P A N ( is back ) (millieevemarie) ...

message 2: by Addie (new)

Addie
About halfway to the woods, Emmy had slid off Charlie's back to walk next to him. They had received a few strange looks from the other gladers, but Emmy didn't care. She was finally getting to hang out with her best friend. Emmy ducked under a low hanging tree branch as she entered the woods. The more they walked, the quieter it got.

message 3: by caitlin; (new)

caitlin;
Charlie had gotten used to the strange looks from the Gladers, since he got them all the time as he was pretty weird in the Glade quite a lot. He would never admit it, but Emmy wrapping her legs around him had been very nice indeed. He wasn't supposed to think that though. He was partially glad that she got off, so he couldn't think any more not so friendly thoughts. He grinned at her lazily as she stood next to him, walking deeper into the woods. "It's way quieter here," Charlie murmured, not wanting to break the silence for some reason.

message 4: by Addie (new)

Addie
Emmy noticed his grin and returned it before turning her head back to the front. She stepped over a rock before turning to walk backwards so she could face him. "Yeah." She agreed, not sure why she was whispering. Maybe she just didn't want to disturb anything. Emmy kept flicking her eyes to the side to make sute she wouldn't run into anything. She chewed on the inside of her cheek, hoping Charlie would talk more.

message 5: by caitlin; (new)

caitlin;
Now, don't get Charlie wrong, he loved to talk. Especially to Emmy. However, there was a certain magic to the silence of the woods, and Charlie felt that it would be terrible to break it. Instead, he just raised a finger carefully to his lips and pointed out a path just a little bit off the main way. He began to walk to it quickly, thinking that they could do a little bit of exploring for fun. He was like a giant child.

message 6: by Addie (new)

Addie
Emmy stopped, folding her hands in front of her and watching Charlie. He still hadn't said anything, which was really weird. She raised an eyebrow at her friend, following him. "What are you thinking, Charlie?" She asked quietly, stepping up next to him.

message 7: by caitlin; (new)

caitlin;
Charlie rolled his eyes and shushed her again. Grabbing her hand not incredibly gently, he pulled her along the path when she stepped to him. He liked the mystery of this all, especially since it seemed to be puzzling Emmy. "We are exploring," Charlie mouthed silently, smiling excitedly. He wanted to find something cool with Emmy that they could reminisce about when - or if - they grew old together.

message 8: by Addie (new)

Addie
Emmy tripped, quickly regaining her footing as Charlie pulled her along. She ran a little bit to catch up to him, falling into step beside him. She laughed quietly when she read his lips, shaking her head. "Exploring?" She breathed quietly, holding back a laugh. She shrugged as if to say 'alright', not bothering to question Charlie's motives.

message 9: by caitlin; (new)

caitlin;
Charlie was pleased that she didn't question him and just went with it. That pleased him. He pouted when she laughed at him and seemed amused by his ideas. "You may laugh!" Charlie hissed quietly through his teeth. "But this is very very serious business," Charlie whispered, before placing his finger on his lips again. Although he could have, he didn't let go of her hand. Which, of course, was just an accident.

message 10: by Addie (new)

Addie
Emmy frowned, trying her best not to laugh at. She continued to let him pull her along, not really noticing he was still holding her hand. "Alright, very serious. Got it." Emmy said with a smirk, glancing around. She wasn't really sure what exactly the pair was looking for.

message 11: by caitlin; (new)

caitlin;
Charlie glanced back at her to see she was smirking, so he lightly whacked her across the head. He shook his head at her and continued along the path. He came to a split in the path, so he turned to look at Emmy, stopping abruptly in front of her. "Left or right," Charlie murmured, glad she was a lot shorter than him or their face would have been much too close for comfort.

message 12: by Addie (new)

Addie
Emmy laughed quietly as he smacked her gently in the head, rolling her eyes at him and shaking her head. She skidded to a stop when he whipped around to face him, throwing her arms out to keep herself on balance. "Uh..." She considered his question, eyebrows furrowed as she observed the two paths. "Left." She finished, figuring it wouldn't make that much of a difference from right.

message 13: by caitlin; (new)

caitlin;
Charlie pursed his lips, trying not to grin when she laughed. He shook his head again, biting his lip. Charlie automatically reached out to grab her arms as she threw them out to catch her balance. However, he quickly pulled them back as she seemed fine on her own. He nodded and started to walk left as she chose, determined to find something cool. He spotted a weird rock structure that looked like it had something wet inside it. He beckoned Emmy, fascinated by what looked like water.

message 14: by Addie (new)

Addie
Emmy was glad that Charlie would have caught her, but she hadn't needed his help after all. Oh well. She followed him again, the buzz of the glader's conversations fading out completely. She didn't see what Charlie was pointing at at first, so she had to move closer. It looked like the rock was wet, but Emmy wasn't aware of any creeks in the woods. "That's weird." She muttered, tapping the rock with her fingernail.

message 15: by caitlin; (new)

caitlin;
Charlie licked his lips as he bent down to take a closer look at the rock. He couldn't understand what it was doing there. Along with Emmy, he wasn't aware of any water sources in the woods or anything. Charlie nodded to agree, sniffing a little. It smelt more earthy here, like the ground was wet. "What do you think it could be here for?" Charlie asked Emmy softly, since she was the smarter of the two of them.

((So... What should it be?))

message 16: by Addie (new)

Addie ((I'm not sure... is Charlie talking about the rock?))

message 17: by caitlin; (new)

caitlin; ((yeah))

message 18: by Addie (new)

Addie ((Should it not be water??

Lol I have no idea XD))

message 19: by caitlin; (new)

caitlin; ((Well, he means the rock with the water on xD))

message 20: by Addie (new)

Addie ((Oh yeah right... well... let me just post something so we can keep it going, and maybe we will figure it out.))

message 21: by Addie (new)

Addie
Emmy shrugged in response, still looking at the rock in front of her. She placed her hand on the ground, noticing it was damp. "I don't know, but the ground is wet as well." She answered quietly, eyebrows furrowed. "Which is weird. It never rains here. At least... it hasn't in a while."

message 22: by caitlin; (new)

caitlin;
Charlie frowned at her, licking his lips. He was incredibly confused. Non of it made any sense. "How is there water here and how is it getting to the ground?" Charlie questioned, looking to Emmy as if she could somehow answer. As he had before thought, she was the smart one. She was the one he asked about everything.

message 23: by Addie (new)

Addie
"I don't know." Emmy admitted, scratching the back of her head. She was just as confused as Charlie was. "I spend my whole day in the kitchen, but I don't think anyone comes out here." It bothered Emmy that she didn't know. It was weird and confusing to her, but it also made her feel uneasy.

message 24: by caitlin; (new)

caitlin;
Charlie pouted when Emmy said she didn't know, since she was his go to for when he didn't understand something. Who were they supposed to ask now? Charlie nodded at her words, agreeing with her. He didn't come here and he didn't think that anyone else did. On the other hand, he wouldn't really know since he was always in the Maze. "Could it be... Maybe it was put here by however dumped us here," Charlie murmured, more to himself.

message 25: by Addie (new)

Addie
Emmy stood up from the ground, turning to face Charlie. "Maybe." She answered, frowning. It had to have been recent, or else the water would have already evaporated. It wasn't exactly cold in the glade. "Whatever it is, it happened recently." She kicked the rock with her foot, half expecting something to happen. Of course, nothing did.

message 26: by caitlin; (new)

caitlin;
Charlie frowned back her, not because he was annoyed but because he was just so confused. It didn't make any sense to him. Charlie didn't understand about the evaporation thing. Therefore, he didn't get how Emmy knew it was recently. "How do you know that?" Charlie asked, innocently stupid. He wasn't the smartest.

message 27: by Addie (new)

Addie
Emmy glanced at the rock, then back at Charlie. "Well, considering how hot it is here, this water must be fresh, or else it would have eithet evaporated or sunk into the ground. This grass probably hasn't gotten water in a while." She explained, referring to the dry grass under their feets.

message 28: by caitlin; (new)

caitlin;
Charlie made an understanding noise at Emmy's words, smiling as he realised what she meant. "That makes a lot of sense," Charlie admitted with a nod. He ran his hand through his hair, different coloured eyes both showing confusion and thought. He was trying to make sense of this situation, but he just couldn't. It was so strange and abnormal for the Glade. "So..." Charlie murmured, licking his lips. "S- Should we say anything about this or...?" Charlie questioned, raising his eyebrows.

message 29: by Addie (new)

Addie
Emmy was glad he understood, because she really didn't know much more about evaporation. Her hands fell to their normal place at her hips and she was still frowning at the rock. "I suppose we should tell the others. It may need to be investigated or even talked about at the next gathering." Emmy wasn't a big fan of gatherings, but it was one of her duties as a keeper, which also meant she should probably report this abnormality as well.

message 30: by caitlin; (new)

caitlin;
Charlie just couldn't understand where this rock and water had suddenly come from. Or was it always in the Glade? Perhaps it just hadn't been discovered yet. "You know, when I said we were going exploring, I didn't think we would actually find something," Charlie joked lightly, scratching the back of his neck. At her next words, he turned more serious again and he nodded. "You're right, they should be told," Charlie admitted, though a small and selfish part of him wanted to keep this discovery him and Emmy's secret.

message 31: by Addie (new)

Addie
Emmy laughed, nodding at his words. "Yeah, I didn't either." She was serious about that, but her tone was light and she was smiling. Almost every part of the glade had already been explored, so of course she hadn't expected anything. She was glad her agreed. "Good, because this could be a good thing, or a threat." She told him. "Or nothing at all." Emmy let her arms drop down to her side. "So... what now?"

message 32: by caitlin; (new)

caitlin;
Charlie laughed with her, messing up his hair a little with one hand as he ran it through his brown locks. He pretended for a moment that he was upset that she also thought they wouldn't find anything, but his face soon turned amused and lips curled into a smile. Charlie nodded with a small smile still clear on his lips, biting his pink lips gently as he thought. "It could just be a natural water source," Charlie reminded her gently.

message 33: by Addie (new)

Addie
"Which would be good." She finished for him, nodding. As the cook, Emmy was aware that the gladers always needed water, so the more the better. "Let's head back." She suggested to Charlie. "We haven't gotten to talk much." Emmy voiced. She had wanted to talk to Charlie, about everything and nothing at all. She didn't mind the little adventure, though.

message 34: by caitlin; (new)

caitlin;
Charlie nodded wholeheartedly, completely agreeing with Emmy. They could never get enough water for the camp. If they had a fresh water source, it would be much better for them all. He again nodded when she suggesyed they went back, though it was more sad this time. He didn't really want to have to go back, since there he and Emmy couldn't talk in private. Oh well. Emmy soon voiced his thoughts, which was quite a coincidence. "I know," Charlie replied sadly, licking his lips. "There's always tomorrow, right?" Charlie added hopefully, raising his eyebrows in question.

message 35: by Addie (new)

Addie
Emmy noticed his sad nod and felt the same, not really wanting to head back just yet. The dinner rush was coming soon, and Emmy wasn't looking forward to it. She normally ended up eating her dinner alone or with the other cooks because, by the time they were done serving plates to the others, most of the gladers had finished their food. Charlie normally ate with his runner buddies, then went to bed before Emmy could even close the refrigerator door. "Well, we still have the walk back. So... spill." She said, grinning at Charlie. Spill was the word the pair used that referred to anything on their mind that they wanted to share. Emmy and Charlie told each other pretty much anything.

message 36: by caitlin; (new)

caitlin;
Charlie smirked as she mentioned that they still had the walk back. He rolled her eyes as he used their almost catchphrase and he shrugged nonchalantly. "I'm boring; nothing has really happened to me," Charlie admitted softly, but then he got a bright idea. He would tease Emmy just a little. "I have... I have got a little crush on someone though," Charlie admitted slowly, as if hesitant to say what he was going to. He thought of some embarrassing things to make his cheeks flush pink.

message 37: by Addie (new)

Addie ((Oh he is mean! XD))

Emmy scoffed. "Whatever. Nobody can be boring." Especially not her best friend, but Emmy left that part out. At his next words, Emmy felt a little bit like she was punched in the stomach, but she didn't show it on her face. Why did she feel like that? She should be happy that Charlie had a crush. "Oh really?" She said finally, plastering a smile on her face. "Who is it?"

message 38: by caitlin; (new)

caitlin;
((but he doesn't think Emmy would care xD))

Charlie shrugged and let out a soft chuckle. "Um, well I guess that I prove that statement wrong," Charlie joked, implying that he really thought that he was boring. After all, it wasn't like he had anything useful or interesting to say.

Charlie, of course, had no idea that Emmy felt weird about him having a crush. A fake crush, anyway. There was only one person in the Glade who he really liked in that way, and he sure wasn't telling her that. "Well, they have dark hair, they are a runner and incredibly attractive," Charlie described animatedly. Yes, he was describing the Keeper of the Runners Sonny, as a joke.

message 39: by Addie (new)

Addie
Emmy rolled her eyes. "Whatever!" She said, shaking her head. Charlie definitely wasn't boring. He had just dragged her through the woods on some adventure that hadn't even been determined. Emmy didn't really count that as boring.

She listened to Charlie's description, almost laughing. It sounded to her like he was describing Sonny, who Emmy saw plenty during gatherings. Not wanting to be rude, in case there was someone else he was actually crushing on, she kept her mouth shut. "You still didn't answer my original question. Who?"

message 40: by caitlin; (new)

caitlin;
Charlie chuckled at her whatever, clearly enjoying winding her up. It was just so easy. She fell for stuff every time. Sometimes, he didn't even have to try and she went for it.

Charlie made an 'ah' noise and tapped his nose mysteriously. "Now, why would I tell you that?" Charlie asked with a laugh. "So you can go up to them and tell them embarrassing stories? No thank you, I'm good," Charlie replied teasingly.

message 41: by Addie (new)

Addie
Emmy giggled, nodding through her laughter. "Oh yes, absolutely. They will know every embarrassing thing you've ever done since the beginning." Emmy had already been in the glade before Charlie had shown up. She remembered seeing the scared and confused expression on his face as he sat in the box, an expression that she hasn't seen much since.

message 42: by caitlin; (new)

caitlin;
Charlie groaned and covered his face with his hands as if incredibly embarrassed. He found it weird that he was pretending to like someone else and not telling Emmy because she may say embarrassing stories, but she was the one he liked and she knew everything. Still, that was because she was his friend long before he started developing feelings for her. "You're going to make them hate me," Charlie moaned, pretending to bit very upset.

message 43: by Addie (new)

Addie
Emmy laughed at his groan, smirking at him. But, she was still concerned that Charlie really did have a crush on someone. There were plenty of girls in the glade obviously. He probably liked one of the runner girls. "I promise I won't make them hate you. I wouldn't ruin it for you." She said gently and quietly, turning her head to look up at him.

message 44: by caitlin; (new)

caitlin;
Charlie gave her a look when she laughed at his groaning, a look which said 'how dare you laugh at me, you terrible best friend'. However, this was obviously done in a teasing way. He could never be mad at Emmy. And she certainly wasn't a bad best friend. He smiled at her words, thinking she was such a nice person. Still, he couldn't help being internally bewildered that she had no idea how she made him feel.

"You want to know a secret?" Charlie asked lowly, looking around them to check their was no one around. He leaned closer to her, very close, to whisper the secret. It looked like he was going to kiss her, even though that thought didn't cross his mind.

message 45: by Addie (new)

Addie
Emmy laughed at his expression, knowing very well that Charlie was just joking around. She continued walking as a silence developed between them, but it was a comfortable silence.

Emmy stopped walking at his question, turning to see Charlie's face right beside her. She grinned at him, nodding. "Sure." She whispered back, forcing the smile off her face so she looked serious.

message 46: by caitlin; (new)

caitlin;
Charlie rolled his eyes as she laughed, since he was supposed to seem mad at her. It seemed she knew him well enough to realise he was just messing. Well, of course she did. The silence was peaceful and not awkward. Still, Charlie found himself wanting to talk. Not because he felt awkward, but because he liked to speak to Emmy.

Charlie smiled at her and leaned to hover just next to her ear. "I'm totally making up all of this about a crush," Charlie admitted in a murmur, pulling back with a soft laugh. He grinned at her sheepishly.

message 47: by Addie (last edited Jun 21, 2015 07:27AM) (new)

Addie
Emmy glanced at the outline of his face out of the corner of her eye as he spoke in her ear. She smirked at his words pulling back to face him. She leaned in next to his ear just like he had done and whispered, "I know," In the same tone. Then she laughed and pulled away, shaking her head at him.

message 48: by caitlin; (new)

caitlin;
Charlie couldn't help his increased heart rate as Emmy leaned close to him to whisper. However, her words made him deflate and he pouted, annoyed he hadn't tricked her. Deciding to be honest just to prove her wrong, he said words that he regretted moments after he said them.

"Well, I do have a crush but she isn't a runner. So I wasn't making it all up. I was just joking that time," Charlie snapped, lips pursed. He didn't know why he got annoyed that he couldn't trick Emmy. At the moment, he was just hating how smug she was. Smug, smug, smug. That stupid, smug, gorgeous face of hers.

message 49: by Addie (new)

Addie
Emmy froze at his words, especially at the snap behind them. She raised an eyebrow at Charlie, eyes soft. "Alright." She said slowly, searching his face. "Then who is it?" This was the third time she had asked Charlie this question. She wasn't going to believe him if he didn't tell her. Emmy didn't mean to annoy him, but something must be bothering her best friend.

message 50: by caitlin; (new)

caitlin;
Charlie noticed her freeze and felt instantly bad for snapping. Some best friend he was. He gave her a small apologetic smile and looked down at the ground, ashamed of himself. "Sorry for snapping, Emmy," Charlie apologised softly, completely sincere. He had dug himself a hole here. He shook his head quickly, trying to back track. "Oh, I was just messing on again," Charlie bluffed quickly, trying not to look like a big fat liar. Then he would probably just make her more upset if she thought he was lying to her.
