McKensie and Lara III

Topher shook his head and pecked her forehead "im not letting you go alone...I'll stay till class starts and pick you up after. He blinked hearing his phone go off and walked back and answered the phone. Blinking he handed the phone to April "it's your sister...she insists that she speak with you."
Rachelle helped him sort the herbs the smells calming her as she braided the stalks to hang in the tents to dry for winter "I just love him so much...the boy is a good boy, and maybe I could be a good friend if he doesn't want a mother..." She mused to herself and looked out the tent flap to the moon "tomorrow night...I have another day of not speaking to him..."
Ren chuvkled and helped her into the cab as they drove downtown. He helped her out and smiled as photographer's swarmed to take the picture of the Royal couple. He pecked Joyella's cheek just to add some spice to the news story and led her to the antique little jewerly shop. So she may browse and admire the pieces finding the perfect one...
Abby giggled hopping on the bed like a girl again "are you ready? What will you wear? Are you nervous? Im terfified! I mean yes it's beautiful but...it's so...personal. You will know everything about eachother! Are you scared?"

Her father nodded, still humming to himself as he went about the task, winding thin twine around the bundle of herbs he had in his hands. "I'm sure the boy would love a mother and a friend. And you can be both to him." he promised. "Do not worry about tomorrow, my dear. Take each moment as it comes... and always remember that I love you." He said, looking up to smile at her. "No matter what happens." He reached out and took her hand in his weathered one, giving it a small squeeze.
Joyella enjoyed the ride into town with him. She remembered when she used not to be able to stand being in the same coach as him. And now... she was sitting beside him, knees brushing, soft smile on her face. She was used to the crowds that swarmed them when they got out, and she merely smiled and waved at them all, giggling appropriately as Ren kissed her cheek. Honestly she couldn't be happier that this time the trip into town was with him. As they entered the shop and left all the noise and clamour behind, she started to trail along the shelves and display cases, smiling lightly at a few of the pretty things, her eyes lighting up once, when she saw a silver necklace with a leaf pendant that seemed to have been dipped in liquid silver and left to dry. She stared at it a moment, and then moved on to look at the bracelets, finding the blown glass fascinating.
Ella shook her head slowly, amused by her sister's antics. "I am scared. Very scared... but I believe I am ready." she said honestly. "Our mother went shopping with me a few days back to pick out something to wear under my dress. I think it's quite nice." she said honestly, smiling a little. For she was nervous, and a little upset that the whole 'consummate the relationship' thing was mandatory, and not that she didn't want to, but she didn't like that it was under law, and had to be proved by a thorough appointment afterwards. Perks of being royalty. But beyond that, she was nervous about what Donavon would actually think of her, and what she would think of him.

Rachelle leaned on his shoulder and nuzzled him as she sighed "if anything happens to me daddy stay strong ok? I don't want you to lose everything...I'll be fine but I need to make sure that you will be...you work so hard for everyone and never yourself...I love you and I want you to walk me down the aisle at our wedding. Ok?"
Ren smiled and noticed the gleam in her eyes as she looked at that beautiful leaf. He wrapped his arms around her waist and leaned into her "read the tag on the necklace angel..." He knew she loved the necklace Ella had from Donavon. On the tag was a clue "where does the silver leaf grow?" It was a riddle and he knew she loved puzzles.
Abby smiled softly "it'll be so romantic...and tender..." She hugged the pillow and smiled at her sister "I bet you'll love it...do you want babies? Or are you waiting?"

Her father put down the herbs he was working with and let out a soft sigh, moving to hug his daughter. "I will be strong, for your sake, Rachelle, but that doesn't mean it would be easy, should something happen." he said softly, his aged eyes sad as he beheld his daughter. "I love you so much, and I would like nothing better than to walk you down the Isle, and see you to the happiness you deserve." He said, kissing her cheek. "I love you."
Joyella smiled, melting into him as he wrapped his arms around her. She turned to look at the clue and immediately grinned, loving a good mystery. "My goodness, it seems to say something!" she said in feinted surprise. "I wonder how that got there..." she smiled at him. "Do silver leaves grow on silver trees?" she asked hopefully, trying to figure this clue out. She wasn't sure where silver leaves actually grew, after all.
Ella smiled, leaning back against the headboard of the bed. "I hope so." Was all she said, softly, thinking about the wedding. "Well... the kingdom will want an heir in a couple years at least. But... I don't know. I want a family, but I like doing things because I or Donavon chose them, not because the law or the kingdom chose them for me... you know? Not that I'll be unhappy or anything like that, it's just an annoying feeling I have."

Rachelle smiled and snuggled down into the furs and closed her eyes "love you daddy..." She relaxed and fell asleep grateful for the love she had for her family and the man of her dreams.
Thomas woke up and stretched going to make some herbal tea for his wife, she usually had morning sickness at this time and it seemed to help. He went over to the guest rent where his brother was awake with the baby. Jacklyn was feverish and cold sleeping fitfully as Myra fussed wanting food "are you alright?"
Ren shook his head pecking her neck "close...remember when we were younger and in the moonlight the trees at the park looked silver in the water..." he whispered in her ear slipping the necklace around her perfect neck and kissing down it secretly.
Abby nodded in understanding "it's your marriage and business not the kingdoms...im so grateful I will get to step out of the limelight...I just...I worry about marriage and sex...what if im not strong enough for him to enjoy it? What if something goes wrong?..."

Sampson looked up as Thomas entered the tent and he shook his head, clearly distressed. "I don't know what to do, Myra won't stop fussing, and Jacklyn is not waking... she's been tossing and turning all night. I fear she's sick with this colder weather." He said, looking up at his brother in clear worry. "Could you have Maria look at her? I don't want her uncomfortable or sick..." He said, looking down at his daughter... "And she's so sad without her mother awake... doesn't seem to like me as much."
Joyella closed her eyes, a shiver rolling down her spine and she nodded. She remembered the park and the water that shone like starlight. Silver trees. They had looked silver. "Very clever." She whispered, opening her eyes to grin at him. "Well. Seems that we're off!" she walked outside, ignoring the masses, climbed into the carriage, and asked for the driver to take them to the park.
Ella smiled, feeling slightly better and she nodded, happy to talk about her sister. "Well, right now I'm not in much of a position to give you advice... but after my wedding you could ask me again if I have any suggestions. As of right now, I'm going to say it's probably best not to worry. I know you have a strong heart in you, an it's getting stronger... it's just forgotten how to be brave." she kissed her forehead. "Besides." her smile turned slightly playful. "I'm sure he won't mind doing a lot of the work."

Thomas shook his head "she doesn't dislike you...she just knows you are scared...she's hungry...I'll see if I can find a wet nurse for her..." He lifted her over his shoulder rocking her as he went over to his wife "darling...Jackilyn appears to be ill...Sampson has requested you check on her...do you know anyone breast feeding? Little Myra is hungry..."
Ren laughed and led her to the fountain near the 'silver' trees. On the stone edge of the fountain was a white rose thornless just like the one he gave to her before they had intercourse that night. He caressed her cheek and smiled "I think you read the next clue..."
Abby flushed but smiled "so what about the dress is it ready yet? What will I wear as your maid of honor? I am your maid of honor right?"

Sampson chewed his lip, letting Thomas take little Myra. He was so worried about her, and hoped that he was right about his daughter simply being hungry.
Maria looked tired, but she was already working on breakfast, and she nodded, immediately taking the child. "Oh for sure." you poor thing..." she whispered, taking the baby to one of the women in the camp who had just had a young one. The lady had no qualms to feeding Myra as well, and once dropping her off there, Maria immediately went to the tent to check on Jacky. "She's burning up." She whispered, checking breathing and pulse, feeling her forehead. "Get a wet rag to put on her forehead, and fetch me some of that broth from Rachelle's father. Tell him it's for a fever. He'll know which one."
Joyella looked around the old park in admiration when they got there, and she smiled, thinking of childhood memories. Like chasing Ren around the park. She saw the rose immediately, and went to scoop it up, running her thumb over the smooth and thornless stem. "Is the rose the next clue?" she asked, raising an eyebrow and blushing slightly, remembering last night.
Ella laughed softly and shook her head. "Not yet. Soon though. The brides maid dresses are also in production. You'll go for a fitting as soon as you are well again." She squeezed her hand. "Of course you're my maid of honour, I would never want anyone else." She assured. "But it is high time you get some rest, young lady. I want you better again." she smiled.

Jack smiled over at his wife, he was hunched over his desk starting to write the sequel to his best seller. His hands were covered with ink so he didn't tug her to him in fear of getting ink on her "did you hear Matthew is bringing a girl with him this Christmas? Fancy that! He doesn't even know about the babg yet." He kissed her extended belly and then her lips "im eager to see him...it's been so long..."
Thomas got a rag for the girl's head frowning at the heat that came from her scalp her hair damp with sweat. He turned to Sampson "keep dabbing her head with water..." He said seriously as he headed to the Elder's tent. Clearing his throat he bowed respectfully as tradition "sir...there is a very ill woman with fever...Maria said you had an herb that would help...she can not wake and she rests fitfully..."
Rachelle looked nervous and her immediate reaction was to go to Habi he was the healer afterall but she was forbidden to speak with him "father Havi is a great man of healing...we should alert him."
Ren smiled and took her hand as he bent on one knee the snow soaking his pants but he did not even care as he looked up at her beautiful face "it is a token of my love...always had been. You are my rose, my delicate rare beauty...I have not always been the best man for you but I want to be. I want to be right for you Joy, because that is what you bring me...pure joy. I want to marry you..." He pulled out a rose gold ring encrusted in diamonds in a rose shaped box.
Abby nodded and pecked her sister's cheek getting off the bed shakily "I have to check on Reece though...I won't sleep if I don't know his condition. She insisted and sneaked down the hall past the guards and maids to the hospital. She flushed seeing Flora "ma'am...I just wanted to say goodnight..." She whispered meekly afraid of how this would look to the woman.

Clara smiled, dipping in to catch his lips. "I think it's wonderful that your brother found someone to love." She said softly, "No one deserves a lonely life." She looked down at her swollen stomach as he kissed it and her smile turned gentle. "We'll be a trio soon. Maybe even in time for Christmas. Imagine that... a Christmas baby." She smiled lightly. "What a lovely present." She sat beside him on the bench and peered at his book. "So... what is this illusive manuscript you've been working on? Still a secret?"
Sampson nodded, sitting beside his feverish wife, clearly stressed as he kept the rag cold and swabbed her head with it. "I'm right here, Jacky. I'll keep you safe." He promised.
Rachelle's father stood, frowning when he heard of the fever. "The visitor? The one who had a child?" he asked, pacing. "She may have infection, or just be tired, or unnatuned with our foods and climates." he suggested, taking off some herbs from his shelves. "Make a broth of this and give it to her for now. I will go talk with Habi." he promised, leaving the tent to go alert Habi, as he knew his daughter could not do it.
Joyella was waiting in tense confusion and excitement to learn the next clue when Ren dropped to a knee and she gasped, her eyes going wide with shock. "Oh..." She squeaked, her eyes lighting up and she wrung her hands. "Oh my gosh ohmygosh ohmygosh!" She found herself tearing up even though she wasn't sad at all, quite the opposite actually. "Of course!"
Ella nodded, letting her stand. "Be quick." She warned. "Don't want you staying up too late."
Flora looked up as a pretty girl walked into the room and she immediately stood, embracing her. "Oh darling! You must be the girl who has made my son so happy..." She pulled back and smiled. "Thank you, for that." She motioned behind the curtain. "He's in bed, but he's been asking to see you."

Topher saw the anguish in his love's eyes and he pulled her to him cupping her face "amgel what is it?" He was so worried about her. She had gone through so much and he wasn't sure she was dealing with it well. He just wanted to be there for her but it was hard when she put up barriers and fake smiles that would fool anybody except those that love her.
Jack chuckled and nodded as he closed the leather manuscript and wiped off his hands still worried about getting her dirty "I've got a commision to get to Mary this afternoon and then I'll get the house tidied up...I don't want you overworking darling." He pecked her cheek and smiled "Hows that little Eloise? She's getting big isn't she?" His wife was a prestigious nanny but thankfully Lacey was giving her a break to have the baby. He rubbed her stomach and smiled "I want nothing more then a Christmas littke bundle of joy...do you know which doxtor you have decided on?"
Rachelle helped Thomas make the broth since he was clueless when it came to cooking anything but scones. He brought it to Sampson and Jackie handing it to Maria so she could spoon feed her "Habi is coming...he'll know what caused it." Maria was wonderful at treating but Habi saw the science and could find the cause. He saved his daughter's life afterall.
Ren slipped the ring on her finger as soon as her hands stopped moving and lifted her into him arns spinning her around as he kissed her "I love you..." He whispeted meaning it. He's loved her for such a long time he just didn't know it. But a life without her would be empty and dull. He frowned as a flash went off "bugger we didn't get rid of all of them..." He whispered turning at an angle so they couldn't get a good shot of their special moment.
Abby was shocked but so relieved that his mother was alright with her, she hugged her tightky never being hugged by her own mother because she was too 'fragile' it felt very good this kind of motherly love. She went to Reece's side and smiled taking his hand "Reece?..."

April closed her eyes, even though she knew it was too late and Topher had picked up on her emotions. She hated to bring him into something so dismal and dreary like her and her twin's past. But with Brooklyn moving... She would move in with Topher if the whole issue with Sam had never happened. But it had, and now she wanted to take thins slow, to really make this relationship mean something. She let out a shaky breath and wondered what to tell him, if anything. But she knew she couldn't hide the big news. "Brooklyn's moving in with Matthew." She whispered.
Clara shook her head. "Well I don't want you overworking either." She insisted, pulling him up and into the kitchen so she could pour some hot water into a basin and hand him a cloth and some soap to rid his hands of ink. "Clean up. Dinner will be on when you return from Mary's." She vowed. "Eloise is still the little active darling she's always been. Quite the creative mouse too." She added, setting an apple on the table beside him, in case he wished to have a snack before he left. "There's this lovely lady in town that I went to see. She seems quite sweet and it would be wonderful to have a female doctor." She said honestly. "But I don't know... I still haven't committed to anyone yet."
Sampson was pretty much nothing but a nervous wreck. He tried to help as best as he could, but his hands were shaking too badly, so Maria ended up feeding the broth to Jackie as Habi walked in, not asking questions, just immediately starting a thorough examination to try to find cause for the sickness. He discovered her stitches which were slightly irritated and frowned, "This might be causing infection... but I suspect it isn't the only thing..." He said softly, continuing to look.
Joyella hugged him the moment he lifted her into his arms and she kissed him back, clearly thrilled, but hardly able to speak she was grinning so hard. She kissed him again and tucked her head against him, enjoying the moment. "I love you too." She finally said when she found her voice. And then a flash went off, and Joyella's face darkened. For once in her life, she wanted her life to be her own. Her eyes flashed and she tucked her face against Ren. "Let's go home." She whispered, knowing they should leave before she lost her temper on whoever had just taken that picture.
Reece looked up as Abby entered his room and his features immediately brightened. He shrugged himself a little higher into a sitting position and he squeezed her hand. "Hello Duchess." He whispered, his eyes twinkling. "I was wondering when to expect your visit. I trust you had a lovely discussion with your friend?" he asked, smiling gently at her. He was glad to have this chance to see her, as he had been worrying about her constantly since he left her room.

Christopher looked at her shocked and pushed her hair back "what are you going to do honey?...our house is always open for you...I know you don't like to be alone..." He promised and took her hand squeezing it "we could sell the mansion and find you a cute little apartment that could be just yours if your not confirtable moving in...I just hate to see you so upset..."
Jack cleaned his hands and munched on the apple as he picked up the covered canvas leaning against the wall to dry. He examined it and bodded his approval it was one of his newest. The trolley with a view if Clara sitting at the window and looking into the vast space. She was wearing his favorite outfit and looking very lovely as usual "I think this one will sell fast. Matthew's girl is a doctor, perhaps you can ask her? They will be staying with us till after Christmas." He explained and grabbed his coat kisding her again "be good, I'll be home soon alrught?"
Thomas squeezed his brother's shoulder trying to give some comfort to his brother who seemed in shock himself. He frowned as Habi investigated and pointed something else out "Habi...is that..." He said in shock pointing to the begining of her cervix which was dialated "oh my word there were two!" And it appears that baby two was still alive and wanting to come out.
Ren tucked her behind his overcoat as he quickly got the cabbie to drive them home and safe inside the palace. He sat with her in the stable knowing she liked to brush down her colt when she was upset or stressed he sat on the hay and just watched her wanting to give her space but there for her when she needed it.
Abby shook her head kissing him softly "how many times so I have to remind you to call me Abby..." She nuzzled him and nodded "spoke about her recent...deflowering." She said with a nervous giggle "honestly im still in shock by it all..."

April tucked her head on Topher's shoulder, shaking it slightly. "It's ok... it's ok I'm ok. I'll be ok." She assured, trying to convince herself as well. "I can't sell the mansion... Brook and I promised Mama..." She whispered. "But I want to take it slow... just like we are waiting until marriage to sleep together... I want to go slow with this too." She whispered, looking up at him. "thank you, though. For your offer." She glanced behind him at the clock and bit her lip. "I need to get to my class... I'm going to be late."
Clara busied herself cleaning up the kitchen again, as she liked everything orderly, and cleaning gave her something to do. She glanced over at his painting and smiled. "I like that one." She commented, nodding her approval. "I could talk to this girl... it's always an option. Rather sudden to ask her, but it might be a good idea." she agreed, stealing his lips for a moment as he passed with his coat. "Don't be too long, and don't have too much fun." She smiled brightly, sitting at the table. "I'll be here." she pulled out her knitting again and started to stitch, working on a hat, boots, and sweater set for their child.
Habi smiled and rocked back on his heels. "Well isn't that wonderful news?" he asked, helping Maria position Jackie so the baby could slide out easily. "Looks like you have twins..." he said, chuckling at Sampson's pale but smiling face. He patted his shoulder. "They'll both live, looks like. So don't worry about that." He assured, as baby number two started to slide out. This one was much smaller, which was why it was missed. "Here it comes..." he said, trying to help Jackie through this.
Joyella tucked herself against Ren, allowing the smell of him and the feel of him against her to calm her as they rode back and arrived at the palace stables, where there were only servants to bother them, and even the servants knew to make themselves scarce. She stood, not taking out the brushes, but just petting her horse, leaning her forehead against his muzzle. "I'm sorry Ren." She said, knowing from her peripheral vision that he was there sitting in the hay. "I'm sorry... I just... I've grown more aware of the lime light now that I have you. I don't want to share you with anyone, let alone the entire world... I don't like us being on display." She whispered, letting out a sigh as her eyes closed. Her horse whuffed into her hand and she scratched his neck gently. "If Ella can't have children for whatever reason, I'll be expected to. That's just another example of what they think they can control... and... and it makes me feel so small. Like I can't actually make decisions about my life. I mean... even us getting married was a decision that was made by our parents..." She said sorrowfully.
Reece chuckled, closing his eyes and relaxing, twining his fingers through hers and kissing her cheek. "I find Duchess to be a very sweet and fitting nickname for you. Second only to Princess." He opened his eyes so he could wink, amusement hiding there. "So your friend had some fun last night, did she?" He shook his head. "She was betrothed to that prince. This was to be expected eventually. It's actually quite the spicy move on their part. Now... if she had done that with someone else... then we'd probably have riots in the streets." he teased, kissing her cheek. "Are you alright with the news?"

Topher helped her up and grabbed the cabbie, she was going to be tired during class and already emotionally tired from this morning's news. He helped her to the class and smiled as maybe a dozen little girls surrounded her all in tutus "madam April! Madam April!" They cheered so excited to see her.
Jack quickly took the car to Mary's and knocked on the door before walking in "I've got the new commision to you babe the earnings for this week? I've got a new baby coming and amazingly they cost a lot of money." He smiled looking at the new paintings and sighing "I don't know why they are so popular honestly..."
Thomas was watching Jackie, she wasn't pushing or even moving just whimpering softly as she was still unconcious "she still has an infection...the baby is out what else could be causing it?" He asked worried about his sister in lse. This was bring him back to that night with Sada and it scared him more then he'd like to admit.
Ren turned her to look at him he cupped her face and kissed her deeply "I chose to be with you...I could have chosen dozens of other e.royals and I wanted you. That isn't a plan that's fate...we have our own life...things just are different with us...we have guidelines that are agent. But everything we do is our choice...if you want a baby have a baby because that's what you want not what your required...it's all about your perspective."
Abby nodded "Sex...just scares me Reece...I just, don't want to disappoint you and I don't want to hurt...I don't like to be that vulnerable...I love you and I want our night to be perfect...but it does scare me. I don't know how to get over it..."

April was quiet on the ride to the theatre, not saying anything. But when they got there, and all the little girls ran up, a soft smile formed on her features and she scooped up a few that she recognized. Waving to Topher over the heads of the girls, she mouthed, 'I love you', and then got right to work with her lesson. The day flew by in a flurry of tutu's and ballet shoes, and by the end, April was near exhausted, but her heart felt lighter, thinking of all the wonderful sweet little girls she had taught how to twirl and stand properly. She dusted off her shoes at the end of the session, getting changed back out of her dancing outfit, and into regular clothes, dusting the chalk off her hands, and then rubbing her temples.
Mary went to the door, opening it in a flurry of brightly coloured skirts. "Jack, oh good to see you!" She said, ushering him in. "I do have the pay, one moment, let me get a check written out for you." she said, going to find a pen and scrawl down the amount before handing it to him. "These paintings sell well because they're pure talent. And besides, you have such a beautiful wife to pose for you." She smiled gently, patting his arm. "How comes the baby?"
Maria took care of the small child that had slid out, washing it and bundling it up, as Habi inspected the infection around the stitches. "It should be fairly simple to treat with antibiotics." He stated, gently dabbing something over the stitches to clean them, before wiping on a cream and then bandaging it up gently. He tipped her head back and poured a different medicine down her throat, smiling encouragingly at Thomas and Sampson who both looked down right scared. "Now we just hope that's enough." he said, sitting back. "Keep the cloth on her forehead."
Joyella closed her eyes, leaning into him and relaxing as he kissed her. She knew if anything, she could trust in his love, and trust that it was real... that what he said was true, because he didn't love her because someone had told him to. He loved her because he loved her... for her. She wrapped her arms around him and breathed out slowly, calming herself. "I love you... thank you for putting things into perspective..." She whispered, meaning it. She knew that sometimes she just needed that down to earth reminder, and to be grounded again. "I love you... and that was my choice." She whispered, her smile returning again, for it was true.
Reece's expression became more serious and worried as she changed the topic slightly to focus on their plans. He gently pulled her up beside him and wrapped an arm around her. "We don't have to rush into it." he whispered. "We can take as long as you want... and just tell me what I can do to make it easier for you... to make it less scary. The last thing I want is for you to be scared of me, and something meant to be enjoyable." he said seriously. "Besides, I doubt I could ever be disappointed by you." he kissed her cheek. "Is there something I can do to help you out with this?"

Topher smiked softly as he walked into the dressing room "hey...how was class? You feeling alright?" He helped her pack and pecked her lips "shall I carry you home?" He nudged his nose to hers "you made a lot of little girls really happy honey..." He assured and leaned his head on her shoulder "Josh got in a fight...at school...I need help."
Thomas nodded and urged Sampson to look at the second baby girl who wasn't fussing very peaceful looking around the tent interested with huge brown eyes. Thomas went and hugged Maria tightly "I need you to promise me that you won't die...you can't die...you cant..." He was obviously in shock and dealing with past pain. He needed to know the love of his life right now woukdnt leave like his wife and daughter tried to.
Ren smiled and pecked her nose as he held her hands in his "and plenty of wedding plans that are all yours...and telling your parents and brother...before the paper does...and well I, I have many after wedding trip plans up my sleeve." He whispered in her ear wanting to see that little shudder go through her body he adored it.
Abby nuzzled him and shook her head "just...take it slow...just kisses and cuddling for now...I'll get there...I just...need time...I just know that you are a man and you need...attention...so teach me...so I can take care of you..."

April looked up as Topher came in and she smiled lightly, nodding as they packed away the rest of their things, still sitting on the bench in the change room. "the day went all right. It was nice to see so many smiling faces and pink tutus." she said, her expression light, even though it was clear that she was tired. "Joshua... in a fight?" She asked, finding it hard to believe that the sweet little boy would ever get into a fight. "I'll help any way I can..." She promised. "Did they tell you what happened, or why exactly?"
Sampson accepted the little girl into his arms where he cradled her, his worried expression turning into a small smile. He rocked her gently, running his thumb over her cheek, trying to think of his child and how they now had a larger family.
Maria leaned into Thomas, holding him tight just as he held her. She knew that losing his previous wife had been hard, and that having his daughter experience near death twice made it worse. But she knew she couldn't promise something like that to him. "I'll try my best." she whispered, kissing his cheek. "I promise I'll try my very best."
Joyella closed her eyes, allowing herself to just react by feeling his hands around hers, and his lips on her face, and then her ear. An involuntary shiver rolled down the length of her body and a smile crept onto her features. "Plans..." She repeated softly, clearly feeling better, her cheeks flushed. "I'd like to hear these plans..." Her smile widened slightly and she finally opened her eyes. "We won't be able to have our wedding until after Donavon and Ella, but we might as well tell my family sooner than later... before they see that picture."
Reece nodded, pulling her against him and wrapping his arms around her. "Got it." he whispered, kissing her hair and just resting beside her. He was fine with this arrangement. Besides, he enjoyed holding her very much. "Get some rest, we both need it." he whispered, tucking his face against her head, kissing her once more before he let his eyes close. "Goodnight, Abby." He whispered, a deep sigh leaving his body.

Topher sighed running a hand through his hair "it was the boys that hurt Rags...when we were living on the streets...he got angry and...attacked them. He came home with a black eye and bloody nose but those kids are worse off...he's suspended and it'll take a lot to get him back in their good graces...what did I do wrong April? Did he get that example from me?"
Jackie slowly came to and whinpered "ow...Sampson..." She whispered thinking he was holding Myra "I need to feed her...need to feed Myra..." Even in her ill state she knew that wasn't her daughter, Myra was bigger and less hair with blue eyes "where's my baby?!" She tried to sit up scared looking around frantically.
Thomas sighed and pecked her cheek and nuzzled her lovingly as he kissed her softly on the lips and pulled back to help Habi with the frantic Jackie who was trying to get up off the furs.
Ren nodded "I may have to go home to tell my parents...I have seen them in awhile..." He put his hands on her shoulders and smiled softly "honey...you can't come with me you know that...my country is in war and I can't risk you...will you be alright without me for a short bit? I promise I'll come back to my beautiful soon to be wife." He pressed his lips between her eyes and then her lips.
Abby closed her eyes and fell asleep in his arms comfortable and perfectly context "I love you..." She whispered before drifting off into peaceful night.
Donavon came to Ella and smiled "haven't seen you all day...you ok?..."

April frowned, not liking that at all... boys had hurt that sweet innocent little thing? Well then she wanted to take a swing at them as well. She knew this probably wasn't helping at all, and when she glanced at Topher, his defeated stance made her gut sink. She wrapped an arm around his shoulders, and her forehead creased in concern. "He's an honourable boy, Topher, and he gets that from you. There is nothing wrong with standing up for the weak, who can't stand up for themselves." She kissed his cheek. "Let's get the story from Joshua, then we can decide where to go from there... I'm sure it wasn't his fault." She said, hoping this made things a little better.
Sampson gasped and sobbed in relief, immediately hugging Jackie gently, pecking her forehead and smiling. "Oh... you have no idea how worried I was about you!" He said, shaking his head. "I was so so worried..." He lay the little girl in her arms. "Myra is being taken care of, don't worry. This is her twin... our new daughter." he said softly. There was nothing but joy and absolute love in his eyes and expression. He was clearly proud of her and his family.
Joyella's happy expression dwindled to one of worry and sadness when he said he had to go back to his country. She knew well that it was at war. After all, it had been at war for a long time now. "I guess I'll be ok..." she said softly, not liking being parted from him at all. As a child she sometimes wished he'd be gone forever... but no longer. "As long as you come back soon..." she knew she sounded needy, but she was so so worried for him! "I wish I could come..." She said a little softer. Wife. What a lovely title. "You better come back to make me your wife." she warned in mock sternness, but her smile was wavering.
Ella looked up when Donavon came down the hall and she pulled on a smile, walking with him down the hallway to the drawing room, where they had some privacy. As soon as she could, she sank into one of the chairs, sighing softly, visibly exhausted. "it's been a long couple of days..." She admitted. "And with the wedding tomorrow... there's just been so much going on... and I really regret missing that vacation... but Abby's been sick... and..." she shook her head, rubbing her temples. "I'm fine... just a little overwhelmed."

Topher helped her into the cab and back to their little home. He knocked on his brother's door pausing to scratch Rag's ears "Josh...come out I need to talk to you...come on kid. I know you are in there..." He sughed running hands through his hair as he picked up Rags and put him in April's arns to get him to calm down. Rags didn't like being without Joshua for long.
Jacklyn looked down at the baby she didn't know how she felt... overwhelmed and panicked. She kissed her forehead and shook her head "Tsia...that's my baby girl...Im sorry I didn't...know you...im sorry..." She whispered and looked up at Sampson "I love you...im sorry...im sorry..."
Rachelle dressed in the white slip as her father annointed her with the flammable liquid before she would be tied up "daddy I don't want you there...if he doesn't...I don't want you to watch..."
Ren catessed her cheek with nothing but love in his heart and eyes "you can't...I can't risk you being hurt, they would assassinate you if they knew..." He whispered and kissed her neck "I want you to be safe...I'll come home and make you my wife. But you still stay here with Abby and Donavon..."
Donavon held her closr to him and kissed down her neck inhaling her scent "we have a week without publicity and just enjoy eachothers company and love...think about that. The wedding will be beautiful and everyone is well...I want you to think about that...try not to stress it does no good..,you need planty of sleep for tomorrow. Afterall you will become my wife and Queen..."

April packed her stuff into the cab and brought it along with them on the stop to Topher's house. She held Rags and tried to soothe him, petting his ears and scratching his back.
Joshua was silent in his room for a while, as he was tucked under his blankets, not ever wanting to come out again. But he wasn't one to ignore his brother, and if he was asked to do something, no matter how painful, he would. So he padded over to the door, opening it slowly and just standing there, his eyes on the floor. "What." He whispered.
Sampson held Jacklyn in his arms, not willing to let her or his daughter go. "She's so sweet, isn't she?" he asked softly, leaning down to catch her lips. "As are you." His smile was soft as he nuzzled her and relaxed finally. "there is nothing to be sorry about..." he assured. "I'm just so relieved that this all worked out ok. And we have another daughter!"
Her father had unshed tears blooming in his eyes as he kissed both her cheeks and took her hand, squeezing it gently. "I'll be there, Ella. I would never leave my little girl alone. Especially not if she were to die." he whispered, having to turn away for danger of his emotions getting the better of him.
Joyella closed her eyes, trying to breathe, trying to convince herself that he would be alright, that everything was going to be alright, that in a few short days he'd be back again, and they could make wedding plans. "I'll stay." she promised softly. "Please don't be gone long." she whispered, leaning into him as she tucked her head against his chest. "I worry so much..." she admitted. She was so afraid, something might happen to him.
Ella closed her eyes, relaxing to his touch. "Yes." She agreed softly. Their wedding would be a beautiful thing. She knew that. It would be something grand as well. And then they would get to escape, and he would take off her elaborately tailored dress, and they could just be together. She was nervous and excited and stressed and worried all at once, but mostly just looking forward to it. "We will be married tomorrow..." She whispered, her smile soft. "We dreamed about this as kids... remember?"

Topher led him back in the room and sat on the bed and watched his brother "are you ok?..." He whispered pushing his hair back "Josh what even happened? You don't get into fights that isn't like you...did something provoke you? Did they hurt you?" He asked needing to know how the sweetest boy on earth could get into a fight.
Jackie nodded and smiled down at her "Myra needs to meet her sister and they both are probably starving..." She whispered nuzzling her and kissing her dark hair "Tsia and Myra..." She said pleased and smiled up at him "are you ok?...I just remember your voice was panicked...I was scared for you..."
Rachelle swallowed and turned for him to look at her as she hugged him tightly some tears splashing on his robe as she was escorted to the stake.
Ren played with her hair and just listened to the silence her warm body next to his "im not letting you go..." He promised and nuzzled her and kissed her forehead "it's far past your bedtime, I shall walk you to your room and leave before you awake...I'll be home before you know it Joy...and I'll hold you and be very tempted to have you again...but I'll wait properly for our wedding."
Donavon stroke her hair and caressed her cheek with the back of his hand. He nodded and smiled "don't think it'll be what we imagined though...I don't think I'll be playing the piano to walk you down the aisle and then run back to marry you like we practiced...and our rings won't be made or crabgrass and dandelions..."

Joshua followed his brother back into the room, climbing back into bed and wrapping the still warm covers around himself. He didn't look at Topher, he still didn't have the heart to. He just clutched the blankets and stared at them. "They were talking about mongrels and street rats." He whispered softly, knowing that his brother would understand that the boys had meant Rags and him.
Sampson looked pleadingly at Maria who immediately nodded and left the tent for a moment, coming back with Myra in her arms. She lay her beside Tsia with Jackie, and then left the lovebirds alone.
Sampson allowed himself to relax beside his wife and family again, his smile soft. "You were worried for me?" He said softly. "I was so afraid for you..."
Her father hugged her tightly, clutching his daughter to himself for one more moment before he let her walk out and to where the ceremony would be. He just stood back and watched as she was secured and wood was piled around her. Habi was still no where in sight, as he was cleaning up his belongings from helping Jackie still.
Joy nodded, keeping her head tucked against him for one more moment, her cheeks slightly flushed, before she stepped back and gave him a worried smile. "As long as I have your word that you'll come back." She said softly, walking with him out of the stables and back to her room. She changed quickly behind the screen before coming out and climbing under the covers in bed. "Will you stay till I fall asleep?" She asked hopefully.
Ella shifted so she was leaning against him, her head tucked on his shoulder. Her smile was light and wistful as she thought of their childhood dreams. "True... but my bouquet will still have lilies, roses, and pussywillows, and my gown still shimmers, just like we planned." She smiled, feeling much more relaxed now, and less full of pre wedding jitters, even though she knew they would return in the morning. "How many guests are there? A couple thousand?" she asked in mock seriousness, as she knew this was to be quite the big affair.

Topher sighed and moved his hair back away from his eyes "you aren't anymore...they have no power we are as well off as they are...even more so because we have eachother and love...I don't think those boys feel that at home do you?"
Jackilyn started to feed Tsia just enjoying this quiet moment with her new family "do you think she'll always be so small?....Myra will always look older..." She said worried for the future and their relationships.
The ceremony wasn't a public thing, they don't gather everyone to watch. She swallowed the tears as Habi wasn't here. The first match was lit starting the straw on fire still safely away from her for now but it'll spread quickly. She closed her eyes as she felt the fire licking the back of her legs.
Ren looked away as she changed then turned as she got into bed. He pecked her forehead and noxded "of course...we are engaged this isn't against the rules anymore..." He steoke her hair drifting her to sleep as he watched over the future wife and queen.
Donavon laughed and shook his head "a mere hundred are allowed in the ceremony I made sure of that...outside the chapel I cannot control. But does that ease some fears?"

Joshua sighed, slowly nodding as he thought about that. Of course he knew he had a happier life than the boys. But it was still easy to feel small and picked on. And when they were picking on Rags.... He bit his lip. "No... I suppose they don't feel that at home." he agreed, the blanket still clutched in his hands. He didn't like being in trouble, not from the teachers, and certainly not from his brother. And now he wouldn't get to go to school...
Sampson watched his girls, comparing how small little Tsia was, to Myra. "Yes, Tsia will probably be a little smaller even as they both grow... but I feel that siblings like to be different from each other. They like to be special. I'm sure it won't become an issue." he said, trying to reassure his wife.
Rachelle's father stood on, clearly worried, but not going to leave, he wasn't going to leave his daughter's side. However, it was taking a lot of constraint for him not to run to her and release her.
Habi was walking back to his tent when he saw the flames and he immediately swore, not having realized they would start this this early in the day. He dropped his things and ran towards the fire, not about to leave her alone.
Joyella curled up among the covers, shifting until she was comfortable and then relaxing. "Good..." She whispered, closing her eyes and focusing on the lovely feeling of his fingers through her hair. In no time at all, she had drifted off. However, as she slept, she dreamed of strange far away places, and Ren, in his homeland.
Ella smiled meekly, knowing she was probably foolish to be so nervous, but she really was. What if she tripped? Or spilt something on her dress? Or stuttered? Or fainted!? "Yes... some fears..." She agreed, pulling back enough so she could look up at him. "Can we sleep on the same bed tonight, or is that not allowed?" she asked, knowing she was probably going to be stressing all night to, and that she'd sleep better if she was in his arms. But she wasn't sure if that was allowed, with the whole, don't see each other on the day before, thing.

Tooher rubbed his back and hugged him close "I love you...im disappointed but I'll never stop loving you. You'll still learn...I'll teach you at home until they allow you back. April will too, she's worried about you too...we love you and it's hard seeing you hurt...physically and emotionally..."
Jackie slowly nodded always feeling better around him and nuzzled his chest "you actually got to see one of our children be born...how was that?..." She was unconscious but she knew he didn't leave her side once during it.
Rachelle was already unconscious from the smoke inhalation and dropped against the ropes as the flames surrounded her. The Elder stopped him as tradition and held up the knife "to save this virgin you must wash the knife with your blood and swear to hold her to you till the last breath you breaghe."
Donavon sighed as he considered it and nodded crawling into bed with her "I'll leave before you get up so technically it isn't against the rules...I don't want to be alone either." He admitted and held her close to his chest "it's the happiest day of our lives tomorrow..."

Joshua was stiff for a moment, worried, and then he melted against his brother, curling up. He couldn't stay stoic much longer, and his eyes flooded with tears as he cried softly, clutching his big brother. "I didn't mean to... I'm sorry..." He said, knowing he really wasn't that sorry for beating up the boys at the time, but his brother was right, they were probably lonely, and they didn't deserve getting beat up, just like he didn't either. "I'm so sorry..."
Sampson chuckled, thinking for a moment. "Well... it was very stressful, messier than I expected, and quite the ordeal, but it was miraculous at the same time, and I'm very glad I was here." He said honestly, rubbing his thumb gently over her hand.
Habi cursed and took the knife, cutting into his arm, over the view, and letting the red liquid run over the blade. "I swear to hold her until my very last breath." he said, stepping into the flames and using the knife to slice the ropes, catching Rachelle as she sagged into his arms. He carried her out of the flames, staggering a little as he was still losing blood, and then laid her on the grass.
Ella smiled, curling up next to him and holding his hand in her own. "Goodnight handsome man." She whispered, allowing her eyes to close. "we better get some rest."
When she opened her eyes again, it was to the maids waking her and demanding that she get ready, and into a tub to bathe, as there were lots of preparations to be made before the wedding. So she sat and allowed them to scrub her, dry her, then comb out her hair and add natural oils for scent and shine. Then, a maid went to retrieve the wedding dress.

Topher rubber his back and held him close, he lay down on the bed and closed his eyes just relaxing with his little brother "do you remember what dad told us?...a coward fights back...but a man can stay silent in adversity. Do you know what that means Josh?"
Jackilyn laughed softly amused at his description "indeed...well Im sorry it was so stressful...but we are all fine and we have two beautiful daughters...is your dad still expecting us? Or are we heading back to the ship...I don't want the girls to get sick...and around your crew..."
Rachelle started to cough and stir as she opened her eyes and winced in pain. She had some minor burns across her back and legs that were painful "Habi..."
Donavon helped himself get ready and smiled at his dad hugging him as he dressed in his tux "thanks dad...I love you...do you think I'm ready to be King?" He smiled as Joyella stepped in but the look on her face worried him "Joy what is it? Why aren't you with Abby?"

Joshua curled up against his big brother, keeping his face half tucked in the sheets, and half in his brother's shirt as he tried to regain control of his emotions and wipe away the tears. "It means... it means that strong people can stay silent?" he asked softly, hoping he got the question right. He wanted to do something right after he had done so much wrong. But though he had heard these words before, he wasn't quite sure what they meant.
Sampson's smile was enough of an agreement as he looked down at his three beautiful girls, two of them sleeping quietly, and the third he kissed on the cheek. "I hear your message, don't worry. We're still going to my father's. He's expecting us. And that old house that my brother never moved into... we could move into that, if you wished, hire a new captain for the ship, for now." he offered, hearing the nerves in her voice at the thought of bringing their girls on the ship.
Habi immediately rolled her gently onto her side, assessing the burns that had eaten through her slip and some of her skin on her back. "Minor burns." he sighed in relief, glad she wasn't too hurt. "We should get some ointment for the sting..." his breath was short and laboured. "And... I need stitches." he mumbled, tearing off a bit of his shirt and trying to weakly wrap it around his bleeding arm. In haste to get enough blood and save his love, he had cut quite deeply into a vein.
James placed his hands on his son's shoulders, surveying him. "You've become twice the man I was at your age." he said, his eyes twinkling with a bittersweet joy. "I'm proud of you son. You're ready." he left him some privacy as Joyella came in to wish him well before the wedding, as was customary. But evidently, she couldn't hide her worry bout Ren. "Abby is with Reece." She said softly, fiddling with her glove. "I came to tell you good luck..." she smiled weakly and walked over, hugging him.
Ella got into her undergarments, and then got laced up into her dress. Hair came next. And then makeup, and then final touches with the veil and shoes. She could already hear the wedding bells, and her heart skyrocketed. Please don't trip... please don't faint... please.... She mumbled, not ready for this, and yet so excited. "It's almost time, miss." A maid said.

Topher smiled softly "kind of...it means that you are seen are stronger when you don't fight. People respect you more and you grow as a man...dad was like that. If he was upset hed say it with a calm powerful voice that was far more effective then yelling or fighting. He was strong because he was controlled...do you understand?"
Jackie sighed in relief and nodded "Calder is fine being raised that way but not the girls...I don't want them pirates, I just think they are so lovely and I love the sea but what if they don't? What if they want to be proper ladies...I just want to wait awhile...would that upset you terribly?"
Thomas rushed to his friend's aid and got his arm stitched and bandaged up. He got the love birds in bed together as customary "you alright? Can I get you anything?"
Donavon hugged her tightly and blinked at the large stone on her finger "seems like congratulations are in order...but why are you so sad and upset? You are engaged this is good yes?...and where is your fiancé he didn't ask my permission to marry you."
Abby came in and hugged her sister tighrly being careful not to ruin her dress "im not leaving your side..." She promised as Marcoux took her arm and started to lead her to where she was supposed to walk through the doors and down the aisle.

Joshua listened as his brother spoke, committing the words to his memory so he could remember them later. Stay calm. Be strong. "I understand." he said softly. "I need to be calm and controlled like Dad." He said softly. He had once asked often when their father would come back... now that he was slightly older, he no longer asked. He didn't want to know the answer, for he already worried about what it was.
Sampson nodded in understanding. "So we'll raise them in a house, and if one or both of them should want to go to the sea, so be it. Should they want to be ladies, that'll be good too." He kissed her cheek. "I won't be upset, I promise. Besides. Calder is nearly old enough to captain the ship himself. Only a couple more years now..."
Habi was more than relieved when Thomas found them, and he told him about needing stitches. Once his arm was stitched and bandaged, he relaxed beside Rachelle. "Could you get some salve, the type for burns?" he requested, wanting to relieve Rachelle of some pain. "And that's all. Thank you so much Thomas."
Joyella nodded sheepishly, stepping back a bit as she fingered the ring on her hand. "The engagement is good... yes... and I think he only didn't ask you because we're betrothed..." She suggested, feeling badly that Donavon was only hearing about it now. "But he had to leave... to his own country to inform his parents and see his family... his country is at war Donavon... I'm so worried for him..." she shook her head, feeling selfish for bringing this up moments before the wedding, but it was a true fear of hers, and she was always honest with her brother. "I would have gone... but he insisted it wasn't safe to come along..."
Ella smiled when Abby came in, glad for a familiar face, and happy to see her doing better. "Thank you." She whispered back, as she took her father's arm, smiling nervous at him. A million things could go wrong right now, and it would be horrible to make a bad first impression as queen... she swallowed the lump in her throat, able to watch from behind the doors as people started to take their seats and get ready for the wedding.

Topher sighed and held him close "I think your old enough to know what happened Josh...Dad isn't dead as we have all been hinting at...he left us. He has a new family and lives in the country...he isn't a man to look up to Josh. I just...wanted you to see him as a hero, I didn't want you to feel so alone...but we aren't alone and we have so much love and support and I'll never leave...I swear."
Jackilyn frowned worriedly "so young? Sampson he isn't ready...without you the crew won't respect him. You still live on the sea...I'll raise our girls and you come back to me...but I won't let you leave your passion...no matter what."
Rachelle gripped onto his shirt still out of it as she curled up close to him taking in his scent "you claim me?..." She whispered not even expecting an answer. She was exhausted and in a fog from the pain and trauma she had went through.
Donavon pulled her into his arms and hiugged her close, knowing she was scared and that's what big brothers are for. He kissed her hair and nuzzled her "he'll be back...and then you'll have a grand time planning your own wedding...now this is a happy occasion and I need you to be brave just for a day alright? Then we will search and find out his whereabouts. I promise."

Joshua stayed quiet, but inside his heart was hurting... his father... his father who he had always imagined as his hero... was not a hero at all. He curled up tighter to Topher, not saying anything for a long moment. Finally his voice came in a hushed whisper. "You were always my hero anyways." he said, his voice clearly sad from the news, but not in the way of someone who has lost something, just more in disappointment. For Joshua had never known his father for very long, and so it was only a disappointment to learn he wasn't as good of a hero as his big brother.
Sampson chuckled. "He'll be fifteen in three years Jackie." he kissed her cheek. "He already bosses around the crew and they're good friends with him. He could be ready soon. If you want him to wait, he can wait." he promised, lacing his fingers with hers. "But I'm not leaving you and our girls... not for anything." he vowed, nuzzling her. "Family is more important than any passion of mine."
Habi opened the jar of salve and gently soothed some over the burns on her legs, working up until he had covered the ones on her back as well. "Yes." he whispered, focusing intently on his work until he was sure she wasn't feeling as much pain anymore, so he put the jar back on the salve and put it on the nightstand.
Joyella clung to him for the moment that he was hugging her, and she allowed herself to breathe out one long breath to calm down before she nodded hesitantly and stepped back, managing a smile as she looked up at him. "Thank you." The strings started up their music in the great hall where the guests were waiting, and Joyella patted his arm. "That's your cue! Good luck!" she said, leaving to go to her spot for the wedding.

Topher tucked the blankets around him and kissed his temple "I've got you...you have a goodnight sleep alright?" He whispered and turned down the oil lamp letting his brother sleep from such a traumatic day. He wrapped April up in his arms and just held her "I think he'll be ok..,he's a good kid...just some old beliefs creeping in..."
Jackie beamed glad that he wouldn't leave and tucked the furs around him and snuggled into his chest "thank you...I love you...I just can't believe my boy is all grown and becoming captain...it's just too...strange..." She admitted and kissed his chest "means im old...probably going grey right this minute."
Rachelle sighed in relief as the pain eased and nuzzled him softly "I love you Habi...thank you for saving me...will...will Mani be alright with this? I don't want to intrude...I know you've both been through so much..."
Donavon cleared his throat and walked to the alter. He waited till the double doors opened and the armed guards lifted their swords as she passed underneath. He was astonished at how a woman he always thought as a goddess could be even more lovely and graceful. He smiled and took her hand helping her up the steps "hard pasty is over.. "

April had been looking at the clock and worrying as Topher talked with Joshua. She needed to get home soon, as it was getting late, and she didn't feel right staying too late after staying the night one night already. She heard Joshua mumble goodnight as Topher finally opened the door again and she hugged him. "I'm glad he's doing better." she said softly, lifting up to kiss his cheek. "And I do hope all this blows over soon..." she bit her lip as she glanced at the clock again. "I should be getting back home..."
Sampson tucked the furs around them, smiling softly as he nuzzled his face against her neck and relaxed. "Even when the silver starts showing, I'll love you still, always have, always will." He kissed her neck, closing his eyes and letting out a happy sigh. He lay back his head again and tucked his chin over hers. "You're still young, Jackie, we're both still young. Not even halfway through our lives yet."
Habi wrapped his arm gently around her, holding her against him, protecting her. His heart softened at her worry for Mani and he smiled, kissing her forehead. "Mani will be thrilled to finally have a mother." He promised, kissing her again, this time on her nose. "And he'll be even more thrilled that it's you." He added, finally pecking her lips gently. "I know I'm happy to have you..."
Ella was nervously standing with her father outside the doors when her cue came, and she stepped into the huge room filled with people and slowly walked down the Isle. She was glad that she was with her father, or she knew she would have fallen over or tripped or something. When he placed her hand in Donavon's, she felt her heart constrict, and she stepped up beside her love, smiling nervously at him. He certainly looked good in his uniform... polished for the wedding. "Catch me if I faint?" she whispered, smiling lightly as the priest started to talk.

Topher glanced out the window and saw the snow fall heavily down. He shook his head making the decision "no..,it's not safe to drive home...I can make up the couch if you are more comfortable...Brooklyn moved out anyways right? I don't think you want to be home alone...just stay ok?
Rachelle smiked her cheeks flushed as he called her 'mother' "I just hope I do it alright...I don't know much...I never had cared for children in my lifetime..." She admitted to him and bit her lip "please teach me if I'm doing it wrong...I don't want to mess up...he's such a wonderful kid..."
Donavon winked and said his vows sincerely a soft smile on his lips as he promised her the world and intended to keep every promise for her. He slipped the ring on her finger and kissed her respectively as if it was their first kiss as they were pronounced man and wife.

April followed Topher's gaze outside, and while she thought it wasn't snowing that heavily, she wasn't going to outright disagree with him. She didn't feel comfortable intruding so long on his house and personal space, but it looked like she would be staying the night here. "Ok." She said softly, wrapping her arms around herself in a sort of lonely hug. "I'll stay tonight, don't make up the couch if its more work for you." she whispered, not wanting to be a bother.
Habi tucked his forehead against hers, a soft smile warming his features. "Just continue to be just as you are around him. You've always been gentle and a good friend, and that's why he looks up to you, and the reason he was happy when he heard of our relationship." He smiled then. "But if you happen to do something wrong, I'll do my best to help out." he promised, twining his fingers with hers. "And now... let's both get some rest... today was quite stressful."
Ella felt herself falling in love with this man all over again as he said his vows, and she knew he meant them by the expression in his eyes. Her heart thudded unsteadily when it came her turn, but she pulled through, and didn't stutter once, to her great relief. She kissed him at the end of the ceremony, feeling lightheaded and happy. She was married! She beamed then, squeezing Donavon's hand. "We did it!" She whispered, walking down the Isle again with him, and towards the front steps of the palace. She had no idea what he had planned for their honeymoon, but as long as it meant them alone, she would be happy.

Topher frowned seeing those walls slowly build themselves up again "April...please...I don't want to force you into anything...I would prefer you stay but if you don't want to then I will take you home...but is a pleasure to be with you...makes our house have a spirit that it never had." He wrapped his arms around her from behind and nuzzled her "don't be upset honey...it breaks my heart."
Rachelle laughed softly and nuzzled him as she closed her eyes "I love you...lets rest for tomorrow we will be married...and that night will not have rest.." She flushed almost ashamed as she had never experianced before and it was frightening and yet so exciting.
Donavon smiled and waved royally to the kingdom and did his King duty as he helped her into the Royal carriage pulled by four white horses. He waved at the crowd and laughed softly "we are going to America for our honeymoon."

April closed her eyes, loosing a sigh when Topher started to talk again. She knew he had picked up on her feelings somehow, and that she was closing herself in again. It was only natural, even though she felt bad for it. She knew she was being hard on Topher because he knew hardly anything about the reasons. And she wasn't sure she wanted to open up about that part of the past yet. She wanted this love to be real, so she didn't want to force it along too quickly, and she wanted it to be real because she felt she had never been loved in her life before. "I... I'm sorry... I don't know how to... explain..." She whispered, leaning into his arms. The strength and warmth of them never ceased to comfort her. But her nervous heart wasn't good at trusting. "It's alright... it's ok. I can stay the night... it'll just be the first time I've ever been two nights away from home..." her father had had this rule... April winced. She was admitting too much already.
Habi felt his heart warm like tinder catching light and he smiled, pulling up the furs around them both so they would be cozy and warm. The nights would be getting colder soon as winter drew on. "I promise to be good to you." He whispered, tucking himself around her so he was comfortable and she was nestled in his arms. "Goodnight Rachelle."
Ella walked out with him, feeling as grand as the queen she had become as people cheered for them. She tossed her bouquet behind her and waved to everyone before being helped into the Royal carriage. It was the most beautiful thing... like a fairytale. "America!" she gasped, elated. "We are going to America!? But that means going on a ship! I've never been on a ship before..." She said excited and nervous. "When will we leave? How long will the journey take? Where will we be staying?"

Topher sighed lightly and pressed his lips to her hair, he wished beyond anything this Christmas that he would gain her trust. He thought he was on the right path but now...he now knew he only chipped a piece off of the wall not even close to knocking it down. But the feelings he had were more important then his own ego and he'd move slower though it may just kill him. He rubbed her arm and sighed as he felt it prickle. Best to leave her be right now he went to get the bed prepared as Rags trotted in and licked her hand nuzzling his head up against her whimpering concerned.
Thomas smiled softly as he slowly helped Jennifer to her feet, it was time to start walking again. He held her hands and guided her across the tent before letting go of her shaking hands "you've got this honey, you are all healed..." He encouraged eager to see her walk again and be healed.
Mani smiled next to her kind of there to catch her if she starts to topple. It had been long months and he was eager to play with his friend again. They were a bit older and playing was less common but when they did see eachother they just sat and talked and he enjoyed it far more then hunting with the men.
It had been weeks since the wedding, Joyella received a letter leyter her know that Ren had been captured by the enemy line and a ransom of the kingdom or his life. Donavon and Ella were still enjoying America together and had no word of it. Abby was learning to be active again and was less I'll everyday she had color again and ran and rid horseback with Reece who got an official knighthood for his bravery.

April closed her eyes when she felt the kiss, and she let it warm and comfort her just like it always did. She turned and watched him leave then, not making a move to stop him, even as her insides tightened into painful knots. She knew that the pain that kept her from opening up, was also hurting Topher, and it just made everything worse. Lowering herself to the couch slowly, she swallowed, picking up Rags and cuddling him close. "I don't know what to do." She whispered, burying her face in his fur. She figured he would be easier to talk to, and less scary, than a human. "I want to open up so badly... I know I have too many walls... and yet I'm so afraid..." She scratched his ears, her throat constricting. "Have you ever wanted something so badly, and yet been terrified of it?" She asked him, "No... of course you haven't. You're just a sweet little puppy." She whispered, wishing her life could be as simple as Rag's.
Jennifer was healed, and no longer in pain, but her muscles did not want to cooperate. She made it across the room with help, and after some slow coaxing was finally able to get her feet to move one after the other, but in all honesty, she still felt like an invalid. After months and months of being babied, she wanted to do this one thing right. She tottered halfway across the tent on her own, and then tripped over the furs because she didn't lift her leg high enough, and toppled right into the waiting Mani. Her cheeks burned in shame and she closed her eyes, clearly angry at herself. "I can't do this!" She said, frustrated. She hated not being able to do things by herself, and she was so frustrated that she wasn't getting better immediately.
When Joyella slit open the envelope and scanned her eyes over the yellowish paper with rushed scrawl across it, she sucked in a breath as if she had been punched in the gut and had had the wind knocked out of her. The thought of Ren, her Ren, bound and waiting for execution was too much. For she knew, just as well as anyone else, that a good King and Queen had to put the people before even their own family, and that they could not give up the kingdom for one man. Even if it had been a possibility, it would take months for a letter to reach Donavon, let alone for him to travel back across the ocean and discuss this. There was only one way to save Ren now, and she knew he was going to hate her for it. Her hands shook so hard that the letter slipped from them as she sank down against the wall, taking a shuddering breath, and sobbed.
An hour later, when Joyella had run out of tears and composed herself, she sat down to pen a letter in reply, which she immediately sent off in express mail.
To Whomever this May Concern,
I am the princess of England, her Royal Highness Joyella Maria, and though I regret to inform you that we can not hand over the kingdom under any circumstance, I do have something else to offer you, which I suggest you carefully consider. I offer you a marriage treaty so you would gain England as an ally and a strong trade partner. As tradition states, I would be wed to your ruler or heir to solidify the treaty, and as a token of our goodwill. Should you agree to these terms, we would require Prince Renold to be unharmed and returned safely back into England. It is also my personal request that he not be told of these arrangements. Should you agree, please respond with your desired meeting place and date for exchange.
Best Regards,
Joyella.

Topher was eavesdropping and sighed listening to how she poured her heart to the little raggedy dog that had nothing but pure love to give. He slowly approached her and sat on the couch ushering Rags to leave as he pulled her close one arm around her shoulders securely "if you just be open with me im sure I could help...or try to. I just want you to be happy and it's obvious you aren't...I know you don't talk about your past but maybe it would help to let it all out and not keep it inside eating you slowly..."
Mani caught her and held her close just letting her vent, he had been through this with her so many times in the past months it didn't even phase him "yes you can, it was just one misstep! Look how far you got on your own...when a few months ago we didn't think you'd ever wake up let alone walk..." It had been the most terrifying and trying time for him as he grew into a man and learned to care for those he loved "let's try it again...one step at a time...I'll move the furs and rugs."
A letter was sent shortly after apologizing for the circumstances but they were declining her offer. They sent a finger along with the next letter demanding money now and riches. Ren was chained and tortured losing the will to live except for the promise he made Joyella to come back. Donavon had heard and sailed home going to his sister "I'll be going out there, but clearly through your letter you are the better negotiator. We will pay the funds but then murder the clan before it grows...we will get the prince back and arrange the marriage immediately to combine the kingdoms and start the war."

April had not heard Topher enter. She did, however, look up when she felt him sink into the couch beside her. She was glad he was back... even though it pained her that she kept hurting him and sending him away. She leaned into his embrace and closed her eyes, listening as he spoke. She wanted his help... she desperately did... but she didn't know how... she had no idea how to open up. Talking about her past was so frightening. Somehow she felt he would see her as childish, or petty, or pitiful, or something else equally bad if she told him. And yet something in her, the brave part of her, choked the words out. "I've never felt like I've ever been truly loved." she whispered. "I knew what my father was using Brooklyn for... and sometimes I didn't care. I wished I could trade places with her. He would still carry her on his shoulders, and buy her dolls and other toys, and laugh with her and tell her how wonderful she was. All I ever got was a beating where no one would see it and a sour word about how much better my twin was. How clumsy and useless I was." She whispered, her face scrunching up in pain.
Jennifer felt her frustration and anger immediately calming down and washing away at his words, both calming and encouraging at the same time. She swallowed, taking a deep breath, and then slowly got her feet beneath her again with his help. "Thank you Mani." She said, giving him a smile. He sure deserved it. She knew this. "I wouldn't have been able to get this far without you." She steadied herself and then took a step, waiting until her legs stopped wobbling, before taking another step, and another... and soon she had crossed the tent without any mishaps. A huge grin lit on her face as she turned back to him. "Did you see that!?"A part of her knew this was childish, to be happy over something so small, but it was such a big accomplishment.
In the months it took for Donavon to return after she had received a return letter from the clans, Joyella had deteriorated in health. Her appearance was haggard and her eyes bloodshot as she hadn't been eating or sleeping as of late, she had been pacing the halls at night, worrying, and then pacing some more. When Donavon returned, she hadn't even the strength to greet him joyously, as she usually did, she just continued pacing restlessly like a caged tiger and venting. "I offer them the world and they turn it down, asking for something half the worth? Are they literally brainless? At this point I'm not sure I'm dealing with humans anymore. They're not looking out for their own interests! It's like this is a personal vendetta against me!" She cried, her voice frantic. "No reasonable country who actually is looking out for themselves in a ransom would turn down an offer like that. I offered them diamonds and they refused it and asked for pennies! A reasonable ruler would have known this would send them into war, and that they would lose!" Joyella looked slightly crazy at this point, as she kept saying the same things, half ranting, sometimes muttering, sometimes close to screaming, and most people had started to avoided the skinny princess who everyone said had 'gone completely mad'.

Mani ran and lifted her up spinning her around and holding her close "im so proud of you! That was incredible! You are amazing...I...I love you Jenn..." She said embarrased and set her down. He winced worried about what she was going to say or do. They were about 12 and feelings were certainly developing and changing. He saw her in a different light and he didn't know if she did as well.
Donavon held her in a tight hug refusing to let her go as she finally just burst out in heavy sobs releasing all the pent up anger and madness "I've got you...we are bringing him home and then sending both of you far away to heal and stay safe...don't worry my life and joy.,.your big brother is here now and they will pay for what they did...they want you to suffer because you are the key to the kingdom..,don't you understand that?"

Jennifer laughed in true delight, clinging to his arms and giggling as he spun her and then hugged her. She wrapped her arms around his waist and leaned her head on his chest, finding the motion natural and easy. She did, however, open her eyes at what he said. He loved her. She knew that before... but the way he said it this time was different. She didn't move for a moment, mulling over that revelation in her mind. He loved her! Then she relaxed against him again, letting her eyes close in contentment and trust. "I love you too." She whispered.
Joyella hated how weak she had become. She was supposed to be the strong confident outgoing young princess, full of joy. And yet here she was broken and crying in her brother's arms, near driven mad over the course of a few months. "If I am the key to the kingdom, then why did they refuse my offer of marriage?" she asked softly, finding that that one part of what he said did not line up with everything that was going on. Was her brother lying to her? She stood up and pushed away from him, looking lost and afraid like an animal scared of a lightening storm. "I am nothing. I could not even save my love." She whispered, turning and tearing from the room to run to her own bedroom, where she often sought peace and solitude. She sat in front of her desk and went through her journal again, telling of the days when she had been falling in love with Ren. "Come back to me, my love." She whispered.
Ella had missed out on the last bit of her honeymoon because of this whole situation, but she understood it was a necessity, and that as a queen she had to get used to this sort of thing. She walked up to Donavon as Joyella left, wrapping her arms around him from behind and leaning her head against his back. "Has there been news of Ren?" she asked softly, knowing better than to talk about Joyella right now.

Topher frowned and slowly moved her hair away from her face and kissed her nose "im going to make you forget...for a little bit ok?" He got up and grabbed a notebook from the desk and wrote down 100 things about why he loved her and snipped up each one in strips and put it in a jar "pick one up and read it whenever you start to think about your past. I will write new ones everyday." He smiled softly "I love you honey...and it kills me that I can't fix this and help you...but let me try."
Thomas smiled and placed a hand on her stomach kissing her temple "how are you feeling honey? The Elders say I must leave you the week of the birth. The purify period I suppose...but I don't want to. I just want to be there every moment with you...did you know that Mani admitted to loving our Jen? I just heard it...why is our girl all grown up? I don't want her to ever be touched the way I touch you...please help honey..."
Donavon sighed and motioned for her to come to the hospital and pulled a curtain showing an unconcious Ren damaged and hurting "I can't show Joyella...not yet but...please I need to get her back, I don't want him to wake up to lady Macbeth...please Ella I know this is wrong but I need my sister back...and I have to stop a war because,..I wrote the letter...I stopped the mail before she was taken for marriage...I couldn't let her become a sex slave."

April nodded, wondering whatever he could mean. She watched in interest from the couch as he got up and cut up slits of paper, pouring them into a jar. When he said to take one slip out when she started thinking of her past, her curiosity was piqued. She stood and went over to the jar, pulling out a slip and reading it. The thoughtfulness of the comment brought tears to her eyes. She hadn't even thought he noticed such a small thing about her. She put the slip and went over to him, wrapping her arms around him. Her heart had warmed a little, and she tucked her face against him. "This is literally the most thoughtful thing.... Is this what it feels like to be loved?" She whispered, wiping at her eyes. She didn't want to be crying when she felt so much joy.
Maria looked up as Thomas came in and she set down her sewing to kiss his cheek and hug him. She knew well of her people's customs, and she had no idea how she was supposed to survive the last week without him. He had been her shoulder to lean on through this pregnancy, and she was terrified of not having that anymore. "I'm doing alright... nervous, but alright." She leaned her head on his shoulder, enjoying being with him. It was sweet to learn such a wonderful news about the two lovebirds. And it was also sweet how protective her love was over his daughter. "She's still your little girl, Thomas." She assured, running her hand over his cheek and kissing him gently. "And she will be for a while. You don't have to worry about that yet. They are still young, and at most, Jen might discover what a kiss feels like. But in time... she'll be ready to start a family with Mani, and your legacy will live on through her. You want her to be happy, no? I can not think of a better man for her, than Mani."
Ella's hand went to her mouth when she saw Ren battered and unconscious on the bed. It sickened her that any man might be able to do this to a human being. But her mind went immediately from that to the problem at hand. Donavon had lied to Joyella. It was a lie to keep her safe, yes, but a lie none the less, and would be painful once discovered. "Oh Donavon..." She whispered, pulling him to herself so she could hug her clearly hurting husband. She wasn't sure she agreed with his decision and course of action, as now there was a war on their hands. They could have assassinated Joyella's barbarian husband and made her queen before she could be used. But what was done, was done, and now they had to deal with the consequences. "I'll talk to her." She promised, running her fingers through his hair. "I can't promise I'll be much help, but I will try." She vowed, kissing his forehead. "How even did you find her letter before it reached its destination?"

Topher smiled watching her face go from one of fear to one of joy. He watched her quickly brush her tears away and caught her hand before she wiped them all "it's ok April...those are tears of joy...it's ok to feel and to be vulnerable, you're safe...and the best way to heal a broken heart is to release all of that bottled emotion...to be free of all those feelings, you can't remove the memories but you can change how you feel about them. Be grateful you aren't there now...that my Christmas is complete with you." He let her rest against his chest his heart beat thudding against her cheek "that is yours...it beats to love and care for you...no matter the cost."
Thomas pressed her fingers to his lips and nuzzled them. Holding her securely against his side he rested his head against hers and just breathed in her earthy scent. Being present and focusing on this short time he had with her before their life would change, for the better yes. But still a change that he didnt feel prepared for. He looked down at her stomach amazed at how it had grown and how tired she looked. The little details around her eyes and smile showed emotional and physical exhaustion "you'll be alright...Rachelle will be the one performing the ceremony, and I'll be right outside probably fighting Habi to let me be closer..." He gave a soft chuckle but it was pained as the latterns started to wane and once they go out only the moon will light the birthing tent and he would be forbidden to enter. He kissed down her neck tears splashing without him meaning to as he was scared he lost one love from this and he knew his love for Maria was stronger and it would kill him if anything happened to her.
Donavon accepted the hug gratefully, he knew what he did was wrong and foolish but he couldn't subject his sister like that. "Im sorry...it was a rash decision but Abby told me of her plan and I had to stop it...she intercepted the mail and forged her signature till I could get to Ren and rescue him...but Joyella took the turn for the worse after that...grieving the man that was only a hallway away from her own quarters...she won't ever forgive me for lying but at least she is safe and not a pawn in this insane game." He watched Ren start to stir and felt hope rise in him "oi the lad may be up...Renold can you hear me?"
Joshua merely nodded eagerly, waving and throwing in an air blown kiss before he pounded out the door. April shook her head, slightly amused, but as ever, charmed by the young boy. She turned back to Topher then and thought. "Let's walk." She offered. "I need to grow stronger, the air is nice, and the theatre is so close anyways..." She pointed out. "And if I truly grow too tired on the way there, then we can always call a cabbie." she smiled at him, looping her arm through his. "Are you sure you want to accompany me?" She asked. "I don't want to drag you out of the way..."
Jenn tucked herself deep under the furs and blankets, as the nights were growing colder, and she snuggled up beside Mani, falling asleep with a happy smile on her face. She was truly relaxed, and looked at peace then... as if she could never have a care about anything in the world...
Rachelle's father looked up from where he was sorting out herbs into jars by the warmth and light of the fire, and he smiled at his daughter as she came in. "My dear... everyone worries about parenting... but they fail to realize that it is not a skill everyone is born with. It is a skill acquired." he explained. "You will learn as you go along, and i know you will be a wonderful mother."
Joyella's eyes lit up. She knew of keeping up appearances, and how important that was. And it would be important for the kingdoms to know that they were officially in love and accepting their betrothal. But never had anyone offered to do something this lovely with her and she grinned, looping her arm through his and smiling up at him. "Well then. Let's go on an adventure!" She walked out the front door with him, where their cab was waiting.
Ella laughed softly, amused at how excited Abby was about planning, and also very happy with the fact that her sister seemed to be revived a bit, and becoming more like her old cheery self again. "I hadn't thought about flowers yet." She admitted honestly, looking at the pictures. "I would have no idea which ones were nice. But yes, I like the doves. Such nice white feathers..." she smiled. Then one eyebrow raised. "And what about our wedding night, miss Abby?" She asked, wondering what her sister meant, and if she was teasing her or not.
