J.M. Powers (jmpowers) | 28 comments I need to delete three of my books. I received the rights back from publisher and they're going to be released by another. How can I get the ones on goodreads taken down?

J.M. Powers (jmpowers) | 28 comments But it's going to be released again with many changes...including cover art. With another publisher. I would like to take them out of my profile. If goodreads chooses not to delete it that's fine. But I don't want them in my Author Profile.

Cait (tigercait) | 4988 comments When you publish new editions you can set them as the default editions so that users see them first, but the existing permanent records of once-published books need to remain.

Also please note that information should never be removed from records. Doing so is considered vandalism of the GR catalog and may get your account revoked.

J.M. Powers (jmpowers) | 28 comments Okay. I appreciate your help. I'm still learning this site. It's pretty overwhelming. I'm seriously wondering if It'd be easier to just delete my account and start again from scratch.

J.M. Powers (jmpowers) | 28 comments By the way, Cait. I neglected to thank you for straightening out the mess I made on my profile books. :) I was trying to undo it, but then made it worse. In the future I'll ask HOW to do it. Like I said, I'm new at this. When the other books are published, how do I set it to default to the newest version? Or is it automatic?

Sandra | 31526 comments J.M. It wouldn't matter if you deleted and started again, those members who had the original books would just add them back again.

Think of this site as a library and not a bookseller.

As to creating your default edition - under the heading at the top of this group - AUTHOR FAQ: Authors look here first!

Rivka says: Q: My book has a new edition, but the old one is showing up on my author page. How can I change that?

A: The default edition of a book -- the one which shows up on your author page, in non-ISBN-specific searches, and several other places -- is determined by the number of Goodreads users who have shelved each edition.

As more users shelve the new edition, it will become the default instead.

Alternatively, Goodreads recently added a new feature for authors: Goodreads Authors can now choose which edition they want to be the default edition for their books. Goodreads Authors (and Goodreads Employees) are the only people who can use this feature, and they can only do so for books on which they are the primary author.

To use this feature, go to the edition you wish to set as the default, and click the "edit" link. On the edition's edit page there will be a link on the right side, about mid-way down the page and just before the link to refresh stats, to "Set this book as the primary edition for this work".

J.M. Powers (jmpowers) | 28 comments Lol, okay Sandra. Thanks for the heads up. I was just getting frustrated. All good now. You guys are so patient. I appreciate all the help. Great point on the library, not a bookseller. That put things in great perspective.
I'm going to read the extensive information I received today when I became a Goodreads Author. Sheesh. I didn't mean to mess up so bad on my first day as one! :)
