message 1601: by McKensie (new)

McKensie (that-one-girl) | 5564 comments Brooklyn smiled and shook his hand "Brooklyn...Brooklyn Laurence..." she said softly and moved her coat so he could sit by her "I know EACS, my medical school is right next to it on campus. What year are you in?" she asked and handed him her bag of chocolates "Want one? there's an adorable little candy shop in town and I couldn't resist!" she was feeling better, but after her father disowned her if she continued her path to be a doctor it was painful and she just wanted to scream and cry...

Thomas smiled as he heard the stories, it was like music and it was amazing to learn more about her culture and the history of the gypsies. He never would have guessed most of it, her voice was mystical and hypnotizing like a siren. He watched her through glazed eyes and then a sinking feeling started to grow in his heart and stomach...he was starting to like her...in a way that he would think he was cheating on Sada...he quickly got up and started to get their wagon pulled together for sleep. Anything to move away from the spell she was putting on him.

The maid smiled lightly at the girl "A little after 6...m'lady, Prince Donavon has been with your sister. She woke up and asked for oatmeal so she is doing well. Donavon insisted that I don't make you breakfast because he is taking you to a romantic breakfast away from the palace.

Lara (gurlwhowrites) | 8327 comments Matthew sat down beside her, inwardly shocked and a little miffed by the chances that he would meet the girl that had been mentioned to him. What were the possibilities? But he didn't show it, he just smiled lightly at her, nodding. "I've heard of the medical school." he agreed. "Quite the prestigious place, I'm told." he said politely, selecting a chocolate from the bag she offered and immediately his face lit up. "What sort of sorcery is this? I've never tasted chocolate so wonderful." He grinned. "You happened upon a bit of magic there, my fair lady." He winked at her, leaning back in their bench as he glanced out the window at the country passing by.

Maria did not miss how Thomas left at the end of her story, nor did she miss how both of the people in her audience were clearly enthralled by what she spoke of. And when Jeniffer drifted off to nap on the cushions, she let her rest, pulling a wool blanket over the small child and tucking it around her, as she got up to see if Thomas needed any help with their bedding for the night. "Do you have enough blankets?" She asked, from the flap of the tent. "i have plenty extra if you need anymore." She assured, not wanting them to be in want for anything, when she had more than enough to share.

Ella's eyes widened and she gasped as she went behind the changing screen and pulled on a dress, quickly knotting up her hair and adding a little makeup so she was presentable. "Already that time!" She exclaimed, rushing around as she got ready. She was going out today, after all, and she would need to bring her clutch, and an umbrella, hat, and matching coat today, just in case. And gloves. Nice dainty gloves, as the weather was colder now. Not yet snowing, but growing colder. "My sister's awake then!" She exclaimed, thrilled to hear that news. "Oh I must visit. Thank you kind Miss." She said, and rushed out of the room and down to her sister's bedroom. "Abby!" She cried, thrilled to see her pale sister awake and eating something.

McKensie (that-one-girl) | 5564 comments Brooklyn noticed a bit of hesitation when she told him her name, he seemed...taken aback and almost upset "I'm sorry don't mean to pry but...I noticed there...do I know you, or have a offended you somehow?" she wasn't one to ignore when something was amiss, she always spoke her mind and wasn't ashamed of it. She took a bite of the chocolate and nodded "I did indeed...so are you from Ireland or just visiting?"

Thomas sighed looking at her, they were alone and that did not make things easier on him. "Maria...I have to let you know, that...lately I have been experiencing feelings that I associate with lust and love that I only have felt with Sada, so I am sorry if I make you uncomfortable but I have to be honest if we are going to be living so close together...my daughter adores you and thank you for that..." he shook his head ashamed and moved the furs to make it more comfortable to sleep on the ground.

Abby looked up and gave a small weak smile, she was being spoon fed but she was slowly recovering and was glad to see her sister "heard you ruined...your new dress...mother will kill you..." she whispered and slowly closed her eyes again. The nurse smiled "She's doing really well...don't worry, her temperature has come up and her...facilities are working which means her kidneys are working fine which was a fear last night."

Lara (gurlwhowrites) | 8327 comments Matthew immediately realized that this girl was a good judge of character and emotions, and he knew that his surprise at recognizing her name might have come off as disappointed. "No no! Don't worry, I'm not offended in any way. I've just heard of you before, and I was surprised at the coincidence of getting a chance to meet you." He explained. "I am from Ireland. I grew up here, I'm just going to school in England. Where a bouts are you from?" He asked.

Maria looked surprise at his comment, and part of her started to grow really stressed about this all, but the other part of her had always known. She was very much like her sister, to the point that they used to get confused for each other sometimes. And she knew that might lead to Thomas liking her, for the very same reasons he had liked Sada, either that, or in missing Sada, he was convincing himself she was enough of a replacement. "It's alright, Thomas. I expected something like that would develop at some point or another, and I'm not bothered by it." She assured him. "It's a pleasure to help you and your family, as to be honest, it's nice to have people around that are different from the ones I see everyday."

Ella reached out and squeezed her hand tightly. "Never liked the blasted dress anyways. Horrid colour." She assured, smiling lightly. "I can always buy a new one, and talk mother into liking the new one better instead." She winked, smiling over at the nurse. "Thank you so much… I am forever grateful to you and everyone else who has helped for caring for my sister." She glanced sternly over at Abby. "Who has learned her lesson and will not be sneaking off to half frozen ponds at parties that you weren't invited to, ever again." She pecked her cheek. "Get better soon, alright? Mother's worried sick, and we shouldn't stay at the palace too much longer."

McKensie (that-one-girl) | 5564 comments Brooklyn smiled gently feeling relief that she hadn't offended him. She laughed softly "I didn't think my name was that popular, it's a beautiful country truly...so green and lush, I actually saw a sheep walk across the road!" she said pleased and flushed "I'm actually originally from America, New York. My father lives in Ireland but...he's estranged and we do not get along...he actually disowned me yesterday, so if you know any inexpensive apartments for rent I'd love to know."

Thomas sighed and nodded, he was slightly disappointed that she couldn't reciprocate his feelings, made him feel foolish even telling her, like she was pitying him. He gave a smile and turned away from her quickly to hide all emotion from her. He tucked in Jennifer and stroke her hair smiling at how beautiful and sweet she was, she was an angel and he was so lucky to have her love.

Abby gave a slow smile and shook her head "I didn't promise anything..." she teased and coughed turning her head on the pillow "Mom worries too much...go be with your Prince...I didn't nearly die for you to go back to that prick...where's Joyella?" she asked looking around for her best friend.

message 1606: by Lara (new)

Lara (gurlwhowrites) | 8327 comments Matthew smiled lightly, nodding his agreement. "It's why I love Ireland." He agreed. "I love the serenity in the countryside. England has that too further north, but London tends to be more busy." he listened to her story, surprised to meet someone from America. "Wow… that's amazing! I don't think I've met an American before." He said honestly, obviously curious about her country. "I'm sorry to hear about your father, though. I hope that resolves itself soon. I have an empty dorm connected to my own. I know the person you could talk to if you wanted it." He offered.

Maria knew Thomas was disappointed that she didn't return his feelings. But to be honest, she didn't know how she felt about him. She wanted to be special to a man, not just someone who reminded him of someone else. She knew Thomas would always love Sada, and she was ok with that. But she didn't want his love if it was only because she was so much like Sada. She walked inside and cleaned up the tent, keeping herself quiet and busy. If Thomas wanted to talk about it, he could approach her, and she would be willing to talk. But it wasn't in her personality to seek him out.

Ella shook her head, her smile light, and still slightly annoyed at how willful her little sister was. "Rest and get better, ok?" She insisted, standing again. Her sister was right however, in that she needed to go find Donavon, as she had promised him a breakfast together, and she was interested to see where he would take her. "Joyella is still in bed most likely, I'll send her down to see you." She promised, squeezing her hand once more before she left to go tell a maid to fetch Joyella, and she wandered around the hallways, looking for Donavon.

McKensie (that-one-girl) | 5564 comments Brooklyn nodded her agreement about his description of London "it's a city very much like my home, though honestly New York has a certain...dirtiness that London doesn't have. The city has history and elegance that Im afraid I've never been able to fit into." She placed another chocolate in her mouth as he spoke of her father "he doesn't believe a woman can become a medical doctor...most of my professors don't either, woman's rights are all fine and dandy until acted upon...I have to be near perfection to even manage to stay..." She admitted and glanced out the window in thought before he offered the dorm "that would be marvelous!" She said with a grateful tone of voice "I...don't even know what to say...thank you!"

Thomas awoke the next morning to the shrill whinny of horses, he blinked forgetting where he was for a moment and then it slowly came back like the break of light coming through the tent flap. He gently nudged Jenn awake knowing it was early for his little miss but this is when the gypsies moved unseen and almost mystically away. He got dressed in another tunic and helped Jen with the new dress Maria had left for her, his heart was palpitating though as another whinny cut through the silence, horses never were something he was fond of or good at. They always seemed to sense his fear and neither were comfortable with it. He saw Maria ride up on a beautiful mustang, ecru in color with brown spots he lifted the sleepy Jen into her arms so they could ride together. He didn't even want to look at the beautiful gypsy woman, he was cursed with diarrhea of the mouth and now...well he didn't need it replayed in his mind on this early morning. A black restless stallion was tossing his head against the gypsy man trying to keep it calm and he swallowed mounting it and trying to keep it steady waiting for the directions.

Donavon had been looking for her nearly all morning, he thought he made it clear to the maids that they were supposed to keep her in the guest room so he could pick her up. But, his girl was never one to follow anyone's directions and probably rushed to see her sister. He shook his head smiling lightly at the night they had experianced, though he was grateful for it because he could be open and prove his love to her. It was too soon the first time and they were both so young and naive he was a man now and he knew how to take care of her properly. He caught her gloved hand when he saw her wander the halls aimlessly "looking for me by chance?" He smiled softly kissing the back of her hand and pulling her to a hug "how did the night treat you? Did you receive some sleep?"

Lara (gurlwhowrites) | 8327 comments Matthew nodded here and there as she talked, mostly just listening to her and letting her tell her story. He knew her tale about women's rights to be true. He heard it often, among the peers in his class who thought the women had no place learning and earning jobs that were best left for the men. "I'm sorry to hear you're struggling with these things. In my opinion, you hire whoever can do the job better, regardless of gender, or age, or anything else." He said honestly, accepting a glass of water from one of the helpers who came down the train. "I'd like to visit America some time. It sounds so… daring." He pulled out a pen and wrote a number down quickly, handing her the slip. "This is the number you should telephone for the dorm room." he smiled gently at her.

Maria got up at the crack of dawn, as she did every morning, and after doing the washing and cleaning up the tent to be packed on one of the horses, she made breakfast, leaving out the steaming buns for Jen and Thomas, before she went to fetch the horses. When she rode back, in time to see Thomas mount the stallion that had been brought for him and Jen, she smiled lightly. "This is Blue River, named after the battle ship, and he's a good horse. Talk quietly to him, give him sugar cubes, and let him know you respect him, and he won't throw you no matter what comes in your way. He's been well trained, and is strong enough to carry you both and the food packs for miles." She smiled, keeping one hand on the leather reigns on her mustang, leading it in a tight circle around Blue, so that her own mount wouldn't bolt. For her horse was not as well trained as Blue, and would take off like a rocket if given the slightest chase. "We will ride near the end of the caravan, but not at the back. The back and the front are for our warriors, to protect the caravan, however, there will be more privacy at the back, as my family tends to clamour to go first." She smiled lightly, spinning her horse on a tight reign so she was walking out in front of them. "Just let Blue follow Molly, and he'll know what to do." She advised, scratching her mustang's neck. "Alright Molly. Light trot." The horse seemed to shiver in anticipation at the quicker speed, immediately transitioning into the happy gait. "We will ride until just past noon, when we will stop for food."

Ella nearly cried out in surprise and fear when a hand scooped up her own, as she and not heard Donavon approaching. However, she smiled, shaking her head as he kissed it, and she gave him a playful smile. "Flattery doesn't become you master Donavon. I was merely roaming the wonderful halls of your palace, and you happened to chance upon me." Her smile turned up more. "Could it be… that you were seeking after me?" She grinned at him then, letting the ladylikeness slip for a moment into childish glee. Oh she did enjoy the banter they tossed between them. It was always such fun. "Slept like a babe." She agreed, looping her arm through his as they turned to walk for the main doors. "Thank you, for your generous hospitality." She added, knowing that the queen didn't really like Donovan having girls to the palace overnight, because of how it looked to the press. And yet Donovan had accommodated her anyways.

McKensie (that-one-girl) | 5564 comments Brooklyn smiled softly at him as she took a champagne flute of water and sipped it with a certain grace that came from years of ballet and etiquette lessons. She took the paper and tucked it away as she dug for a picture of her near the statue of liberty "That is me and my twin sister at the lady liberty, isn't she marvelous? A gift as you probably know..." she passed him the photo and gave him the rest of the bag of chocolates "Here, I'll eat myself to a tizzy if I keep them." they were going to be entering the station soon and she honestly wished the journey could go longer.

Thomas nodded following her instructions, he pet the mane slowly as Blue trotted calmly after Molly. He smiled lightly at the horse "See that lady riding the pretty mustang you have your eye on...That's Maria...I fancy her I think, she is so different from Sada so I know I'm not just mirroring my feelings for her...she's something else entirely and I want to show her that I see her...what do you think? Do I have a chance?" he whispered to the horse since they other riders couldn't hear him thankfully. He frowned as it was close to 9:00 in the morning and they were entering a forest known for wolves...he swallowed watching closely until he heard the growls in the darkness of the trees. He saw one go towards Molly and he knew she would react poorly and Maria and Jen were on her. He quickly kicked his horse to a canter and pulled in front of Molly making both horses squeal and buck. He moved Maria and Jen away to the side as Molly came down again and again on his abdoman and legs, he cried out in agony and stabbed the wolf as he pulled out his dagger lying on the road panting in pain.

Donavon smiled softly to reassure her as he must have spooked her. He squeezed her arm lovingly and brushed his lips against her cheek and nudged his nose playfully "perhaps I was, is that a sin Lady Ella?" he smiled softly and shrugged "Mother knows that I would never take advantage of you, so she permitted it...as long as we don't stay in the same room alone for long we'll be fine." he took her outside to the garden near the veranda an elaborate beautiful breakfast was waiting for them. He pulled out her chair and wrapped his coat around her shoulders since it was a brisk morning. He poured them both some tea and smiled softly at her beautiful angelic face "You are a sight...you know that?"

Lara (gurlwhowrites) | 8327 comments Matthew looked at the image she showed him, and he shook his head in wonder. "Such a large creation! A marvellous feat of architecture and art together. My brother would be thrilled to see something like this. I'd love to go see it sometime." he said honestly. "Is it nice having a twin? Do you two get along?" he asked, accepting the chocolates from her with a polite nod and a thanks. He didn't like taking her candies, but he knew it would be rude to refuse, and besides, this was a gift he was actually thankful for. As the train tooted and whooshed to a stop, Matthew stood, reluctant to leave her. "It was very pleasant to meet you… maybe we could converse again soon?" he suggested, straightening his coat and picking up his luggage.

Maria knew of the wolves in the forest. She had seen them many times, and often, they did not bother the horses. But this mangy dog must have been starving, for it stepped right out into Molly's path, who bucked and threw both Maria and Jen. Maria wrapped her arms around the small girl, hugging her to herself and protecting her as Molly did as she was trained, and moved to stop on the offending creature. And then she saw Thomas go for the thing too. "No!" She cried. "No don't!" But it was too late. The horses, confused and scared, could not tell the wolf from Thomas, and Maria watched as hooves came down on him. She set Jen down and ran to Thomas, spreading her arms and calming Molly and Blue, immediately taking their reigns and looping them over a tree branch. She then went to Thomas to asses the damage. A horse could have broken a bone. "Does anything hurt?" She asked, worried, as she slid a hand under his head to help prop him up.

Ella smiled, leaning into his touch and gentle embrace. "Quite the contrary, Master Donavon, I think it makes you a saint." She said, smiling brightly. "Tis a shame we can't find time alone for long, though. Seems your mother takes it upon herself to always check up on us. Strange though… usually it's the woman's mother who's more worried." She said, "Have I done something to lose her approval?" She asked, raising an eyebrow, a soft smile on her features. And then she saw the veranda and she gasped, her whole face lighting up. "Oh Donavon! You outdid yourself! This is far too fancy for me, you shouldn't have!" However, her expression made it clear that she was thrilled that he did, and she kissed his cheek, sitting down and letting him pour the tea. "Of course I'm aware!" She lifted her chin higher and then laughed, shaking her head. "I'm an average woman, Donavon, you are just a lovesick man, and that makes me beautiful in your eyes." She said, sipping at the tea. It was just how she liked it.

McKensie (that-one-girl) | 5564 comments Brooklyn smiled softly and took his hand and wrote her number on it "I think it's more proper for a man to call a lady, then for me to ask for a number Matthew. I would very much like to see you again though..." She smiled softly at him as he left the train. She grabbed her coat and suitcase as she left going to the dorms, she knocked on her sisters room waiting patiently. Her sister was a professional dancer and they went there seperate ways. She smiled softly as she answered the door and then tears were streaming down her face as she hugged her sister just needing to be with someone that loved and accepted her.

Thomas was shaking blood coming out of his mouth from internal damage, he looked up at saw Maria cupping the back of his head "I see you..." He whispered, trying to make her understand that she wasn't the replacement of Sada. He was going in and out of consciousness and he kept seeing Sada in a white area and back to the forest. He hugged Sada tightly spirit to spirit "I missed you so much..." He didn't understand what was going on, he wasn't dying yet he could see his Sada.

Donavon smiled softly and nuzzled her neck kissing the crease gently and secretly before sitting by her and taking her gloved hand and pressing it to his face. "I don't see through rose colored lenses, I just know the truth...you are equisite and every man in the kingdom knows it...I love you, and it's very difficult to stay chaste around you. My mother just knows you shattered my heart and how difficult it was to get back on my feet...she doesn't want me to get depressed again..."

message 1612: by Lara (new)

Lara (gurlwhowrites) | 8327 comments Matthew chuckled, taking the slip and putting it in his pocket, knowing he would take her up on that, and call her lair. "Until we meet again." he said, scooping up her hand and kissing the back of it as he watched her leave, a soft smile on his face.
April heard the knock and immediately put down the cookies she had just pulled from her oven. "One second, I'll be right with you!" She called, dusting her flower covered hands on her apron as she ran to the door and opened it, gasping to see Brooklyn, and crying. She immediately hugged her sister, bringing her into the living room so they could talk in peace. "Well this is an unexpected surprise." She said softly, glad to see her. She knew something was wrong, but she wasn't going to ask. If Brooklyn wanted to talk about it, she knew she would tell her.

Maria's eyes widened, and almost immediately they filled with tears. No one had said something like that to her, ever. No one had seen her for her, and not just as a gypsy, or an attraction, or part of her family. "Hang in there…" She said frantically, trying to assess the damage. Even she knew it was not something the healers could fix. He was already coughing up blood, and soon it would be enough to drown him. She started to sob, holding his head in her lap. "I'm so sorry…."
Sada smiled, the tears filling her own eyes as she saw Thomas walk to her. She clung to him, hugging him tightly, unable to keep from crying softly as her shoulders shook against him. "I knew I'd see you again…" She whispered, tucking her face into his neck. It was good to see him again. "I knew… and I've been waiting for you for all these years…I've missed you…"

Ella felt the blush creeping up her neck and into her cheeks as Donovan spoke, and she looked down at her tea cup, her smile soft. "You are too kind, and quite good at flattery, master Donavon, do you use this to woo all the ladies that come calling?" She teased, running her fingers over his cheek and strong jaw, memorizing his face. He had grown older… but some parts of him had not changed, and she didn't think they ever would. The light in her eyes crew curious and merry at once. "So your mother doesn't trust me much?" a sad sort of expression entered her features then. "I am sorry to hear that you were depressed, Donovan. I hope there aren't any lingering bad feelings. I certainly never meant to hurt you in that manner. We were both just too young and naive…"

message 1613: by McKensie (new)

McKensie (that-one-girl) | 5564 comments Brooklyn sat on the couch distraught and anxious, she clung to her sister a perfect mirror to her own face. But they couldn't be more different if they tried. She was shaking the tears streaming down her porcelain face "father disowned me..." She lifted blouse showing the belt marks across her back "he said if I accept the doctorate and go work as a doctor...I was no daughter of his...he said if I tried to talk to you about it...he'd kill us both...April im so frightened! I don't know what to do...im homeless and he's cutting off my funds to the school though I earned them:..he won't stop until I do..."

The healers quickly went to his side ripping open his stained white tunic and cutting him open with a bone knife to stop the internal bleeding. It gushed out and Thomas gasped coughing and sputtering shaking from the shock. He gripped onto Maria's hand tightly trying to relieve her of the stress she felt.
Thomas held his late wife close never wanting to let her go "you havent changed a bit, still as beautiful as the day I met you..." He promised and kissed her forehead, he felt a tug keeping him in the real world yet still he could be here with his Sada "im not ready to die...Jenn can't grow up alone..."

Donavon removed her glove and kissed her fingers shaking his head "no bad feelings could enter my mind concerning you, we were far too young and we weren't ready...I wasn't ready to commit to you and care for you properly but now I am...I know I am, I love you Ella, I've loved you ever since we were simple children...and I tried to protect you from those rouges...I promised myself then that no matter what happens I will keep you safe..."

message 1614: by Lara (new)

Lara (gurlwhowrites) | 8327 comments April felt her heart ache for her sister, and she immediately wrapped her arms around her, drawing her close and just holding her, gripping her for strength and comfort, just as they used to do as little kids. "I'm so sorry. I had no idea he'd gotten this bad…" She shook her head, taking out a brush and pulling down her sister's elaborate knot, as she slowly brushed out her long hair, trying to be comforting. "I'll help the best I can, you know I will. I'll work more hours at my studio to help pay for your schooling." She offered, saying it in a manner that meant it was not up for negotiating. "But as for father… you know he's just this way because mother left him. Give him time. I think it hurts him to see you becoming something so daring, when mother's profession was the very reason that split them apart." She reminded, started to braid up her hair again, knowing how much she liked it played with. "Don't back down. Eventually his wounds will heal, and he'll be glad he has such a smart daughter like you." she promised, giving him a smile.

Maria was not one to faint at blood or uncomfortable things, so she didn't wince or look away, or cower while Thomas was being tended too, she merely held him tightly and watched, afraid for his life. "Hang on there, you're going to be ok. You're going to get better." She said, gripping his hand. "I've got you, I'm not going to let you go."
Sada cried into his shoulder for a good long while, her heart aching and aching some more as she held onto what she knew she'd have to let go again. "I know Thomas. I know you have to leave me again. It's ok. Eternity is a long time, and a few years I can wait, to spend that with you." She said, looking up and cupping his face with her hands. "I will see you again, you and our daughter both, but for now, know that I love you. And that… that if being with my sister will make you happy, then that would make me happy too." She said softly, looking up into his eyes, her own dark ones every bit sincere and sorrowful at once.

Ella smiled lightly, watching him kiss her hand. It was delightful, to be comfortable with him again, her closest friend, and her greatest ally. "And I was young and willful, and not ready to be tied to any man." She countered. "You weren't the only one at fault. But I am glad we were able to mend our rift. I know I've felt horribly guilty about the whole thing, often wondering what might happen if you ever were to forgive me and take me back." She admitted, raising her eyes to his then. "I suppose I got the chance to find out just that…" she shook her head. "You always have been my knight in shining armour."

McKensie (that-one-girl) | 5564 comments Brooklyn felt a calm wash over her as she always did around April, April could manipulate any mood and change it for the better, she felt love and peace being with her best friend and other half. It made her wonder why she didn't strive to see her more often, excuses always came up of course but she always felt better talking to her. As she brushed out her long dark hair she relaxed her eyes closing as she listened to her sister's nightingale voice reassuring her that everything would be fine. Only once did she open them looking back at her in shock when she said she would help pay "April you can't...I mean..." She growled frustrated that she couldn't argue. Even when they were young girls she could never argue with her twin "thank you..." She said finally and leaned back to lay close to her "I met a handsome gentleman on the train...I gave him my number, is it pathetic that I hope he calls?"

Thomas was lifted into the wagon after being mended and stitched, his wounds wrapped in clean bandages soaked in the herbal medication. He closed his eyes looking to be out of pain and peaceful, he never once let go of Maria's hand though holding it for his lifeline to not stay with Sada. He worried about his little girl, having her be traumatized by all this. She had seen soliders with gunshot wounds and other ailments but never her own father.
Thomas held his wife and love closet not wanting to be released from her, it was tearing him apart knowing that he cared for her sister, not the same however but it was strong and he knew she would be a good mother for Jemnifer "I'll never stop loving you...I cant, it's physically impossible for me. You are my soul mate...I just, I don't want to be alone and Maria is very much like you and Jen adores her...im starting to feel things...and I wish I wasn't but you said you didnt want me hurting, I don't when I'm around her..." He caressed her cheek "but eternity is something I will cherish with you..."

Donavon smiled and leaned in kissing her tebderly but with an amount of passion that made his ears turn red. He cupped the back of her neck lacing his fingers in her beautiful blonde hair and holding her closely kissing down her jaw and neck carefully and still respectively. He pulled back nudging his nose against hers his eyes focused only on her "you have always been my princess..." He promised and caressed her blushing cheek "I want to tell the public, I want everyone to know that we have been reunited for good...unless you'd rather keep it a secret as long as we know I don't mind either way..."

Lara (gurlwhowrites) | 8327 comments April patiently worked on weaving her sister's hair, until she had compiled a nice braid, after which she leaned back against the couch, just snuggling beside her sister like old times. "Don't mention it." She responded softly, with an amount of seriousness in her tone. And then her face broke into cheerful smiles. "A handsome gentleman? Oh aren't you lucky!" she exclaimed, squeezing her hand in happiness for her sister. "It is in no way pathetic, I assure you. I would be walking around back and forth in front of the phone if I was in your position." she insisted, her smile kind. "If he really is a gentleman, then I'm sure he'll call just as soon as he's able to talk with you." She assured.

Maria didn't' let go of Thomas, not as the cart started to roll, not at Jeniffer was lifted in to ride with her father. She just smiled weakly at the small girl as she stared at them both. "Is he alive?" she asked.
Maria nodded, beckoning her over. "He's alive and doing just fine." She promised, holding the child close as she tentatively touched her father.
"He's just unconscious right now, Jen. Are you alright?"
Jeniffer nodded vigorously, looking quite frightened. "I'm ok… just scared…"
Sada let out a soft strangled sob when he spoke of his love for her. It wasn't fair. It wasn't fair that they loved each other so deeply, and yet they had to be apart. Oh how she longed to be with him again, for the days when she wore golden dresses and danced with him on the planks of the ship. For the days spent painting the nursery together, and charting out their dreams to travel the world. She didn't want to give all that away, and certainly not to her sister. It was something that pained her more deeply than anything else. But she loved Thomas, and she spoke the truth when she said she wanted him to be happy. "It's ok, Thomas. It's ok…" she whispered, blinking away the tears. "I understand. And I allow it. I want you to be happy, and I don't want you alone. Jen needs a mother, and though it pains me that I can not be that for her, she still needs a mother. Love my sister, Thomas, and know that I'll be waiting each moment for the day I can be with you again." She said, the tears escaping and rolling down her cheeks.

Ella was half surprised, and half expecting the passion she found in Donavon's kiss, and somewhat to her own surprise, she found herself folding and opening up to it, relaxing as he kissed down her jaw and neck. And when he pulled away and spoke again, she was entirely regretful that he did, having not wanting the moment to end. "Of course." She whispered. "I don't mind if you announce it. They'll find out at some point anyways." She said reasonably, tipping her head and leaning it on her shoulder as she let out a quiet happy sigh. "I missed this… you know." She finally whispered. "I missed you."

McKensie (that-one-girl) | 5564 comments Brooklyn smiled softly back at her sister as she flushed, she thought about Matthew and found herself giggling like a young school girl "He goes to EASC, seems to be a brilliant man...somehow he knew my name, strange right?" she watched her sister playing with her long fingers "How is that male ballerina you have been seeing in the dressing room? Is he actually ever going to take you on a real date?" she asked worried about her sister being played. She was a beautiful girl and had many suitors, yes they were identical but men always were attracted to April she got the left overs.

Thomas held her close and sighed "One more dance before I have to go back?" he gently spun her and hummed their song, waltzing carefully and spinning and dipping her. He wanted to remember this, he wanted her to stop mourning and enjoy this time without tears. It was impossible for the both of them for him to leave but he wanted to feel in love again, young love that had no end or ultimatums.
Thomas slowly started to come to as Jennifer touched his hand, he groaned and slowly turned his head towards Maria "Jen..."

Donavon smiled and nuzzled her as she rested on his shoulder, he rubbed her back playing with her hair "I missed you so much..." he whispered and helped her up as the servants cleared the food "come...I want you to hear the song I wrote for you...it needs a duet partner, care to fill it in?"

Lara (gurlwhowrites) | 8327 comments April clasped her hands together, giggling. "Oh he already knows you!? That's wonderful! He probably likes you! That means someone probably mentioned you to him, you know… he could be interested in a relationship…." She elbowed her gently. Then she shook her head when she asked about her boyfriend. She was starting to think he really did only see her for the times when they made out. "I don't know…He hasn't yet... I might ask him about that later…" She said softly. She really didn't want to ask though. Because even if he was just playing her, she still liked him, and she didn't want their thing to end, whatever their thing was. She knew she was probably being foolish, and a hopeless romantic… but she wanted him to love her so badly….

Sada nodded, wiping her tears and placing her hands in his. She wouldn't let herself miss out on this chance, this chance to be with him for even a moment. So she leaned into him and let him lead them through their dance, and for a moment, she could forget that she was dead, she could pretend that they had a future together, like they had planned. And then his spirit dissolved in her arms as he was whisked back to his body, and she was left alone in the woods, her eyes shining with unshed tears.
Jeniffer squeaked in surprise and relief when her father spoke her name and she immediately flopped beside him, curling up and holding his hand tightly in her own. "Papa… You're not dead!" She was crying before she even knew it, and she tucked her small face against her father. She had never been so frightened in all her life.

Ella stood to let the maids clear up their table. It had been such a lovely breakfast, she was almost afraid to see the whole set up come down again. But she knew it would last as a beautiful memory in her mind forever after. "I'd love to hear it. And to play with you." She promised, excited at the prospect of sitting down at the piano with him again. She slid her hand into his own, unabashedly walking through the hallways of the palace again with him. She was used to ignoring the gossiping whispers of the staff by now, and this time, she really didn't mind all the coy smiles that appeared as they past. She knew most people were happy to see them together again.

McKensie (that-one-girl) | 5564 comments Brooklyn pulled out the yearbooks of the university and flipped the pages till she found his picture "This is him April, isn't he so handsome?" she swooned lightly and pressed the book to his chest and sighed "He says there is a dorm next to his that is open, I think I'm going to move in there so that I don't have to stay at your place...I gave him your number for him to call, I hope you don't mind?" she looked at the headshots of her sister "So what ballet are you in this week?"

Thomas held his little girl close to his chest and stroke her hair "I'm ok honey...I'm ok, don't cry baby...don't cry..." he looked over at Maria and gave a soft smile, she never looked so lovely to him before "Are you ok?..." he asked softly and caressed her cheek "I...was scared when that wolf..." he tried to explain but he was still in immense pain.

Donavon smiled knowingly at Ella and squeezed her hand leading her to his music room, it was a mess sheet music strewn everywhere and ink spots on the carpet. No one was allowed into that room except him. He had her sit on the piano bench and nuzzled her neck as he grabbed the sheet music and put it on the grand piano and started to play. It was romantic very Vivaldi with his own touch, it was soft and flowing like a babbling brook "Ok...your part is coming up, it's written below right here." he motioned with his head.

Lara (gurlwhowrites) | 8327 comments April was glad to think about something happy and light, like her sister's new interest, rather than her own brooding thoughts. For she was supposed to always be the light happy one. And for the most part she was. But when she struggled, she always struggled hard. "He is absolutely swoon worthy, Brook. You definitely have to take up that apartment offer." she insisted. Just at that moment, the phone rang, and her smile grew soft. "Good timing." She said, shoving her sister towards it. She needed a break to get back into her happy feelings again, and forget about Sam. "The nutcracker." She said simply, going into the kitchen for a snack to let her sister talk.
Matthew was waiting anxiously on the other line, hoping that she would pick up. He wasn't even sure what to say, so when the line came on, he started to stutter. "H-hi… is this Brooklyn?" he asked hesitantly.

Jeniffer hugged her father tightly, tucking her face against him as she tried to stop crying and be strong for him. "I'm sorry, Papa, I was scared…"
Maria smiled at Thomas, something inside her fluttering at the way he looked at her. It was so lovely and genuine, and for her and her alone. "I'm alright. I'm just fine, thanks to you." She promised, helping him lay back again. "And you need to get better… so please rest." She insisted. "You don't know how worried I was for you for a bit there. We weren't sure if you'd be coming back."

Ella loved the music room. It was so personal, and it was almost like a bit of Donavon's soul lived here. She could see his personality and character in every bit of the room, but no where was it stronger than at the seat of the piano as she sat down beside him and smiled at the well loved keys. When his music stirred from the piano, it seemed to wake the whole atmosphere, and Ella closed her eyes, a smile on her face as she just listened and drank it in. She only stirred when he warned her of her part, and she immediately looked it over, memorizing the simple tinkling few notes that she could play at the top. She listened to his part to wait for her cue, and then joined in, her slender fingers gliding over the notes as he had taught her, playing first what he had written for her, and then adding some things here and there to make it her own, her part singing to his, and then echoing and dancing around it.

McKensie (that-one-girl) | 5564 comments Brooklyn looked at the ringing phone with a look of fear, hope and trepidation. She shakily picked it up, it slipped from her fingers and she quickly picked it up "h-hi hi! Sorry the phone slipped from my...oh i mean yes this is Brooklyn!" She hastily added and sank on the couch her face crimson as she bit on the inside of her lip wishing she could start the conversation over "I was hoping you would call..." Oh! Very smooth, probably seem like you were waiting by the phone for him to call, you have a doctorate stop acting like a pathetic lovesick fool! She could hear her sister softly laughing in the kitchen and took deep breaths "sorry...im not very good at this, would you like to go have a drink tonight?...or whenever." She added trying to sound nonchalant, oh how she wished the phone would just burst into flames...

Thomas smiled at his little girl and dried those shining tears in her beautiful brown eyes "it's ok to be afraid Jenn...im not going anywhere, I promise..." He pushed her curly brown hair back and caressed her cheek "go get some sleep honey...im not going anywhere..." He watched her go over to the pile of furs and cuddle up. Taking Maria's hand he guided her to his side and rested his forehead against hers just taking in her earthy scent and warmth "I chose to stay with you..." He whispered closing his eyes and lacing his fingers with hers his thumb caressing the back of her hand.

Donavon's eyes closed as she played her part, they flowed together so perfectly. Different, each with a voice but if they were the same there would be no passion no desire. He reached over her to play the notes, their arms and fingers tangled in their sexy ballad. He smiled softly to the side at her knowing she was getting engulfed in the music, he only stopped as his father entered the room he lifted his fingers abruptly and stood respectively "sir...is everything alright?" He had a fearful respect for the King and he never saw him casually so he knew it was important.

Lara (gurlwhowrites) | 8327 comments Matthew's nervousness fell away when he heard Brooklyn's voice on the other end of the line, and realized that she was just as nervous as he was. He smiled softly, leaning against the wall as she stuttered over her words. He didn't laugh, he thought it was cute. Nodding slowly, he let her finish, and gain a little bit of control again, before he answered. "I'd love to go for a drink. I'll pick you up at seven? Where do you want me to come?" he asked, trying to figure out what address he should come pick her up from, without sounding creepy and stalker ish.

Maria watched as the small girl changed from stressed to relieved in a manner of a few moments, and she wondered at how children were so trusting. She wished she was the same. However, his words shocked her. He had chosen her? He had chosen her over his wife? But why? She hardly knew him. Yes, she was flattered, beyond flattered, but part of her felt trepidation. Surely someone couldn't fall in love with another so quickly. "Why… why do you… find attraction to me, Thomas?" She asked softly, her brow wrinkled with worry. By nature, gypsies were an untrusting folk, and Maria wasn't one to give her heart away quickly, not when she didn't know the intentions of the other person.

Ella didn't open her eyes after they closed. She just let herself drift off and get lost in the music, feeling her soul weave and twine through Donavon's as their emotions danced through the music. And then it stopped and she startled, spinning around to find the king standing grim faced in the doorway. No one came in this room but Donavon, so she knew it must be urgent. She looked down and curtsied politely, but the king just held up a hand.
"Donovan. I must speak with you… privately." he said, striding out into the hallway and closing the door of the music room after them. "First. Rebels have attacked the outskirts of our borders, countryless, they are targeting any place with a monarchy. They call themselves the freedom fighters. Spirits are growing low, and too many people are joining them. And second. Your mother is very concerned about you and Mrs. Winter being back together again." He said honestly, looking quite awkward at having to discuss the subject. "Are you quite sure about your decisions?"

McKensie (that-one-girl) | 5564 comments Brooklyn flushed from her neck up, with such pale skin it was near impossible to hide her feelings. She softly smiled biting her thumbnail and nodding "sounds perfect then, im staying at my sister's place for now...it's above the ballet studio B6...I'll be waiting." She said softly glad she got control of her vocal diarrhea. She hung up the phone and laughed spinning in a circle and smiling brightly "I have a date!" She called out to whoever would listen to her. Problem was, what on earth was she going to wear? She didn't own anything lovely or feminine "April darling, I need serious fashion advice..." She tugged her to her suitcase biting her lip "I have suspender trousers and the dress from gram's funeral...and this dress but he's already seen me in this."

Thomas tried to not show emotion on his face, nothing was more humiliating then loving someone that wasn't sure of his affection "you...ever since I met you with Sad'a, Ive been impressed with your fierceness the calculating look in your eye...the color of your eyes like a clear blue ocean...after a storm, your connection with the earth and your love for all of creation's creatures...how much you love and care for your family, my Jennifer especially. She never has smiled so much, you are the only woman figure she has ever known..." He swallowrd trying to think of more "I love your fluid graceful motions as if you are dancing...everything you do had passion and value...I love the way that you aren't falling for me, that you want answers and proof...I wouldnt expect less. I am willing to wait however long...point is, I chose you...and my daughter."

Donavon ran a hand through his hair, his happiness dwindling away as his father talked of his royal duties, even more so that his mother refuses to accept his love and devotion to Ella "grand mama thought that mother marrying you was an awful plan as well...you fought for your marriage and if that is what I must do then fine. But don't you dare disrespect her, I was a foolish boy then and now I'm a man. I will defend and protect her to my dying breath...and if that still isn't enough then I'll forsake my Royal title give it to a distant cousin and leave...for there is no greater happiness then being with her."

Lara (gurlwhowrites) | 8327 comments Matthew beamed, scribbling down her address, and going to get ready almost the moment they ended the call. He was getting together with a pretty girl! That never happened! Ever! Maybe he'd get lucky and they'd see each other more often… maybe he'd gained a friend… or more than a friend… Going to have a shower and get cleaned up, he prepared for meeting with Brooklyn.
April looked up, putting on a smile. She was truly thrilled for her sister, but her clothes simply would not do. Not for a date. She tsked and pulled her sister over to her own closet. "Nonesense. You're borrowing one of my dresses until you can find some time to go shopping." She insisted seriously. Pulling out a pale coloured dress, she held it up. "This would look lovely on you…" She offered. "Oh.. and I like this one too…" She held up another. "What do you think?" She spun her around to face the mirror. It was a full length one that she practiced dancing in front of, and it had been rather expensive.

Maria closed her eyes, breathing deeply and seeming to just drink in the words that Thomas spoke, as if she could swallow them into her being and treasure them in her heart forever after. He chose her. He loved her. He knew her better than she thought he would. And the doors to Maria's heart cracked open as the warmth spilled forth. She relaxed, knowing then that she could trust this man, trust his intentions, and his heart, and give him her own. She moved closer and kissed him, not a light kiss, and not a sloppy heated one either. A passionate kiss that burned with the emotions she felt. When she pulled away, her expression was serious. "I don't believe in falling for people, Thomas. I believe relationships are based on real things, like experiences together. And I believe once you've loved someone, you never stop loving them. Which is why gypsies are hesitant to give away their hearts. I thought my sister rash for giving her heart to you, that first time when she thought you left for good." She said softly. "But she wasn't. And I know you still love her. I see it, but it is why I trust you, a heart that doesn't stop loving is a heart I can trust, and therefore… I've given you mine."

James nodded slowly, remembering his own love angst like it was yesterday. "I know, son. And I've told you that I support you choosing a woman to wed to." he promised. There was no one who understood his boy's situation more than he did. However, he also knew very well how much Lydia worried about their eldest. And she had reason to. James didn't know Ella. But he did know how poorly Donovan had fared when they split years ago. "I am all for whomever you choose." he said honestly. "But your mother worries for your sake. No one is judging Ella. We just want you to look at things reasonably and be cautious." he said gently, trying to remind Donovan that they weren't out to get him or break him and Ella up, they, as parents, were just worried for him. "There's no need to drop your title. You'll make a fine king in a few years. But just because you've grown into an honourable young man, doesn't mean that Ella's grown up too. All we ask is that you be careful, and think about where you both are at. Have you even considered whether or not Ella would handle being a queen well?" he asked, for he knew first hand how stressful jumping into the royal lifestyle could be. Some people were naturally good at it. Others could break under all the pressure, demands, and the constant publicity.

McKensie (that-one-girl) | 5564 comments Brooklyn blinked at the expensive fabrics, and fingered them feeling like they were going to fall apart like spider silk and dew. She held up the pale one and slowly changed into it, she smoothed the elegant collar and the tiny cinched waist turning in front of the mirror "Isn't this too elegant for a drink? I mean...it's lovely and I'm grateful but...I just feel, I don't know...I'll be noticed in this dress." she wasn't used to the spotlight she let April take it all of their lives working in the background becoming a doctor and living in silent fame. She slipped her ivory oxfords on and felt more comfortable.

Thomas kissed her back with the same yearning passion, he cupped the back of her neck holding it as long as he could. He pulled back and kissed her forehead, nose and back to her lips "My love is like a candle, I can give to others but it never takes away from my own...I love you and I love my daughter, that is what my focus is going to be on until we die...I will care for you any way that you need, I know that you are independent and I respect that...but how I show my love is supporting and serving...we'll come with a natural balance eventually but...I think you should know this now..." he pressed his lips to her hair and sighed, he was still exhausted and in immense pain but he was alive and it was hard to rest when so many things were happening.

Donavon paused, his face reddening with shame. His parents weren't out to destroy his love they were just looking out for him and seeing the reality "Thank you...I don't know, I suppose I will take her on interviews and show the responsibilities of the royal family. She grew up a duchess though, she knows of paparazzi and publicity...but I will see if this is something she can endure. I love her and I know she loves me, I know mom wants what's best for me...Ella brings out the best in me and makes me stronger more passionate...a better prince."

Lara (gurlwhowrites) | 8327 comments April smiled as she looked at her sister's reflection in the mirror. Yes, they were twins, but there was still so much that was different between them that the dress looked different on Brooklyn than it did on her. "You look beautiful, Brook." She said gently, holding out a small pair of diamond earrings. "You want him to notice you, don't you?" She reminded, her smile soft. "And he'll definitely remember you, when you're wearing that." Helping her sister with her coat, she nodded towards the door as there came a knock upon it. "That'll be him." She smiled at her sister, almost longingly, as she wished to trade places with her sometimes. "Good luck." She encouraged.

Maria closed her eyes, focusing on how his lips felt on her forehead, and then her nose, and her lips again, and then her hair. She understood what he meant about the way he showed love, and she could respect that. They could become a good team as time passed, and she sat up, grabbing the furs and blankets and cushioning them around Thomas. "I appreciate you being honest and open with me." she said seriously, snuggling up against him and tugging the remaining quilt over them both. "And I think that now we should both rest. It's been a long day, Jeniffer is asleep, and you need your rest as well." She insisted, twining her fingers with his under the covers.

James nodded, glad that his son saw the reason in this. He didn't want Ella to be pulled into something that would end up being too much for her, however, he didn't know Ella, so he trusted Donavon to handle this appropriately. "That sounds like a good course of action." he agreed, nodding. "Your mother and I are always here to help, should you need it." He backed up a bit then, clasping his hands behind his back. "Ella's parents called to say they would be in today to check on Abby and Ella. They said they would stay for lunch." he smiled cordially, but that message clearly meant 'make sure Ella is here when her parents come for lunch.' The king nodded at Donavon once again before turning and walking back down the hall. He was proud of his son, really, and how much he had grown. But that didn't make him perfect. No one was, after all.

McKensie (that-one-girl) | 5564 comments Brooklyn felt rushed and flustered as she was wearing earrings for the first time and pushed to the door. Her heart was racing rapidly as she fumbled thd door open and smiled softly at the charming man at her doorstep "Matthew! It's wonderful to see you again, this is my twin sister April. April this is the charming man I met on the train from Ireland." She introduced and smiled grabbing her bag "shall we?" It was miraculous she managed to get through all of that without fumbling over her words and making a fool of herself. She saw a certain knifing in her sister's eyes and wondered why, she always had men at her door stoop and she was far more popular than Brook.

Thomas slept snuggled up to his Maria, he woke the next day to the soft calls of the morning doves and nuzzled his face in her long gorgeous hair. He smiled seeing Jennifer sloppily put breakfast together for them. He slowly sat up finding it less painful then he expected and kissed her cheek "hi little one, what are you doing up so early in the day?" He pushed her hair back and smiled softly, this was his life the reason he kept going his beautiful angelic little girl. He smiled as Maria seemed to be sleeping in that morning, he was glad she would be getting the good rest she deserved.

Donavon let out the breath he was holding and sighed running a hand through his hair going back to the music room. He smiled as he saw his love brighten up when he approached "no need to be alarmed darling...just father giving news of a rebellion but he should be taking care of it..,I have a question for you though...if we were to be married, how does the title of Queen feel for you? I don't want to pressure you or place you in a position that forces you to take the title. I know my heart wants to make you my wife but I need to know your feelings on it."

Lara (gurlwhowrites) | 8327 comments Matthew's face broke into a smile when he saw Brooklyn, and the wonder was evident in his eyes. He bowed respectfully to April, dipping his hat. "Pleasure to meet you. Thank you for letting me borrow your sister for the evening." he took Brooklyn's arm on his own and waved to her sister, leading Brooklyn down to the carriage and opening the door for her. "You look quite dashing in that dress, Miss. Brooklyn." he complimented as he climbed into the carriage and nodded to the driver who started the vehicle rolling through the streets of London. "Do you mind very much that we aren't going to a pub?" he asked, looking over at her. She was a vision.

April watched her sister go, smiling all the while, before she closed the door and slumped against it, sinking down to the floor. She just stared at the air, feeling miserable. Her lovely sister was brilliant and making headway in the world, attracting smart men, and going on dates. And here she was simply a trinket to look at, attractive only to men because she was pretty, and her poor lovesick heart let them do what they wished with her, in hopes that one day, the love might be real.

Jeniffer had been helped by one of the other gyspy children, in gathering wild potatoes and carrots from the fields and forests nearby. One gypsie had been lucky enough to discover a nearby stream filled with freshwater shrimp, and soon Jeniffer had learned how to make a bubbling shrimp stew. She stirred it happily, watching as the potatoes and cream made it grow thick. "High Daddy!" She said, walking from her pot to go give him a kiss. "I made breakfast!" She said proudly. She walked back to her pot and plopped down beside it, watching it and stirring occasionally, not phased by the fact that the cauldron was big enough to fit her inside. She tasted every couple of minutes, and then nodded in satisfaction, dipping in the ladle an spooning out a bowlful which she brought back over to her father, putting the wooden bowl and spoon into his hands. "Careful… it's very hot." She insisted.

Ella looked up when Donavon returned, and she was relieved to see him still in one piece. She had been worried that something horrible had happened, for the king to come visit himself. However, Donavon still looked worried, and when he asked his question, she realized why. She stood from the piano bench, letting her eyes run around the music room as she thought. Queen. It was a lovely title. But she knew it had it's repercussions. It meant no peace, no breaks. No time off. But it also meant a life with Donavon, a life where they could grow old together, their children never wanting for anything. Schooled by the best in the land, preened to one day take their place. Nothing made her happier than hearing that Donavon wished to take her as his wife. "I can't lie and say that Queen isn't a daunting title at all. For it is. However. I believe I am strong enough to take it upon myself." She said, letting her eyes wander back to his again. "I suppose I wouldn't really know for sure until I actually was queen. But I do think I could manage it, if I had you by my side." She said, a smile forming on her lips.

McKensie (that-one-girl) | 5564 comments Brook smiled softly, her face flushed in joy. He noticed her! He liked the dress, he was being such a kind gentleman she felt like she was beautiful and lovely. Adjectives she would never use to describe herself before this moment. She nodded eagerly "wherever you want im fine with! I never go out so it'll be a new experiance for me either way...im just glad to be in your company tonight. Did you get unpacked and settled in your apartment alright? You never told me the reason you went to Ireland...care to share? Though it's really none of my business..." There she goes again! Never stop talking, girls should be docile and let the men speak!

Topher, also known as Christopher was the stage hand for the nutcracker he would always watch her from the rafters and be in awe at not only her beauty but her passion the light in her eyes and the soft shy smile she gave when bowing at the end. She was incredibly talented and was so modest about it. He was too bashful to actually say something, why would she be interested in a stagehand? He wrote her a note slipping it under her dressing room door. Your beauty is as fair as your kindness and charity. It is a gift to watch you dance and more so to see you with the young girls after the performance. They look up to you and so do I, don't tarnish your value on men that don't deserve a single smile. Your admirerer.

Thomas watched astonished at how passionate she was about the food, as she watched closely and tended with love to the pot and served it with careful precision "thank you my beautiful daughter...I will be careful." He promised and sniffed the fumes his stomach growling in response "smells wonderful! Do you need any assistance?" Of course he was worried about her being near the fire and getting burnt but he didn't want to stifle the joy she had on her face as she prepared this meal. He dipped the bread in the broth and munched happily "wonderful my little chef! Maria would be proud!"

Donavon found himself on one knee as he smiled softly at her "then be my queen, be my wife. This must stay secret between our hearts but take my ring when my family and the public is ready I will do a more official fancy proposal...but this is from my soul my heart I love you, I can't imagine life without you by my side you complete me and my music...dear Ella Jane Deveriux Duchess of Kent...will you marry me?"

Lara (gurlwhowrites) | 8327 comments Matthew's smile was soft, but pleased all the same. She was far too beautiful a girl to just hang around a pub, and he had a nice restaurant he wanted to take her to. He didn't mind at all that she spoke often. It made conversation interesting. "I grew up in Ireland, and my brother still lives there." he said honestly, shrugging a little. "He wasn't faring very well, but he's doing much better now, and he was introducing me to his girl." he said honestly, smiling over at her. "So it was a bit of a family reunion, I suppose." the carriage rolled to a stop and he hopped out, offering her his hand to help her out of the carriage. They were parked in front of one of the most charming old buildings in London, and inside, was a well lit restaurant, on the more expensive side of things, but a charming and quaint place none the less. "Shall we go in?" He asked, holding out his arm for her to escort her inside.

April was never one to mope any longer than absolutely necessary, and so minutes later she got up and composed herself, telling herself again that life was good and there was no reason to dwell on her troubles. Grabbing her bag from the studio, she wrote a note to her sister, saying where she was, and hailed a carriage down to take her to the theatre. She changed into her simple dance uniform, thin stretchy pants, a torso suit over top, and a simple gauzy skirt to finish it off. She tied on her dance shoes and tied up her hair, dusting chalk over her hands before she nodded in satisfaction. Just as she moved to leave her dressing room and go practice, she noticed a note on the floor. Scooping it up carefully, she read it over and found her heart catching, stuttering, and then pounding stronger. Someone… whatever kind soul had written this note, had somehow seen value in her. And that was enough to put a smile on her face as she tucked the note carefully into her bag and went out onto the stage to practice. She was alone, and only had the simple pale stage light to shine behind her, but she let herself get lost in her movements, practicing and releasing her soul into the dance all at once.

Jeniffer watched in rapt attention as her father tried out what she had made, as she was nervous that he wouldn't like it. However, when he smiled and complimented her food, she clasped her hands and spun, grinning. "I had help…" She said bashfully. Maria blinked sleepily from the makeshift bed in the back of the cart, and her smile immediately brightened her features. "Whatever you have cooked up, Jeniffer, smells amazing." She rose and stretched like a cat, sliding off the cart to go inspect the food. Again, Jeniffer waited nervously, and again, she broke out into a huge grin when Maria nodded her satisfaction. "You like it?"
Maria kissed the little girl's head in promise. "I love it, darling. You're becoming a regular gypsy." Jeniffer whooped and ran around the camp to go find the young gypsy that had helped her and celebrate.

Ella's breath caught when Donavon suddenly sank down onto his knee, and part of her was suddenly very frightened at what this meant. And another part of her was rejoicing. Her heart beat hard against the bars of her ribcage as he presumed to speak the most beautiful set of words she thought she had ever heard. She found tears in her eyes before she even knew why they were there, and she nodded, and nodded again, clasping a hand over her mouth to conceal the happy sob that threatened to escape her. Unable to stand any longer, and certainly not under the confounded confines of a dress and corset, she knelt by Donavon and threw her arms around him, not caring that someone might come in and see her a mess. She was just too happy to do anything but enjoy the moment.

McKensie (that-one-girl) | 5564 comments Brooklyn was relieved that he didn't seem to mind her constant chatter, he was so pleasant to converse with. She wasn't intimidated or flabbergasted by him, he was kind and he seemed to listen to her like a friend. She didn't have many true friends so it was wonderful to create another "I am very relieved that your brother is doing better, is it just the two of you left?" She asked softly and took his hand exiting the carriage and looking im awe at the equisite craftsmanship and soft ambient light. It was obviously a fancy place and she smiled softly at him "it's simply beautiful, thank you for bringing me." She squeezed his arm and smiled as they were led to an outside table, the night was perfect a soft breeze gently blew by. Fairy lights were strung throughout the rafters and over lite gauzy drapings she say down as he pulled out her chair and smiled softly her cheeks showing the admiration she had for him.

Topher was pleased to see her come back, he moved the spotlight over to her keeping her captured in the light as she spun and leapt across the stage making the large space very small the only focal point was her small figure her smile and the soft pink skirt. He coukdnt help but stare his heart thudding against his ragged button up and vest, he loved her. He never said a word to her, how could he? She was a goddess and him a mere peasant gazing from afar. He was leaning on the large spotlight the weight was too much as it dropped the light going spastic till he corrected it. He called out a hasty apology glad that she couldn't see him.

Thomas sat on the mossy log with the other gypsy folks, he felt awkward and unwanted from the tight knit family. He was a stranger that took one of their own and now had the gall to come with, eating their food and sleeping in the cart. He sipped the stew his stitches prickling with each swallow, he bowed his head trying to not be a burden and bother. His face lit up as Maria scooted off the cart and joined him, Jennifer seemed pleased as well. Watching Maria praise and kiss his girl made his heart beat quicker, he was infactuated by this gypsy queen "how did you sleep darling?"

Donavon smiled watching her reaction, he hugged her tightly holding onto her blonde locks of hair and kissing her tears away. Rubbing her back he pulled back and pulled the Royal seal from his finger and slipped it onto her finger and kissed her hand "for now this is my promise to you..." He placed it on the finger next to the ring finger to keep suspicion down and keep their engagement a secret. He knew that his parents wouldn't appreciate this and the public would be disapproving but he couldn't care less he was in love and ever since he was a young boy he knew she would be his wife.

Lara (gurlwhowrites) | 8327 comments Matthew smiled cordially at her kind comment about his brother and he nodded. "Mother died in childbirth, and father was never a man me or my brother felt close to." he admitted, shrugging lightly as they were shown to a nice table on the patio outside. It was an absolutely gorgeous night, and he thanked the fates that it had worked out so well for their evening together. He helped pull out a chair for her and sat as the waiter handed them each menus before bowing and leaving them to themselves. Matthew smiled at her from over his menu. "No problem at all. The pleasure is certainly all mine." He insisted. "It's not everyday that I get to visit nice restaurants with a lovely woman accompanying me." he said honestly. "But tell me more about yourself. I didn't realize you had a twin. That is very neat. Do you two enjoy being similar?" He asked, and then seemed to correct himself. "Or are you really all that similar at all? I'm sorry if I've said anything offensive. I must say, I am curious though. I have never known a set of twins before." He admitted, smiling gently at her as he picked up his water glass a took a sip, waiting for her answer.

April had been so lost in her dance, gracefully leaping across the stage, feeling free and alive, and able to do whatever she wished, that when the lights suddenly went off the stage, she lost her concentration and was suddenly flailing, no longer on wings. She landed awkwardly on her foot and cried out as it buckled, sending her weight tumbling to the stage. For a moment she just stared at the floorboards in front of her face, aware of a searing pain in her ankle... Oh God please don't let it be broken… she prayed. Maybe it was just a sprain… maybe it would get better before the show. Her elbows were sore from where they had smacked into the stage, but what hurt the most out of everything, was her pride. The one thing she was good at, and she had tripped and fallen when the lights went dark. She could dance in the dark, she could dance blind. But it was just so sudden and unexpected that she had stumbled. And she knew there was someone out there in the darkness that she couldn't see, who had watched the whole thing. A male, by the sound of his voice. How perfect. How absolutely fan flipping tactic. She had made a fool of herself in front of another male, whoever he may be, but the whole point was that somehow, that note had been wrong. She wasn't anything good. She was stumbling around through the world, not sure how to navigate it, who to trust or what to do. And the one thing she was good at, she had just ruined. Forcing herself to stand up quickly and try to maintain some of her wounded dignity, she limped towards the stairs. "It's fine. Don't worry!" She called hastily. "Happens all the time. Stupid lights." she muttered, limping down off the stage and back towards her dressing room. Each step was agony, but she had to get away before the tears came. No one, ever had ever ever seen April cry, and that wasn't going to start now. However, she was dangerously close. A dancer who couldn't walk? She felt like a bird with clipped wings.

Maria watched the sweet young girl run off to play before she turned to the sound of her new love's voice. Her smile was faint, and waning quickly as she noticed how alone he was. He was sitting away from everyone else at the fire, and he clearly looked awkward and out of place. Making a point to smile brighter again, she strode over to him and sat down. "I slept well. Thank you. Your daughter is a miraculous learner. Astounding, really." She spoke, smiling encouragingly. A young man sidled closer to Maria then, giving a friendly smile to Thomas and her before speaking in hushed tones to Maria in their native language. "What are you doing?" he hissed. "Do you not remember how your sister was taken from us? Do you not remember that she now rests in the stars? Would you take her lover, the man who did this for your own?"
Maria was equally parts enraged and ashamed all at once, because she knew Thomas could understand their language. "Hush, Kalile. My life is not the business of yours." She hissed back.
The boy shrugged, moving back a little bit. "I'm just letting you know. Ma and Babi are not pleased. Nor are the elders. He murdered one of ours, Maria, with that child of his. She is innocent only because of her age." He smiled tauntingly, much like a younger brother might do. "And you know that her innocence will only last until she has grown older."

Ella looked down at her hand, at the elegant ring that he always wore that he was now slipping onto her finger. It wasn't an engagement ring, and it wasn't on her ring finger, but some how, it seemed even more lovely than any diamond could ever be. She looked up at him, not even sure what to say. So much emotion was bubbling through her, threatening to pour out either in joyous song, or hopelessly happy sobbing. She managed a smile though, her eyes shining with love as she leaned forewords and pressed her lips against his in a brief, longing kiss. She leaned her forehead on his shoulder then, relaxing. "I love you." She whispered, not able to put her emotions to words any other way than that. "I love you, Donavon."

McKensie (that-one-girl) | 5564 comments Brooklyn smiled thanking the waiter, she glanced at the menu till he spoke. Looking up she smiled at him and laughed softly "no offensive at all Monsieur, April is a prima ballerina. She is very famous and has even performed for the Royal family...she always has known her passion even as a young girl and I look up to her greatly...I always felt invisible near her..." She had never admitted that before to anyone and bit her lip sipping the white wine presented to them. She cleared her throat and smiled "tell me more about yourself, you know so much about me...I want to know about Matthew, the handsome man I met on the train...that im so fortunate to have dinner with."

Topher blanched his stomach squeezed painfully as he heard the crack and the cry of pain. She was injured! He heard her speak to him and usually that would fill him with joy but he heard the panic, fear and pain in each word. He quickly climbed down the ladder and grabbed the first aid kit running to the dressing room. He opened the door immediately and led her to the plush couch and helped her remove the tight ballerina shoe from her black and blue ankle. He looked at her face it seemed angry and ashamed not looking at him at all "I can get you some ice m'lady...please rest I fear it may be broken..." He said softly and pulled out cloth bandages and medication to help her.

Thomas felt shame rise on his cheeks, red and flushed. He ducked his head low trying to pretend that he didn't understand, but the words were true and hurtful he didnt belong and he had no right going to Maria and falling for her. He watched his daughter play and felt tight in the chest. At least accept her...he begged in his mind never wanting her to feel isolated or abandoned. He quickly rose from the log and went to the stream to clean up his dish and stacking them properly as he saw Maria do and went back to the cart putting his head in his hands im deep thought.

Lara (gurlwhowrites) | 8327 comments Matthew listened in rapt attention as she spoke of her sister. They sounded like night and day. Passion, and dreams. Light and dark. And yet, they looked so similar. He shook his head, wondering how this brilliant woman could ever feel outshines by a dancer. "You are more beautiful than the stars, Brooklyn. And a personality to match. Don't downplay yourself just because you have a sister who is passionate about something as well." he insisted, taking another sip of his drink. "To be quite honest, I feel outshined by the both of you. A talented artist, and one of the first women to become a doctor." he shook his head. "Many men have become business professionals and architects, I'm just joining the masses. You, on the other hand, are standing out, making a difference." he shook his head. "But if you really want to know about boring old me… well… I like precision, and careful planning. I'm a stickler for details, but it means I notice the delicate things in life. I like having occasional lazy days, and nothing is more exciting than finding something that was lost or forgotten… secrets, you see." he said honestly, smiling as the waiter came back to leave warm buttered bread on their table.

He was following her. Oh gosh, he was following her. Whoever it was. And with her wounded ankle, she could hardly go faster than a hobble. Even if whoever this stranger was had further to travel, he was gaining fast, and April felt the panic rise as she tried to pick up speed, tried to retreat into the dressing room, but she was shaking at this point, and couldn't get the lock clicked in time. The mystery man walked into her dressing room then, clearly worried. She had seen him before, briefly, here and there. He was maintenance for the show. That didn't make this whole situation any less embarrassing or frustrating. She kept shaking her head, insisting that she was fine as he lead her to the couch but he wouldn't listen. She didn't want help! Could he not see that? She wanted him out before the tears came! She wanted to be independent and held together like her sister! Not a sobbing lovesick pathetic mess. And the pain started to grow to be too much and she feebly pulled her foot away, crying out softly as pain shot up her leg. But she ignored it, tucking her knees to herself. "I'm fine!" She insisted again, her voice cracking. "I'm just fine! I can take care of myself! I'm independent and don't need anyone to help me!" She said, trying to convince herself of the words, but even as she said them, she knew how untrue they were and finally the tears came and she broke down crying, hiding her face in her hands. "Just go!" She sobbed brokenly, hating that there was someone here, someone here to witness just how broken she was.

Maria turned back to go apologize to Thomas for what her cousin had said, and found him gone from the fire. Panicking and thinking he had just gone and left due to some stupid words, she frantically started a search, finding his clean bowls packed away. She found him in the cart, and immediately her heart squeezed in guilt. Not coming any closer, in case he wanted space, she chewed on her lip. "Thomas, you must ignore the ignorant words of my younger cousin. He doesn't know of what he speaks." She insisted quietly. "Yes, my people are hesitant to accept you, but that will go away with time." She assured. "They will see what a good man you are, like I have." she assured gently, hoping he understood. He was welcome here, and she would do everything to make sure it was so. She didn't want to see this look of pain on his face ever again.

Ella stood slowly, with his help, and a smile lit up on her features. Her parents were coming to visit the palace. She was glad to get the chance to see them again, even if they probably would have questions about what had happened with Edward. She couldn't tell them about Donavon and her engagement yet, but she could tell them that they were courting. And hopefully that would keep them pleased. She curtsied politely to the queen when they entered the dining room, to which the queen nodded back. "Yes, I remember Ella." She said, smiling cordially, before taking her son's hand and squeezing it. "I am doing well, thank you for inquiring, and yourself? I heard you playing again, its lovely to hear that piano being used." She said, as everyone was seated. "I believe our guests shall be arriving any moment now."

McKensie (that-one-girl) | 5564 comments Brooklyn smiled softly and perched her head on her hand listening him to him intently she flushed at his compliments and shook her head at his dismissal of his greatness "an architect is a wonderful position Matthew! You use science and art together to create incredible buildings, places of worship and love...shelter, it is a human need as much as healthcare is but you create art and patterns instead of lean to or shack." She praised and buttered the bread taking a bite and smiling at the warmth going down her throat "delicious..." She smiled at him describing himself "likes, dislikes? I like your personality dialysis but I want something to grasp and relate to. Good, animal, hobbies? Give me something please."

Topher hated that she was so distressed, he just wanted to help and ease the pain but he felt hated and intruder. She didn't want him there, he should have respected that but not that day. He took her hand and squeezed it gently "just let me wrap it up with some ice and then I'll leave you alone...I promise..." He whispered calmly and moved her foot slowly and carefully out, he rubbed some medicinal calming cream over the bruise and slowly wrapped it up being careful not to pull it too tightly. He placed the ice pack over it and stood moving away from her as he promised "I called a doctor...he should be arriving shortly...you might want to call someone to take you home..."

Thomas looked up as she came in, he shook his head trying to look stoic and tough the man she loved "no need, i know what he speaks is truer...I just worry for Jenn I don't want her isolated or abandoned...she's made friends and is happy. Because she is my daughter she is seen as different and I don't want that, judge me all they want but not Jen and certainly not you...I don't want you in trouble Maria...I love enough to leave if things get worse..."

Lara (gurlwhowrites) | 8327 comments Matthew smiled lightly when she praised him, as he wasn't one to turn away a compliment, but still. He felt she was much more accomplished in the world than he was. "Thank you, you certainly know how to make me feel better." he said, dipping his head. He took another sip of the wine before setting his glass on the table and picking up a piece of bread, munching on it and savouring the flavour. He laughed then, amused. "Not enough of a description for you? I thought I just told my soul to you." he teased, his smile light. "I like rainy days, I like sunny days too. I like music and poetry, warm bread, and dogs. I like the colour red, and foggy mornings. I like long walks and deep conversations. I like the spicy smell of apples at Christmas, and I love pie. Any sort of pie, actually. I don't like peas. I don't like chalk scratching on school chalkboards. I hate seeing people dump something where it doesn't belong. I don't like people who think too highly of themselves, and I especially don't like any sort of cold medicine at all. Used to get that stuff as a kid and I never liked it." He said, wrinkling up his nose. Then he smiled over at her. "Was that enough of a description of myself to suit your tastes?"

April held her face in her hands, keeping it tucked against the back of the couch, ashamed of her crying, ashamed of her injury, ashamed that she needed to be helped. She wished she could sink into the floor and be forever forgotten, maybe become a little mouse, or a sparrow. Something plain and not flashy to look at. Something that could live life as it pleased. But of course, her wishes were not granted, and she was still sitting on a couch in the dressing room, crying as an unknown man bound her ankle, which she had been clumsy enough to break. And now she needed a doctor, apparently, and a ride home. Certainly not. She was fine on her own. She needed to be fine on her own. She needed to prove to the world that she was independent. She was strong like her sister. She was brave. She was going to be ok. Lifting her head, she frantically wiped at her eyes and sniffled, pulling her jacket around herself. "Thank you for your help." She managed, knowing it was plain old cruel to ignore someone who had so selflessly helped her, even if she hadn't wanted the help in the first place. "I think I'll be ok now." she said softly, her voice still hoarse from crying. It was a clear message 'you can go'. She almost felt badly as she watched him leave, but he embodied every man in her life, every man who her weak heart relied on. Every man that had fallen through. Standing on trembling legs, she pulled her bag over her shoulder and started the painful walk out of the studio and onto the street. She didn't need anymore help. She would go home and ice her ankle, and that was that. It would get better. She didn't need a doctor fussing over her too. Standing on the sidewalk, a few blocks from the theatre, she waited as the rain started to fall, for a carriage to come by that she could ride back to her apartment.

It hurt Maria to see him so down like this. Speaking dismally as if he were about to sacrifice himself for the greater good. Finally coming into the cart, Maria knelt by Thomas, her expression sympathetic. "Jeniffer has made good friends, Thomas. They will grow up as she does, and they will defend her. It is my people's way. We disagree on things all the time, but we never banish anyone for it. We stick together, no matter who is angry at whom." she promised, laying a hand on his arm. "I will always have a place among my people no matter what anyone says about my decisions. No one liked Sada's decision to be with you, and yet they were more devastated when she left." She tried to explain. "Please don't leave, Thomas. This will work out, I promise." She swallowed, looking down. "I can't lose you now that I've just found you."

McKensie (that-one-girl) | 5564 comments Brooklyn laughed lightly her eyes twinkling with joy as he put himself in such a nice light. She put her hand on his arm and smiled softly her heart fluttering around her chest and making her feel like she was floating and full of light "I find all of those things wonderful, now I know you and I feel more connected to you...we shall order pie tonight I enjoy a piece of pie as well." she smiled and sipped the wine giggling "cold medicine huh?" she found that very cute, a childish dislike for an accomplished man.

Topher frowned going after her "Lady April please...please, I know I have no right to say anything to you but...you are injured and I wouldn't be a good gentleman if I didn't make sure you were cared for...may I drive you to your home and get a doctor to care for you there? I know you want to be independent and strong, but everyone needs help...especially if you are hurt." he held an umbrella over her head getting soaking wet himself his face desperate and worried for her. He knew he'd never have a chance with her, but the man his mother taught him to be wouldn't let her push him away.

Thomas tilted her head up and kissed her gently, he nuzzled her and sighed "I trust you darling...I'm not going anywhere. I will strive to make good with the people and pull my weight...thank you, for everything...Jennifer did such a wonderful job with breakfast, she just adores your culture. You are like a mother to her...Maybe one day you can adopt her as your own..."

Lara (gurlwhowrites) | 8327 comments Matthew was slightly surprised by her friendly gesture, but he didn't mind at all, he simply smiled and laughed along with her as their food was brought out. "I would love to share a piece of pie with you." he agreed, his eyes already lighting up in excitement at the prospect. He rarely got anything nice like pie, so this would be a wonderful opportunity. Then he grimaced. "Don't mock. You don't want to try that stuff. It's like… oh I don't even know what it's like. It's just awful!" He insisted, knowing he sounded childish, but he would stand by this. He did not like cold medicine at all. "I suppose though…" he looked back over at her. "You being a doctor and all, you'll try to convince me that that stuff is actually good for you… right?" he asked, raising an eyebrow at her, in a somewhat teasing manner.

As April waited, cold and in pain, but determined, in the rain, she heard a familiar voice, and turned to find, lo and behold, the same man coming towards her, clearly worried. Why did he care so much? She hardly knew him at all, and men she had given herself body and soul to, still cared less than half as much as this one. So what made him different? For one moment, April saw through her disgrace and pain, and realized that there was no reason beyond selfish stupidity to turn away the help of this single kind soul that had somehow found a way into her life and she nodded slowly, wrapping her arms around herself. She was shivering, and here he was, getting all soaking wet. "Alright." She agreed, walking back towards the theatre with him. "But I insist you at least borrow a new change of clothes for your troubles. I can't have a clean conscious if I sent you home soaked to the bone." She insisted, still hesitant to be around him, but not forgetting her manners now that she had come to her senses again.

Maria relaxed against his lips, clearly relieved that he wouldn't be going anywhere. "Thank you…" She whispered, wrapping her arms around him and resting her head on his shoulder, in what was probably the first gesture she had given him that put her in a vulnerable position. Hard Maria was slowly opening up. "I am glad that Jennifer likes this world so much. I know I love the vibrancy, and Sada did too." she said honestly, touched that the little girl looked up to her in a mother like way. She turned a little at his last comment. Adopt his daughter? What did that mean? What message was he trying to tell her through such a serious comment? "What do you mean, adopt her?" she asked, surprised.

McKensie (that-one-girl) | 5564 comments Brooklyn gasped as the rain started to come down, she quickly grabbed her coat and hooked onto Matthew as they bolted inside. She laughed looking at the downpour still holding onto him, she looked up and realized their lips were a breath away. She closed her eyes and cleared her throat "I suppose I should have expected rain...it is London afterall." She touched his chest and was amazed at the muscle she felt underneath. Blinking she bit into the bread trying to distract her wandering mind.

Topher nodded as he led her back to the dressing room and got a blanket wrapped around her and a hot drink placed in her hands. The doctor came shortly after and examined her foot, he nodded gravely "bad sprain, you shouldn't walk on it at all for the next 3 months..." He got her some medication and a crutch to lean on. Topher was grateful there wasn't any permanant damage and she still could dance after it heals. Clearing his throat he gave a simple smile "may I take you home? Or would you prefer a cab?" He still was a nobody to her, one of the 'help' that had the audacity to argue with the prima ballerina.

Thomas swallowed feeling that fear creep up and latch on again "adopt?...as in, being her mother...taking her in as your child. But you don't have to, I swear it was a foolish thing and I shouldn't have said anything...ignore me I still have those mecications in my system..." He stepped away running his fingers through his hair sheepishly and shaking his head ashamed.

Lara (gurlwhowrites) | 8327 comments Matthew jumped up when it started to rain, dashing inside with her, his arms naturally falling around her. He smiled lightly at her the entire time, until she noticed how close they were and started nibbling on the bread again. "Yes, London does have dreary weather." he agreed, entranced by her. She was so close… and those eyes… he shook his head. "I think we both deserve a nice warm piece of pie. And maybe some coffee too." he suggested, sitting down with her at one of the tables inside. "What do you say?" he asked, raising an eyebrow at her. "You up for a warm dessert?"

April immediately felt better when she was swathed in a warm blanket, with a drink in her hands. And she also felt guilty for feeling so. This poor man was standing there, soaked to the skin, and yet he was just helping her and watching as the doctor cared for her and gave her a crutch. Nasty thing. She didn't want it. Not when she was used to flying around. Little birds didn't like wing splints, not when it kept them from flying. She looked up at the man again then, as he was asking to take her home. A ride home would be lovely, and he had been so kind, she figured if he took her back to her apartment, she could find some way to at least repay him for this. "I wouldn't mind a ride." She said, standing and awkwardly balancing on her crutch, the medicine bottle clutched in one hand. She felt like an invalid, and she hated it. "I've seen you around, but I don't think I ever caught your name." She said, suddenly realizing that she didn't even know what he was called. A simple thing, and she was treating him like a no body, such a kind man, to be treated that way, made the guilt rise in her.

Maria nodded then, understanding that that was what he meant. "I know what adopt means… Thomas. I was merely asking what this would mean for you and I. Do you mean for us to share guardian ship? Or do you mean to pass it on to me?" She asked softly, hating that she and made him embarrassed, that much she could see plainly. She had merely been confused by his offer. She never thought he would transfer guardianship over to her, he loved his little girl after all. But at the same time, if they were to share being guardians, that was practically a proposal right there.

Illiana smiled brightly when she saw James and she nodded. "We were very worried when we heard about what happened. Such an unfortunate circumstance." She said, shaking her head. "I'm simply glad she turned out safely. And I hear I have you to thank for that," She said, beaming.
Ella nodded, coming to stand beside Donavon. "He dove in after her, mother. Saved my dear sister's life…"
James grinned when he saw Marcoux and he clapped him on the back, embracing him heartily. "Doing well! Getting older and fatter, but life is good, is it not? What of your life? How has dukedom been suiting you?"

McKensie (that-one-girl) | 5564 comments Brooklyn smiled softly "I think I would enjoy that very much...we didn't get much dinner but honestly I couldn't stop thinking of that pie anyways." She admitted with a giggle. She snuggled up to him on the side bench they shared since the restaurant was filling up from the stragglers caught in the rain. His scent was rustic and smelt like old books, it was marvelous she carefully laid her hand over his and laced their fingers slowly hesitantly, it felt right but it was a little terrifying. She had never done this with a man before this was her first date and she was having a wonderful time.

Topher was putting together her purse she had brought with her and slipped the pill bottle in with everything else. He slipped his arm around her shoulders and carried her bag in his other hand helping her to his car. Making sure she was securely in he sat in the drivers chair after winding up the engine and turned to answer her question "Christopher m'lady but everyone calls me Topher or Gopher." He admitted and drove the noisy piece of machinery to the apartment she directed to. Helping her out of the car he took her to the door and into the place. He found a couch to set her on and did so since it would be highly inappropriate to see a lady's bedroom.

Thomas bit his lip highly uncomfortable by the mess he caused "I was referring to...shared guardianship, I can't give you full...even if it was what was best I'd miss her terribly..." He said quietly and distracted himself with cleaning his sword hanging around his belt. He just...he didn't think of it as a large commitment. He loved her she loved him and they were living together already...but he could understand why she was taken aback by it.

Donavon flushed uncomfortably "tis nothing really..." He said to the praising woman. He saw Joy come in and sighed in relief hugging her to him "there's my Poppy...how is your friend fairing? Have you gone to your lessons or outside all day? I don't want you cooped up in that dark room..." He said seriously playing with her auburn curls. Next to Ella he loved Joy more then anyone and he always was protective of her.

Lara (gurlwhowrites) | 8327 comments Matthew nodded, flagging down a waiter, ordering the pie of the night, which happened to be apple and cinnamon. He asked for coffee as well and then smiled at Brooklyn. "There we go. Lovely food is headed our way." He said, aware of her hand sliding into his. He was nervous about how to react but she seemed to be confident about this so he smiled gently at her and twined his fingers with hers. "I must admit, I'm enjoying our evening thoroughly." He said softly. He knew he was entranced by her, and this could become dangerous if he wasn't careful, and she didn't return his affections. Well there was one way to find out. If she responded well, then maybe this could happen. The pie came then and he smiled, holding the plate between them, "You ready to try this?" he asked.

April let him carry her stuff out to the car, and she marvelled at the vehicle. It was actually… an automobile. Those were rare in these days. She had only ever heard of them. And sure, they were clanky and had to be wound up, but she felt the excitement at being in her first real automobile. "Topher…" she repeated softly. It was an interesting name, but it had character in that way. It was strange, somehow, meeting someone who wasn't a fellow dancer like her. She knew she needed to get out more often. But as a dancer, no one really interacted with the stage crew, and part of her felt badly about that. "Unique name…" She commented. "Well, you already know mine, or I'd introduce myself." She said, smiling lightly as he helped her out of the car and into her apartment, and onto the little chaise lounge in the living room. Her ankle really smarted, but the bandages and ice seemed to be helping. "Thank you, Topher." she said, tucking her blanket around herself. "If you want, I'm sure there's a spare change of clothes in the dresser." She offered, as he was still soaking wet and she felt badly that he and done all this for her. "It's the least I can do in exchange for your help." She said softly. She was embarrassed now, after all, she had had a mental breakdown in front of a stranger. Like… that was the most horrible meeting ever.

Shared guardianship. With him, over his daughter. Well… she did love little Jenn, and he was living here with her anyways, so becoming the mother of his child wouldn't be that big of a change, right? Yes, it was stating outwardly that she was accepting him into the family. But that was what she wanted to do anyways. So what was the big deal? Mostly just the title. This was a huge step, and gypsies never tied themselves down anywhere, to anything. Which was why she was hesitant. But in all reality, she knew what her heart wanted. "I would love to be a guardian for Jenn…. her mother… if she'd accept me as that…" She said softly.

Illiana went on and on about how wonderful Donavon was, to the point that Ella had to whisper gently that they were dating, at which point Illiana nearly fainted right then and there, a huge smile blooming on her features, and she started going on and on about how wonderful that was and how she needed to tell Marcoux immediately. Ella shook her head, amused, and she smiled cordially at Joy as she came bursting in. "Abby is doing well! Well enough to demand chocolate that is." She giggled and hugged her brother. "If you didn't want me cooped up in a dark room, you should have put Abby in a bed in a room with more windows." She said stubbornly, a slight half smile on her features. "I promise I went to lessons… briefly….. I can't leave Abby all alone!"

McKensie (that-one-girl) | 5564 comments Brooklyn was pleased to see him lace his fingers along with hers, she smiled lovingly and grabbed the delicate dessert fork and grabbed a bit of the pastry and fed him still not releasing his hand. She giggled softly and dabbed his mouth with a napkin softly "is it as good as you had hoped?" She asked brightly and squeezed his hand lovingly as she leaned forward to be fed a bite. The rain pattered against the window, the restaurant was packed and bustling with sound but all she could see was him and them alone together. The moment was too nice to be real.

Topher got a glass of water for her and handed her the small white pill from the bottle "take this M'lady, it should help ease the pain some..." He flushed embarrased at the offer of a change of clothes. This was all he could afford, he couldn't borrow something so nice amd ruin it with the wetness. He took off his hat revealing his dark curly hair and cleared his throat "I shall take my leave...please get feeling better, the theater wouldn't be anything without you...and im not referring to your dancing abilities..." He admitted quietly heading to the door.

Thomas was pleased that she, though difficult was going to accept the title and becoming the young girl's mother "I think she will be thrilled...she told me the first night that she wished she had a mother like you...a pretty mother were her exact words...this doesn't mean your my wife if you don't want it to." He assured and catessed her cheek "im fine with how things are..." Yes he wanted full physical love but perhaps that wasn't an option now, being close to her gave him the same chills and wonder as intercourse would.

Donavon flushed embarrased at Illiana's praises and glee that they were a couple, he smiled at his sister and shook his head amused "your poor governesses..,Abby still needs to rest and mend Poppy, she is still a very sick girl. I'm as she has you as a friend but you still have Royal responsibilities..."

Lara (gurlwhowrites) | 8327 comments She was being awfully bold for this time period. That was Matthew's only thought as she fed him a bit of the delightfully warm pie and then dabbed his mouth with a napkin. But did he care? Nope. He was enjoying himself thoroughly, and no way was he going to ask her to stop. No, he picked up the fork and scooped off a bit of the pie for her, feeding that bit to her, just like she had done for him. This may be improper to some, but he didn't care. this was fun, he felt alive, he had gained at least a friend and maybe moreso, and he got pie. Life couldn't be better. "Do you want to take the pie out to the garden?" he suggested. It was a greenhouse, really, with a roof and walls, and a warm interior with benches and flowers, and he thought it might be a good place for them to finish the pie alone.

April accepted the pill from him, taking it along with the water. She used the water to help swallow the pill, grimacing, but knowing it would help her in the end. "I hope it works…" She looked up then to see him standing by the door, his hat clutched in his hands. She was startled by his dark hair. She had hardly ever seen someone with such a rich shade and she quickly shook of the thoughts that came, knowing it was inappropriate for her to start to think in that manner of someone she just met. However, she did realize that he was trying to make off without changing out of his sopping wet clothes. She made a move to stand off the couch, and then winced, realizing that that was not a good idea. "Please… please accept my offer of a change of clothes. I have a pair in the top drawer in that room that would probably fit you. They don't fit my father, and I don't have anyone else I can give them to. They're just taking up shelf space. Please at least accept this as my thanks to you." She asked, her eyes pleading. She had made a fool of herself in front of him, she couldn't end this on a bad note. She had to feel like some good had been done of it, and this man was too kind for her to let leave in sopping wet clothes. "I hardly am the most talented dancer at the theatre… but thank you." She said softly. "that means a lot to me."

Maria's smile was soft and very much pleased as she heard what sweet little Jenn had said about her. She knew she cared deeply for that girl, and realized just then how truly pleased she was at the prospect of becoming her mother. And then Thomas spoke about being his wife and she swallowed. Her heart said she loved him. But she was nervous, nervous because… well… she was a cautious person at heart, not one to jump into something without careful planning and thought. "I know I love you Thomas." She said honestly. "And I think I want to be your wife…. I'm just…" she swallowed. "Scared I supposed… of what could happen… things could change… or go wrong… or…"

Joyella clasped her hands together and looked down, twisting a bit as she thought. "Yeah… I know… I'm sorry. I should have let her rest more…" She said, looking guilty. "I'm just so worried about her… she still sniffles and sneezes… and she was drowning… and besides… royal responsibilities aren't any fun." she whispered, her smile guilty, as if she knew she shouldn't be saying that.

McKensie (that-one-girl) | 5564 comments Brooklyn was unaware of the social graces she shpuld be following, she didn't think it inappropriate at all. She was feeding him pie because she didn't want to let go of his hand that was all. The pie was crisp and warm melting down her throat, she closed her eyes enjoying the mixture of tastes and the crisp sweet apple. Realizing that he was talking to her she opened her eyes and gave a nod picking up the forks and the plate "as long as we don't get rained on I dong mind..." She linked her arm with his as they walked into the spacious glass greenhouse. The aromas greeted them, tangy and tropical flowers. She released his arm just to spin taking it all in "this must be what a jungle feels like..."

Topher smiled softly knowing it would be terribly rude to refuse after such a heartfelt plead. He nodded and went into the room to change, tugging the drawer open he pulled out a dashing suit. Far more expensive then any of his family could afford. He was reluctant but those pleading blue eyes haunted him, he buttoned up the shirt straightening the sleeves and slipping the jacket on. Looking in the large expensive mirror across from the bed he saw a man he did not recognize. Feeling self concious he exited the room and held out his arms as if to say 'well?' He heard her last words and smiled "you are the kindest and most lovely though..."

Thomas leaned in claiming her lips as his own and kissing her deeply to end the constant flow of words from her mouth. The passion was so much his eyes slowly closed and he groaned pushing her to the wall of the wagon and running his hands down her waist. He didn't know where this was coming from, he wasn't a man that craved sex every minute. He found a deep conversation just as pleasing, being with Maria was just as wonderful.

The nurse bolted into the dining room panicked "Madam, Monsieur its your daughter...her fever is rising and she's delerious. Please come!" She said in her halted French. Donavon quickly hekd Joyella back as Ella rushed with her parents. He hugged her close trying to calm his scared sweet sister. She had never experianced heartache before and he didn't want it to start now.

Lara (gurlwhowrites) | 8327 comments Matthew knew she was enjoying the pie, because she kept closing her eyes and smiling, and it warmed his heart to know that there was someone else who enjoyed something just as much as he did. He smiled at her and gently slipped his arm under hers, escorting her out to the garden where he sat with her on one of the nice stone benches by the little pond they had in the greenhouse. "I wouldn't know… I've never been. But I assume so." He said honestly, shrugging. "What is the most fantastic place you've ever been to?" he asked, curious about the places she'd seen.

April sat back on the couch, finally relaxing now that she knew he would get changed and not be shivering and soaked all the way home in that automobile. She just focused on getting her ankle into a more comfortable position, so it wasn't as strained. However, when he walked back out, her ankle was completely forgotten. This young man in front of her was nothing like the stagehand that had just left here a moment earlier. He had the same eyes, and the same charming smile, but the new clothes made him look more confident, and it was a change that really made all the difference. "Those suit you." she said softly, aware that his compliments were making her cheeks burn. This was so highly improper. She needed to stop thinking this way right this instance. "Keep the clothing. I have no use for it." she said softly. "Take it as a gift of my thanks." She smiled lightly then, dipping her head towards him.

Maria had not expected him to kiss her so suddenly, nor so passionately, cutting the words off right from her mouth. But she didn't complain. The kiss was passionate, and it was personal. She felt loved, like she was the only person in the world who mattered to him right now, and she liked feeling needed, wanted like that. And needless to say, while she had had her reservations, after the fact, she didn't regret it one bit. Being with Thomas, her love, was like her sister had mentioned once in a letter. It was like finding yourself. Deeply spent, Maria rested with Thomas on the furs, the flaps to the cart closed so they had some peace for a while, just in each other's company.

Ella and her parents all bolted upright at the moment they heard the news. Ella paled three shades and her mother looked like she might swoon all over again as they rushed from the room in a flurry of silks and tapping feet. Joyella stared stunned after them, and then the news registered and she tried to bolt for the door, only to be stopped by his brother's arms. "Let me go!" She cried, clearly panicked and frightened. "I must see her! I have to see her! What if she dies!" She said, her face crinkling up in pain as if she only just realized that as a possibility now. "I must see her!"

McKensie (that-one-girl) | 5564 comments Brooklyn considered the question as she stopped admiring the flowers "I...don't know, I've only been to New York, London and Ireland...im not well traveled, I used to travel when reading my books. I loved to sit in libraries and explore jungles and deserts, ruins and tombs...you know? Do you like to read?" She asked sitting on the bench and looking at him eagerly. She didn't think she could be with him if he didn't enjoy reading.

Topher was flustered, he rubbed the back of his neck awkwardly and gave a small smile "thank you...maybe I'll need a reason to wear this, like meeting the queen or something..." He wasn't this fancy gentleman, but he saw how she was far kinder and more observant of him when he was this fancy gentleman. He was a nobody and he'd never have a chance with her, he was a peasant and he just wasn't worth anything. "Maybe I'll see...you later, take care of that foot M'lady...I'll tell the director it was my fault." He said seriously and opened the door ready to head out of her apartment.

Thomas snuggled up with her in the furs, he brushed her long dark hair inhaling the sweet tangy scent that came from her every pore. He kissed down her neck and shoulder holding het closer and rubbing his leg down hers and massaging her hip "you are incredible my love,..are you alright?" He felt that it was her first time and he didn't want her hurting. It was a special moment for them.

Donavon kept her back and wrapped his arms around her securely and rocked her lovingly, trying to keep her calm and reassure her "we are calling the doctors from all over Europe..." Including the doctor that Jack was using.
Abby was thrashing and moaning her body trembling and heated her lips dry and thirsting. The nurse was trying to get her to drink but it kept dribbling down her slack mouth.
