message 4321: by Taylor (new)

Same question?

Saru (Queen of Bookland) (sarulovesbooks) | 3290 comments Nope.

Favorite quote?

message 4323: by Taylor (new)

Taylor | 0 comments (That is a very beautiful quote. One of my favorites from C.S. Lewis. We should be friends. ;D )

Same question?

message 4328: by Taylor (new)

Um…there are a few I wouldn't mind reliving. There was one recently where I had an amazing poetry performance and had an amazing conversation with Savannah afterward. I'd do that again for sure.

Do you wear gloves a lot in the winter?

message 4329: by Halah (new)

message 4330: by Anthony (new)

A Tree Grows in Brooklyn, by Betty Smith

The Bonesetter's Daughter, by Amy Tan

The Complete Works of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle

The metamorphosis, Franz Kafka

What author has influenced your writing style or acted as a mentor?

message 4331: by Anthony (new)

Anthony | 140 comments Amy Tan has really shown me a lot about character development and symbolism, and Betty smith influenced my writing style for bringing my setting to life. Of course, Oscar Wilde has really had an impact on my view of adding comedy (at times) to a richly constructed story in order to create a link to the reader.

What is your writing process like?

message 4332: by Halah (last edited Aug 12, 2013 02:19PM) (new)

Halah (valhalah) | 925 comments Hm, I start of writing about 200 words, or more if I'm on a role, then I veer off and of course, waste time on the internet, then force myself to get back to writing, maybe eat something, smash the keyboard a couple of times, pronounce myself a failure every ten minutes or so, and then I'll have maybe 2000 words done in three hours. This is what NaNoWriMo was like anyhow..

Are you confident and/or optimistic in your writing?

message 4333: by Anthony (new)

Anthony | 140 comments @The Mighty Katara

(by the way, I like your screen name. I used to watch Avatar: The Last Airbender all the time. I have not watched too much of Legend of Korra, though.)

My favorite classic might be The Metamorphosis, by Franz Kafka, or Les Miserables, by Victor Hugo, but I really like The Importance of Being Earnest, by Oscar Wilde.

@Hallee

My writing confidence is constantly on a seesaw. I know I have talent, but I think about all of the grea authors that have existed and start to feel insignificant. To paraphrase what a certain author once said (I think it was either Becca Fitzpatrick or Cinda Williams Chima.) "The writing industry is a competition of self-loathing."

What kinds of messages do you want to express when you write?

message 4334: by Taylor (new)

Taylor | 0 comments Depends on my audience. The YA fiction I do these days deals a lot with what it means to be human and how it makes us different from animal and machine.

Same question?

message 4335: by Anthony (new)

Anthony | 140 comments I write stories about uplifting the human spirit, like how society perceives us and about breaking away from convention. I also write about What it means to be human in a constantly-adapting world.

(By the way, Taylor, you should read Ken Kesey's work. Especially One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest. It is told from the POV of a man in an asylum, and the whole story is about how society is just one big "combine."

What was the defining moment for you as a writer?

message 4336: by Halah (last edited Aug 12, 2013 03:03PM) (new)

Halah (valhalah) | 925 comments I think it was when I started writing in my journal/diary again, two years ago (I'm still a noob..) I started having an interest in how people think, and the human mind and such, and i also started reading more. It made me want to be apart of creating worlds and sharing thoughts like so many others.

Do you share most of your writing, or do you just keep it to yourself for now?

Saru (Queen of Bookland) (sarulovesbooks) | 3290 comments I keep it to myself because I am embarrassed of it.

Do you take criticism well?

message 4340: by Halah (new)

Halah (valhalah) | 925 comments Some Laurel and Hardy movie, I forget which one.

Do you think that movies should leave books alone, or do you enjoy adaptions?

message 4341: by Taylor (new)

Taylor | 0 comments I enjoy some adaptions, but not a lot. I feel like there are also too many. We need more original films.

Do you think we have too many adaptions in film?

message 4342: by Halah (new)

Halah (valhalah) | 925 comments Nope.
