something Mani would be a part of. "Thank you son." He said, nodding to him as he took the rings, and tried to take a deep breath. His glance said he was thankful to him for being there, supporting him and his nerves lowered a bit as the nuptials started and then Habi said his vow, the traditional gypsie vow that was tailored around the story of the moon loving the sun. He didn't look away from Rachelle the entire time.

Ella nodded slowly, consenting, and she hugged her sister close, relieved and nervous and thankful all at once. "Thank you. This is a horribly crafty scheme." She said, trying to be lighthearted. "But then again, we always were ones to get into trouble." She hugged her sister. "Do you really think we could pull this off?" she asked, a brief flicker of worry flashing in her eyes. What if the press noticed? What if Donavon noticed? Though it was painful, Abby had been right that he was gone a lot. Maybe even enough that he wouldn't notice if she got pregnant...

McKensie (that-one-girl) | 5564 comments Brook caught his lips in a kiss and sighed content the medication starting to relax and sedate her "Mmm I left your present in the suitcase, maybe you can convince your brother to bring them over..." She took in deep breaths starting to doze off to a comfortable sleep "I need to check on April...she'll...she'll get...worried..." She mused already falling deep in sleep.

The next morning Topher went to the bookstore before his brother and fiance were up and picked up some bridal magazines for April. He sure got some bizarre looks but if people had any romance in their hearts they'd know it was for his bride! He picked up a superhero comic for Joshua as well and headed home. Frowning he noticed a lot of flyers scattering the ground concerning the rebellion against the Royal family.

Rachelle could hardly hold still as her favorite love tale drifted from his lips being directed and represented for her. She watched as her father wrapped the beaded band around their hands intertwining them for life. She kissed him softly finally being able to speak as she was a married woman and belonged to her husband "I love you..." She had tears in her eyes and Mani held Jennifer's hand as she snuck up to watch the ceremony. That's what he wanted true love with her. He wanted to marry her...after his man ceremony and her woman one he would marry her...he brought her hand to his lips nuzzling the soft skin.

Donavon quickly went to the army barracks hospital and went to the man that he believed was Reece "leitenant...my name is Donavon...do you remember who you are?"
Abby sighed and hugged her tightly "It will be difficult but I know we can,.." She whispered and turned to her mother in law "let us let Freddie know and find out the progress of this little one.

Lara (gurlwhowrites) | 8327 comments Matthew ran his fingers gently through her hair, trying to calm her and let her rest. He smiled lightly. "Of course. I could call him and ask if he wants to bring them over. But Clara might need to rest a little longer." He held her, smiling when she finally drifted off. "We can check on your sister when you wake." he pecked her forehead. "Sleep well, love." he whispered, resting beside her, as he was rather exhausted as well.

April slept well that night, happy, and content next to her love. She woke up the next morning more rested than she had ever been. But she woke in a start. She shouldn't have been here this long! It wasn't her place to be staying over at her fiance's house, not before they were married. She knew Topher would understand. "I'll come back to visit." She promised in her letter explaining why she had to rush home. She arrived at the old mansion and opened the door, appalled to find everything moved around and packed up. What was her sister doing to their house!? She stared in horror.

Habi kissed her back gently, so thrilled to finally be able to call her his wife, to lift any prejudice against her. "I love you..." He whispered, grinning as he lifted her into his arms and carried her back to camp, back to a tent that would be their own. "Welcome home." he whispered, bringing her inside.
Jennifer found the ceremony so beautiful and she had to brush away a small tear. She walked back with Mani, holding his hand. "I'm worried about the ceremony next month." She whispered honestly to him. She wasn't sure she could do it... wasn't sure she would be able to accomplish it and become a woman in the eyes of the clan.

Reece was badly scarred, a blindfold wrapped around his eyes, as he had gone blind due to mustard gas, and his mind had been severely damaged, rendering him with a bad case of amnesia. "N-no, I'm afraid not, sir.... but your... your name seems familiar to me."
Ella nodded, squeezing her sister affectionately, glad they had such a good relationship. "Yes, I'm sure we can." She agreed.
Reece's mother nodded in determination. "Absolutely. Off we go then." she said, wrapping her shawl around her old shoulders, and offering a blanket to shelter Abby.

McKensie (that-one-girl) | 5564 comments The next morning Brooklyn requested the telephone from the nurse. She dialed Topher's number to no avail and then called her old number till she heard her sister's voice on the other end "April darling it's been so long! I've missed you so much..." She didn't really understand the ache that she felt till that moment and tears started to form "are you ok? Did Topher show you your Christmas from me? The apartment...we are going to turn the mansion into a clinic for people who can't afford healthcare."

Rachelle held onto him closely and laughed kissing him "I couldn't be more overjoyed Habi..." She looked around their beautiful new tent and lay down on the richeat furs that were given to newly weds "so wonderful...I never thought id be married..." She pulled him down and held him "do you want to feel the baby properly? No one will judge now..."
Mani winced and nodded, the men's ceremony equaled hunting tasks and...circumcision. He wasn't over joyed of it either. He nuzzled her and stroke her long dark hair "many woman have gone through it and we're alright...just think...afterwards I can propose and we will be together..." The woman's ceremony they were de-virginized and they had a journey of the goddesses.

Donavon felt his breath catch and smiled "im King of Britain...you were a Gardner and a good friend...you have a beautiful fiance waiting for you and she is my sister in law...she misses you terribly...so we will get you better."
Abby knocked on the door to the clinic and smiled at Freddie "do you have time for an appointment?"

Lara (gurlwhowrites) | 8327 comments April had tried to clean up a little area to resemble a home, and she had curled up in the armchair there, clutching a blanket around her. Luckily, the phone wasn't too far away from where she was sitting, so she picked it up and tried to sound happy. "Hi Brooklyn!" She said, not sure why she felt so devastated about the state of their home. Even though there were bad memories, it was the only home she had ever known... "I miss you too. I hope you're having an amazing time in Ireland." She said seriously. "I did not learn of the house... no. I guess Topher didn't have the time to tell me of it. He arranged such a beautiful Christmas for us yesterday..." she said honestly, a smile forming then. "And did you hear? I'm engaged!"

Habi closed the flap of the tent to keep the inside warm and comfortable as he lit the wicker lamp that hung in the centre and came to sit beside her, his hand resting on her stomach gently. "Yes. Yes I would." he breathed. "I want to meet our little baby." he whispered, kissing the fabric over her stomach.
Jennifer saw the brief look of concern on his features and she squeezed his hand, knowing he was probably just as worried as she was. "Yes, yes. You're right. Men and women have gone before us, we'll be just fine." She said, trying to reassure them both. She reached up on her tiptoes and placed a kiss on his cheek. "Can you help me with weaving again? I'm almost done with my tapestry, but I can't get one part just right... and you're so good with the knots..." She pleaded, giving her best puppy face.

Reece found it so strange to hear of his life, when he had no recollection of it. A fiance? He was in love? It was so strange to hear it, and how he longed to remember... "Your highness," he inclined his head respectfully. "I'm sorry I can not bow... I'm otherwise unable... and rather honoured by you presence... I... do you - that is... what is my name?" he asked hopefully, knowing he sounded like a sad pathetic man, but he wanted to know who he was.
Freddie came to the door, looking tired and a bit overwhelmed, as his family had a child on the way, and it had been a lot of stress constantly worrying of her. But he smiled, ever willing to help. "Of course, of course! Come in! I've been rather worried about you..." he ushered her inside. "it's been a while since your last appointment..."

Rachelle linked her fingers and smiled at him kissing him gently "are you excited?...I feel nothing but joy at this moment. Do you think father is ok?...not too shocked by this?"
Mani smiled and nodded not being able to say no to that perfect face. He led her to the weavers and helped her weave and twist the knots with the right colors "what is this going to become?"

Donavon smiled and nodded "your name is Reece...you took care of your mother all of your life, you met lady Abigale and fell deeply in love...she has a very weak heart and is probably terrified to lose you.
Abby sighed and nodded "I was nervous at this recent development...im with child but we must make the kingdom think that it is my sisters..."

Lara (gurlwhowrites) | 8327 comments April smiled lightly, happy to have this chance to think about something happier than the house, and how empty a place she now had to stay in. She hadn't quite understood the mention of an apartment. "He proposed in the snow on Christmas morning..." then she gasped. "Oh I'm so sorry! That sounds awful..." she said, feeling horrible for her sister. "The doctors say you will get better though, right? I couldn't stand it if I knew you were hurt and dying." she said, sounding frightened.

Habi smiled, kissing her slightly swollen stomach again before raising his kissing to her lips, as he nuzzled his cheek against hers. "I think he was very happy." he said honestly, kissing her neck and then just tucking his face against it. "He looked to be very happy for you, and a good thing too... or I might not have been privileged to marry you."
Jennifer sat beside him, loving to watch how his nimble fingers managed to tie such tiny knots in the thread, even though he had the rough hands of a man now. "I wanted to hang it in our tent." she said softly, choosing more threads to slip into the tapestry. "It's of that little creek in the forest, by Brumsberry. You know, the one with all the shrimp in the water, and the waterfall...." And the place I first realized I was in love with you. She blushed.

Reece's forehead wrinkled as he mulled over that answer. His past self sounded like a good man. But he didn't remember being a good man. He remembered killing people, and setting off bombs and cannons and other horrible things. But this love, this girl with a weak heart, he wanted to meet her, to see if he couldn't love again. "Can... can I go there? Go... go home?" he asked hesitantly.
Freddie lead her into one of his exam rooms and pulled on some gloves. He raised a brow at her, surprised to learn of her and her sister's conspiracy. Though he wasn't surprised, and really, it was a clever solution. "I see. So you've heard word of the country's unrest due to the lack of an heir then." he said, preparing his instruments. "I promise I won't tell anyone." he vowed, patting the table. "If you could hop up here and lie back, I can take a quick look and make sure everything is healthy and coming along well."

McKensie (that-one-girl) | 5564 comments Topher had been searching everywhere for her, he finally found her at the old mansion and let out a breath of relief. He waited patiently till she was finished with her call to who he assumed was her sister.
Brooklyn smiled softly "I'll be going home soon April...do not worry about me...just enjoy your time with Tooher, go see the apartment I promise you'll like it!" She urged and smiled softly "I'll talk to you later April...Matthew is just waking up." She hung up the phone and nuzzled her guy "Mmm good morning..."

Rachelle laughed softly "even if he had said no darling...I still would have married you. We are having a baby...our love created a tiny being. We talk about magic and elf lore, this is more exotic then any of those tales..." She smiled looking around the tent "Mani has grown into quite a man...I wouldn't be shocked if the next marriage is his..."
Mani beamed remembering it "of course! It was the first area you arrived at...right near by is where the bee hive was." He shuddered slightly holding her closer to him "glad that is all over...but when you say our tent...you mean our marriage tent?" He asked softly running his hands through her long dark hair feeling nothing but joy that she was thinking of the future with him.

Donavon removed the blindfold "the doctor is going to cure your blindness...so that you are fully prepared to be home...do you remember anything before the war? Flowers...music? Your mother?" He was worried about Abigale once she finds out he has forgotten it all...she will be crushed. The doctor came in and put him to sleep as he did a less invasive surgery that was done to Donavon's father for the same cause.
Abby but her lip nervously, looking at the harsh metal tools probably freezing...the foot stirrupd going to hoist her like a hung turkey on Christmas. She was frozen wgere she stood gripping Wlla's hand so tightly she was losing circulation "I cant..." Sex was embarrasing enough and she wouldn't let Reece see anything...it was a wonder how she got pregnant.

Lara (gurlwhowrites) | 8327 comments April nodded slowly, still not sure what she meant by an apartment, and worried about her sister, and this big old house. But she nodded. "Get well soon." she whispered softly, putting the phone back down on its hook as she sighed and curled up in the dusty arm chair, tucking the blanket around her shoulders. Her mother had loved this blanket... had loved the books on those shelves... the little ballerina figurine on the mantle... April closed her eyes, trying not to think too much about the nice things that were now gone. Her mother....
Matthew blinked slowly to the sound of Brooklyn's voice, and quite cheerful at that. He smiled softly and pecked her lips, his vision clearing as he did. "Hello lovely." he whispered. "Was that your sister?" he asked, shifting a bit so he could see her better.

Habi smiled, not able to get enough of her, not able to truly believe that they were finally happy, and together, and on the road to a new child. "It is truly miraculous." he whispered against her neck, lifting his head then so he could at her with a wistful smile. "Mani has grown up quite a bit. And I doubt anyone will be surprised if he proposes to Jennifer, though I'm not sure how Thomas will handle letting go of his little girl." He shook his head. "It's crazy how fast they grow up."
Jenifer nodded, incredibly happy that he remembered it. It was such a special place, where they had played and danced in the summer together as the years progressed. "Yes, that's the one." Then her face bloomed with colour and she suddenly focused very intently on the tapestry as she finished off a few threads. "I um... I was... that is... I thought... yes..." She blushed harder. "Yes I was thinking of that tent." She managed, the feeling of his hands in her hair making her ever more aware that he was there and listening to her stumble.

Reece's eyes roamed blindly around the room, as if trying to find light, trying to see something. But Donavon's question saddened him. He wished he remembered something... anything. But he did not. Nothing but pain and hate and anguish. "I'm afraid I do not." He whispered, managing only a deep breath before they put him under for the surgery.
Ella saw her sister's panic immediately, and clasped both of her hands in her own. "You can do this, Abby. You were always the brave one, remember. We're both here for you." She said, and Reece's mother nodded in agreement.
Freddie felt badly for frightening her so much, he knew it was rather invasive procedure... but he had to see if the baby was healthy. "I'll be as gentle as I can, I promise." he said, moving to put his tools in a bowl of warm water to heat them up a bit. "Can you trust me?"

I was looking for you so I could show you the apartment...Brooklyn decorated it perfect for you, it's so pink and vintage roses...ballerina posters from Monet...will you let me show you? This place holds nothing but pain....she just wants you happy..."
Brooklyn turned her head so she could see him and kissed him deeply and nudged her nose to him "yeah...she was, upset...that the house was empty...I hope she likes the apartment...I just want her happy and she's engaged! Can you believe it?"

Rachelle nodded and smiled "so are you going to undress me so we can have our wedding night or are we just going to whisper sweet nothings to each other all night?" She laid him down and stroke his chest and down his stomach "just because I'm with child doesn't mean I feel the burn less..."
Mani leaned in and nipped her ear and wrapped his arms around her waist and leaned in "it'll be perfect for our tent...and hopefully be done by then. I think your father wishes we would hold off for a bit...he has requested that I not do...this" he leaned in and slowlt kissed her lips slowly adding tongue and cupping the back of her beautiful neck.

Abby swallowrd feeling so much love and support from her mother in law and her sister. They both survived this and so could she...she was doing this for the good of the country and the happiness of her sister. She slowly approached the table and looked at Freddie really considering his question before nodding. He had been the only reason she got to live for so long. She climbed onto the table just sitting there for a long time before laying back.

A place, meant for her. Where they'd moved all her things, and the things of her mother's that Brooklyn probably knew she admired as well. Like that little ballerina figurine. "Oh...." She said, the comprehension finally hitting her. She stood, keeping the blanket wrapped around her as some sort of security and nodded. "I'd love to go see it." She agreed,
Matthew nodded slowly, not really seeing how someone could be upset about a place that only held bad memories.... but if it had been her only home, then maybe it made some sense why she was nervous to leave it. "I hope she likes the new place too, though I'm sure she will. I give you an architects approval for the decorating of the place." he kissed her cheek. "Though I'm not very surprised that she's engaged. After all... Topher has been quite smitten with her for a while..." He smirked.

Habi chuckled, true amusement showing on his features as he watched her for a moment, his lovely wife. "Can't I enjoy both?" he asked, leaning down to kiss her again. He was careful with her, after all, she was carrying their child. But they were married, and he loved her deeply, and his passion was enough to prove that. He tucked her under the soft furs after, brushing her hair off her face as he planted a tender kiss on her forehead. "Sleep well, my love." he whispered.
Jennifer's eyes widened when his hands suddenly slid around her waist and he was right there beside her. She didn't dare to breathe, even as the heat in her face rushed through her like a wildfire at his proximity. This... this wasn't technically allowed... not until their ceremonies... and then he kissed her, and she squeaked in surprise, but found herself melting seconds later. How could she resist when she felt the same hunger in his lips that matched the feeling in her heart. She wrapped her arms up around him, pulling herself closer.
"Oh!" Someone gasped, and Jen wrenched away from Mani, scrambling back as she stared wide eyed and startled at the girl in the doorway. "I...I'm sorry... I was just coming to weave... I um...."
Jen shook her head, hoping, pleading silently that she wouldn't tell anyone. Oh it was so incredibly against the rules... her father, oh what would her father say!? "No it's quite alright... M-Mani was just helping with my... my tapestry." She stumbled.

Elle held her hand the entire time, helping her climb up onto the table, and then making sure she was comfortable as she lay back and Freddie walked over again with the tools. Ella squeezed her sister's hand, trying to comfort and distract her. "I forgot to mention... but Donavon left only a few days ago to find Reece." She said, hoping to keep her sister's focus on her, and not what Freddie was doing as he worked on her. "I have supreme faith in my husband, and I'm sure that if anyone can find Reece, it'll be Donavon." She said, smiling as encouragingly as she could.

McKensie (that-one-girl) | 5564 comments Topher wrapped his arm around her and smiled as he took her into the carriage and gave directions to her little suite. He helped her out to the little side townhouse small and elegant and not far from the dance studio. He opened the door to a darling little foyer which led to a living room adorned in Rose pink and gold filigree. He sat her down on the white leather couch and smiled softly "do you like it darling? It's all yours and you can live here as long as you'd like." Until their married that is, he wasn't sure where they would live and Joshua...he was more like a son then a brother at times.

Rachelle nuzzled him and sighed pleased as she pulled the flowers out of curls and covered them both with furs "you know...I fell in love with you when we were just small children...you were racing with the hounds and I loved the light in your eyes...you had nothing but joy, and I had hope I could cause you that kind of joy..."
Mani wasn't supposed to use his abilities, Habi forbid it but this was an emergency! He waved his hand over the girl's eyes erasing the image of them kissing and swallowed "leave and forget about weaving..." He said softly as the girl walked off automatically and he let out a breath. He sighed looking at Jennifer and holding her close "sorry...I wasnt...supposed to do that..."

Abby whimpered and winced, she couldn't relax no matter what she tried and it was more painful because of it. She clenched onto her sister's hand trying to breathe and looked at her hopefully as she talked about Reece "I hope so...I have a feeling he is still alive...just lost and confused..." She cried out looking at Freddie "I can't do it anymore please stop!" She clamped her knees her entire body shaking.

Lara (gurlwhowrites) | 8327 comments April looked around the house, amazed at the beautiful things she saw. It wasn't dusty and dark and weird smelling like the mansion. It was light and happy, and had oh so much charm. "Oh it's such a wonderful little place..." she breathed, sitting on the leather couch with him as her wide eyes took in everything. The little ballerina figurine sat on top of the hearth and a hesitant smile formed on her features. "She thought of everything.... it's so lovely..." She breathed, finding tears in her eyes and she hugged Topher. Now she knew she had her own little place to call home, a safe haven, somewhere she could go when she needed time to mull through her feelings. Somewhere she could cook and bake and practice dance and just be normal.

Habi wrapped his arms around her, holding her close so they were both comfortable and relaxed beneath the furs. He buried his face in her curls, smiling softly as he thought of himself and her as children. It seemed so long ago, and yet not that long at all. "Well rest easy knowing that you do, and tenfold more than those hounds did." he whispered, rubbing his thumb over her arm gently. "If I had known anyone liked me at that age, I probably would have been less shy as a child." he chuckled.
Jennifer was panicked that her father would learn of this, and then the next moment, a new fear entered her, as she watched Mani wave his hand and whisper to the girl. And she obeyed, blankly. As if she didn't have a choice... as if he was controlling her. Fear and shock rolled down her spine and formed an icy knot in her stomach. She flinched and pulled away from him, staring at him with wide eyes. "W-what just happened?" She asked in a hushed tone, as if she dare not speak of it.

Ella nodded at her sister's observation, wanting so desperately for that to be true, if only for her sister's sake. She knew that losing her love would be devastating, and she didn't wish that pain on anyone. "I sure." she agreed, patting her hand. Her forehead wrinkled in concern as Abby cried out, and Freddie had to bounce away as she slammed her knees shut, his tools still in her. "I'm sorry, Abby, I truly am... I'm not entirely sure how you got pregnant in the first place... but now that you are... can you please try to relax, just for a moment? I was almost finished..." He coaxed gently, knowing her current position couldn't be comfortable. He had been so close to finishing her exam...

McKensie (that-one-girl) | 5564 comments Topher played with her hair and smiled softly as she looked around in awe "I love you...im glad that you are so happy...your clothes are all stowed away and in your bedroom...do you want to see it? Or would you prefer to sit here?" He rubbed her back kissing her hand "I love you...im glad that you are pleased...is your sister well? I feel that you miss her...your heart aches for the familiarity of it."

Rachelle laughed lightly "I still want a pup...there isn't any dogs in the camp and I miss that..." She yawned and snuggled into his chest "sing to me?...I miss your voice..." She whispered and nuzzled his warm leather vest "you used to sing all the time but then you went silent..."
Mani was shocked how she backed away from him in fear and distrust "ive...had to fight this ability since I was a child...father says I will become a wise leader but I hid them not trusting in myself...as you are distrusting me right now...but I had to protect our status. I'll do anything to protect you..." He bowed and left the weaver tent heading to the warrier tent where he slept with a few roommates and best friends.

Abby gasped as the pain increased and slowly relax letting her knees open again as she thought about that night. How he was so gentle and caring with her. How she had no fear only love and trust. She missed his hugs and his warmth his easy going smile. She started to cry turning away towards the wall away from her sister as she hated to cry in public.

Lara (gurlwhowrites) | 8327 comments "I can see it in a moment." She said softly, wanting to just sit here with him, taking everything in. She leaned her head on his shoulder, surprised, but knowing she shouldn't have been at his quick assessment about how she was feeling in regards to her sister. "I miss her." she admitted. "And she's in a hospital right now, so I'm worried about her. She lost her sight in one eye in a freak accident in a carriage." She said softly, her face screwing up in concern. "She was delivering Clara's child. She's Jack's wife, and Matthew's sister in law."

Habi nodded, thinking a pup would be nice too. The new child could grow up with it. "Sounds wonderful." he agreed, thinking of the hounds from his childhood. Then he chuckled as she mentioned his singing. He hadn't had much time to sing of late... but he did for her, letting his deep voice rumble through him and the tent as he sang of adventures in the far off places. He played with her hair as he did so, letting it run through his fingers as he combed it away from her face.
Jennifer knew she had hurt him by backing away, but she was scared. How did she know he hadn't been using this strange ability on her? How did she know what this ability even was? Or why it existed? And a part of her felt hurt for him not having told her sooner. But she couldn't talk to him or ask him about it now, as he was already gone. She tucked her head on her knees, hugging them as she tired to stop trembling.
One of the boys looked up from a bow he was carving, and he grinned at Mani. "Why so down today, loverboy?"
Another one chuckled, shaking his head as he leaned back against his cot. "Get in a fight with Jennifer?"

Freddie bit his lip, feeling badly for making her so distressed, but Ella's face crumpled in pain for her sister and she hugged her gently, "I'm sorry." She whispered, before returning to just standing by her and holding her hand as Freddie finished up his quick look and slid the tools out and put them away, pulling down her skirts again and helping her sit up. "Your baby is healthy, Abby. A very healthy little boy. And you're coming along quite well. I'm sorry for hurting you. Are you feeling alright now?" he asked, bringing over a glass of water for her.

McKensie (that-one-girl) | 5564 comments Topher stroke back her long blonde girls "im sorry I hear that...but it seems she is being well taken care of by the doctor's and Matthew...couldnt have asked for a better caregiver..." He pulled out the magazines he got for her "thought you might want to look at these...bridal gowns and such. Stuff, which I haven't had a prayer to understand." He nuzzled her and went to the kitchen to make them some dinner. "Oh! I forgot to let you know! Joshua made friends with his bullies...they are sledding together, i haven't seen him that happy in awhile."

Rachelle was enchanted by his voice as always, legends have it that his voice could control the world around him. He could sing and flowers would bloom, birds would fly and the world was under a spell. She felt like that as she drifted off completely at peace and not a care in the world as she slept in her new husbands arms.
Mani ran a hand through his hair and scowled at his friends "Ven, you know nothing of which you speak. Unless you want me to show Ariella that you keep a piece of her underclothing under your pillow. And you, Flint! Shall I let the shy sweet Camilla know that you are too afraid to even speak to her...because she believes you to be mute!"

Abby sat up gratefully and quite sore as she sipped the water, she hugged the distressed Freddie "I worked myself up you were very gentle and kind..." She put a hand on her stomach and smiled at Ella "A boy...the new king of Britain..." She was pleased that she accomendated their plans so well. She felt her heart ache thinking about Reece though, how he would have longed to have a child. Analie waddled in with new sheets and to clean the tools. She smiled at the women exhaustion prevelent on her face "good to see you again your majesty..." She curtsied the best she could and pecked Freddie's cheek.

Lara (gurlwhowrites) | 8327 comments April nodded in agreement. If there was one thing she knew, it was that her sister was passionate about what she loved, just like her, and she would be a wonderful doctor once she finished her last couple courses. She already seemed to doing quite well. "I know." she assured, looking down at the magazines he had brought. "Oh! These will be so helpful..." She mused, flipping a few of the pages and seeing all the lavish gowns. They were so beautiful, and a few caught her gaze immediately. She curled up on the couch, looking through them as Topher got up and started cooking. "That's wonderful." She immediately said, happy for Joshua to have made more friends and settled his conflicts. "I'm so happy to hear of that... I had been quite worried for the poor boy."

Habi sung his tale as he watched his love fall asleep in his arms, and his voice grew quieter, letting her drift away just as the last notes ended. "I love you." he whispered, brushing a feather light kiss on her cheek before he smiled happily and blew out their lamp, letting himself rest beside her. If only she knew what a dangerous thing it was for him to sing.
Ben looked up over his bow and raised his eyebrow, noting that his friend was clearly upset to threaten such things. "No offence was meant by my observation." he said, returning to whittling away the wood, chip by chip, keeping the handle smooth.
"We're merely worried for you." Flint added. "And I swear, if you talk to Camilla about me, I'll shave your head while you sleep." he said seriously, a smile on the edges of his lips.
Ven chuckled. "I'm not sure I'd much mind if Ariella knew. But I would mind if Mani was the one to tell her. Seriously man, what's up today? Just yesterday you were singing to the trees about us being only a month away from that dumb ceremony?"

Freddie hugged her back, trying to be of some comfort. "Yes, a boy. You should be very proud." he smiled encouragingly to both sisters. "It certainly is an honour to be helping out our queen, her sister, and the future king." He walked over to his love as she came in, his face immediately becoming a maze of worry. "Are you feeling alright?" He asked, squeezing her hand.
Ella curtsied to the woman in return, smiling regally, as she had practiced. "The honour is all mine." She assured. "Your husband is a huge help to my sister, and partially the reason she still lives."

McKensie (that-one-girl) | 5564 comments Topher smiled as he cooked some pasta stirring the noodles as she flipped through the lavish gowns "yes, I'm pleased to know that he is making more friends and stepping out of the house. He was so shy and quiet at the begining spending all of his time in his books and with Rags...I worried, but now I can find some relief to know he is socializing and excelling in his studies." He plated the food and went back into the living room "seeing anything worthwhile? Of beauty?" He sat by her and leaned in shaking his head at the dresses "many creative artists..."

Thomas watched his daughter enter the tent frustrated and upset, Nym giggled and toddled to her holding onto her leg tightly as she smiled up at her big sister "nen!" She said excited to see her. Thomas smiled standing to greet his daughter "I feel this visit is not a casual one...something on your mind dear?"
Mani sighed running a hand through his long hair and he shook his head "Jen is upset with me...about...the ability." He knew his friends knew because he told them in confidence. He didn't want Jen afraid and because she was his love it was more effective to her then any other as it was for Rachelle. "She's afrain of me...I've never seen that look on her face...what shall I do?"

Amalie nodded and gave a soft smile "I am doing as well as one can in their last days of pregnancy." She smiled at Abby "do not fear, it is not as exhausting as it looks...plus you will have plenty of bedrest. I can't stand much more of it...that's why I do little things to help my Freddie!" She moaned as she placed her hand in her stomach nearly crumbling over.
Donavon was taking Reece home. His blindness cured as his scars decreased as he was teaching him his life before the war. He was surprised to find the palace so empty of females. "I believe my wife and your fiance are out for now." He found a photo and showed him "this is your Abigale...tender, delicate beauty...like a violet you once said."

Lara (gurlwhowrites) | 8327 comments April nodded her agreement. "Definitely, it's good for a boy his age to have some close friends." She flipped the page she was looking at, poring over more beautiful and lavish gowns. There were countless numbers of them, to the point she wasn't sure how she could even decide. But she did know the sort of style she was looking for. She nodded absentmindedly. "Yes... a very many to choose from." she agreed. "I think I have found a few that would work quite nicely." She said, admiring one with a close fitting bodice and a skirt that drifted out in waves... like an elegant version of her practice uniform. "What sort of wedding are you hoping for?"

Jennifer walked into her father's tent with her arms wrapped around herself, hoping to find some comfort and familiarity. She smiled as her sister toddled over and she scooped her into her arms, hugging her close and placing a kiss on her cheek. "Hows my favourite little sister?" she cooed, setting her on her lap. She wasn't surprised that her father knew she was distressed. "I... yes actually. I just learned something about Mani that he chose to keep secret from me, something that could potentially be dangerous, and defies explanation, and yet I know he would never hurt me, but he never told me, and... I..." she shook her head, setting Nym down to play in the furs. "I'm scared and lonely... and hurt."
Both boys nodded slowly in understanding, realization dawning on their features. "So she found out then." Ven stated simply, and Flint shook his head. "Tricky spot. I think we all were quite afraid when you first showed us." he shrugged. "I'm not much good with females, but maybe talking to her about it would help?"
Ven shook his head slowly, chuckling. "Not much good with females, hm? Alright. Well I have to agree with him on this one. Talk to her about it, show her how it works. She's probably mostly just scared because she didn't know this thing existed." he offered, trying to be helpful. "And..." he grinned deviously. "If she really does dump you over it, I'll take good care of her, I promise." he teased.

Freddie chuckled softly, as always admiring the spirit and strength of his girl. "Well I seem to remember insisting you stay in bed for a bit, love." he teased, all smiles and happiness, until Amalie moaned and crumbled into him and he immediately caught her, his face scrawled with concern. "Love?" he asked, helping her up onto the table. "What is it? Is it time?"
Elle squeezed Abby's hand, wondering if they should stay or go. She figured Amalie might want some privacy, but maybe they could stay around until the baby was born, and see the little guy.
Reece was still getting used to seeing again. It was wonderful and strange and frightening all at once. But it was a blessed relief compared to the shadows that had lurked in his mind when all he saw was darkness. "Alright." He said softly, when the King, and his new... or rather, old and new friend said that their girls were out at the moment. He looked at the photo with interest, taking it in his hands a smoothing a finger over the slightly faded edges. "My violet..." he whispered, testing the name on his tongue, and rather surprised at how easy it came... as if it had been familiar to him once. "She... she is beautiful."

McKensie (that-one-girl) | 5564 comments Topher knew nothing of dresses or anything of fashion but he smiled at the one she pointed at "lovely...just like your swan lake costume...that's the first time I saw you dance. The innocent white swan, you conveyed emotion in me I had never felt before...I was one among the many that cried as you died dramatically on the stage..." He admitted caressing her rosy cheek "I want a wedding with you as the bride and me as the groom. I couldn't ask for much more..."

Thomas nodfed looking over at Maria for help to explain his anxious daughter. He was never good with comfort, being a pirate it wasn't an easily aquired skill "ah...I think I understand what you mean...his voice...am I correct? Yes Habi made me aware when he first used it on you...when he sacrificed himself for you...the boy didn't know it then and Habi preferred it kept silent...you see, Mani is the chosen leader as Habi's father was...He has the ability to create balance in nature and the energy that surrounds each of us..."
Mani glared at him his fingers curling in a tight fist as he shook his head "touch her and I shall advise you strongly to step away..." Anger was his downfall always had been, he was territorial and it was hard to stay calm. He took some deep breaths and started to tie the feathers on the arrows Flint was working on "what do you think happens in the men ceremony? Had any of your father's given anything away?"

Amalie moaned laying back as she nodded eagerly to her husband's question and grabbed onto Ella's sleeve. Her husband couldn't comfort her and she needed support no matter if it was a stranger or the queen of Britain herself! Abby got a cold rag for her head and stroke her hair trying to comfort the poor woman as she'd hope to be comforted and supported.
Donavon smiled softly seeing that spark of familiarity in his eyes as he looked over the photo and spoke her special name from him. Claudius the bird that Abigale so lovingly raised and cared was nuzzling his cheek and cheeped in recognition.

Lara (gurlwhowrites) | 8327 comments April closed her eyes and tried to imagine that... watching herself dance, watching her leap at the crescendos, and tip across her toes on the pizzicato sections. She had only memories of how the music flowed through her, and not how that looked, so it was nice to hear that people were moved by it. "Then it will be the perfect wedding dress." she said, folding down the corner of the page to remember. She smiled then, a blush rising in her cheeks as she thought of their up coming wedding. She a bride, he the groom... She closed her eyes and let out a happy sigh. "You've transformed my life, you know that?"

Maria nodded in confirmation as Thomas spoke. "He has a way with the world, Jen, he would never use such a gift to hurt you in any way."
Jennifer's face screwed up with conflicted emotions and she tried to just think about this all for a minute. So everyone seemed to know about this but her... everyone except for the person who loved him. Why? Why had he kept it a secret until he couldn't any longer. She nodded slowly, swallowing down her resentful and nervous feelings. "Oh." She merely said, not sure even where to begin to start thinking about all of this. It was too crazy to take in all at once. He had used it on her once before... did that mean he had done it more than once?
Ven raised his hands in surrender, looking sheepish. "I won't steal her from you, I swear." He vowed, turning back to his carving as both Flint and he screwed up their faces in mention of the ceremony. "My father said nothing, no matter how much I've asked."
"Yeah, well mine just grins at me and says 'you'll see'. It's getting on my nerves..." Ven was actually just nervous. "I don't see why it's so important anyways. It's not like we haven't proven ourselves already."

Ella found her sleeve in the grasp of Amalie, and she turned around, deciding they would be best help to her if they stayed after all. So she pulled up chairs for Abby and herself and sat by the girl, holding her hand and trying to be encouraging, telling her about how strong she was, nine months pregnant, and how wonderfully she was doing.
Freddie all the while fussed and worried, both the stressed husband and the doctor, as he prepared her for giving birth, rushing to run around and grab anything he might need.
Reece startled slightly when he felt something climb onto his shoulder, and he turned to stare at it, only to find a little bird there... and it was walking closer... closer, and then nuzzling his cheek. Well then, it must know him... and he must know this bird... The longer he stared at the feathers, the more he thought he recognized it. But it was like knowing you should remember something but not remembering what it was... and then the word slipped into his mind. "Hello Claudius." he said softly, rubbing the feathers around the bird's head and neck how he used to like it.
