Sandy wrote: "Re Books with a demon on the cover - if its a person on the cover and the book is about demons, do we get to assume that is a demon on the cover (unless it's obviously not?) Or do they have to loo..."The demon needs to be a character or the theme in the book.
Megan wrote: "So for the witch for Little Mermaid... does the story have to have a witch in it? Or can the word "witch" in the title or a witch on the cover count, too?I mean, more than likely if the book has ..."
Same thing the witch needs to be in the story
Peter Pan: Captain Hook ~ any book with a pirate or a thief/criminal qualifiesJenne -- the way this is worded, I've be going with a mention of a pirate or criminal (within your definition) counts, but your answers are leading me to believe that you mean a larger role than that
Cinderalla is a bit easier for an example. If a step mother stopped by to say hi, but had no other role in the book, I would count this.
Financial crimes like these okay?embezzling
ponzi scheme
extortion
con men
insider trading/securities fraud
insurance/credit card fraud, identity theft
tax evasion
money laundering
forgery
What about smuggling and bootlegging?

Susan, I think the Mods were looking to make Criminal specific to Pirates by linking it to things that pirates common steal. Hence the financial crimes. So just simply being a "Con man" isn't specific enough.
The booty needs to be of significance.
Ex of a YES: A theft of the Mona Lisa
Ex of a No: Insider trading, identity theft, tax evasion, extortion
I will put this list for the mods to look at.
P.S. Awesome questions for clarifications BTW!

No plain wolfs. Werewolves are pretty easy to come by.For step family, they need to be in it (even if only for a minute) or be mentioned enough to where you know the character has step family.
For example if the mc has a stepmom and mentions her a lot but there's not any real scenes in the story of them interacting that's ok.
The Secret Casebook of Simon Feximal without reading the book, it looks like at some point they are investigating a grave robbery in which the grave was rumored to hold treasure..whether or not the treasure was there to be stolen, I won't know until I read it.Is this enough, or will have to read it first to see if it counts?
Glen & Tyler's Scottish Troubles doing a word seach I can see that at some point in the book they find a pirate's treasure map and go on a treasure hunt..again, until I read it, I don't know whether or not they ever find any treasure.
Does it fit the task?

let me get back to you, okay?

Susan, Ezi and I were just talking about it and treasure hunters will work too :)I bet there's some Egyptian artifact thief books out there. I'd be surprised if there wasn't.

Like one of my all time favorites...
by Jane Harvey-Berrick ---are we counting "H" or "B" as the last name?I would say H...but I will defer to any librarians or experts in this area?
Jenne wrote: "I'd think H too, if it was listed in the phone book it would be in the H's."
Thanks. It doesn't work anyway for author's initials

For the step-sibling challenge, would the Harry Potter books work? Or Into the Lair?In Into the Lair, Ian and Braden are brothers. Their team leader (they are former military who still work together as they once did) considers them as close as his brothers and married a woman they now all work with. I'm not sure if this qualifies as a step-sibling relationship or not. Help?
Holli I haven't read the Harry Potter books. I'm not sure if there's any stepparents or step siblings in it. Anyone know? For into the lair someone that considers them family but not actual relation wouldn't work. Ian and Braden would need their mom or dad to marry someone and or if the new spouse had kids.
I don't *think* there's any step-siblings in Harry Potter. The Dursleys never claim Harry as their own so Dudley is still just his cousin. And all of Ron's siblings are full siblings. Hermione's an only child, so are Neville and Luna, I think. I'm trying to run down a checklist of all the characters in my head and I'm going to feel really dumb if I miss one, but I can't think of any.
Jenne - will Ritual Magic and Unbinding work for fairy/fae. Ritual Magic shelved Fae 8 times and fairies 2 times. Unbinding shelved 13 times as Fae. Is it the same as. Is it the same as Fairytale retelling where it has to be shelved at least 5 times?
It'll need to have an actual fairy/fae character in it (they only have to be in there for a second). There's a few of our members playing that have read them. If you want I can ask them if they remember.

For the theif/criminal...Does one of the MCs have to be a theif? I'm reading a book where their jewel-encrusted war sword is stolen and they go after the theives.
thief/criminal: in this book I read the killer (not a MC) stole a badge (a piece of jewelry - a gold plated pin)from his victim. is it ok?

I told Melissa that the Fae play a pretty prominent role in the last book for sure and I'm pretty sure in the second to last one as well.

Kind of what I was thinking, but I wanted to make sure. Thanks!
I'm reading Training Season, not a pirate book but the pirate word is mentioned. Can I count it for the pirate / criminal task???
Jenne - Just finished The Water Knife. One of the main power players in the book is frequently referred to and known as the "Queen of the Colorado" or "Queen of the River".
Would this count for the task? Thanks!
