Maybe mid 1990's. Author had a book that sold well, and this was another title he wrote (I don't think it was as big a hit). Man's twin sons (8 year old?) are kidnapped, and he tracks them across the country. Crazed killer needed twins for a magic show, possibly so he could kill one of them and then produce the other one, for a spectacular effect...
